#6 of Just Another Gay High School Romance

YAY! Got it finished Finally! ^w^ Welcome back to another chapter of my cliche' romance story! XD Things a little bit serious in this one, but things lighten up around the end. As always, comment, vote, watch and all that good stuff. Constructive criticism is greatly appreciated! :D

It had been a month since Coren had visited Will's house. Will was confused when Coren left that day. He went over that day several times to figure out what had happened. Why had Coren left in such a hurry? Why did he look hurt? Will was clueless. As the rest of the month dragged on, Coren became increasingly distant. Sure, they still hung out, but Coren didn't seem as cheerful as when they had first met. Coren's sullen attitude showed through his fake, cheerful facade. Will was becoming annoyed with Coren as time moved forward. He needed to ask someone who knew Coren well, someone Coren probably confided in. He decided to ask Haley during their fourth period to figure out what was going on.

The bell rang, informing the students that third period and second lunch was over. Will usually hung out with his new girlfriend, Lauren, and a friendly human named Ben. Once the bell rang, he quickly left Ben and Lauren behind, anxious to figure out that was going on with his new feline friend.

Will entered the small, white classroom and saw Haley sitting in her usual spot. Will quickly made his way the seat next to her and greeted the small rabbit.

"Hey Haley."

"Oh, hi Will! So, how are things going with Lauren?"

"Good, good. So hey, I've got a couple questions to ask you."

"Oh? Like what?" Haley cocked an eyebrow and tilted her head to the side.

Will scratched behind one of his ears and started talking. "Um, well,em... It's about Coren." Will noticed Haley tense up immediately and saw her nose start to twitch. "Well, um, he's been getting distant as of late. I've been trying to get him to open up, but recently, it seems that he's been avoiding me. Do you know anything about why he's acting like this? Has he told you anything?"

Haley's eyes narrowed and her nose started twitching even more. "What he tells me is none of your business. If he wants to tell you, he'll tell you."

"Oh, come ON, Haley! We both know he'll never do that!" Will's ears pressed down against his head and a snarl escaped his muzzle. It was like everyone knew what was going on with Coren and he didn't, and that annoyed the hell out of him.

"What he tells me stays with me. That'll never change." Haley shot back a glare that caused Will to be taken aback. "If you want to know so bad, ask him yourself. I will never betray another friends trust." Haley's nose continued to twitch while she glared at Will.

"Fine." Will sighed. "Can you tell him to meet me in the band parking lot after school?" He wanted to take the easy way to figure out what was going on, but apparently that wasn't going to happen.

Haley's expression soften. "I can do that." She gave a soft smile and added, "I'm pretty sure he has a couple of things on his mind, too."

"Thanks, Haley." Will smiled back.

Coren was about to leave the school when Haley caught him exiting the front doors of the school. She had told him to meet Will in the parking lot by the band room. Coren sighed. Will was the last person he wanted to see. The feelings he had only grew stronger and stronger as time moved forward. Looking at his beautiful eyes and kind smile only hurt him so much more, because he knew that he could never have those attributes to himself. Coren had made his way to the opposite end of the school to find Will leaning against the school, looking down at his hind paws.

"You wanted to see me?" Coren asked flatly. Will jumped when he heard Coren speak, and his ears pressed against his head when he saw Coren's hurtful gaze.

"Um, hey, Coren." Will smiled awkwardly. "How are you?"

"I'm fine. Now can you please tell me what you wanted to tell me? I've got homework to do." Coren said rather impatiently. He could see will become more and more hurt with the words and tone he was using, but he couldn't help it. The pain was just too much.

"Um, well..." Will straightened himself and breathed. "I just wanted to know why you've been avoiding me. What happened? Did I do something wrong? Please tell me." Will's eyes pierced Coren's heart with a pleading gaze. Coren turned his head down and folded his ears against his head.

"You did nothing wrong. It's just..." Coren paused for a minute. "...uhg. It's nothing." Coren looked back at Will and continued "It's nothing."

"Coren, please. Why are you being so cold? I just want to help!" Will's eye's penetrated Coren's heart once again. Coren could feel tears start to well up in his own eyes.

"YOU CAN'T HELP ME!" Coren suddenly shouted, a growl escaping his throat. "YOU CAN DO NOTHING! NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO, NOTHING WILL CHANGE!" Coren fell to the ground and started crying in his arms and knees.

"What is wrong with you!?" will tried to sound calm, but his anger was getting the best of him. "What's so fucking bad that I can't help you with?"

Coren looked up at Will and mumbled in a crying voice "I-I-L..."' He then sobbed again and buried his own muzzle in his arms again.

"I what? Tell me, please!" Will shouted desperately.

"I-I... I can't." Coren pushed himself off the ground and started walking away.

"Coren, wait!" Will grabbed one of Coren's paws to stop him from moving.

"Please tell me. I want to help. I want to be a good friend. Is it because I have a girlfriend?" Coren flinched at the word 'girlfriend'. "I can help you get one, if you wa-"

"That's not the problem. I'm sorry, I just can't tell you." Coren sobbed. He pulled himself away from Will and continued walking away.

Will was getting angry now. He ran up to Coren, grabbed his shoulders, and whipped him around to face Will.

"H-Hey! Shoulders!"

"I'm not letting go until you tell me what's going on" Will said sternly. "I want to help. Please."

Coren took a deep breath, trying to compose himself. He tried to get out of Will's grip, but he was holding on tightly to his shoulders. Suddenly, an idea struck him as he stared back at Will. 'I'm gonna regret this...' Coren suddenly leaned forward and kissed Will. Will's eye's grew wide in shock as Coren locked his lips with his own. Will was to surprised to even react, let alone fight back. When Coren separated from Will's warm face, he quietly whispered "That's why." Coren released himself from the shocked wolf and ran off.

*****

Will just stood still, frozen in place as he watched Coren run off. What had just happened? Will shook his head and tried to figure out what had just occurred. Coren... had just kissed him. And he didn't fight back. Will just stared forward at the spot where Coren had been standing.

So Coren was gay, and he liked Will. Will didn't know what to think. He still liked girls, but at the same time he wanted to help his friend in anyway he could. Will sighed and started heading towards his own home. He needed to figure out what to do the next time he confronted him.

*****

Coren kept on running. He didn't know where he was going, but he didn't care. He just wanted to get away. When he finally slowed down to a stop, he sat down and cried to himself. Will probably hated him now. He wouldn't be surprised if Will started avoiding him. In the middle of his teenage angst, he felt someone put a hand on his knee. "Coren? Are you okay?" Coren looked up and saw Floyd standing over him, with a worried look on his face.

"O-oh, hey Josh." Coren looked up and tried to smile.

"Okay, something IS wrong. You NEVER use my first name." Coren chuckled sadly at Floyd's emphasis on the word 'never'.

"Yeah, It's been a long day." Coren sighed.

"Well, If you want someone to talk to, I'm right here." Floyd moved to the cat's side and sat down right next to him.

"Thanks." Coren smiled and told Floyd what had happened earlier that day. Floyd listened as Coren told him about the talk they had and the kiss. At the end of Coren's story, Floyd patted Coren on the knee.

"Wow. That was brave of you. Reckless, but brave."

"You think so?" Coren felt his cheeks burn red. That's been happening to him a lot lately. Damn.

"I do." Floyd smiled and stood up. "I certainly wouldn't be able to do that. Now how 'bout we start walking you home?" Floyd reached down to help Coren up. Coren took Floyd's hand, smiling to the fullest. "Feeling better now?"

"Lots better." Coren grinned even wider as his tail swished back and forth happily. They then started walking home together.

Halfway along the route home, Floyd told Coren he now had a job.

"Really? Where?" Coren asked.

"At the Pizza Hut by main street." Floyd smiled. "The interview was yesterday and they told me I got the job this morning. I start training next Wednesday."

"That's great!" Coren gave Floyd a high paw/ high five as they continued down the road. "So what are you going to spend your money on first?"

"Seriously, what is it with you and money?" Floyd rolled his eyes as Coren laughed. "If you must know, I'm actually planning on saving it."

"Really? For what?"

"You really want to know?"

"Of course I want to know!" Coren gave Floyd a hurt gaze. "I mean, who else is going to tell the world about your secrets?"

"Ha ha, very funny you ass." Floyd punched Coren in the arm playfully.

"Come on! Tell me! Please!?" Coren eyes pleaded with Floyd.

"Fine, fine!" Floyd looked around to make sure no one is listening. He then turned to Coren and said bluntly "I'm saving up for 'The Change'."

Coren's eye's widened in surprise as Floyd dropped his bombshell. "Wait, what?"

"I said I'm saving up for the surgery that changes me into an anthro like you guys. 'The Change'." Floyd said somewhat annoyed.

"Really? That's awesome dude?" Coren exclaimed.

"Yeah. As soon as I get the money, I'm paying to have the procedures done."

"What species are you planning on becoming?"

"A husky!" Floyd said proudly.

"Aww, come on! We have enough dogs around here! Can't you become a tiger or lynx instead?" Coren whined.

"Nope. Dogs are cooler."

"Hey, what does that mean?" Coren huffed.

"Exactly what I meant, dumbass."

"Rude." Floyd chuckled as they reached Coren's house. "Welp, I'll see ya later Floyd. Good luck!"

"Thanks! See ya bud!" Floyd waved a hand and walked off. Coren smiled to himself. Today had been an emotional one, but he was feeling much better. Coren opened the front door to his house and sighed happily, finally over the emotions that had over run him and he was thankful to have a friend as good as Floyd.
