#18 of The Unintended Curse

I'm fairly happy with myself as I've finally gotten out of my funk and am now writing once more. I didn't realize it at the time but I was under a bit of a writers block and was only recently able to get out of it and write again.

This new chapter of the Unintended Curse series is a bit of a jumpy one as the point of view changes between a few different characters (Mostly that of the Younger sister elf and that of the Lord), but I hope that you enjoy the read and keep in mind that this is only one part of chapter 18 (As I've got a lot more to add to the chapter)

THE UNINTENDED CURSE

Ch. 18

"But I don't understand sister," said the younger as she walked up to her taller sister and stared up at her. "Why are we to wait here?" The elder sister didn't turn to look down at her younger sister; only stared over at the man whose body wasn't his own.

"He has said that we are to wait here," there was a drawn out pause as she slowly took in a breath; "And we shall wait."

"That makes no sense," drawled on the younger as she too looked towards where her older sister gazed and saw the man standing beside the road, staring off into the distance. "We should return to the road and to that be that much closer to home." With those words her older sister looked down towards the younger. "We do not need him to guide us the remainder of the way. We could set out from here on our own and be rid of him. After all, he is only a human." This time the two of them looked off towards the human who stood a short distance away and watched him for a while as he gazed down the road that they'd just come from. After gazing at the human for a while the elder sister turned to look down at the younger.

"This 'human' has done so much for us already, and you wish to break our oath to him?" The elder sister said as the younger looked up at the elder sister and noticed that the elder sister had an eyebrow raised in question. The younger sister opened her mouth to utter a few words back, but nothing came out when the elder sister raised her second brow and then furrowed both brows right after down to her. "Need I remind you that we are in debt to him and it behooves us to repay our debt to him?" The younger sister just stared up at her elder sister and didn't say anything for a while.

"But why are we waiting here?"

"We are waiting for several new members to accompany us to your homeland," said a voice behind the younger sister; which in turn caused her to jump in shock at the sudden voice from right behind her. Once the younger sister had gotten her heart back under control, she turned to find that the voice belonged to none other than the human. The human had on what could only be that of an amused smirk on his face and she hated that even more than him sneaking up on her.

'Sneaking up to me...wait a moment, humans should not be able to sneak up to us,' the younger sister thought to herself, but when she turned to look over at her elder sister to ask how he had accomplished such a feet, she saw that her elder sister had a look of puzzlement as well as one of fear. 'Wait just another moment...why does she have a look of fear upon her?' "Sister...," she asked/said in a small voice.

"More...," was the only word that the elder sister said to which; looking over to the human, she saw him nod in agreement. Upon looking back to her elder sister she saw that the look of fear had faded completely and the only emotion she could see was that of bewilderment. "But, why more? I was to believe that it would only be that of the three of us to travel to our ancestral home." Looking back to the human she saw him shrug his shoulders, then make a sweeping motion with one of his arms that ended with his arm pointing to a fallen tree, and finally found him sitting down there as if he were tired of standing on his feet.

"At first...that was true," the human began but the younger sister could tell by the tone in his voice that there was more to it than that. "That was until we arrived at that lord's manner." Seeming intrigued by the human's words she soon found her elder sister and herself standing before him and to that leaning in, in hopes of him elaborating further.

"Would you kindly elaborate further," said that of her elder sister, to which she nodded as if to say that she wished to hear the full details as well. The human smiled to that, leaned back to take in a long breath, and then slowly let it.

"It all happened when a part of me took over the lord's body," he said as he placed a hand upon his chest. This got her to raise an eyebrow at the human, but when seemed to pause for a bit she thought about the words he said. As she thought about him taking over a body, she remembered that she too had a piece of him within her. "I learned of something; something that needed to be done," he paused there for a brief moment before he gestured towards the horizon that he'd been looking towards.

I turned with that of my elder sister and just as my eyes looked towards the horizon I saw that of the lord's head just crest the rise as well as several others to following alongside him. My first instinct was to run and hide somewhere, but it was what was walking alongside him that threw all my fears out the window.

"Are those, fellow...elves?" She heard herself say as well as that of her elder sister at the same time.

"Indeed," said the human in an amused sort of tone. "When a part of me took over the Lord's body I learned that he was a slaver; an 'unusual' slaver." To which both my elder sister and I turned and did a few double takes between the human and the approaching lord. "Just like the slaver that had captured both you and your sister," he paused for a moment to take in a long breath, "this lord too dealt in enslaved elves."

"So that was the reason those men were so relentless in taking us," I said to which both my elder sister and the human nodded. "But that still leaves us with one thing."

"And that would be?"

"What is he doing here now?" To which the human smiled up at me, motioned with his hand towards that of the now very close lord, and the lord nodded to us as he stopped right next to us.

"I will be more than happy to explain." Said a voice from beside me and as I turned and looked up at the voice, I couldn't suppress a shiver that ran through/up the back of my spine. I mean, we had just recently escaped the lord, and here he was; standing next to us. It was a bit of a confusing thing to think over, as I knew that our human/blob monster had placed a piece of himself within the lord and to that was in control of him, but that did little to ease my unease of it all; especially considering that I too had a piece of him within me.

(Flashback and change to the lord's perspective)

As I watched as the trios of travelers disappear into the distance, I couldn't help but feel a bit uneasy at it all. 'It almost feels like I am in two places at once,' I thought as I watched my main host disappear over the horizon. It was one thing to be close to the main host as it was only a feeling of vertigo, but as the distance increased it felt more like a hole was growing somewhere within me. It was only when the trio had 'fully' disappeared beyond the horizon that I slowly shook myself out of my reverie and turned back to the manner and let out a long sigh. "It is time to get to work."

Once I returned to the Lord's home I stood just inside its gates and took in the whole sight of it all. The lord's manner was what would expect of a summer home of some high lord or someone else of a high station within the royal court; but being inside the lord's body I knew that it was only a sugar coated piece of filth. Under the surface there was something ugly and something that needed to be dealt with 'And that's what I'm going to do'.

Instead of heading off to that of the main house, I turned off to the side and headed off to walk along the inside of the walled gate. As I walked along the wall my mind was racing through the lord's mind and through his thoughts I focused on the ones concerning elves. "If what's in his mind is right, then there should be a secret entrance to the holding cells somewhere around here." It wasn't until we'd reached the low hedge maze that the memory of such a place was nearby. "All I have to do is navigate this hedge maze then we should reach the back entrance," but navigating the maze seemed to be a little harder than I first thought.

As things went, the memory of the correct path wasn't really in that of the Lord's mind, but rather the instinct of the correct way was there. In other-words, he'd navigated this path so many times that he no longer needed to think about the route, he just went there, and in short order would arrive at the center of the maze and to that the back entrance to the holding cells beneath the estate. Not really wanting to relinquish too much control back to my host I stood there at the entrance of the maze for another two minutes and finally sighed. 'I'll just have to keep a close hold on him to make sure that if he tries anything that I can quickly regain control of the body,' and with that thought I slowly pulled back my control of my host but left a deep impression that the Lord wanted to use the back entrance to the cells.

"I believe it to be time to give those guards their surprise inspection," the Lord said in his own jovial tone as the impression that I'd left in his mind made it seem that the idea was that of his own. "And if I so much as catch another one on the bottle down there, then heads will roll," he said and to that I was a bit surprised at the resolution/truth in those words and thoughts. A small smile spread across my own thoughts as I came to the realization that I'd just learned something new about my abilities and to that would have to remember it for future use if need be.

It didn't take the Lord long to navigate the large hedge maze and to that we emerged into the center of the maze. To say the least I was a bit surprised at the sight of the center as there was only that of a single, solitary tree there. To that I was a bit disappointed at the sight of the tree and even that I was a bit angry at that as well. 'Is this some kind of joke, all his thoughts were to that of the back entrance and here we are at a stinking...tree,' I had to pause as the Lord continued to the tree and in that walked around to the back side of it. Once there I saw him reach up to a spot high up on the tree and press in what could only be that of a knot in the tree.

Still feeling confused about what this was about, I was surprised when the sound of several gears began to turn within the tree and eventually a small oval opened in the base of the trunk. "There we go, and now to give those guards a nice good surprise." Leaning a slight bit down as well as placing a hand on the upper part of the opening, (Most likely to keep him from bumping his head on the top of the opening) the two of us began our decent into the depths of the place.
