It was the night of the costume party and Mat let out a loud sigh. He stared at the maid's outfit his mate had bought him. It was not what he had wanted to dress up as but a bet was a bet and Bear had won fair and square. Still Mat did not like the idea of publicly humiliating himself like this and neither did his wolf. "I know you feel the same way I do about wearing this but we are duty bound to honor our bet. I should have known better than to bet against him especially in a competition of will. He really is so strong minded isn't he," the human said talking to his wolven side.

"I agree about the outfit. But whether we like it or not our code won't allow us to deviate from honoring our bet. Just next time no betting against Bear," the wolf said with a sigh.

"Agreed. Now lets get this over with before he gets here," Mat said with a sigh as he reluctantly put on his maids outfit. He knew it would be a long night for him as he had promised his Alpha he would keep an eye on his pack mates and make sure they behaved themselves. When alcohol was involved it was key that he kept an eye on the rowdy bunch. Especially for their packs omega sake as often times when the wolves got rowdy the games would begin with Langli and he knew sometimes they got a little rough with him. Langli always took all of it well but he could tell sometimes the games would really hurt the young man's feelings.

Mat heard a knock at the door. "Come in," he replied knowing full well it wasn't his mate as his mate never knocked. The young man continued to put on his outfit one piece at a time but so far had only managed to get the lower half on.

"You're really going through with it huh.... Can't say I find that surprising with you especially with that code of yours," Mat's Alpha said as he stood there with a puzzled look on his face. The man was dressed as a biker which for him looked like a costume. He wasn't very tall or muscular compared to most of the wolves in his pack especially Bear but his presence alone was intimidating and intense. And it was that intensity and sheer will that made him Alpha of pack. "I'm still surprised about you though. I just really can't see why you are even a part of this pack. Don't get me wrong we are stronger for having you here but you have alpha written all over you. Why haven't you even challenged me once for alpha?" Blacks name or real name was unknown to all in the pack but they had nicknamed him Black ages ago due to the deep black coloring he had when he was wolfed out.

Mat sighed as this had become a weekly thing between him and his alpha. "I understand where you are coming from Black. We have discussed this and my reasons at length before. While I appreciate you see that in me and what it means to have your respect like that it's really not what I want. All I want right now is to be near my mate and while my wolf agrees with you he knows how I feel about it..... You're a great leader and heck you really helped turn Brian's life around when he was headed down that dark path when he family died in that horrible drunk driving accident. I can't replace that or take that from you. I'm happy where I am **sigh** and I know I am where I belong no matter what you or my wolf say," he replied a bit frustrated with it being brought up again. And while some part of him did want to be an alpha he just did not think he was ready for that responsibility plus he knew his mate would likely not follow him. Especially since Black had saved Bears life a long time ago although neither of them ever spoke of it.

"Okay I understand Mat but you will have to listen to your wolf at some point and you know that. And trust me in this Bear would never want to be the reason you are being held back from your potential," he exclaimed before the man with dusty blonde hair strode out of the room. His tail out in full view for now as it swept back and forth.

Mat just shook his head and sighed again as he realized he still had half of his costume to put on. Slowly yet surely he put the outfit on even though each piece he put on made him feel more uncomfortable. His wolf was hating it even more than he was right now as he could here its protests loudly in his head the growls were almost deafening. "Hey knock it off you know I'm not happy with this either but we have to do it."

He continued to get the outfit on and all the various accessories Bear had bought for him to wear. A bright blush forming on his cheeks as the costume finished and he was dressed fully. He knew by the end of the night though that his feet would be killing him as the boots were far from comfortable for him t wear.

Tom and Anthony stuck their heads into the room and gave a loud whistle at Mat causing the already blushing wolf to blush even harder. "Looking damn fine there head beta. Bear is gonna love seeing you like this that's for sure!" The pair left chuckling both of them dressed in their knight's armor they had bought from a retiring LARPer. The armor looked good on them due to their build and how well it suited their fit toned bodies. The pair went everywhere and did everything together sure they weren't mates but everyone thought they were so close they were mates. Mat knew better as they were just the best of friends and shared a lot in common. Their favorite pass time though was picking on both the head beta and the pack omega. They saw it more of hazing in Mats case but with the pack omega well it was easy target syndrome to the pair.

"Both of you behave yourselves tonight and no shenanigans you two we don't want any trouble tonight," Mat shouted at the pair hoping they would listen as out of the entire pack if there was going to be someone who stepped over that line it would be that pair. This was especially complicated as the party was not their own so hiding what they were was paramount and avoiding fights was key along with any out of the ordinary stuff. Mat could hear the pair still chuckling as they walked away.

"Well you were right Bear he did it he kept his word..... and boy does he look hot in that maid's outfit," Tom said to the big burly Bear as they walked by him in the hall.

"Doesn't surprise me with him. His code of ethics really is so strong I imagine that's why he became head beta so quickly. Really love that about him.... But remember tonight we all need to be on our best behavior we risk a lot going to this party like you both wanted," Bear reminded them in an almost fatherly tone. "Plus Black is looking for you."

"Figures we only ever get the big daddy Bear talk after the alpha has had a talk with you," replied Anthony as they continued down the hall.

"Man those two are a handful," Bear groaned out as he headed down the hall to see his mate.

"Come in love," Mat called out to bear hearing his very familiar voice in the hall.

Bear walked into the room a big grin on his bearded face. Bear was big and fairly tall almost every room he entered he had to duck to get through the door. Luckily they had modified most of the doors to their home to accommodate him. But not only was he tall but he was very muscular as before he had become a wolf he had competed as a strong man competitor. While his muscles strained his clothing most often he carried himself like a smaller guy and had just a little hint of a gut from his love of drinking. Bear had not shaved in several days as he wanted to have a fairly substantial beard for his costume. Which for those who knew him was nothing more than his normal biker gear but with a beard. The big guy knew that his mate found that very sexy and decided that he would do it for him. "Looking good there my love," he replied with a wink and a very sly grin.

"Have to say I love the beard on you. But you knew I would look good in this you had it custom made for me," Matt said the last part sarcastically.

"Ah there's the sore loser. Well regardless it was well worth the money," Bear replied as he walked acrossed the room and sat on the edge of their large bed.

Mat looked in the mirror and smiled seeing how well the outfit fit him and how good it looked on him. He then saw Bear's reflection in the mirror looking like he had something on his mind. "What's up big guy it looks like you have something on your mind," Mat asked really wondering what had been bugging his mate for the past couple days as even for him he had been acting a little odd. Mat had noticed that Bear had pretty much stopped drinking any type of alcohol and was spending a lot more time around him. He loved they were spending more time together but every time he looked at Bear the big guy seemed to have something on his mind but never wanted to talk about it.

"Nuthin just thinking is all," he replied as he stared blankly at the ground.

Mat turned to his mate giving him a very stern yet caring look. "Please love enough is enough you have been acting odd for weeks now and its really starting to scare me. Please tell me what's eating at you and I will do whatever I can to help it go away if you need me too," Mat implored wanting his mate to let him in and give him a chance to help.

"I'm sorry just a bad dream I keep having and can't shake. I'll be fine but please don't tell anyone else about it...promise me," Bear exclaimed a very serious look on his face. "It's just well the dream and well uh...... I feel like I'm holding you back. While I still feel bad for that night in the bar but I'm happy to have you in my life.... Well you had so much going for you before and now we all see you could be an alpha of your own pack but you stay here. I know you'd never challenge Black and well I owe him my life so I really can't just leave him or the pack....but you have so much potential and yet you stay here."

Mat walked over to Bear and gently put his hands on his mate's cheeks making sure he was looking him in the eyes. "Really this again. Bear you know full well why I stay and the reasons behind me staying. And you never need apologize to me for anything I love you nothing will ever change that." Mat was worried though what kind of dream could get to his mate like that. What in the world could a guy as big and tough as bear dream about that would scare him so deeply.

"I just....well I just feel bad. You had the world in the palm of your hand and then that mistake I made took that away from you," Bear replied unable to even look his mate in the eyes due to a sense of shame over his actions.

"Hey stop it would you. I gave that all up freely and I have not ever once looked back and regretted that. Now please Bear tonight is for fun for you and the rest of the pack. Please cheer up and forget all of that stuff I'm here now and we are together that's all that matters," Mat replied as he sat down on the bed and gently held his mate. He tried to comfort the big guy as much as he could as he hugged him close until he broke the hug and kissed his mate passionately. The kiss was magical for them both and really helped to strengthen their bond. Their tongues danced in each other's mouths as their hands rubbed up and down each of their bodies. Slowly their mouths changed shape as did their teeth and tongues. The pair enjoyed the kiss as they shared that wonderful bliss filled moment where nothing else mattered.

Bear broke the kiss and gave his mate a mischievous smile, "While I'd love to continue this and I must say how much I want too you are not getting out of our wager that easy. Wolfing out and destroying that costume does not fulfill our deal love. But thanks though I really needed that." Bear stood up off the bed and stretched lightly as his face returned to its more human look. "This will have to wait till after Dan gets off of work and takes over for you watching the packs behavior."

"I can hardly wait too my love but a promise is a promise and I can't blame Black for wanting a night off to just relax especially with the trouble makers we have at times in the pack," Mat replied with a light laugh.

"Yeah hopefully Tom and Anthony keep in line tonight. But knowing those two someone's getting pranked or something by the end of the night," Bear replied with a laugh. He knew the pair well and any chance they got to goof around they took it.

"They aren't the only ones though and you know that....although I must say you've really cut down on the drinking," he replied to his mate. Mat grabbed his keys and smiled at Bear giving him a pat on his nice ass as they headed for the door. "Well we better get going. And remember to just relax and have some fun but be careful love."

"No worries about me head beta **chuckles** will wait and just relax till our fun can start," Bear replied as he playfully slapped his mates ass.

"You really are something my mate.... I'm so lucky to have you," He replied with a cheeky smile.

The pair jumped into mat's car as Bears bike was in the shop being worked on and well Mat wasn't a huge fan of riding it as he'd get too excited on it and more than once almost fully wolfed out riding with Bear on the bike. Bear loved his bike and had spent a small fortune customizing it for the past ten years but the part Mat loved was the leather seat with his name and Bears pounded into it. Mat's car though was very unimpressive though really nothing all that special about it. Just an older model cavalier four door that he had modified the passenger seat to be able to accommodate his mate. The pair eventually made it to the party but were far from the first ones there Mat and Bear sighing when they had a bit of a walk to make to get there. Mat especially felt pretty down about having to walk so far as now he had to walk past other people who may not even be headed to the party in his maid outfit. The Blush on his face very evident as he walked which of course Bear just ate up loving every moment.

Once inside though they parted ways and Mat went about his duties tracking down each of his pack mates to make sure they were staying in line. The outfit did slow him down some but his determined nature kept him on task and moving. He eventually managed to corral most of the trouble makers in one area where he could easily take a little higher vantage and keep an eye on them. The house was very large and luckily the living room had an overlook above it allowing Mat a safe vantage. He watched as the pack mingled and drank or danced it made him happy to see them all let loose and have fun. Most days in the pack except for the two exceptions it was business all the time with each wolf part of some sort of project with their keepers or other keepers from the area. Mainly due to the knowledge and skills the pack had as a whole. Each of the wolves had at one point or another except for mat been in the military at some point. Primarily Intel gathering although they did have two battle hardened wolves in the pack in Bear and Black. But all of them had been cursed well after they had finished their military time. It always mystified mat with a group like this he had managed out of all of them to rise above everyone else to be the packs head beta. He at times never really felt like it fit though for him to be above them in that way.

"Well I'm happy to see you are working smart Mat but you really need to stop doubting yourself like that," Anna said as she walked up behind him.

"Should have figured you'd be nearby but why are you in my head?"

"I'm not. I can see it in your eyes. Black has all the faith in the world in you Mat. Now why do you keep doing this to yourself? We all know full well how strong you are and that you should even be an alpha in your own right but every chance you get you doubt yourself. You know full well where that will lead if you keep doing that and I'm pretty sure if you ever went Dire we would have a hell of a time dealing with you," Anna replied both speaking some from her lips and some using her mind. As a keeper her strength was great at least to Mat he was never able to wrap his mind around her talents.

"I know but out of all of us he picked me. Why not Bear or Robert they are way stronger and maybe even more skilled than I am," he replied as he continued to survey what his pack mates were up too.

"You really are too funny you know that. Not once have you even so much as looked at me and away from your duties. You are the most driven person I have ever met wolf or non-wolf I'm pretty sure if anyone told you you couldn't do something you would do anything and everything to prove them wrong," anna replied giving Mat a pat on the back as he stood watch. She knew he was much stronger and more intelligent than he gave himself credit for but knew he just needed a boost every now and then to really help his self-confidence.

"Thanks Anna...... I just hope it goes well tonight all of us needed a break with all that's been going on especially you guys and Black."

"Hey you need it too and no worries Dan will be here in a couple hours to give you a little time to yourself. Just keep your eyes open and don't be afraid to move around we do have a lively group when it comes to parties," Anna said with a smile as she pat mats ass. "And have to say Bear did a nice job picking this out and getting your measurements right." She giggled some as she strode away seeing Mat blush very brightly.

Mat did move from the balcony occasionally and checked in with each wolf from time to time to make sure they weren't too inebriated. But it seemed like any time he went around through the party goers he would get goosed or groped by someone which made him a little bit uncomfortable as it made him visibly blush in front of strangers which felt so awkward to him. For the most part his shift went off without a hitch although he did have to calm Anthony down at one point as his tail had come out and the color of his eyes had changed. He was so close to wolfing out but mat was never able to ascertain as to why but he had luckily stopped it in time he thought before anyone had notice. Sadly he was wrong there was one human who had taken notice and snapped a shot of the strange sight posting it to their twitter.

The rest of the night had gone off without any significant changes as he wandered around and only had to help two of his pack mates out to the van to let them sleep off their drunkenness. It always mystified him how this group could get drunk like that but they always found a way. Luckily the pair had passed out so he had no worries of them going into full on lust driven fuck mode in the van.

Dan walked up to Mat a smile on his face, "Thanks my friend. I'm sorry you had to do this all tonight can't imagine it was all that fun for you. But I got called in last minute for work and they would not let me have it off. I feel bad Black went to you with this instead of Anna or anyone else but I'm here now and can take over."

Mat smiled and nodded, "Thanks my friend but no need to apologize I would kind of not be a good beta if I didn't do stuff like this from time to time."

"Seriously man. You are always the one doing this you really need to turn it down every now and then. But how about you get going I met Bear coming in and he is anxiously waiting for you outside," Dan replied. He did not have the heart to tell Mat about the talk that he had just had with Bear. The big man had had a long talk with Dan about making sure if anything happened to him that Mat would not do something stupid and that Dan would make sure of that. Even going so far as to make Dan promise he would look out for Mat if something bad happened. It caught the keeper off guard but he made the promise even though Bear would not explain his reasoning for the talk.

"Okay okay I'm going. Just keep your eyes on the twin terrors they are up to something and Anthony did partially wolf out at one point. But he's okay now I think just keep an eye on them. Oh and two of our happy little group are sleeping off a nasty buzz in the van right now," Mat said before walking away and heading outside. He knew full well that Dan had this under control and would be able to more easily handle this with his abilities than he was.

Mat made it outside and saw Bear staring up at the stars while sipping on a beer. He dwarfed the chair he was in but still looked comfortable enough sitting there. Mat strode up behind him and gave him a hug from behind and a quick peck on the cheek. "Love you big guy."

"Feel the same here my love. So glad we met that night although still wish it were under better circumstances," he replied still staring up to the sky.

"By the way how is your sister haven't seen her in over a year," mat asked hoping he wasn't dredging up any painful memories or issues.

"Well she is no longer speaking to me and is married to that thug you stopped me from pounding at the bar," he replied a little sadness to his voice. Bear loved his little sister and really was very protective of her after their parents passed a few years ago as that was all the family he had left essentially.

"Sorry to hear that love. I know how much she means to you but give it time you two are family after all and well blood is thicker than water," Mat replied as he hugged bear even closer. Even giving him an affectionate lick on his cheek. "How about we get going. Most of the group have gone already and only the usual suspects left here. I imagine Anna and Dan can handle the rest. We can cuddle up in the woods back at the house and for once we will have the sleeping bags just to us."

"You really know how to cheer me up let's get going," Bear replied.
