Buddy Fight: Fighting Magic

Chapter 1

Enter New Territory

Buddy Fight, a game popular among the students of the four combat academies of Kaiju. Involving two combatants these pairs duke it out in an all out brawl until one is either knocked out or give up. Being in the world of the Eternals though it was no easy feat to simply win a battle. A simple knife to the heart or gun shot to the head wouldn't do the trick, no Eternals won't even flinch at things like that, their bodies are much, much tougher and stronger than that. Any weapon is allowed, there's just one rule when it comes to the game. There shall be no deaths among the battle. If one was to kill their opponent the consequences would be severe. It isn't just a game to the students of Rico, Manji, Kiren, and Teki Academy, it was their grade. By studying different styles of combat their skills would improve, and the more battles they won the higher their rank would go. Most dream of becoming one of the academy champions, a mighty Paladin, but others dream of things far bigger. Those who work hard and fought the hardest would eventually come face to face with the Paladins of the other academies, and if they managed to defeat them all they were crowned Kanji's Champion. It was no easy feat though, but that's how it goes in Buddy Fight. Blood, pain, and glory awaits those who dare enter one of these academies. This is Buddy Fight!

Well it was that time of year again when all the newbies would board the trail to their new home, the academy of Manji. Among the four Manji was the least expensive to get into, and it wasn't exactly a huge school like the other three, but still it had its charm. Among the hundreds of new students was Milia Kansta, a eighteen year old cow with a heart of gold and a figure to match. Even though she was attending Manji Academy though it wasn't entirely her decision. Thanks to her father and mother she was able to escape her own personal problem from before, but before she could even enter she had to do a bit of training, some of which pushed her to her absolute limit. Still, it was nice to be out and about, for the time being though all she had to do was sit back, relax, and listen to some tunes on her MP3.

"I wanna feel that power surge, two minds that are made to merge. Don't make me miss the rush, take me to the crush." she sang softly as she leaned back in her seat.

As the song played in her head though she noticed that most of the others had their weapons armed and ready. Of course it wasn't against the rules or anything, in fact it was recommended that everyone have at least one tool to use to defend themselves, and why not? In a school where you could be attacked out of nowhere it would come in handy. Unfortunately for her though she had no such weapon, no guns or blades, all she had were her fists.

"Oh, how much longer?" she asked herself as she looked down at her cellphone.

Well the good news was the trip was almost over. According to the papers she received the week before from the school they would all be arriving at approximately 9:00 A.M, and as it stood it was 8:55 A.M. As her new destination approached though butterflies began filling her tummy as she grew more nervous. What if she couldn't find a proper buddy? What if she lost too many points and got expelled? Was she worrying for nothing?

"OK breathe, it'll all be OK." she tried to reassure herself as they closed in on their destination.

As soon as the intercom came on though she jumped a bit, only to realize they were already there.

"Now arriving at Manji Academy, be sure to take all your luggage and have a nice day." they all heard before grabbing their things.

Once she secured her things though she was greeted with something that looked like it had been lifted right out of a fairy tale. She had heard that the academy was big but damn, it looked more like a kingdom than a school. From what she could see through the large entrance shops were scattered all around that sold numerous items, from first aid equipment to tomes, to even scrolls that could teach others new spells and fighting techniques. And in the center of it all was a large clock tower that houses the school bell.

"Hehe alright, just one good step and we'll be on our way." she told herself just as she raised her foot to begin her walk to her dorm.

Of course fate had to come in at some point, and what better way that a mob of her fellow students? Not only did they knock her down, but some even trampled over her like she wasn't even there. Dirty footprints littered her body as she laid in the ground, pondering if she had made the right choice.

"Welcome home I guess." she said with a sigh to end it.

Well, at least it was a beautiful day. With no cloud in the sky and a gently breeze it kind of felt nice to lay out under the sun for once instead of being cooped up while studying for her next test. That was a plus, at least her parents weren't breathing down her neck to study day and nice. Everything seemed perfect before something blocked out the sun.

"Hey, are you alright?" she heard, opening her eyes.

And there he was, this cat wearing a pair of red goggles as he stood over her, just looking down. What was he up do? Well to help of course as he extended his hand to help her up.

"Ugh, thanks." she replied as she took him up on his offer, dusting off her clothes once she was up.

"Yeah...that's something you've got to watch out for." he said as he helped brush her back off before raising his goggles.

"Hey, I've got it." she said with a slight slime as she dusted the rest of her body off.

"Alright, picky." he replied as he whistled to himself.

Now that she was up and about he did look pretty cute, or maybe her mother was just rubbing off on her.

"Well thanks anyways, uh..."

"Caz Falcon, but you can just call me Caz or C-Miester." he boasted.

"OK "C-Miester", thanks for the help."

"No prob, but you seem kind of...lacking right now. You may want to grab a weapon before they day is done." he suggested.

"Yeah, that's probably for the best. By the way I'm Malia, you wouldn't happen to know where the weapon shop is located huh?"

"Hm, well according to the map it's right next to Micheal's Major Java, so if you heard there you should be good."

Just when they began to hit it off though he looked down at his watch and saw that it was almost time to do some exploring.

"Sorry but I need to jet. I'll see you around though alright?" he told her as he kicked the skate wheels out from under his shoes and began skating towards the entrance.

"Yeah, sounds good." she said to herself as she watched him grind up the hand rails and into the academy.

Had she just made her first friend? He seemed really nice, and he seemed to know a bit about the academy already.

"Hm, should I really trust him though?" she pondered.

After all they were at a combat oriented school where anyone could challenge anyone no matter what their ranking was, but then again he did seem pretty sincere. Ah, she would have to figure it all out later, but first she had to locate her room and settle down. As she walked through the entrance though it was as if she had entered another world, not only was the ground made of marble, but so were the buildings. What impressed her the most was that not one looked the same, each had been sculpted in such a way that they stood out among the many others. Different types of flowers and trees were spread across the span of the academy, some being as tall as the school buildings while others stood about the height of a normal shop.

"Wow, I didn't expect anything like this. Oooo is that a pet shop?" she wondered as she looked across the street at the many feral animals sitting in the window.

Just as she was about to walk over to it though a boy came flying towards her, only to get rejected as she gave him a good spin kick. Once delivered he flew back towards the crowd of people he had come from.

"Huh, I guess they can happen at any time. Hm, oh right my dorm. Where was it again?" she asked herself as he pulled out her map that came with her dorm key and papers.

According to the map all dorms were located within the eastern district, just across from the main school buildings. Sure, there were things labeled in the map that peaked her interest, such as the diner, pet shop, and antique store, but for the time being she just wanted to find her dorm, fall into bed and take a nice long nap. She was going to need it after all, classes started the next day so she was going to need all the rest she could get.

"And it should be right around here. Ah, here we are." she said as she arrived at the first dorm building.

According to her papers the room she would be staying in for the year was located in the first building and on the third floor. Looking up though she hoped they had an elevator, it must had been at least ten stories tall, and sitting right beside it were two more. Well she wasn't going to get any rest by just standing there, but as she stepped up onto the first step she heard a noise coming from the nearby alleyway beside the building.

"Whoa hold on guys, we just got here. Can't we all just kick back and throw back a few drinks?" she heard, leaning around the corner to see.

"Caz, what are you doing?" she asked herself, recognizing him as the boy who helped her out earlier.

Not only was he pinned against the wall, but pinning him there was a wolf boy and his arachnid companion. It seemed impossible for him to escape from his ambushers as they pushed his back up against the wall.

"Sorry newbie, we gotta rack up some points somehow to gain a reputation. No hard feelings right?" the wolf asked as he pulled out his twin daggers.

"Exactly, and what better time than now?" his spider friend followed up as he grabbed his grenades.

It was clear to him now that there was no way out of it, with both taking up the entire area in front of him all he would be doing was running to his demise if he so much as moved. So with his fate sealed all he could do was fold his arms behind his back before he looked up at his opponent.

"Alright, alright I'll give you that. It's not easy to start out is it, but just for you guys I'll give you a freebie. So go ahead and give it your best shot!" he exclaimed with his head and pride held high.

Well that was eyebrow raising to them, but if he really wanted to help them out then they weren't going to pass it up. With their weapons at the ready it seemed as if his seconds were numbered before he would enter a soothing sleep, but he had something else in mind.

"Hm?" Milia questioned as she saw his right hand move slightly.

And just like that the tables turned as he swung forth his blade of fire. Without hitting them with the actual blade he sent both backwards with the flames that surrounded the cold steel. Had he planned it from the beginning, or was it just a last minute thought she wondered as she watched him neutralize the two for a few seconds.

"What the hell man?! I thought we could take a freebie." groaned the wolf as they both stood up.

"Sorry, but there's no freebies here." replied Caz as he jumped into a ball and landed behind them before wagging his finger.

"Grrrrr, fine but you'll regret this." he said as both came as him with their weapons.

As they came towards him though he held his ground as flames began enveloping his arms. It wasn't uncommon for others to know magic, but these flames felt different. Once they were within range he jumped up, and with his right hand balled up into a fist he smashed the ground with it. The flames went everywhere as both opponents were sent backwards against the wall he was once pushed against. As the fire flooded out from the alleyway she took cover for a split second before they vanished.

"Such power..." she thought as she peaked around the corner.

There before him laid his opponents, both out like a light and alive, though thanks to the fire they had been burned slightly. Still it seemed they were lucky to had only been knocked out by the wall behind them. With his victory in hand he pressed the button at the bottom of the hilt as the blade retracted back inside.

"Yeah, good luck schmucks." he told them both as he brushed the soot off his jacket.

Just as she was about to turn away and leave his eyes turned to her before stopping in his tracks. Once he turned towards her though a cold chill ran up her spine.

"Yo." was all he said.

"Hey..." she muttered, his eyes focused on the soot that covered the left sleeve of her top.

"Want some pie?" he asked.

"Uh..."

"Yeah, come on let's go get some dumbass pie." he told her before grabbing her hand.

What a strange boy, but was he a threat or an ally? In a place like Manji Academy that was always the number one question.
