Little story for koviell for his contest

It was a normal day at the department of motor vehicles; people entered and exited the building, dealing with their own business. It was a mandatory passage for those that possessed a vehicle or wanted to possess one, but it didn't mean that it was an easy one, though, for the demand for services for quite high.

But it didn't scare Koviell, the red scaled kobold; for a mysterious reason, he wanted to get a driver's license and nothing would stop him. Of course, he could always cast a spell or something, but these days, spells were so cliché, so out of date; he needed to be modern, to follow the new trends. To do so, he would need to drive instead of teleporting himself.

It was a small sacrifice, but if one wanted to be modern and trendy, one had to discard comfort for appearance. And anyway, a vehicle could serve other purposes, for he was the Kobold Casanova, after all. Nothing like a car to have a small area for... private explorations...

As he entered the building, he realized that spells had one advantage over the method he wanted to try out; they didn't need to wait in line, as he could observe the long, seemingly endless line that was blocking the help desk.

Perhaps he could try to bribe his way in, although he had the impression that some people wouldn't appreciate his methods, but that wasn't his concern. It had to be his way and they had to respect it...

``Hey there, I know you have been waiting for quite a while, but would you mind letting me pass in front of you? I could... make it worth your while'' said the kobold, as he winked to his interlocutor, knowing that no one would be able to resist his charisma.

``I have been waiting in line for quite a while, little one; you will have to be patient'' said the one in front of him, who happened to be a red fox. ''And for your information, it's not because I am a fox it means I enjoy that sort of thing; geez, why does everyone think we are just perverts?'' he ranted, leaving the kobold stunned.

How could this be possible? How could he have missed his charisma check? This place must be a ground of powerful curses and protections, to stop his bonuses and charms from working. For now, he would play along, until he would find a way to solve the situation.

He waited and waited, seeing the line progress slowly; he wondered if this was just a cruel trick, if this was just a way for nature to show him that he didn't need a vehicle when he could cast a spell. But nevertheless, he would prevail and go forward, vanquising all that would stand in his path...

After what seemed to be hours of waiting, he was finally in front of the reception, ready to give his papers and to follow the procedure. All he had to do was to talk to the clerk and all would be done, a simple memory that would disappear with time.He placed the papers on the counter, hoping that it would be enough; he didn't see how it would cause trouble...

``Sorry sir, but it seems like you didn't fill the papers correctly; you will have to take new ones and wait in line again'' said the clerk, as she grabbed the papers and tossed them in a waste basket. Although he could understand why he was supposed to do such a thing, he found the action a bit severe, but there was nothing he could do, for now...

He was back in the line, waiting; he could have tried his charms again, but after the glance he received after looking at some of the people, it seemed that this place was indeed under the influence of a powerful spell.

Once more, it took him a long time for him to reach the reception; this time, he was prepared, having made no mistake in his application. All he needed now was to reach the desk and give them, so it would be done...

``Sorry folks, but the DMV is now closed for today; please come back tomorrow'' said one of the clerks, as they closed their booths, making the file disperse; it was surprising to see that many people waiting...

So he waited for nothing; he wanted to strangle the clerks, to set the place on fire, but that wouldn't do anything to help his cause, or would it? Listening to his rage, he canalized the power of the flames in his palms, bending fire to his will.

``So you think you can make a kobold wait and wait? Nobody pisses off a kobod; no one!'' he yelled, as he tossed fireballs at the building, letting his rage express itself throughout the magic. It was a beautiful inferno, one that raged for hours as he left the site, content with what he did; there was no point in staying, for his job was no done. He would stick to magic, for the time being.

As he walked away, he saw the fox on his way; testing his theory, he grabbed his rear, only to see the fox blush, enjoying the attention he was receiving. Seems like there was indeed a powerful enchantment on this area, one he would need to learn, one day...
