The Dragon Slave
"Kill them all. Don't let a single one live" Murphy said laughing. "Let the dark power become your new master. Tyrant was strong, but you are stronger Ultimus."
I gave a yell as I drove my sword into Crystal's heart as his body went limp into mine.
"You...tra...itor. How...could...you?"
I didn't answer him as I pulled my sword from his body, his blood spraying on my face. I killed them all with my bare hands, Theft, Venom, Tiger, Greywolf, Crystal, Annabelle, Chris, my parents, and Jenna. Only Tasha remained as I walked up to her, my eyes dark and lifeless.
"There's only one left. Kill her and then this world will be our playground."
"Ultimus, why did you give in?" she said with tears in her eyes.
Blood dripped down the sword I held in my hands as I stopped inches from her. She didn't even react as I drove the sword into her body, but just looked into my eyes. I pulled it out as blood splattered on the floor in thick globs. She whined silently in pain and fell to the floor. I got on top of her, raising the sword over my head ready to finish her off.
"Finish her. Satisfy the evil power by killing her."
"Please....Ultimus. Don't....listen....to....her."
I still had my sword raised, shaking heavily. I didn't want to do it but, the power coursing through my body felt so good. I had to have more, I needed to have more.
"I....got to have this power. It....feels too good to let go. I...HAVE....TO...HAVE...IT" I yelled.
I gripped the handle tightly with both hands and slammed the sword into her chest. She whined as her eyes closed and breathing stop. I let out a yell as tremendous power gathered around me. It found its way into my body, making me feel pain beyond anything I could imagine. I gave another yell, this time waking up. Sweat ran my body as my yell woke Tasha up.
"Ultimus, what's wrong" she said looking at me as I was shaking and breathing heavily.
I held my head as I heard Tyrant laughing.
"Now that's my kind of dream" he said laughing.
"Shut up, shut up" I yelled.
"It seems Murphy has found herself a new host. You felt that evil power flowing through your body. It felt good, yes?"
I didn't answer him because deep down, yeah it felt good. All that power, in the palm of my hand to do what ever I wanted to.
"Ultimus are you okay? You haven't been sleeping well the past couple of days" Tasha said rubbing my back.
"I'm fine" I said getting up.
Grabbing some clothes, I started to get dress.
"Where are you going?" she asked.
"For a walk. I need to clear my head."
"Want me to come with you?"
I shook my head no as I walked out the door. The sun rise could be seen in the distance as the air was cool but not chilly. The morning fog was thicker then normal covering the forest as I started walking towards it. Tasha looked on from the window as I disappeared into the fog.
"You wanted to see me my Lord?" Nappa said on one knee.
"Yes" Thanos said looking at him. "I think we should get rid of that boy once and for all."
Nappa looked up at Thanos in somewhat surprise.
"You were right all along Nappa. I should've listened to you."
"My lord?"
"He is becoming a threat. I don't want the same thing to happen with him like it did with Ramza."
"What do you suggest my Lord?"
Thanos held his hand out as a black hole appeared in front of Nappa.
"Reach inside" Thanos said with a smile.
Nappa reached inside and pulled out a pair of mystical gauntlets.
"What are these, my lord?"
"A little gift I picked up from Castle Oztroja. They give the wearer an unlimited source of power."
"I don't know what to say my Lord."
"You wanted to get rid of that boy, well now's your chance."
"Thank my Lord, I will not fail you. I will get rid of him once and for all."
Nappa bowed again before turning to leave. Zalbag watched as he left before looking at Thanos.
"Are you sure about this my Lord?"
"He has out grown his usefulness to me. I put up with his arrogance long enough. Now he must pay the penalty, which is death."
"I understand my Lord?"
Nappa stood outside the throne room looking at the gauntlets. They were metallic black and hummed with an unforeseen power. Slowly, he placed a hand into each one. Pure energy raced through his body making him shiver.
"Amazing. Such magnificent power I feel from these gauntlets."
He made a fist as his hand glowed with energy.
"Now to take care of you once and for all. Get ready boy, today is the day I will satisfy my hunger to kill you."
He laughed madly as his body got covered with a red aura of power and disappeared in a ball of flames.
"Wow, this is the best meal I had in a long time" Skorp said eating away.
"Thank you. Please, eat as much as you want" my mom said smiling.
"I can see why Tiger and Greywolf are in such good shape."
Everybody started laughing as Tasha walked in and sat down. She seemed very distant as she stared into space.
"Tasha, what's wrong?" Jenna asked.
"It's Ultimus. He wakes up every night from a bad dream sweating and shaking. Then he goes out at the crack of dawn for what he calls a walk. I wish I knew what was wrong."
Skorp stopped eating and looked at her.
"Tasha, I'm going to ask you a question, and I want you to answer me truthfully."
"Okay."
"Would you kill Ultimus?"
"NO, of course not" she said shaking her head.
"Even if the Ultimus you knew ceased to exist? Even if the Ultimus you see before you is hell bent on nothing but your destruction?"
"I will not kill him."
"I see" he said with a smile.
"You know what's happening to him don't you?"
"In a way I do."
"Tell me what I can do to help him?"
"You can't help him with what he's going through."
"What do you mean?"
Skorp took a deep breath and exhaled.
"Murphy's dark influence is starting to affect him mentally and spiritually."
"Who is this Murphy?" my mom asked.
"It's kind of hard to explain. I would have to tell you a whole boring story. But in short, she's a powerful evil spirit called on by Tyrant."
"How do you get rid of her?" Venom asked.
"The only way to do that is to remove Tyrant from his imprisonment in the Light stone."
"How do we do that?" Xellos asked.
"Using the Soul stone and extracting him is the only way."
"That sounds easy enough" Crystal said.
"But doing this comes with a heavy price."
"What kind of price?" Tiger asked.
"By removing Tyrant, you may remove part of Ultimus's memory. Meaning he'll probably won't remember who any of us are. This was an old ritual used by Lord Soa for taking out spirits that possessed people. But he found out about the setbacks and didn't use it anymore. Too many good people lost their memories due to this. It is a very risky thing to do."
Everybody went quiet for a while.
"What will happen if he's not removed?" Tasha asked.
"Murphy will eventually take control over Ultimus's body and Thanos will extract Tyrant from the stone. Once that happens, nobody will be able to stop them. The world will be destroyed along with the galaxy."
Silence was heard once again as I walked in.
"Why the long faces?" I said with a smile.
I looked at everybody one by one stopping at Tasha who just held the saddest expression I ever seen on her. I walked over and knelt down by the chair she was sitting on rubbing her leg.
"What's wrong cutey?"
"I......" was all she could say before she turned her head closing her eyes.
"I was just explaining a couple of thing about Thanos" Skorp said getting up. "Are you ready to go?"
"Yeah....whenever you are" I said still looking at Tasha.
I got up and kissed her forehead before standing next to Skorp.
"Sorry to be the bearer of bad news."
He held his hand up as a column of light covered us and we disappeared. We appeared behind his house as he walked around to the front.
"Wait here a sec, I need to change out of these clothes. They stink."
He ran inside as I heard various things being moving around. He came back out wearing black pants, red shirt and a baseball cap.
"Much better. All right, let's go."
We walked deeper into the forest in silence. Skorp looked at me as I had my arms crossed over my chest and my head down.
"You had a taste of the dark power she can give you huh?"
"Yeah" I said lifting my head. "Why is this happening to me? Why do I crave this power so much?"
"I guess I'll tell you since we have quite a walk in front of us. Murphy, the spirit that's trying to take over you, is an evil spirit of desires."
"So she grants the person whatever they desire?"
"Yes. She was called forth using a forbidden incantation only the dryads know."
"So how did Tyrant manage to get her?"
"I guess after we attacked and I presumed him left for dead, he called upon her with his last bit of energy. She was drawn to his desire for power and revenge like a magnet. I'm surprised he's still able to think for himself."
"Does she take over your body?"
"She has too. The host that calls for her has to give up his or her body and soul in order to get the power they want. Since dryads are such spiritually people, he somehow managed to keep his soul intact and use her power at will."
"In other words, she trying to make me see how weak I am and that I need her more then anything?"
"That would be my guess. She may also need you as a new shell if Thanos is able to extract Tyrant from the stone."
I closed my eyes recalling that dream as I plunged the sword into Tasha's heart, feeling that dark power overwhelm me.
"How long do you think I can hold myself together before I give in?"
Skorp looked at me with a smile.
"You've been doing a hell of a job so far. Don't count yourself out just yet."
We continued walking until we got to a small cave.
"Ah we're here" Skorp said.
The entrance was sealed with some kind of barrier which couldn't be seen but it let off a slight hum of power. Skorp placed his hand on the barrier as it disappeared with a snap. We walked inside as the only light that was given was some phosphorescence on the rocks given the cave a gloomy feel. Towards the end was a huge circular room with a platform in the middle. As we got on, it started to move and descended us deeper inside. It stopped at the bottom next to a huge stone door with no visible way of getting in unless you destroyed it. Skorp chanted some strange language as the door glowed blue, then red and slowly opened. Inside the room, a crystal ball floated above a pedestal.
"Well, what are you waiting for?" Skorp said looking at me.
I nodded my head and walked up to the ball. Reaching my hands out, I lifted it slowly before a bright flash of light blinded me. I rubbed my eyes back into focus to see another dragon emitting from the ball. It was dark purple in color with yellow eyes and horns. It looked at me, then at Skorp.
"Is he the chosen one by Lord Soa?" it said in a rough voice.
"You are correct" Skorp said with a smile.
It lowered its head down closer to me making me back up a little. I felt its hot breath in my face.
"Are you ready to learn what I have to teach you?"
"I am."
"Very well."
It began to glow white and surprising me, dove right for me. I closed my eyes waiting to feel any kind of pain, but to my surprise, I didn't feel anything.
"Where is he? He's late" a voice said.
I opened my eyes to see that same little kid who I now know is Lord Soa standing next to Skorp and Luna on a cliff over looking a lush valley with a huge mountain in the background. Soon, a small wolf came running help the cliff.
"I'm sorry I'm late Lord Soa" the wolf said holding his knees out of breath. "Kirin wouldn't let me go in time."
"You keep spoiling that girl, and she's going to walk all over you" Luna said laughing.
"I can't help it. I guess you can say she has me on a short leash."
"Ha ha, its okay, you're still maturing. Now then, see that mountain in the distance" Soa said pointing to the mountain.
"Of course."
"I want you to destroy it."
"Destroy it? But how? I'm no where near strong enough to do that even with the light stone."
"Use the "Dragon Slave". That should do the job."
"The "Dragon Slave"? Lord Soa, are you sure Ramza can handle that attack?" Luna said looking at him. "I mean, he's still very young."
"Relax I have faith in him Luna. Are you ready?" Soa said looking at Ramza.
"Yes my lord, I'll try" Ramza said shaking a little.
"All right, that's what I want to hear. Now then, prepare yourself."
Ramza nodded his head and took a couple of steps forward. He raised his hands over his head and closed his eyes.
"Begin the incantation and remember, do not stop no matter what is happening around you."
Ramza took a deep breath and relaxed himself before starting the chant.
"Darkness before twilight, crimson beyond blood that flows, buried in the flow time."
The sky began to get dark as the winds picked up heavily blowing dead leaves and other objects in the air. The trees swayed heavily from the gale like winds threatening to strip them bare of leaves.
"In thy great name I pledge myself to darkness."
A ring of power surrounded Ramza as a ball of concentrated energy began to form in his hands. Lightning began clashing in the dark sky as the earth shook lightly. Skorp, Luna, and Soa looked on with amazement.
"He....he may actually do it" Skorp said shocked.
"Told you" Soa said sticking his tongue out.
"All those who stand before us shall be destroyed by the power you and I possess."
He brought his arms to his side, holding this massive ball of power. Opening his eyes, he focused on the mountain, his gold hair blowing wildly like blades of grass in the powerful winds.
"Dragon Slave"."
An intense, red beam shot from the ball pushing him back leaving trails of his drag marks in the ground. It traveled towards the mountain before disappearing from sight. The sky cleared up slowly as everybody was silent. Ramza looked at the mountain in confusing.
"Did.....I do it right?" he asked a little out of breath.
"Wait and see" Soa said with a smile.
After a few seconds, an earth shattering explosion sounded as the mountain disappeared underneath a huge dome of power that expanded quickly, destroying anything that got in its wake.
"That's one hell of a shockwave" Skorp said with a chuckle.
Soa held his hand out as a wall covered them from the shockwave. Soon the dome died down as thick smoke clouded the sky. The mountain that was once there was now replaced with a crater the size of the Grand Canyon. Ramza opened his muzzle in shock.
"Did....I do that?"
"Yep. I knew you could pull it off at your age. And thanks to you, I won 50 bucks" Soa said laughing.
"Humph, you exceeded far beyond my expectations" Skorp said. "And you cost me 50 bucks."
"Yes, you truly are a gifted person Ramza" Luna said smiling.
"Thank you" Ramza said before holding his head and going to one knee.
"What's wrong?" Luna asked walking up to him.
"I....don't...know. I feel....exhausted....for some.....reason."
"The "Dragon Slave" draws heavily on your spirit energy. The more you have, the more it drains from you" Soa said.
"What would happen if I didn't have any left?"
"Then your body would be pulled apart from the sheer power of it."
Everybody was quiet as Ramza looked at the hole.
"Did I need to know this attack now?"
"It's better for you to learn how to use it now, then use it out in the battlefield and end up killing yourself and others."
Ramza was about to speak when his stomach growled loudly causing him to blush.
"Sorry" he said rubbing his head. "I guess it did more then drain my energy."
"Ha ha, no problem. I'm getting hungry myself. Let's grab a bite to eat" Soa said.
"Okay" Ramza said wagging his tail happily.
They started down the hill when my vision was covered again by a white light. Opening my eyes, I was back in the present with the ball in my hand. It turned to stone and began to crumble apart.
"You now know how to do the "Dragon Slave". Like Soa said, be wary how you use it."
"Thanks."
"Let's get out of here."
We exited the cave back out to the forest near the entrance.
"You still look tense. Why don't you take Tasha out for a nice quiet dinner and relax yourself."
"But...."
"No buts Ultimus. The more tense and confused you are, the more Murphy's influence will affect you. I told everybody what was happening with you. Out of all the people, she was the most frightened. Its like the day you die, she would probably go with you."
I sighed and looked at the wedding band on my wrist which had her name on it.
"I don't know what I would do without her."
"You 2 have a very deep, very strong connection. Its like you 2 are one heart, but you are showing weakness, making the blood pump slowly throughout the body."
"So what do you suggest I do?"
"A half a heart can't function as good as a whole. Let her be your guide. Use her as your strength and beacon in the darkness. But in the end, whether you fall prey to Murphy's influence is entirely up to you."
I sighed and leaned up against the cave wall looking at the sky.
"I'm going to send you back now. Don't forget what I said. Forget about Thanos and everything for one day and just focus on her."
"I will and thanks for everything."
A column of light formed under me as I got transported back home. Arriving outside, I saw my mom and Chris chatting away.
"Welcome back. Are you feeling better?" my mom asked.
"Yeah, a little better but not much."
"So what are you going to do now?"
I crossed my arms and closed my eyes, thinking where to take her. It then hit me that my uncle owned the best restaurant in the city.
"Mom, Uncle John still has that restaurant right"
"Of course. That place is his lifelong dream come true."
"Cool. Do you have anything that might fit Tasha? I want to take her there."
"I think I might. I'll go have a look."
"All right. Chris, you still have some connections with the limo company right?"
"Yeah, want me to give them a call?" he asked.
"Yeah, tell them to be here in about 1 hour. I'll get ready myself."
"Will do chief" Chris said pulling out his phone.
I ran inside and went to the phone and called my uncle. He picked up as the sound of dishes and people talking in the background could be heard.
"Golden Sun where the sun never sets this is John."
"Uncle John, it's me Ultimus."
"Arn my boy how are you doing?"
"I'm doing well" I said as the sound of dishes being dropped rocked the phone.
"You idiot, you should know better then to carry that many dishes at once. Clean up this mess right this minute. Sorry about that. Now what can I do for you?"
"You have any open tables left?"
"Here, let me put you hold while I run to the office quick."
He put me on hold as cheesy elevator music was heard. With all that money he makes, you would think he could get some better music. I heard him pick up as paper was being tossed around.
"Let me see.........yeah we have about.......3 left. It's jazz night so you know how quickly they get booked."
"Okay. Can I get one by the window?"
"Will do."
"Thanks unc. I'll see you soon."
"I'll be waiting."
Okay, everything was set. Now to get ready myself as I grabbed a quick shower. Drying myself off, I put on a pair of white dress pants, white shirt, and a black silk vest. Checking the mirror to see if I was complete, I walked out and saw my mom, Chris, Tiger, and Jenna talking away.
"Well look at you" my mom said.
"Where are you going like that?" Tiger asked.
"I'm going to take Tasha to the Golden Sun restaurant."
"Golden Sun? How the hell can you afford that place?"
"I have my connections. If you want, I'll be more then happy to take Jenna one day too."
"Would you really?" Jenna said with a little joy.
"You try that and I'll rip your arms off" Tiger said with a touch of anger.
"Hey relax man, it was just a joke" I said holding up my hands in submission.
Everybody started laughing when Tasha walked into view. She had on a beautiful black dress with gold trimmings around the edges. It had no sleeves as the straps went around both shoulders. A hole was made in the back to accommodate her tail as tiny bits of glitters were sprinkled all around making her sparkle in the light. Black lace gloves covered her paws as a red rose was placed in her right ear. We were all speechless as my mom looked her over.
"I see my dress fits you nicely."
"Yes, even though I have to apologize for cutting a hole in the back for my tail."
"Don't worry about it."
If my jaw could hit the floor like it does in the cartoons, it would've. She walked up to me and smiled.
"Tasha, is.....is that......you?" I said.
"Of course silly. Who were you expecting?"
"My god.....you.......look....."
"Radiant" Tiger said.
"Beautiful" Jenna added.
"Drop dead fucking gorgeous" Chris blurted out.
"Thank you all" Tasha said blushing.
A car horn could be heard outside as Chris looked out.
"Hey dude, you're ride is here."
I couldn't tear my eyes away from her until Chris tapped my shoulder.
"Huh? Oh....right.....the ride.....um....shall we?" I said offering my arm.
"Of course" she said sliding her arm under mine making me shiver slightly as we walked out to the car.
The driver opened the door as I helped Tasha in before getting in myself. Once the door was closed, we headed into town. The Golden Sun was located by the beach front. It was the most popular place to go to with live music everyday, grade A food, and a cache of famous people, one even included the president himself. The driver stopped at the door as the valet opened the car door and I stepped out along with Tasha. Arm in arm, we walked up to the front where my uncle was waiting for us.
"Arn my boy" he said hugging me. "How the hell are you?"
"I'm doing fine unc."
He let go and looked at Tasha.
"And who is beautiful specimen?"
"This is my mate, Tasha. Tasha, this is my uncle John Franco, owner of the Golden Sun."
"Pleased to meet you" she said in a short bow.
"Oh the pleasure's mine believe me" he said kissing her paw. "When you get tired of my nephew and want a real man, let me know okay sugar?"
Tasha blushed and looked away as I grabbed my uncle by the neck.
"What the hell are you doing?"
"Just making friendly conversation."
"You know, maybe dad was right about you. You still are a scumbag."
"Tell your father to suck my fat hairy one. Come you 2, I'll show you to your table."
We followed him to a table by the open window over looking the beach shore. The moon was bright in the night sky as the wind blew lightly, filling the air with a salty ocean smell. The table we sat down at had 2 candles lit with flowers between them. I held the chair out as Tasha sat down.
"I've already taken care of your order. Nothing but the best for my nephew."
"Thanks."
"Thank you Mr. Franco."
"Hey thank me later by going on a date with me."

"To be honest, Venom scares me, Theft is too much of a computer geek, and Crystal and Greywolf are.....different."
"Different?"
"They are Bi. I heard them once making out."
"I see. So what do you see in me?"

We finished our meals with some idle chatter here and there. Soon soft music began to play. I got up and offered my hand to Tasha.

"I wish time could freeze right now just like this, with you in my arms" she said.

We walked down to the shore and listened to the water splash on the beach. The moon hit the dress just right as she sparkled like a diamond. Even though the smell of the ocean was strong in the air, she smiled and chuckled.

"He's wearing the Gallant gauntlets" Tyrant said with some disgust.
"What does that mean?"
"It means you dummy, that his power is doubled if not tripled. I thought those gauntlets were lost during our raid of Castle Oztroja, but I guess Lord Thanos hid them well."
"This is just between me and him, wolf. I'll kill you later once I tear him limb from limb" Nappa said angrily.
"Like hell you will. I won't let you lay a finger on him" Tasha said erupting in power.
It pained me to do what I did next. I went behind Tasha and with a quick strike, knocked her out. I caught her before she fell and kissed her forehead.
"Please forgive me. I will come back to you, I promise" I said pressing her comm as she disappeared.
