Prologue:

First Contact

In 3324 during a routine photo op the sixth version of the Hubble Telescope witnessed the collapse of Jupiter's atmosphere and subsequent explosion. Over two hundred thousand core pieces were recorded. Each piece was at least four miles in diameter. Their trajectories were plotted and Astronomers discovered that the pieces were on a four year long loop towards Earth. The Hubble Telescope was kept on the pieces for their trip until they reached the moon. The first few images were very blurry for some odd reason. After two years they cleared the asteroid belt and were passing close to Mars. However the Mars Mining Colony was on the far side at the time and couldn't see the pieces. After they passed Mars Earth's ground based optical telescopes could be positioned to see the pieces. What they saw astonished them. Clinging to the pieces were trillions of dragons. Some were even flying in huge Spaceships half the size of the moon. The outlines of the Dragons matched that of ancient, Chinese, Japanese, European, Aztec, Mayan, Indian, and Native American dragons. The next two years the Astronomers and various other highly placed people anxiously awaited the Dragons arrival opting to wait and see their intentions instead of a preemptive strike against them. On New Year's Day for 3328 the Dragons arrived. An olive branch broadcast was sent from the ISS IV in orbit around earth. Seconds later the Dragons responded. Everyone sighed in relief. They were not hostile but that was soon to change. During the eighth month of negotiations something happened. No one knows how exactly but suddenly the ISS IV exploded. Immediately The UN blamed the dragons. The dragons protested saying they knew about the ISS IV and made sure they were always opposite its orbital position. Despite the dragons protests the UN agreed on a preemptive strike. Minutes after the burning wreckage of the ISS IV had cooled the UN activated the Laser Satellite Defense Network. Four hundred thousand dragons were killed outright by the barrage. Hundreds of thousands more died from ruptured or damaged suits. Also some hundreds died from internal injuries caused by the ambient heat of the lasers. Outraged by this unprovoked massacre the dragons mobilized their fleet and proceeded to destroy almost all of the Seraphim Laser Platforms half of the Seraph Tactical Satellites and all of the Home Fleet in orbit. Once they destroyed the LSDN the dragons descended into our atmosphere. For the first and perhaps the last time the whole world joined together to form the Global Alliance. They had been discussing a strategy in case the LSDN ever failed. The strategy was to fire land based ICBMs at the incoming dragons hoping to deter them and keep them in orbit. The ICBMs would be fired from their silos in volleys starting with Russia and ending with the US the two nuclear superpowers. Once the Dragons descended into the stratosphere Russia fired all their land based ICBMs and took out eight hundred thousand dragons. Once alerted to the destructive capabilities of ICBMs they destroyed all land based Silos, though U.S. and Russian submarines carrying ICBMs were not targeted. The Global Alliance mobilized the largest army and air force ever seen. Over one billion soldiers, Six hundred million aircraft and ten million land vehicles. Plus close to two hundred million surface craft. They began what many survivors called The Greatest War.
