Chapter 4 to my story. It's been 9 years since I've written anything, so this story is a small test to see what I can do, and how I can improve. If you have any suggestions or thoughts, please let me know. I really appreciate any feedback I get. ~.~ I was a bit rushed while writing this, so I'm sorry if it does not flow as well as it should. I will go back when I have a bit more time to add anything that will help.

"Serenity!!" She sat up with a jolt, her blue and gold eyes focusing in the dark. What the hell? She looked over to the alarm clock on the other bed side table, cursing softly at the time. The blue numbers told her she had slept for 5 hours! How could she have fallen asleep? 'Simple,' she told herself, 'you were daydreaming about the man with dark eyes and red paint on his jaw from the coffee shop.' Grumbling softly to herself, she passed a hand over her face to help her wake up. "Serenity!" The voice yelled again, this time closer. "Damn it, Amy, I'm coming!" She yelled back through her apartment, stumbling groggily to her feet, cursing the day she had given Amy a key to the store below. She didn't mind when her best friend stopped by, but fuck, she hated when she shrieked up the stairs for her.

Yet again stepping over a huge bundle of fur, this one consisting of all three cats and a pair of blue eyes watching her, she made her way through the living room and to the front door, opening it right as Amy was about to pound on it. When Serenity gave the other woman a dark, disgruntled look, Amy at least had the sense to look sheepish, and handed over a dark chocolate bar with raspberry filling. "I brought a present." She said happily, fully knowing it would appease her grumpy friend for now, and walked into the apartment. "Damn, get some lights turned on, would ya?" Amy complained, her eyes not adjusting to the mild darkness well. Serenity rolled her eyes and shut the front door, enveloping the room in total darkness. "Sure, just hang on. You only woke me up from a nap with your shrieking." She grumbled and made her way around the furniture, knowing the layout of the room by heart, and, well... other things. Never faltering, she reached for a lamp, blue and silver in color, with a soft white shade, and clicked it on. Soft, creamy light filled the room, bathing everything in a gentle warmth. With a sharp inhale and a quick mental slap to wake herself up more, she tossed the chocolate to the table and turned around, eying her friend. "Now, what the fuck is so important you have to come shrieking up my stairs, waking me up, instead of calling or texting?"

Amy stared at her for a moment before rolling her eyes. "I called twice, and texted about a hundred times, with no response." Serenity blinked and reached into the pocket at her thigh, pulling out a small, black phone and tapped it to light up the screen. Sure as shit, there were two missed calls and fifteen, not a hundred, texts from Amy. Groaning, she plopped to the couch behind her and rested an arm over her eyes. "Okay, fine. What's up?" Amy bounced excitedly before plopping onto the couch also. "Well, I wanted to know if you got my message about the art gallery opening in a few weeks?" Silence greeted her question for all of ten seconds. "I did. I have an exhibit then, remember?" She looked out from under her arm, peering at her green eyed friend. Not exactly green, more hazel, she told herself. Amy scoffed. "Please, nice try. That's 5 weeks from now, not 3. You don't have anything going on then. I would know if you did." She stated matter of factly, crossing her arms over the plain green t-shirt she wore. Serenity took in her friends appearance. Green and brown plaid shorts, a slightly stained green t-shirt, and brown-orange loafer like shoes. "Amy, you're a dyke. Why the hell do you care about going to an art exhibit?" The woman shrugged at the question, rolling her eyes. "It's an art gallery, I won the tickets, and there will be hot women there. You know, breathing, boobs, my type. Plus, we need to find you a hot boyfriend."

Sitting up and grumbling, Serenity ground her teeth together a bit. She was happy being alone, with her apartment, the cats and the nursery. "I'm happy this way. I have the cats, I have my nursery. Why do you insist on me having a boyfriend?" Amy stood, and scoffed. "Sweetie, I love the cats, really I do, but you need a man in your life. Period." She headed for the door, but turned to stare at her friend. "So, you ARE coming with me, right? Tracy refuses, and I'll drag you there if I need to. " She stated with a smile on her face. Serenity wanted to punch the smile off her face, but wouldn't. Amy was just trying to be a good friend. She understood that, but found it annoying. "Tracy has the right mind in telling you no." Amy scowled but wouldn't give in. You could tell by the look on her face. When the man with red paint on his jaw from the coffee shop flashed through her head, she decided. "Fine, I'll go. I have no idea what to wear though." At this, Amy grinned a wicked grin and waved her hand casually. "Wear that little black number you got a while back for your sisters bachelorette party, with those silver strap high heels. With as pale as you are, you'll fit right in." Serenity stared, wide eyed for a moment before her eyes narrowed. " You want me to wear THAT?! What kind of art gallery are we going to anyways?" Amy nodded back as her grin widened. "Oh, you know, the kind with men you like. Dark, handsome, mysterious. The artist is supposed to be really great, with really violent, beautiful art. Shit you would like." She shrugged and yanked the door open. "Anyways, I'll pick you up for it, okay? Okay." She stated matter of factly for a second time before walking out, shutting the door behind her, not even giving Serenity the chance to respond.

Serenity was left, staring at the door in disbelief. The conversation had lasted maybe 5 minutes, but it felt as if she had signed her soul away. Letting her head flop back onto the couch, she closed her eyes again and relaxed in the silence of her home which was soon broken by the sound of an old diesel engine revving to life. Instinctively, her hand lifted and was greeted by a small, cool wet nose. Running her fingers over the cats nose and between his ears, she could tell it was Leonardo, the siamese cat with sky blue eyes. He was always the first to comfort her at any sign of distress. Following him, Vince and Lyra hopped up and crowded around, their eyes knowing and judging. "What do you think guys... Should I find a way to back out of this shit?" She was greeted by the sound of three cats purring and staring at her. Leonardo crawled into her lap and plopped down, looking up at her with eyes that said he sympathized, but he couldn't provide her with an answer beyond that...

She sat there for a while longer, her fingers petting softly through the cats fur, as her mind drifted back to earlier this morning. The man with the black and silver eyes, the strong jaw, the red paint... A smile tugged at her lips for a moment, her eyes drifting lazily shut as she thought about him, or at least what she had seen of him. He had pale skin, and dark brown hair that fell perfectly to his shoulders, a few of the strands falling lazily across his eyes, which he hadn't even seemed to notice. His eyes were the darkest black she had ever seen, something she found herself surprisingly attracted to, and there was a thin band of silver circling his pupil. He had his ears pierced, one in each lobe from what she could make out. His left ear had held a simple silver ring, while the one in his right had been horseshoe shaped with blue spikes. He had turned away from her to quickly before she could make anything else out, but she loved his eyes the most. Something about how dark they were, like she could get lost in them.

Sighing, Serenity opened her eyes and turned to look at the cats still occupying the couch. "I'm going to go shower... " She stated for no reason, knowing the cats really wouldn't care. Running her fingers through Leonardo's fur once more, she scooped him up into her arms as she stood, and placed him in her spot. The blue eyed beast just looked up at his human lovingly, a paw needing the air as his purring grew louder. Chuckling softly, she turned and walked back to the bedroom, taking a second to stop at the stereo and turn it off. Pushing the door open, she let her eyes drift around the room. The large bed, the coffee cup from this morning, a pile of laundry that needed to be washed... Her eyes wondered back to the bed. It was a large bed for just one person. Maybe Amy was right about it being time to find someone. Walking to stand in front of the mirror hanging from the wall, the female looked at herself for a moment, her fingers moving to the button of her jeans. She unhooked it swiftly, her fingers moving to the zipper. It had been a while since her last partner, a male of 26 that... 'It's in the past, let it go.' She chided herself gently, her thumbs hooking through the belt loops of her pants, tugging them from her hips. They peeled from her legs like a second skin, leaving behind a pair of silky black panties. The shirt followed, leaving her standing there in nothing but black panties and the fishnet shirt. Her breasts were visible, her pierced nipples pushing against the fabric teasingly, a sight made even more erotic by the flow of her long hair.

Staring at herself, she huffed before turning to leave the bedroom, opened a cupboard that held fresh towels and grabbed one, heading to the bathroom. A shower, dinner, bed, then she was done for the night. She had a long day tomorrow in the nursery. Plants needed to be re-potted and prepared for the exhibit 5 weeks from now. Glancing at herself in the mirror again, Serenity pushed her heavy hair from her face as it fell forward, and turned to get her shower started. Turning the cold water on, she let it run for a moment before turning on just enough of the hot to make the water falling from the showerhead luke warm. She preferred the cold, but sometimes a gal just needed a bit of warm water to relax. Hooking her thumbs around the edge of her black panties, Serenity shimmied them down her thighs and let them fall to the floor, the fishnet shirt following immediately after, leaving her completely naked. With one more look in the mirror, her intense blue eyes staring back at her, she shook her head quickly and watched as two ears emerged from the top of her head. They were long and soft, black silky fur covering them. The right one twitched and swivelled, picking up on a soft noise somewhere outside. With that, the female slowly stepped into the tub, letting the pleasantly cool water fall over her skin. As she closed the shower curtain, a long, fluffy tail curled around it's edge, then disappeared into the shower.
