The Sythkyllya is a long-term writing project that I've been working on (and off) for the past decade or so. I've always wanted to create something for others to enjoy, but I'm no popular author and my choice of content and style probably differs too much from the expected. So my efforts have never been displayed to an audience, at least until now.
I can only write well if I'm in a suitably inspired mood, and even that tends to wear off in less than seven-to-ten pages. So I really respect the authors out there who can just write something from any prompt and keep the same quality, or do an entire story series in installments, or things like that. If I try and make something larger, it always ends up becoming a series of smaller vignettes that don't really connect adequately.
Which is why I've decided to take a different approach, by being all modernist and throwing out all continuity and explanations, as well as any ideal of completeness. Although it's not very friendly to the readers, I can't determine any other way to present something that has lots of bits missing and isn't necessarily being written in any sort of chronological order, let alone posted that way.
What I'm going to do is post each of the story fragments I've finished so far, with an arbitrary numerical tag from 000 - 999 in the title, in order to give the reader a general idea of what order everything is happening in. I'll post each of them as and when I feel like it, in a set of ten similarly named folders, each covering a range of one hundred possible values in order to simplify things. Readers are requested to remember that this is a meta-fiction, so other peoples ideas will be shamelessly borrowed, and unexpected characters may appear at any time.
Although everything actually occurs in sequence from 000 - 999, with the exception of any flashbacks that may occur, in practice you can really start at any point you find interesting, and read the rest as much as you feel like or as long as it holds your attention. If it ever becomes possible to re-order the contents of individual folders, then I'll sort the contents numerically to avoid confusion. Since I've abandoned the idea of completeness, each individual fragment relates mainly to the others that are closest to it and those that are in the same folder, such that all of the pieces are parts of a wider whole.
It goes without saying that this will be very confusing, since important explanations will at the very least be missing, and in some cases may never actually exist. Think of it as being like save points in a video game, each reflecting the status of a particular moment but then subject to change. How the player character has gone from one to next, and by what series of bizarre circumstances, may not be readily apparent, but collectively they define a story that must have occurred.
In which case, this would be the readme text file, with an own-your-soul legal disclaimer, and a contact address for the morally irresponsible party. Feel free to visit us at any time, but be aware that we provide no legal remedy whatsoever to careless readers. Caveat lector, as many a better writer has proclaimed.
