#1 of The Tale of Clement and Aluxes

Sunlight streamed through the window and warmed my face, rousing me from sleep. I slowly peeked through squinted eyelids to let my eyes adjust to the light filling the room. The birds outside were merrily chirping away as I sat up and rubbed my eyes. As my thought process slowly restarted itself, I rolled out of bed and shuffled off towards the shower.

My name is Clement, and I've never been a morning person. I haven't had very many friends, since I'm almost sixteen and don't have any pokemon to my name. There has always been something that happens whenever, for example, Professor Willow would give out pokemon to kids from our school, if they were at least ten, so they could help him complete his Pokedex. I would try going and either get there too late, not get chosen, or the pokemon would reject me.

Today was going to be no different from any other day, just another mindless day at school, which, by the way, you were not allowed to stop going to once you had your pokemon, but when you reached eighteen. There were a lot of arguments and the like trying to make it so that once you had your first pokemon you be allowed to leave, but the school board never listened. Although, if we had a bunch of kids who were all about ten running around with very minimal knowledge of anything, I could see how much of a problem that would be.

I got inside the bathroom, turned on the shower, and started undressing. I had fairly decent looks for someone my age; lightly tanned skin, some lean muscle spread out over my frame. My hair was short, usually spiked in all different directions, and auburn in color. My eyes were almost symmetrical on my face, with a greenish brown color. I kept myself shaven, mostly because I thought I didn't look good with a beard or mustache.

I finished undressing and stepped into the shower. I stood there for a few minuets letting the water run over my face, allowing my mind to wander. I thought about whether I would end up graduating alone, or if I would have a pokemon companion to share the event with. I turned away from the water cascading down onto me and opened my eyes to stare out the small privacy window set directly across from the shower head.

Ten minutes later, I was stepping out from the shower, wrapping myself in a towel and going to pick out my clothes for the day. A few more minuets later and I was dressed; brushing my teeth and drying my hair. I finished quickly and half ran out of my room to make it to school on time.

I jogged down the dusty road that lead from my house out in the countryside into the main town of Mimir. The sun was happily shining as it sat low on the horizon, casting it's light brightly around. The sky was a near cloudless light blue, which was good. I never liked it when it was cloudy, the sun coaxes out most of the pokemon around here. Even as I ran to school, I caught glimpses of wild Oddish and Seedots in the forest on either side of the road.

I arrived at my classroom just barely before the tardy bell rang. I plopped down into my seat panting and rested my face against the cool wooden top of my desk and closed my eyes. The teacher began the day's lesson and I paid almost no attention, my mind outside with the various pokemon I could see through the classroom window. Luckily I sat in the back, so I went through the first part of class unnoticed. The sharp ringing of the bell signaling the start of break was the only thing to relieve me from my stupor.

Break passed by for me without much event, just me sitting there watching everyone else with their pokemon and hating life. The bell rang twenty minuets later and we all filed back into class. I propped my head up with my elbow resting against the desk and paid little attention to the teacher. She was going on about a Gardevoir or something like that.

The lunch bell rang about two hours later, and everyone left the room. I slowly made my way through the mass of students to go sit in the small forest that was kept on about half of the school's field. I sat down against one of the more comfortable trees and closed my eyes, trying to get a little more sleep so I could make more of a try at paying attention in class.

I heard them approaching several minuets later, the sound of laughter and footsteps growing louder and louder. I opened my eyes to see about five of the school's "tough crowd" approaching the spot I was at. I glanced around to see if they were actually coming to me, but no one else was around.

The kids stopped in front of me, blocking the sunlight. I looked up at them. Three of them were from my class, and none looked under sixteen. One of them walked up closer than the rest.

"Hey faggot, what're you doin out here?"

A few of the others snickered.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, what're you doing at our spot?"

He looked around at the others like I was a complete idiot for not realizing this or something. I thought for a moment and could not recall one time I ever saw any or them anywhere near this spot.

"Alright, I'll go. Whatever." I said, standing up.

Another one approached me. "Whoa, you can't just get up and go."

"Yeah", the first said, "you came to our spot without our permission, bitch."

"What the fuck is your guys' problem?" I snapped.

I then realized that was not a smart thing to say. Compared to them, I barely came up to anyone's shoulder. I was only five foot two, and had no experience in fights whatsoever.

"What'd you just say?"

They gathered a little bit closer.

"Y-you heard me."

I took a step back and ran into the tree. I was trapped and about to get the shit beat out of me.

"Oh shit, listen to this fucker right here," another added.

"Ooh, a tough guy."

The first one smirked, then suddenly pulled his right arm back balling his hand up into a fist. I closed my eyes and braced myself. I waited, but nothing happened. The sudden sharp cry from one of the guys made me open my eyes.

They were all on their knees, hugging their heads and wailing in pain. I looked around incredulously, and suddenly saw a figure rapidly approaching this spot.

It emerged from the trees and I got a good look at it. It was about as tall as the guys around me were, with ghost white skin and a large, red quarter circle protruding from it's front, about right in the middle of its torso. Its arms were green and long, running down lower than its waist. Its hands had only three fingers on each one, and they were currently balled into tight fists. The green color came up the length of it's arms and then came together at the front with a half circle of white skin around it's neck, like a low cut shirt. The rest of it's body was hidden by a sort of long, flowing white dress, which was cut down the center and had green on the inside of it. It's head was covered by longish green hair that curved around the front of its face, converging to a point at its chin. Its face contained two wide, red eyes, its brow furrowed in apparent rage. Its hair curved around the back of its head and came to a point on its shoulders, going behind either side of its head just enough to show where a humans ears would be. It seemed to have three points coming off the side of its head instead of ears, each going back over its hair for a couple of inches and progressively shortening from the top. It was very skinny, and while it walked, it looked like it was gliding along the ground.

It came to a halt right in front of me and faced the guys on the ground. They slowly got up and gawked at the thing in front of me, which seemed to say something to them I couldn't hear, because they all nodded vigorously and took off running towards the school buildings. I slid down the trunk of the tree until I was sitting on the ground and I ran my hands through my hair.

It turned towards me and crouched right in front of me, the malice in it's eyes gone and instead replaced with a deeply worried look. It's face was very soft looking, very feminine. Yet, it didn't seem like it was female. I can't exactly explain what it was, though. I stared back into its only visible eye and waited for it to do something.

"Are you hurt at all?"

I looked around wildly. The voice seemed to come from all around me, yet the creature hadn't done anything while it was sitting there, breathing slowly.

"Do not be alarmed, please. I am sorry if I startled you."

The creature had a look of apology in its eyes, so I assumed that it was the source of the voice.

"It's a-alright..." I breathed.

"Good. Now, do you have any injuries?"

"No..."

"Thank goodness I got here in time," It sighed.

"In time...?"

"Well-"

The sudden ringing of the bell interrupted the creature and made me nearly jump straight up the tree.

"I completely forgot, I have school."

It paused. "Come here after you are finished."

"Okay..."

I got up and took off for class, completely perplexed by what had happened. I paused at the door of my class and looked back towards the trees to see the creature sitting there in the shade of the trees. I reluctantly turned and walked into class.

As I walked into the classroom, I saw the three of those guys who are in my class huddled together on the far side of the room, talking in low voices. When I entered, they immediately looked up at me and fell silent. I looked away and took my seat. They trudged towards their seats as the teacher entered the room.

The last few hours of school seemed to pass by as if they were a smashed snail trying to reach the top of a hill. I sat in my seat, anticipation driving me insane as I tried to keep from jumping out of my seat and running back to the strange creature. Then, an idea struck me, and I did something very uncharacteristic.

I raised my hand suddenly, making the teacher falter and the kids all turn to stare at me.

"Y-yes?" She managed.

I went through explaining the creature that I saw out by the forest. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the three kids staring at me the whole time, jaws set and eyes murderous. I smirked as I finished my explanation, making sure to say I just observed it passing by over by my house and not that it was in the forest or that those guys were involved.

My teacher stood there for a while, just staring at me. I stared back, not quite sure what to say or do.

"Are you absolutely sure that is what you saw out there?" She said after a few moments of silence.

"Yeah. You think I'd make this up?"

She sat down. "Well, if you're telling the truth, then you saw a Gardevoir."

"...what?"

"That was a Gardevoir, a Psychic type pokemon with the ability to see into the future. They are thought to be nowhere near this area, but you seem to have found one."

"Huh," was the only thing I could manage.

The rest of class passed by even slower than usual. When, finally, that bell of freedom rang, I was up and out the door faster then anyone would've thought possible.

As I burst through the door and searched the forest, there it was, sitting in the same spot as when I left for class. I felt bad about making it wait, but I wasn't about to cut class when I was already on the brink of failure as it was.

I ran over to it, bumping into multiple people and earning many nasty remarks for doing so. I stopped, panting, in front of Gardevoir.

"Hello again."

The voice washed through my head, and I felt as though I was light as air. It was a very pleasant voice.

"H-h-hey" I panted, trying to catch my breath.

Gardevoir stood up. "Come. Let us walk together."

"W-where?"

"Do you not go home after this?"

"Well, yeah..."

"Then come."

Gardevoir set off towards the front entrance with me following along behind it. We walked through the busy streets of town, receiving numerous stares from whoever we passed. We traveled all the way to the stairs leading up to the dirt path leading out from town before Gardevoir suddenly stopped and turned to face me. I bumped into it and would've fell, if not for it catching me. It had surprisingly smooth skin on its hands. It righted me and withdrew its touch.

"What are we stopping for?" I questioned.

"Do you not need rest after walking so far?"

"Nah, I do it almost everyday."

"Alright."

We started walking again, traversing the steps and continuing along the dusty road. We walked slowly, side by side, so I stole a few sideways glances at the Gardevoir while we walked. I remembered my teacher telling us that pokemon with trainers usually had some sort of mark, something they wore that indicated they belonged to somebody. I couldn't find anything on Gardevoir that looked odd compared to the rest of it, which made this whole thing more confusing. Why would a wild pokemon want to have anything to do with me?

We approached my house not too long afterward. Gardevoir stopped at the space between the fence surrounding our yard that opened to a stone path through the front yard leading up to the front door. I looked up at it questioningly.

"Aren't you going to come inside?"

It stared at me.

"I mean, I thought you might want to rest or something..." I trailed off into silence.

It stared at me for a moment longer. "Yes. I will come inside."

I smiled and turned to lead Gardevoir into the house. I pulled the door open and stepped inside. The front door opens into my living room, with a set of stairs around the corner to the left from the doorway. I slipped off my shoes at the door and went up the stairs, straight into a hallway running to the left and right. Down to the right were two doors, one leading to my room at the very end of the hallway and one leading to the bathroom up here, which was about halfway down on the left.

We headed into my room. My room is fairly large, it has two windows, one facing the door and one on the western wall. The walls were a cream color and the carpet was a light gray. I crossed the room and opened the blinds to let in some light. I had a queen size bed to the left of the door and a large bookshelf off to the right. The bookshelf had an immense amount of books about pokemon and various other subjects, almost none of which I had even touched since I've had them.

Gardevoir walked in, examining the room. It eventually went over to my bed and sat down, staring at me now. I went over to the desk underneath the western window and sat in the office chair, swiveling to face Gardevoir.

"So..."

Gardevoir raised a hand to silence me. "I presume you want an explanation of what transpired earlier today."

I nodded.

"I, as you now know, am a pokemon. I have psychic powers exceeding many other pokemon who have psychic abilities. I haven't always considered myself a pokemon, but have come to use that term more and more as I have listened to people's thoughts. I do not just hear what anyone around me is thinking, I have to concentrate intently on them. I can, as you also know, speak directly into an individuals mind, be it human or otherwise. I also have the ability to see into the future, which I find myself doing only rarely lately, since what fun is knowing what is going to happen next?"

"When I came to this town last year, I wandered in from the surrounding forests. Not knowing where to go or what to do, I found a small cave and settled in. I discovered my ability to hear thoughts when I came across several other wild pokemon. I sat down and stared at them, trying to speak into their minds when I found myself hearing what they were thinking. This interested me, so I wandered over to the edge of the forest and tried it out on people who passed by. I found that it also worked on them."

"About two months after this, I had learned how to speak human language from listening to their thoughts for so much time. The mental images combined with the words they thought helped me decipher the meaning behind them. One day, when I was sitting near one of the roads leading into town, I saw a boy walking along the path. I positioned myself to be sure I was out of sight, and I concentrated on his thoughts. His mind was most fascinating. He was constantly filled with ideas of pokemon, of the special bond that they would share as pokemon and trainer."

"I learned of how kids would be given a chance to receive a pokemon when they reached the age of ten. I then learned of how he has never gotten one in the last four years, how something would go wrong every time."

"I decided to follow this boy and learn more of who he was. I followed him to a great building that had very loud ringing bells at fixed intervals throughout the day. I waited for him and after a certain amount of time, he would leave the building and walk back across the dirt path into town to a house. I listened to everything he thought of, and eventually the pokemon giving event entered his thoughts. It was to take place in several days time."

"I wondered how it would go, so I followed him to the place the event was taking place. All the kids were lined up in front of the building and would enter, one by one, not to be seen for several minuets before they would emerge with a read and white ball in their hands."

"I saw the boy I followed go into the building. He was in there a lot longer than everyone else had been in there for. When he had finally emerged, he was staring at the ground, tears flowing freely from his eyes."

"I was stunned, so I followed him as he ran back to his house. I concentrated on his thoughts and discovered that he had tried to pick a pokemon numerous times, but each one had rejected him for whatever reason. I sat there and listened to his grief until the boy fell asleep."

"From then on, I followed him everyday, noticing that each day, he became more and more cynical. I longed to help him, but I still kept my distance from him, not wanting to frighten him, since he knew nothing of my species. I did this all the way up until today."

"I watched as the boy approached the forest at the school and sat against a tree. I noticed the emotion of hatred for the boy emanating from five boys in particular, who started approaching the boy minuets later. I watched as they harassed him, one even about to punch him, before I could take it no longer and intervened in his life."

"I forced an overload of psychic energy into the boys' minds so as to incapacitate them long enough to get a message across before sending them away. I threatened all of their lives if one even so much as touched you ever again. I then told them to leave and never speak of this incident to anyone, for there would be dire consequences."

"I then met with the boy and lead him to his house, where I am currently sitting."

I sat there in silence. Gardevoir waited for me to respond, staring into my eyes intently. I cleared my throat.

"That's... uh... that's... I don't... um..." I mumbled.

"Hmm?"

"I don't quite know what to say... I guess... I kinda want to get to know about you better, since you know so much about me."

"What would you like to know?"

"Well, do you have a name?"

"Yes, it is Aluxes"

"So, you're male?"

"Yes."

This continued for quite a while, me throwing out random questions and him replying. I learned many things about him, such as where he came from before this town, where his species is native to, along with other smaller pieces of information, such as his favorite color and what he does for fun.

"Um..." My brain had run dry of questions.

"Is that all?"

"OH! Do you have a mouth?"

"Yes."

To demonstrate this, he opened it. His lips were very thin, which was why they looked nonexistent when his mouth was closed. His teeth and tongue looked just like a human's.

"Huh."

He closed his mouth.

"Why don't you speak?"

"I choose not to."

"Oh."

I was silent as I looked out the window. I hadn't even noticed how much time had passed, it was already getting dark.

"Are you done asking questions?"

"I... I think so."

"Alright."

He stood up.

"Where are you going?" I said, also standing.

"To my cave of course, why do you ask?"

"Well... I... don't want you to leave..." I looked at the floor, blushing slightly.

To my surprise, he walked over and embraced me.

"I will stay."

"Really?" I asked, looking up at his face.

He looked down at me and smiled warmly. "Of course I will."

I wrapped my arms around him. "Thank you." I murmured, hiding my blushing face against his chest, next to the spike.

"I thought of another question."

"Hmm?"

"If you can see into the future, then why were you thankful you made it to me in time today?"

He paused. "I can see into the future, just not for matters concerning you."

"What?"

"I have tried to look into your future, but I can see nothing."

"That's odd."

"Indeed."

I yawned.

"Are you tired Clement?"

"How do you know my name?"

"I have heard your thoughts before, remember?"

"Oh..."

I yawned again.

"You should sleep."

"Will you stay?"

"Yes, I will."

"Oh, but where will you sleep..." I trailed off, trying to think of a solution.

"Do not worry, I will find a place."

"But-"

He placed a finger against my mouth.

"Hush. You need some rest."

I found myself being lead towards my bed. I pulled back the covers and flopped down on the bed. Almost instantly, I found myself losing consciousness. As everything stared to fade, I fought to keep my eyes open.

"You'll.. stay... right?" I managed.

"Yes, now sleep."

I let myself drift off with the idea of having the entire day tomorrow with Aluxes, free of worry.
