#6 of Various Information

The true megacorporation of the setting and the one that really shouldn't be messed with by anyone. It is, for that reason, one of the more vital corproations to write up.

Omniwatch

The largest corporation in human space, Omniwatch is a multi-purpose corporation with a focus on bioengineering, genetic engineering, psychic research, and xeno research. Omniwatch also has other branches dealing with weapons development, starship construction, and other necessary branches and corporate endeavors to be a fully independent corporation among the stars. Hiring roughly two and a half million employees across the entirety of human space, Omniwatch is almost as large as the Alliance government's bureaucracy, though arguably more efficient. To protect the vast assets and the large number of employees, Omniwatch fields a military larger than the Alliance and far better equipped due to the corporation's closely guarded technological edge.

Omniwatch was founded in 2109 CE as a minor gene therapy corporation in Hong Kong by an unknown individual. As genetic modifications became more readily available to the general populace, Omniwatch was more than happy to deliver its products to consumers. This included, but was not limited to, prenatal gene therapy, correction of brain damage, removal of undesirable traits, and small alterations in a form less invasive than plastic surgery and more effective all around. As all companies specializing in such things learned quickly, the devoutly religious were the first to speak against the genetic modifications. Omniwatch ignored them while expanding through China, though learned they could not upon arrival in the United States.

In 2123 CE, Omniwatch arrived in the United States properly by setting up a corporate office in Los Angeles and several smaller branches which reported to it. Not even a year later, religious fundamentalists had bombed the Omniwatch headquarters in LA, killing about three hundred and causing severe structural damage to the building. Despite hiring security from another company, Omniwatch saw the error of their ways very quickly as they had failed to prevent this attack in the first place. As the government investigated the bombing, Omniwatch organized its own security forces and took advantage of lax laws in order to equip them with military grade weapons and protection, much of which procured from the US Army. Omniwatch patrols in the streets of LA became a common sight.

Following the bombings, 2125 CE marked a change in corporate policy following several unsuccessful lawsuits from American citizens that were displeased with the genetic services they received and were demanding money back. Without a waiver system in place, having not had to worry about it before, Omniwatch was forced to close American offices for a time while changing policy. The result were waivers for even the smallest operations, with the signings filmed and recorded so that if a lawsuit came up, a claim of signing it under duress couldn't make it a legitimate claim. Five class action lawsuits were averted this way, and became a point of pride for the corporation.

Canis Logistics attempted a buyout of Omniwatch in 2143 CE, citing the genetics achievements made by Omniwatch would be able to boost their employee's ability and move cargo around the world faster and more efficiently. Omniwatch prevented the buyout by buying back all stocks, handing them to the board of directors, forcing Canis to cease its attempts. Once Canis withdrew the offers, Omniwatch went public with its shares again with redistribution of the shares to the former shareholders without additional charge despite the money lost in such an action.

During the rush to get to Mars in the wake of successful colonization, Omniwatch acted on the sidelines, modifying plants and such where necessary in order to make them adapt to the Martian environment. Despite its actions, Canis still beat them to setting up on Mars, though Omniwatch was right behind them in 2160 CE. Omniwatch needed more local outposts and labs in order to better understand the changing climate and environment, and the local government on Mars was more than happy to set aside labs for them. Making use of Canis freighters, Omniwatch set up its outpost on Mars.

The arrival of the Tau Ceti ship in 2176 CE was a welcome arrival for Omniwatch. Scientists that came aboard the ship were quickly hired by Omniwatch. Through Omniwatch, the scientific principles that built the Tau Ceti gate were refined and reproduced in Omniwatch labs on Earth and Mars. Determined to best Canis Logistics, Omniwatch had developed a better, faster, and more easily constructed jump gate. In 2194 CE, the new fleet of Omniwatch ships finished deploying it to match up with the Tau Ceti gate.

Until the formation of the Republic of Terra, Omniwatch was left alone by the United Nations and other, smaller and local governments. What couldn't be avoided legally was bribed, and what couldn't be bribed was neutralized. With the Republic's formation and additional oversight, Omniwatch's central headquarters was moved to Alpha Centauri in 2215 CE. There they had additional tax breaks and incentives, and their deep space stations were under significantly less government oversight, to the point they could get away with the testing that they were performing.

Also setting a milestone for corporation independence in space, the First Canis-Silverdyne War in 2215 CE was of note to Omniwatch, who provided weapons and materials to Silverdyne Manufacturing. Those weapons were enough to inflict rapid losses on Canis, but wasn't the death blow to Canis Interstellar that Omniwatch was hoping for. When the Republic laid sanctions upon Silverdyne, the Omniwatch board of directors gave a collective sigh of relief at their involvement never coming to light.

Arrival of the Brakians to the public light received mixed opinions across the entirety of Republic space. While Canis Interstellar had embraced them, Omniwatch was the first to actively campaign against Brakian integration, along with Silverdyne. Elements within the corporation pushed for buying out Chara and enslaving the entire species, working them until they were extinct. Other elements had supported integration. With Omniwatch on the verge of splintering under the social pressures, the CEO forced limited integration of the corporation, which eventually became full integration later down the road.

Attempts at spurring a Brakian uprising within Canis failed during the timespan between 2234 and 2257. When the Tesgno were found in the latter year, Omniwatch stood aside and let the rule of the Republic decide their fate rather than risking a corporate collapse. Seeing Canis accept them too resulted in the Republic accepting the Tesgno and Omniwatch reluctantly accepting them as well. As per their corporate mission, Omniwatch began experimentation upon both species in 2261 CE, seeking to map out the entire genome and readily make genetic modifications in order to create better versions of races that the board of directors already saw as inferior.

When the Second Canis-Silverdyne War occurred, Omniwatch stepped aside and let them fight each other. During this time period, however, the corporation began a rapid development program for its naval forces. Silverdyne resources were flowing into Omniwatch - though steadily being phased out by Omniwatch's own mining programs - and the materials were being used to build new ships, maintain old ones, and develop new technologies should war ever come. During this time period, however, Omniwatch had a surge of worker strikes across several systems. In 2305 CE, Omniwatch cracked down on all unions among its employees. It became the first corporation to strip workers of rights outside of working and the rights stated within their contacts. Other corporations soon followed suit.

Following the actions of the Republic at the end of the war, Omniwatch and other corporations descended into a corporate silence. With Omniwatch still being the most powerful corporate entity as of 2323 CE, they handled most of the high level planning and logistics. Canis, of course, was building ships to move supplies and Silverdyne was getting materials to everyone. Smaller corporations retained importance and helped in their own ways, but the three largest were the driving force behind the plans in place. As agreed, and after enough construction, Omniwatch funded rebels on Epsilon Indi, and the corporations rushed to back the rebels.

The War of Sovereignty began properly in 2433 CE after a standoff between the corporations and the Republic. In a war that lasted 37 years and spanned the entire Republic, Canis, Silverdyne, and Omniwatch were the three leading corporations that fought against the Republic's forces. Hundreds of thousands died, largely at Alpha Centauri and Sol, before the Republic finally surrendered at the Peace of New London. Canis, Silverdyne, and Omniwatch secured their positions as the three largest and most powerful corporations in human space, though Omniwatch was the only one truly larger and stronger than the Colonial Alliance.

As of present day 2550 CE, Omniwatch has dominance over roughly half of known space, a fleet of several hundred warships, and a massive, autonomous network of labs and facilities that keep Omniwatch independent of other corporations and entirely self-reliant as they continue to grow, expand, and discover new systems.
