Whelp here begins the day I start writing, this story is highly inspired by LucarioZer0's Love and Aura series and is my own attempt at a novel. Apologies for the very beginning being so emotional, especially since you haven't even got a chance to meet the duo yet, but I hope you enjoy it non the less.

Jonah sighed as the path he was travelling abruptly turned into the woods. Jonah reached his arm down to his belt, grabbing the familiar red and white sphere. Quickly he pressed the button and threw the sphere into the air. A white light slowly taking the shape of an eevee took its place.

Jonah smiled as his pokemon came into view "Kyuma, looks like the shortcut to Snowpoint was a bust." Jonah looked around surveying the area "Damn! I was hoping we could beat the snowstorm."

Kyuma glared at the young trainer "Vee,vee!"

Jonah laughed, scratching Kyuma behind the ear "Sorry girl I forgot how much you don't like those words."

Kyuma nodded smugly "Vee!"

"Guess we better set up camp before this snowstorm hits huh". Jonah threw his backpack on the ground, and unzipping it taking out a small tent, and began setting it up. Just as he finished pitching the tent snow began falling.

Kyuma jumped around excitedly "Vee, eevee vee, vee."

Jonah looked around before noticing the snow "Crap we're going to need a fire." Jonah began to frantically run around collecting kindling and twigs. "Kyuma help me out here!"

A light layer of snow already covered the ground. Frantically Jonah tried to start a fire with the kindling Kyuma and himself had gathered. "By Arceus why won't you start!" Jonah clenched his fists together and kicked at the pile of wood and leaves "Why does nothing ever go our way!"

Kyuma whimpered lightly at how Jonah was reacting, this wasn't like her trainer, and she didn't like seeing him like this.

Jonah looked toward his canine pokemon and regretted ever acting out "I'm sorry Kyuma I just wish we could catch a break." The trainer reached down picking up his furry companion "Come on you little fluff ball, no sense standing outside in the snow."

Kyuma's tail began wagging happily "Vee!"

As time went on the light drizzle of snow changed into a blizzard the temperature dropping by the minute. Jonah stirred quietly trying his best not to wake Kyuma. His mind wandered to the day when she first came into his life.

Tears were streaming down Jonah as his father just told him of his mother's death. "Son I know how you're feeling, and you are being very brave to hold up as well as you are." The boy's father wrapped his armed around Jonah as his sobbing continued. Jonah looked up at his father speaking between gasps of air "Why'd momma have to go?"

His father sighed "To be honest I don't know Jonah. Sometimes there are bad people in the world, and she just happened to be in the way." The two stared off into space silently at the answer. Eventually Jonah's father reached behind him picking up a newborn eevee. "I know it doesn't bring mom back, but.." evvee walked over to Jonah nuzzling against him as if saying don't worry. Jonah reached out his hand petting the fluff ball before him.

"What's her name?"

"Well I guess that's up to you two." Jonah's father smiled as he saw his son pondering over what to name his first pokemon.

Jonah looked to his eevee "How about Kyuma?" eevee jumped excitedly in response "Vee!" A smile formed on Jonah's face "All right then Kyuma I'm going to make sure nothing bad ever happens to you."

Quietly he began to shake and fought to hold tears back "I'm sorry Kyuma" Jonah wrapped his arms around his chest trying to comfort himself "Me and my stupid plans are about to get us killed." Jonah turned and stared at Kyuma focusing on the steadiness of her breathing. The trainer reached for his pokeball grasping it in his hand "Kyuma return."

For a while Jonah stared at nothing with a somber look in his eyes until he realized how cold he was. "I'm sorry it turned out this way Kyuma, but at least you can still be saved." Jonah closed his eyes as the cold lulled him into a deep sleep. His body trembled from the cold, but also with the thought of death right around the corner.

As sleep began to overwhelm Jonah he could just barely make out the form of his eevee reappearing. Jonah spoke in a weak whimper "Kyuma no." With the last of his strength Jonah reached out towards his furry friend before his body turned limp, and his vision went dark.
