Day 1: I admit to an unscientific excitement as I begin this long-awaited day. Six years of college, three years of participating in the lottery, and two hard years becoming top student in the exotic creatures department of the university - all have led to this day. My ticket has been turned in, and I have been dropped by the transport in the middle of the sanctuary. Today, I begin two weeks of study that will form the basis of my thesis - and I am certain that I shall easily achieve my doctorate in exotic studies. But first - I must find my subjects...

The snap of Jasper's note book being closed echoed back from the rocky outcroppings just visible on the other side of tall trees. He tucked it into an inside pocket of his long leather coat, stretched, and rose to his feet. Standing, he cast a last look around the landing pad where he had been deposited by the two-man gyrocopter ten minutes before.

Students who won the study lottery often didn't realize exactly what they were getting into until they arrived at the remote sanctuary. Only one person was allowed into the area at a time to avoid stress to the creatures that lived there, and no structures had been built for the same reason. Jasper was under no illusions that his stay would be easy or simple - he was living rough for the whole two weeks.

Jasper smiled, pulled the heavy pack up over his shoulders, and headed for the rocks. He had a few hours of daylight remaining; that was more than enough time to set up his base camp near the sites he had selected as likely sighting points for his quarry.

Day 3: Thus far, the weather for this trip has been ideal. I have placed my camp at a pleasant lake near the rocky cliffs that should be a good location to find my study subjects. However, thus far I have been unable to find indications of them around the water source or along the plains that I suspect are good hunting grounds. Game has been plentiful; I have seen rabbits and small deer in various locations. I must be patient. Today I shall be moving my camp up to a ridge, which should provide me a better viewing spot.

Pebbles scrittered from under Jasper's feet and bounced down the steep ridge side beneath the student. He held tight, shifted his feet for a better hold on the rocks, then shoved himself further up the hill. For the first time, he regretted the heavy pack he wore. It dragged back, almost throwing Jasper off balance while he pulled himself up to the top of the ridge.

His map reading was correct - there was a small, flat expanse at the base of a taller cliff that would be ideal for a camp. A stream trickled nearby, perfect for a water supply. And if it rained an overhang would cut down on the weather.

Jasper nodded, turning to face back out onto the plain below. It was a marvelous view - he could see the lake below, the plain spreading out next to it, and the forest.

"Oh, this is perfect!"

He admired the view a moment, the scene perfectly silent save for a rattle of pebbles shifting down the hill behind him. I'll have to watch for that, he thought, turning back around.

A pair of amber eyes on either side of a rather large beak, met his and canted to one side curiously.

Jasper froze on the spot. The white-feathered eagle head tilted the other way, its intelligent gaze looking him over. Behind that head, a large leonine body plunked down into a seated position, its slim, tufted tail twitching.

The gryphon and the student stared at each other for a long moment.

"Chrrk?"

"Gah!"

Jasper jolted at the curious chirp from the hybrid. He inadvertently stepped backwards. Pebbles scattered underfoot just enough to throw him off balance.

Windmilling his arms, the young man fell backwards down the hill. The last thing he saw was a surprised-looking gryphon peering over the hillside towards him...

Jasper groaned, opening his eyes. Or, at least, he was fairly sure his eyes were open. The darkness was slightly more grey than black, so that was a safe assumption to make.

He sat up slowly, wincing, to take stock of the situation. His head throbbed immediately, a sharp jab that nearly set him reeling. The student ran his hands over his head, feeling dampness on the back, and groaned. He could remember falling, remember...

A gryphon! He'd finally found a gryphon!

That realization jerked him upright, a movement that immediately became a bad idea as his head pounded and a violent stab of pain jammed itself up his left leg. He sat down abruptly at the pain, only to find something vaguely soft in the way that threw him off to flop on his side on the hard rocky ground. Scrabbling in the dark, Jasper managed to find the offending item: his pack.

Through the sore head, he managed to turn the bag upright and find the battery lantern within - somehow undamaged in the fall, though other fragile items looked trashed. Light shimmered out, and Jasper looked around.

He was rather surprised to find that instead of laying at the bottom of the hill where he had expected to find himself, he was instead in a cave. It was a little taller than he was - good thing, or he'd have knocked himself silly! - and he could see an opening at one end, but the other seemed closed off. It was clean, with little dust on the ground, and the floor seemed to have been polished - a water flow, perhaps?

Jasper stared around, confused. How had he wound up here? Had he walked here only to forget he had done it? And what had he done to his leg?

Purple swelling spreading up from the top of his boot gave him one answer: that was a very bad sprain, if not a dislocation. Rudimentary medical training told him that he needed to immobilize it immediately. Forethought, though, ensured he had supplies in his bag. He rummaged for his medical kit until a scratching sound caught his attention.

Two amber eyes gleamed at the opening to the cave. He froze.

The gryphon stepped through the gap, its fur a dull beige in the dim light. Jasper held his breath as the lion-bird moved to within twenty feet, then sat on its haunches to regard him.

Through the shock, Jasper saw that the gryphon was somewhat shorter seated than he was standing, broad of chest and muscular. It ruffled the mighty wings that settled against its back, and that eagle head tipped to one side to return his scrutiny.

Why was it just staring at him? he wondered. It had him trapped. He knew gryphons ate large game sometimes. If it had brought him here - and that was the best guess as to how he'd arrived - then was it for him to be lunch? Or dinner, or whatever time it was outside the cave? Why else would he be here?

The gryphon scratched at the cave floor with one long talon, regarding the student. Its head tilted one way, then the other, and then it stretched out on its belly, simply looking at him.

Jasper frowned. Apparently he wasn't dinner. Well... in that case, he might as well take care of immediate needs. Keeping a close eye on the gryphon, he opened the medical kit and drew out what he needed for his ankle. The bird's head flicked to the equipment, then back to him as he pulled his boot off and winced at the dark purple bruising he found.

Abruptly, the gryphon stood and trotted out of the cave. Jasper blinked at the sudden departure, shrugged, and probed his ankle cautiously - and painfully. Not broken, he was sure of that, but the sprain was one that he should certainly keep off of for at least a couple of days.

He was preparing a bandage when the gryphon returned and stepped cautiously towards him, something in its powerful beak. It moved closer this time - not close enough for either to touch the other, but almost - and flicked its head.

Several inch-thick sticks landed neatly at Jasper's feet. He blinked down at them, then back at the gryphon, which motioned its head towards his ankle a couple of times.

"Are... are these for me?" He realized even as he was speaking that it was probably a foolish thing to do, but the gryphon's head popped up at the words. And it nodded.

Jasper stared at those amber eyes, amazed. "Did you understand me?"

Again that nod.

"...How?!"

The gryphon churked, its great beak opening slightly in what almost looked like a smile. It raised one foreleg and tapped its head with a talon twice.

"I ... the books never said anything about gryphons being able to understand English!"

It looked confused for a moment, then chirped gently again. Perhaps it knew only a little of the language, Jasper thought. He picked up the sticks carefully. "Thank you."

His host - he assumed - tilted its head and opened its beak slightly into that "smile" again. It tapped its head down against one foreleg, then motioned to his ankle once more.

"Did someone do this for you?" he asked, speaking slowly as he fashioned a rudimentary splint. "Is that how you know how this is done?"

The gryphon tilted its head, then gave a nod.

"Huh. None of the reports I had seen ever mentioned any direct contact with gryphons."

It cocked a gaze at him again and shook its head. He smiled as the bandage tightened. "I'm sorry. I'll speak slower. Is that okay?"

The gryphon nodded again.

"Okay. My name is Jasper." He tapped his chest.

"Chrrrchk!" The gryphon ruffled its wings and its tail actually wagged.

Jasper grinned through the pain. "I don't think I can manage your name, if that's what that was."

Feathered shoulders shrugged slightly as the gryphon stepped closer to him. He watched, nervous, as it gently butted him in the chest with its rounded head until he settled back onto the floor. His new - friend? - gave a satisfied nod, tapped the knee of his injured leg, and laid its head back with eyes closed. It was obviously suggesting that he should sleep and let his leg heal.

Considering he had no idea what time it was, Jasper decided that some sleep would be a good idea. He took a moment to pull his bedroll from where it hung on his pack and spread it out, wincing at the ache from his leg when he adjusted himself. The gryphon watched from a few feet off until he was settled.

"Thank you," Jasper said.

The gryphon ruffled its wings and gave him that open-beaked smile once again, then turned. It - well, she, Jasper noted as her long tufted tail swished with her movement - retired towards the light from the outer cave. Still confused by his predicament, Jasper slept.

Day 5 (estimated): This is a strange and fascinating dilemma I find myself in. I have rested for what I suspect is a full day, if not longer, in the cave of a gryphon. In the process, I have discovered that the gryphons - at least in this preserve - are able to communicate! I do not know how they have learned the language, or how much they understand, but my host is a gracious communicator and has proven genuinely friendly. Much of my equipment has been damaged - including my emergency transponder, of course, which was smashed beyond repair - but my leg is beginning to feel somewhat better, so I will attempt to explore my current location somewhat today. In the process, I hope to learn even more about my new associate.

Warmth radiated from the fire in the middle of the large cave, a compact pit with the ash of many nights' worth of burning beneath it. Jasper wasn't sure how the hybrid could have started the fire herself - but on second glance he saw a pile of flint rocks nearby that were of a size that could fit comfortably in the gryphon's talons.

A feathered head lifted as he limped out of his alcove. The gryphon stood, stretching. "Churr?" she chirped, stepping up to Jasper. Her amber gaze went to the young scientist's leg.

"It's feeling much better, thank you." He smiled at the hybrid. "I won't be walking very far any time soon, but at least I can move around."

The gryphon fluffed her wing feathers and tapped at his arm with one talon. He looked perplexed. She carefully closed her claws around that arm and tugged, motioning with her head in the same direction. "You want me to walk with you?" The answering nod confirmed his guess. "All right. Lead the way."

As it turned out, the gryphon's intention was to give him a tour of the cave. It was an impressive cave, and he wondered if it had been constructed or improved by human hands at some point in time. The way in which the various amenities were placed suggested such: he considered it unlikely that the gently trickling water flow at the back of his alcove that washed waste perfectly down a crack in the rock was totally natural. The chimney above his host's central fire pit seemed to have been carved as well, and the walls were just too smooth in a few places.

"You have an amazing home..." Jasper paused, and the gryphon cocked her head at him curiously. "I wish I could figure out your name. Would you be offended if I were to give you a name of some sort?"

The gryphon's head tilted back, then forth, as she considered his request. Then she gave an affirmative chirp and sat back on her haunches with an expectant air.

"Oh good!" Jasper considered her soberly, pondering options and always aware that she could quite easily rip off his arm if she didn't like the name he offered. Her amber eyes stayed locked on him as he thought. "Well... How about Amber? Like your eyes?"

She blinked and ruffled her feathers. "Chrrchrk?"

He pointed to his eyes. "Like mine are brown. Yours are a lovely amber colour. They really are beautiful."

The gryphon thought about this for a moment, then flicked her wings and gave him a pleased nod.

"Amber it is, then! Thank you." Jasper motioned to her. "I think I disrupted your tour, Amber. Please, lead on?"

The newly-dubbed Amber flicked her long lion tail, brushing it along Jasper's leg as she stepped past, then canted her head towards the dim light from the front of the cave. He followed along, limping heavily. The cave opened up, then narrowed to a smaller entrance through which late-day sun shone.

Jasper stopped at the entrance with a gasp. The cave was, he estimated, halfway up the mountain overlooking the preserve. A ledge at the cave mouth caught the afternoon sun admirably - he could feel the warmth of the rocks beneath his feet. Beyond that, the valley spread out, green trees, blue water from the lake and a brown patch at the copter landing site in the distance.

His intended campsite was a surprising distance away - close to a mile, Jasper estimated. He was relatively slim, but still a significant load for a winged lion to carry. He glanced at Amber, who sprawled on the warm rocks, watching the shadows creep across the ledge as the sun sank across the valley. She appeared slim, but there were muscles rippling beneath her thick fur - he had no doubt she could lift him if necessary.

Why she felt it necessary, now, that was a different thing entirely. It wasn't every day that injured humans were taken in by rare creatures. Jasper smiled at the gryphon. This would be an invaluable piece of research for him to take home.

Amber glanced up at his scrutiny, stood and shook out her feathers ostentatiously. Apparently, Jasper thought with amusement, gryphons also had a vain streak, because Amber definitely struck a deliberate heroic pose on the ledge before spreading her wings and leaping into the air.

A gryphon in flight is magical. He kept expecting her wings to snap back from the weight of her body and send her plummeting, but instead Amber was able to swoop and swirl as agilely as any sparrow. She circled twice over the ledge and let go a low cry, then swept off towards the lake in the distance as Jasper watched the graceful form recede.

Day 7 (estimated): My hostess, who has accepted the name Amber, has proved to be quite gracious. She has provided fresh fish twice, which I have cooked and shared, of course, and once a rabbit. She has proven to be quite intelligent; I described a few simple herbs that grow in the preserve, and she procured them within an hour or so - and appears to appreciate them on her food. I had expected the gryphons of the preserve to be predatory to larger creatures, but much of Amber's diet appears to be smaller game and fish. She has shown a surprising appreciation for the hard candies that I brought along, as well. We have spent significant amounts of time together as I await my ankle's healing; she is still somewhat aloof, but appears to appreciate the company. I have seen no other gryphons thus far, I should note: I am sure they exist, but they seem more reticent about sharing my company than Amber.

Jasper was sitting in the central cave sketching - he was a fair hand with a pencil, as the image of Amber focused on her skeletal structure showed - when his hostess returned with a beak full of trout and a slightly flustered expression. He looked up, setting aside the drawing, as the gryphon skittered to a stop to plunk the trio of fish down in front of him.

"Something wrong, Amber?" he asked, curious. She shook her head and instead delicately picked up the boughs he had been using to roast fish in her beak, nudging it towards him. "You want me to cook these up for you? Of course."

Her expression changed to one of relief. Without a single motion or chirp of explanation, she spun and dashed back out of the cave.

"Well, that was odd," Jasper mused as he bent the boughs around to handle the trout. "Must be very hungry."

Just as the skin of the fish flaked, he heard claws at the entrance and turned to see Amber enter - with another gryphon, this one contrasting with her eagle markings with its shades of grey and black. It flinched in surprise, stopping at the door to look at the human warily.

Jasper stood slowly, his hands spread. "Hello?"

Amber came forward to nudge Jasper in the back, gently. He limped towards the other gryphon; apparently Amber wanted to introduce them.

The student extended one hand carefully towards the new hybrid and spoke carefully, slowly. "My name is Jasper. Your friend here helped me when I hurt my leg. It is a pleasure to meet you."

Cautiously, the new gryphon approached. Its grey head feathers were lifted slightly, nervously, but it still gave his fingers a light nudge as it caught his scent. Amber stepped up to lean against Jasper's leg - not enough to put weight on his sore ankle, but just enough for obvious friendly contact. Her friend tilted its head from side to side, surveying the human, then gave a short nod of its head.

"I have fish cooked," Jasper said, motioning towards the fire. The newcomer perked up at that - as did Amber, who gave his leg a pat with a talon as the two gryphons moved towards the well-cooked fish.

The new arrival was definitely male, Jasper noted as they all took one of the roasted trout. He stretched out near the fire and made short work of the few pounds of fish. Amber, Jasper noticed, sat close to the male, occasionally darting glances at him and once or twice fluttering her feathers coquettishly. Jasper smiled to himself - apparently Amber had brought a date home.

Their fish completed, the two gryphons took a few moments to preen before rising. The dark male made his way towards the cave mouth. Amber paused, trotted to Jasper and gave him an affectionate nudge on the shoulder with her head before turning to join the male.

Jasper found himself smiling foolishly at the show of affection. As the twosome disappeared into the evening, he drew his sketch back out and continued, whistling quietly to himself.

Later that night, something drew Jasper out of sleep in a gentle way. The student rolled over on his bedroll and lay in the dark, eyes open, wondering what had caught his attention.

Quiet rustling of feathers and fur drifted through the gap into the main cave. His host had returned from what he amused himself by thinking of as her "night out," Jasper assumed. But no, it sounded like perhaps there was more than one body out there.

Jasper rolled back over, intending to go back to sleep. Curiosity drew him up out of his sheets and towards the "door" to his alcove. He peeked around the edge of the rock, keeping quiet.

The fire in the main cave was still burning, less brightly than before but still enough to cast a pleasant glow across the occupants. Amber and her friend - he was considering asking whether the newcomer would accept the nickname Dusk - sprawled near it, and it was obvious what they had been doing when he woke up. She stretched languidly out on her side with his dark-feathered-and-furred body resting against her back, his head nestled against hers. Fluids glistened on her rump, and both appeared thoroughly sated.

Embarrassment flushed the student's face as he realized he'd caught the aftermath of mating, and he started to retreat, but the male gryphon shifted, bringing a paw up and over Amber's chest. Jasper stopped, watching as the two groomed each other's feathers almost sensuously.

She churred amiably under the male's ministrations, and her position shifted under him. Their grooming started to become a little more motivated as the two rubbed and stroked against one another. Then Amber drew herself out from under the male, turned, and slowly hiked her rump, her tail drawing to the side. Jasper had a perfect view of the female's sex, pink flesh showing amid the beige fur.

The male stood and gave Jasper's host a knowing look. He ruffled his wings and shifted, and Jasper got an excellent look at the gryphon's pendulous sheath and sac and the thick, tapered erection jutting from it as the male rose to mount her.

It took several thrusts but the male found his target quickly. Amber churred, her rump rising, as that shaft sank into her. He nipped at her neck gently, standing against her, and then started to thrust, hard and deep.

Jasper had an excellent view of the action, the male's erection sliding in and out of her slick sex, her labia rippling and tugging at it. Despite trying to tell himself that this was part of his studies, he found himself becoming aroused. He tried to ignore the growing bulge in his underwear, but it had been a long time since he had pleasured himself, and the scene was very arousing. As the two gryphons mated harder, he reached in and started stroking in time with the male's thrusts, watching raptly.

Fluid dribbled from the female's slit and she ground back against the male, who responded by biting more roughly at her neck and shoulders, his paws grasping around her middle and pulling her tight against his broad chest. Their wings spread out and caressed against one another to the wet sounds of the male's hips striking her rump and the squelching of his cock plunging in and out of her.

As Jasper watched, his shaft now freed from his boxers and being stroked quickly, Amber tilted her head up and keened low and lustfully. He saw her rump muscles clench around the male's length, and a moment later he thrust deep and joined her voice with his. Thick white semen pulsed out of her and dribbled onto the floor. Jasper's own seed emulated what he watched, spurting against the cave wall and dripping down as he peaked, trying his best to keep from making any noise - not that the two gryphons were likely to notice as they sagged in a tangled, tired heap in front of the fire once again.

The student stepped back from the cave entrance and slumped back onto his bedroll, panting. Part of him felt uncertain about his reaction to watching Amber and her partner mate. The greater part was too tired to worry much about it.

He fell back asleep with visions of mating gryphons sharp in his mind.

Day 8 (estimated): It has long been speculated in the documentation I have reviewed that gryphons function similarly to their single-species cousins when it comes to breeding cycles. With my observation of Amber and the grey-and-black male I am referring to as Dusk last night and today, I am leaning towards this being correct. The two have been inseparable; I observed them mating on the stoop of the cave when I awoke, witnessed an aerial spectacle that was truly impressive but likely damp for any creatures standing below, and have witnessed multiple bits of evidence that they have been breeding repeatedly. When I have encountered Amber, she has been rather surprisingly affectionate - much like a cat. I do not know how long her breeding cycle lasts, but it appears this cave will be busy for the foreseeable future.

A cool breeze blew across the cave shelf as Jasper settled himself on his folded coat and leaned against the rock. His ankle twinged, and he shifted it to keep the pressure off. It was feeling better, but not enough for any really vigorous walking - so he simply relaxed, resigned to waiting another day or so.

Not that he minded the current situation. His association with Amber and Dusk - he reminded himself to ask the male the next time he was near whether that name was acceptable - would be absolutely certain to earn him honors for his thesis. For now, with no gryphons nearby, Jasper had to amuse himself. Much of his amusement had been carnal, what with the hybrids mating repeatedly - he had felt odd every time he had pleasured himself with those scenes in his mind. But for now he simply intended to relax.

Jasper stretched out and pulled a small item out of his shirt pocket. He had brought few items of entertainment for this trip, and this was one: a harmonica. He often got gently made fun of in dorms as he learned how to play, but it was a hobby that certainly cost less than the drinking and general carousing his fellow students engaged in.

He smiled and started to play quietly, improvising as he went. The sun crept downward as he made music - occasionally stumbling, squawking or simply losing the tune - and simply enjoyed the evening.

How a winged catbird of Amber's size could move so quietly, he would never understand. One moment he was alone, the next there was a beak in his line of sight. "Wha!" he exclaimed, nearly dropping the harmonica. "Amber!"

The gryphon was thoroughly unabashed, and seemed amused at his discomfort. She poked her beak at the harmonica and tilted her head curiously.

"Hmm?" Jasper looked at the harmonica, then back at the hybrid. She raised a talon and tapped at it, then motioned to his face. "Oh, you want me to keep playing? I was doing okay until someone snuck up on me..."

Amber squawked gently and ducked her head, then looked up at him, looking for all the world like a scolded puppy - or as close to it as a gryphon could come. Jasper laughed. "All right, all right. I'll play some more."

She leaned forward and bumped her head against his shoulder, then sat on her haunches expectantly. Jasper had never had such an attentive audience. He grinned at her as he started to play again, the harmonica's tones echoing from the cliff face. Two songs, then three, and four, and the gryphon watched him all the way, her tail swishing and head moving along with the beat.

Finally he lowered the harmonica to catch his breath. Amber flashed him a disappointed look, but then stood and leaned in to rub her cheek against his. He blinked at the affection, only to realize her beak was rooting in his shirt pocket. "Hey, get out of there, you sneaky thing!" Jasper shoved her away. "Was all that you just trying to get more candy?"

Amber flashed an eagle-grin and stood, looking towards the cave. "Oh, fine. I have some candies left. Let's go get one for you."

She turned happily and trotted to the cave, her tail tuft batting him gently on the nose, its flick giving him an uncomfortably good view of her hindquarters, still swollen with her season. Jasper shook his head and followed the gryphon in.

Her rump was already disappearing through the entrance to his "suite" when he caught up. Thankfully the hybrid had proven perfectly respectful to his privacy and had not rooted into his pack - otherwise he would be out of candies and she would be gaining weight. Still, Jasper picked up his pace.

He didn't need to; Amber stopped just inside the alcove, swinging her head back and forth, beak raised. Jasper paid little attention, going to his bag to dig out one of his depleting collection of candies. When he turned back, expecting her to be waiting for the treat, she was in fact sniffing at the wall of the cave.

"What's-" He paused, remembering the earlier night when he had masturbated watching she and Dusk, and realized she was inspecting the wall where he had ejaculated. And not cleaned up. "Er."

The gryphon snuffled at the wall, then turned back to Jasper and padded forward, sniffing at him curiously. He backed off, but came up against the cave wall as her beak travelled up and down, finally settling just below his belt. Her gaze rose and met his, with a definite question in her expression.

"Um. I, er. Well, I, ah... accidentally saw you and your friend the other night, and got caught up in things..."

Jasper felt much like the time he'd been caught masturbating by his mother when he was in his teens. Amber looked baffled for a moment, then sank to her haunches and made the head motion that the two had been using to indicate she wanted him to expand on his explanation.

He flushed. "I pleasured myself watching you and Dusk mate. I'm sorry, but it was very ... arousing. You... ah, the two of you, your mating, is quite a sight."

"Chrr?" Amber tilted her head back and forth, and made that motion again.

"Like what you've been feeling... the need to mate. I just, uh... can do it myself."

The gryphon regarded him with those amber eyes for a moment, then stood and, before he could even move, had hooked a talon in the waist of his trousers and tugged them off his hips.

"Amber!" Jasper tried to dance clear of the gryphon, but tripped and toppled over on his side. He rolled onto his back, and found himself staring up at the hybrid, whose beak was hovering over his groin.

She sniffed again, and Jasper shivered as her beak tapped against the bulge in his boxers, which surged towards arousal at the touch. Amber blinked curiously, and with a quick motion tugged the fabric clear of his groin and down with her beak. Jasper yelped at the rapid motion of that hooked beak, but Amber simply stared down at his exposed penis, half-erect.

"Amber... what, uh... what are you...?" He gasped as she leaned down and caught the scent of him. She tilted her head and rubbed a cheek against his penis. That soft touch surged him to full erection in an instant. He moaned with pleasure at the light brush against his groin.

Amber looked over his exposed arousal and gave a low keening chirp, breathing in his scent once again before rubbing the other cheek against his length. He groaned softly. She caught his gaze and flashed that bird-smile before taking to her feet again.

The gryphon's tail slowly swept from side to side as she rubbed her head against his chest for a moment, before she slowly turned around. Her hindquarters pointed towards the student's face, and her tail deliberately lifted to give him a full, close-up view of her swollen and wet sex lips, showing pink among the beige fur of her lion body.

"Amber... what are you doing?" he breathed, his eyes locked on her labia. "I don't... I don't understand."

She gave a gentle huff and lowered her body to rub lengthwise along Jasper's arousal before coming to a halt before him - her forequarters lowered and rump raised in an unmistakable pose. He had seen it repeatedly the past days just before Dusk mounted her.

A wave of emotions rolled through the student's mind. Shock - Amber was offering herself to him! A gryphon wanted him to mount her! Fear - what if he was misunderstanding her? If he did something stupid would she tear him to shreds? Uncertainty - this was an animal, and wasn't it bad to be aroused by one? But was Amber truly just an animal, considering the level of communication and contact they had made?

Amber wriggled her body, her tail brushing down to run along his thigh as her sex lips twitched before his eyes, and the only emotion that remained was arousal.

The gryphon's rump tensed at the pressure of his hands on her hips. Jasper stroked her fur from his kneeling position, and she relaxed. Amber's tail curled around his hip, and she turned to watch over her shoulder when the tip of his shaft rested against the wetness of her entrance.

"Are you sure about this?" he asked, breathless. At her affirmative nod, Jasper thrust forward, sinking into her tight heat, scant inches at first, with another push burying himself fully.

Amber was hot around him, her muscles clenching to adapt to his presence. She keened low and arched her back at the penetration. Jasper knew that he was of a size with Dusk, knew that the hybrid could comfortably take him fully, but he didn't move too quickly for fear of reaching his peek far before he wanted. The pressure of her body grasping at him and the taboo nature of the act - he was having sex with a gryphon! - made him feel that it was likely he wouldn't last anyhow, so Jasper decided to make the best of the situation.

His fingers curled in Amber's fur, gripping her tightly as his hips started to piston, pulling out and pushing back into her tight folds. The gryphon hissed with pleasure and arched to meet him, rocking to take him deep on each stroke, her wings unfolding and rustling as Jasper gained confidence and thrust harder against her leonine hips.

Amber's head rose and he felt the tension in the gryphon's muscles rise as he plunged rapidly in and out of her folds. Jasper had no idea whether gryphons could climax or not - it was certainly not discussed in the research material - but he tried his best to stimulate the female as well as possible, grinding against her with each stroke, changing the angle of his thrusts, scratching her spine near where it met her twitching tail. She appreciated all of it, vocalizing low and lustfully.

A thought crossed his mind, and he slowed to a stop. "Amber? Can we try something? It might be new for you..."

The gryphon turned and cocked her head at him curiously, then ruffled her wings in a mix of curiosity and agreement. Jasper smiled and slipped out of her. "Lie down on your back?" he urged, motioning what he wanted her to do. She looked slightly confused, but acquiesced, settling and looking up at him through her forepaws.

He looked the view over for a moment, stroking the insides of her thighs and letting his fingers drift over her puffed mound, feeling the slickness of her juices. She churred as he explored her, spreading her lips and caressing here and there until he found what he was looking for. Amber arched her back to meet his touch as a fingertip brushed over the firm nub of her clitoris, and he smiled.

"I'm not really good at this stuff - at least with women... maybe it will work better with you." Amber looked confused by his comment - but gave a startled squawk as he ducked down and used his tongue to caress her clit. She had a gamy scent, not unpleasant, and her sex tasted... clean, with a hint of wild musk that did nothing more than drive Jasper onward. His fingers slid into her and she clamped down tight, her body writhing as he pleasured her with tongue and touch, thrusting in and out while flicking his tongue tip against her center of pleasure.

It had the desired effect, and quicker than he had expected. Amber tensed, clenched and with a loud keen climaxed, pulsing around his fingers. Her fluids bathed his mouth. He lapped at her for long moments until she relaxed.

Jasper straightened, looking down at the sated catbird, pleased with that bit of study. But he was far from done. She lifted her head to watch as he took one of her hind legs and raised it before burying himself into her again, this time face to face - or as close to it as he was likely to get.

The different position offered a different sensation - more friction, more heat and an incredible view of her body as he thrust into her. She wriggled and writhed, her beak hanging open, her chest rising and falling rapidly as the two mated. Jasper slid his hands up to hold her hind paws, his fingers twining carefully with the toes of those feet, and rolled her up to give himself better leverage. Amber moaned, one of the more guttural sounds he'd heard her make, in response to him speeding up his thrusts again.

The position and the pleasure of the gryphon's body gripping him quickly pushed Jasper towards his peak, but he lingered, slowing, wanting the moment to last as long as possible. Amber too seemed to savor the sex, rocking her hips to meet him, her breath coming faster and muscles tensing once again - Jasper realized the position was pressing his cock against her clit firmly, and grinned, slapping hard against her, trying to push her over once again.

Her grasping muscles were more than the young scientist could handle, however. He felt the familiar wave of pleasure rise, and crest, and with a deep moan erupted, pumping a heavy load of thick seed deep into the gryphon's belly. She chirped and ground against him hard as he came, and he felt her pulse once again, writhing against him with the throes of her second orgasm, her muscles milking him for all he could give.

Finally Amber sagged beneath him, her hindquarters dropping to the floor. Jasper felt himself slip out of her wetly, slumping back onto his knees. She regarded him through her spread legs, chest heaving as she caught her breath. He watched, panting, as a trickle of thick white fluid dribbled from her sex and pooled against the bud of her anus. The gryphon clacked her beak and "smiled" as she settled, motioning with her claws for him to move nearer. He did, and Amber caught him in her forepaws to draw him against her.

Jasper raised his head and looked at the gryphon, who rubbed her cheek against his forehead affectionately. "I... was this okay? I mean... I'm human, and you aren't, so..."

She chirred and shrugged under him, then gave him a warm hug with all four legs. "I guess it's okay, then... though I am very sure I won't be putting this in my report."

Amber flashed him that avian smile again before turning her head and picked something up neatly with her beak. Jasper peered at it, and rolled his eyes. "You'll really do anything for candy, won't you?"

Day 14: I suspect that today is going to be very interesting back at the university. Amber and Dusk - who has accepted that name gracefully - have assisted me in leaving a note at the pickup location, along with an extensive handwritten report that I think will fully justify my staying in the preserve for an additional period of time. I am certain that they will not begrudge me the opportunity to work further with these gryphons, as a starting point for a lexicon through which we may communicate more closely with the magnificent creatures. The fact that law states only one person may be in the preserve at any one time should also help keep other researchers clear for some time - until the bureaucracy clears that regulation up, at least. Hopefully it will be long enough to experience another stage in gryphon reproduction - birth. Or egg laying. I am not quite sure which. I look forward to seeing what lays down that road, along with my new friends. Though I do hope that my request for further supplies is fulfilled - as I am nearly out of candy. A pregnant gryphon without her sweets may be a challenge I am unfit to face...
