#4 of Sage's story

Chapter four in my first story

As I opened the door of the house, Sage was quivering with excitement. As the door finished opening, she walked up to the doorframe and peeked inside. Sage looked at me for a second.

"Why is it dark?"

I laughed and flicked the light switch. The house lit up in an instant. Sage jumped back in surprise, but quickly ran inside to explore her new home. I walked inside, closed and locked the door, then went into the kitchen to make dinner. I always kept the kitchen stocked with canned food or ingredients that wouldn't go bad. I opened up one of the cabinets and grabbed a few cans of beans and some spices. I then proceeded to make beans for dinner.

Sage was wandering around the upstairs portion of the house where she found the bedroom. She walked inside and saw the bed. She had no idea what it was so she walked up to it and poked its mattress. It was soft and springy. She quickly got on the bed and hopped slightly. Feeling it bounce her slightly, she started jumping on it! I heard the noise downstairs just as I finished making the chili so I walked upstairs to look for her. I peeked into the bedroom where she was jumping and watched her giggle with glee as she flew higher with each bounce. I realized she was getting very close to the ceiling so I ran next to the bed and caught her before she could bounce higher. She stopped giggling and looked as though she had just been caught robbing a bank. I smiled at her.

"Dinner is ready."

Sage looked very relieved when she saw I wasn't mad. I walked downstairs with her and set up the table. As Sage sat in her seat she realized she was too short to reach the table. She looked very sad. I thought about the situation for a moment and grabbed a cushion from the couch for her to sit on. She reached the table with ease once she sat on the cushion, so I walked over to my seat and sat down to eat. When I looked over at Sage, she had her face in the bowl and was practically drinking the food. I laughed as soon as she finished. Her muzzle was completely brown from the beans and there was a bean stuck in her nose. A few beans had escaped the bowl and dribbled down her front. She was staring questioningly at me while I laughed and once I had calmed down enough to speak brought her in front of a mirror. She giggled slightly.

"Hehe, oops"

_ _ I quickly ate my beans and then looked at Sage.

"let's get you cleaned up."

I led Sage to the bathroom and turned on the bath, checking to make sure the water was a comfortable temperature. While the bath was filling, I told Sage I was going to change out of my clothes and then went to the bedroom to change into a pair of shorts, and then I came back. The bath was filled just enough to wash Sage when I got back I picked her up carefully and stepped into the bath with her. As I gently lowered her into the water, I grabbed some Pokemon shampoo and rubbed some into her fur.

"That smells nice."

"Good. You're going to smell like this for a while."

I grabbed a towel and wrapped Sage in it. The towel quickly absorbed all the moisture from Sage's fur. I unwrapped Sage and carried her to the bedroom for the night. Her fur felt softer than anything I could remember. I sat down on the bed, still holding Sage.

"Well, there's only one bed, so I'll take the floor"

"Are you sure? I would be fine sharing."

I set her on the bed and said, "Yes. I'm sure"

As the night began, Sage fell asleep, but I couldn't get comfortable enough to sleep. So instead I stood up and walked over to my writing desk. My writing desk was my friend during long nights. I would often stay up into the early morning writing poems, stories and my general thoughts. As I sat down tonight, all I could think about was Sage and Tali. I began forming rhymes in my mind and began writing.

"How should I start it?" I asked myself I decided to start with the line "In the darkest night."

Morning came and I was still at my desk writing. I looked back at the bed and saw Sage sleeping peacefully. I smiled and knew that I had made her happy and would continue to do so for years to come. I looked back at my poem and continued writing. A few minutes passed, then an hour. I finished my poem at last and stood up to go make breakfast when I saw Sage standing next to me.

"Can I read what you wrote?"

"Um... Sure, I guess. This will be the first time anyone other than me has read anything I wrote though, so if it's bad it's not from a lack of effort."

I grabbed the poem and handed it to Sage. She started reading it as I made breakfast. Sage was not the best at reading so she came downstairs and asked me to read it to her. I smiled and replied, "sure thing." I began reading the fruit of my night's labor to her. This is the poem that I wrote.

In the darkest night

I will turn to fly

And see the height

That is the sky

The earth is trembling

As if in rage

Such power is frightening

Coming from my Sage

I love her dearly

She is my own

Her smile so pearly

And not as stone

I know that Sage

While quick to fight

Can calm her rage

Throughout the night

The sun is rising

The clock is new

I see birds flying

And new spring dew

I miss my Tali

She was my friend

She now has left me

A hole to mend

A hole in my chest

Where my heart should be

Is no longer a mess

I can know what I see

I see a Riolu

So tender and sweet

She controls all below you

Right under your feet

She carefully watches

The swaying branches

And waits for the day

That she can play

Forever

Without measure

With me

And Tali

I finished reading the poem to her and she stood staring with wide eyes and a big grin on her face.

"That was really cool! You should write more poems!"

"I already have." I replied with a smile "But for now, it's breakfast time!"
