We made our way to the nearest hospital and requested an appointment with their hand specialist. We were admitted in within the hour and I was soon being examined. The doctor told me that Nurse Joy had been correct. My right hand needed to be amputated. The good news was that he could give me a robotic hand after the surgery. I gladly accepted his offer. He was curious how I had done this to my hand and I recounted my story. The amputation was to take place later that day. So I spent the time waiting explaining to Sage what was going to happen to my hand. As I explained Sage burst into tears saying "this is my fault. If I hadn't eaten those gloves, you'd still have your hand." I responded by saying "But if you hadn't eaten those gloves, you wouldn't be alive. And I probably wouldn't be either." I said. "The point here is I love you and I will make sacrifices to make sure you live a happy comfortable life. Whatever path you choose in life, I will follow and support to the best of my ability." The doctor came out and called for me to come in. I looked at Sage, and asked if she would like to watch. She nodded. We were both nervous as we entered the room. The doctor had Sage leave the room as he amputated my hand and knocked me out for the process.

When I woke up, I had a new hand. I realized that the hand could feel. It was a bit of a dull feeling, but that was better than nothing. I looked over at Sage and realized she had a death grip on my shoulder. "Hey, it's ok now. I have a hand again." She relaxed when she heard me say that, but still held onto my shoulder. I reached over and pet her with my new hand. I was disappointed that I couldn't feel the softness of her fur. I thanked the doctor and asked how much I owed him. He responded by telling me that after hearing my story about how I lost my hand, he wouldn't charge me a dime. He did ask that I let him examine Sage. He said there was something different about her than other Riolus, aside from the fact that she could speak to people. I looked at Sage and she nodded that it was okay. I then told the doctor it would be fine. He thanked me and started looking closely at Sage. After a few minutes he walked over to me and whispered in my ear. "You have a special Riolu. She is special because almost everything about her is twice as potent as normal. That includes things like strength. However, it also means that her emotions are twice as easy to set off. Which explains why she bonded to you so quickly, but she's smart enough I think she will be fine. One other thing, she is about twenty five years old in Riolu years."

I looked over at Sage who seemed curious about what was being said. I realized I had a huge smile on my face. I couldn't feel more happy or proud that I was the closest thing Sage had to a father, but at the same time I couldn't help but think that I needed to let her know her age somehow. For the moment, I just shrugged it off and decided to figure out what to do later. I thanked the doctor for his time and walked out of the hospital with Sage on my shoulder. Sage asked what the doctor had told me in the office. I responded by saying "you're a very special Riolu." I left it at that to let her figure out what I meant. After we had walked for a while, I set sage down and knelt in front of her. "Do you want to train to be able to fight?" I asked. "I would love to begin training as soon as possible" she said. I smiled and said "Then let's go to the training gym."

After a few minutes of walking, we arrived at the training gym and I walked over to their training dummies. I found a sturdy looking dummy and told Sage to attack it. She nodded and rushed at the dummy. As she ran, her paw turned purple and a small sphere appeared in front of her paw, growing bigger with each step Sage took. When sage's fist made contact with the dummy, the dummy turned purple and exploded, throwing pieces of rubber everywhere. I picked sage up and hugged her. "That was amazing! You really are something special!" I set her down when I realized everyone in the gym was staring at us, most of them with their mouths open. Many people started inching their way towards the door. Both Sage and I realized this and we ran out of the gym hoping to avoid a battle at this point in our training. As we ran, I figured that Sage probably didn't need any training, although we should probably figure out what else she was capable of. For the moment I just wanted a place to stay for the night. I was about to go to the Pokemon Center for a room when I remembered that I actually owned a house only a few minutes away from where we were. I looked at Sage and asked "Ready to go home for the day?"

"Home? I have a home?"

I replied by placing her on my shoulder and walking home. On the way, I noticed a lot of trainers looking our way. Geez. Word spreads quickly around here. As I was thinking about this, I accidentally ran into a trainer on the path. I said "I'm sorry. I didn't realize you were there."

"Didn't realize I was here? I'm about the only thing around here to see! You're gonna pay for that. I challenge you to a battle!"

I looked at Sage and asked if she was up for it. She nodded and glared at the man who was being so rude to us. I stepped back and took my place on the path for the battle. Sage stood in front of me, barely reaching my knee in height. The man laughed. "You call that a pokemon? I'm going to enjoy having my Feraligatr crush your little Riolu's head in!" He then let out a Feraligatr that stood at least seven feet tall. I looked at Sage who seemed a little worried. The man told his Ferailgatr to go wild and have fun. The feraligatr grunted its approval. At this point we had a large crown around us quite interested in seeing who would win. The Feraligatr rushed at Sage. Sage responded by Jumping over Feraligatr. As Sage was falling to the ground she concentrated all of her energy into her paw and it started glowing purple. As she got close to the ground, her paw was shining so brightly that no one could look at it. Sage thrust her paw into the ground, concentrating the blast towards the Feraligatr. As the blast traveled, the ground shook. The area that the blast directly traveled over was forced high into the air, leaving a jagged trail that was a few feet tall. When the blast made contact with the Feraligatr it was still very powerful. The Feraligatr was enveloped in a purple veil and it fell to its knees. As soon as the veil cleared away, the Ferailiagtr's trainer ran over and ordered it to stand up and fight. The Feraligatr responded by grunting, then fainting, a slight trickle of blood coming from its nose. The trainer saw that he had lost so he put Feraligatr in its pokeball and ran away as fast as he could. The crowd around dispersed slightly leaving a few very... excited trainers.

"Sir, would you consider trading your Riolu for my Charizard?" said one man.

"No! Trade for mine!" said another.

"I'm not trading to anyone! Now leave us alone please."

The few people left walked away rather grumpily leaving one man standing in front of me. I was about to ask what the man wanted when I saw his eyes gleam for a second. I stood still and the man changed into a Lucario for a split second. He then changed back to a human.

"Thank you for taking care of my daughter. I can tell that there is already a great bond between you two. I believe I can trust you take care of her."

Upon finishing, the man vanished, leaving me and sage alone. Sage asked me why I had been staring at nothing for a few minutes. She must not have seen the man. I replied that I was lost in thought and that I was proud of her. She smiled at me and we finished walking to our home.
