#46 of D.E1 (story part II)

This is it. The Epilogue for this second part. Short but necessary to clear out certain events. Still, many new questions add up to the already unanswered ones. One thing is for certain; the Evocanis' journey is still far from ending.

D.E1 Part II Epilogue

The white alien was in a rampage. Who could've thought that her mangled body could have such strength left still? Screen panels and chairs flew through the bridge of the Retcan battle cruiser R105. No matter how much she discharged her fury against her surroundings, she wouldn't find relief...

"Calm down, Silver!!" Shadow, the brown furred Retcan yelled at no avail.

Blood shot silvery eyes now glared at the wise Retcan. She ran at him, unable to control her fury. Jumping across command centers, tables and chairs, the fragile white Retcan pounced at her Retcan brother. Not even her broken arm seemed to get in the way of her uncontrolled rage.

"I said no casualties!!" She let out a soul shattering scream.

"Silver!!" Shadow yelled back. There was a scuffle between both. Shadow did what he could to keep Silver from hurting him and herself.

"We killed them!" Silver kept yelling and growling as she snapped her jaws on Shadow. She had lost it completely. Her eyes were wide opened, her pupils contracted, her muzzle drizzled with saliva.

"Stop!" Shadow was probably the oldest Retcan on board, but Retcans kept their youthful appearance and most of their physical strength regardless of the aging. And even if Shadow was somehow crippled, he could show his crew how powerful he still was.

Shadow managed to pin Silver into the floor, gently, but firmly placing his weight on her neck.

"Shadow, you'll hurt her!!" Bo's instinct to help his mother kicked in. The little Retcan jumped at Shadow, but was soon stopped by Cobalt and other Retcans.

"Stop it!! We are not like this!!" The blue furred Retcan yelled. "Let go of her, Shadow!"

"Silver!" Shadow yelled firmly. "You are hurt, and I don't want to be responsible for letting you hurt yourself even more!"

"I killed them, Shadow!" Silver yelled back. This time her tone was softer. Tears flooded her silvery eyes.

Her tone, made Shadow feel an immense empathy for her. He released his grip from her. Silver didn't move anymore; she just cried.

"I killed them..."

Shadow helped Silver sit up and held her in the warmest embrace. "Stop saying that, Silver... You know it isn't true."

"It is..." Silver replied, completely drowned in tears. Silver burrowed her head in Shadow's fur.

"It's not your fault, baby. It's no one's fault." The wise Retcan comforted her. "You are placing responsibilities and burdens that do not correspond you."

Silver said no more words. Her son now walked to her, knelt down and hugged her from behind.

"I should've be vigilant on what the Evos were doing... I killed them again!!" Silver insisted on blaming herself.

"Silver... You just came back from almost being killed inside a machine's ship... You fought face to face with them and you won this war for R105 and Canis Major. You are a true hero, and reassured the place you have as our leader!"

There were no words that could calm Silver down... Not too long after she made it back to R105, she knew about the three Evos that had gone alone into the machine's main fleet. Now she realized that their own fire from Rage of Lusceonis might have killed them. There was no relief for Silver knowing that her own ship could be responsible for killing those Evos.

"The ship is still in one piece, Silver. And Zonda with his crew are almost there." Cobalt tried to find words of hope to ease her Retcan sister's pain.

"Silver..." Bo now spoke. "One of them made it out. We believe it was thanks to the other two. That means that they are alive inside that ship. Evos are strong; let's trust their instinct." Bo gently pressed harder on Silver, somehow giving her comfort. "Until we find any sings that they didn't make it, I will not give up hope..."

There was no response from Silver anymore. Her breathing went back to normal. Her warm body was now relaxed.

"I'm sorry Silver..." Shadow said, as he threw aside an empty syringe. "I love you and you are by all rights and means our Captain. But now the least we need is a leader incapable of guiding her crew. I have faith that those Evos will be rescued alive, but now we have equally important matters to attend to. We need to make a recount of the damages, heal the wounded and rebuild. Starting from now, we need preparations for a future attack as if would happen today. This will not be the last time we face the machines, and we will have to be ready to avoid anything that happened today to ever repeat itself again."

"It is a strong sedative." A Retcan medic said. "But she will be alright."

"Thank you, brother. Take her away and make sure she rests..." Shadow said, now standing up. "As for us; these next days will be difficult and the busiest since we fought for the Evos many years ago. Gather up your strength, brothers, for we must rebuild and get stronger than ever."

It still wasn't time to rest for many in R105 and Canis Major. It was time to rebuild and plan a new strategy against the machines. Retcans and Evocanis would never let this happen again.

The smoke dissipated from Canis Major's hangar. Evocanis had claimed victory once the last Blank Mask fell motionless. Howls of victory deafened the massive hangar as Evocanis and also the Retcans that fought next to them rejoiced after the defeat of their enemies.

Evos licked their wounds, and spread the word throughout Canis Major, announcing their victory. This time, the machines had heavily underestimated the peaceful space mammals. Canis Major's victory would mark a new era for the Evocanis; an era were the fear would not consume their peace and happiness. Even if there was a possibility that machines would strike back harder than that day, Evos knew that they would fight back even harder, claiming once again victory.

"... Oxygen levels are at 0.1%, General... Atmospheric pressure is nearly gone. It's been nearly half an hour now since the conditions were not suitable for supporting life..."

"No, let's keep looking! I'm sure they found a way to survive! I will go into the deepest sector of this ship and rescue my brother Evos alone if it's necessary!"

"General?"

"He's right... and even if he's not, we must find them. I am not going back without those two Evos... Alive or not, they belong in Canis Major; is that clear, crew?"

"General, Zonda..."

"What?"

"It's... their signal. Twenty clicks from our position..."

"Husky, Anubis!!!"

"Wait, Lay!"

"Sir... their signal is in motion..."
