Scrap: Electricity

This is a scrap of imagery that came to mind after I watched a YouTube video of someone speed painting a picture.
Alex stood in the valley, completely ignoring the rain pelting his fur. He planted his feet and focused, arms at his side, feeling the electricity surge to his paws. As the charge built, the air began to taste metallic and discharges could be seen between raindrops. Small spheres of electricity formed in Alex's paws and began to grow, with sparks arcing between his fingers. Shortly, the spheres were the size of grapefruits and still growing. Alex could feel that he was at his limit, so he stopped the growth and held his paws up. The wolf let go, allowing the electricity to arc forth from his palms, striking the grounding rod he had driven into the ground 50 meters away.
