The Veil

December 20, 2055 AD... Never thought I'd live through World War Three and see the end of it. I guess Albert Einstein was right. And I quote "I do not know what the third world war will be fought with. But I'm certain World War Four will be fought with sticks and stones". Or something to that context. Been too long without the internet to just simply look up the quote word for word. I know one thing though. The quote is not far from the truth. Society as we knew it is dead. Jeff thought to himself as he walked east of the Illinoise boarder. After the war, Many kinds of monsters and other creatures came from the otherworld. The veil that separated this world from the otherworld has been lifted. The war took more than 8 billion souls. The veil lifting unleashing creatures good and bad. The bad took the souls of millions more on this earth. America is in complete ruin. Buildings that once seemingly touched the sky was in ruin, piles of debris and ash. Jeff A former solder and WWIII veteran at the age of twenty eight continued to walk keeping an eye out for hostile people. He couldn't blame them. After all they are just trying to survive the aftermath of a disasterous war that made all of the Empires of the modern world collapse in ash. Militaries and civillian. alike died side by side in this chatostrophic war. Most died from starvation. Jeff thought to himself. Jeff came across an old armory. He wondered if there where any kind of weapons laying around. He went inside searching for anything that can be used as a weapon. But he'd preffer a firearm of course. Tactically it won't be his best option sometimes. But if he comes across hostile people who outnumber him or armed with firearms, a gun, even a pistol is better than no gun.

After an hour or so, Jeff found a Baretta M-92. It was an old pistol even had some rust on the slide. He tried to push the magazine release button but the mag didn't drop out freely like it should. It took Jeff some effort to pull the magazine out of the pistol. With a small grunt it finally was out of the pistol. Se was displeased to see the condition of the magazine. It was quite rusty. But with some cleanning it should work ok. He then searched for 9mm NATO handgun ammunition. That was a harder find than the pistol. But after a few hours he was able to find ten rounds. They where slightly coroded, but should fire ok. He only had five more rounds to find for a full magazine worth of ammo. But as he searched for more he had no luck. "Guess fate only wanted me to have ten shots. Fuck me, he must be a Democrat". Jeff laughed at his mental jokes remembering the politics of the country it once was. He let out an audible laugh as he remembered his old joke "choosing democrat or repuican is like choosing elephant dick or donkey dick. One way or another you're fucked". Afterwords, he set out to look for a place to spend the night. Knowing the dangers of this new world Jeff knows all too well the dangers. When the veil lifted, as prophesied in many pagan shaman teachings, myth as it was once known is actually nothing but unproven fact. Many creatures reside in this world. Like all races, there is good and bad in each race. Are they seelie sidhe? or good guys. Or unseelie sidhe? The bad guys. One thing is for sure, Jeff hopes to come across more seelie folks than the unseelie ones.

Near sunset, it was an old abandoned neighborhood Jeff found. The houses where intact. Some damage from lack of maintenance but it is the best within miles, that was a fact Jeff was sure of. Jeff picked the smallest of the houses. He figured the smaller the house, the easier the area sweep for nasties will be. He drew his newly found Baretta 92, and cautiously opened the door. He entered the family room first. He saw old rugged furniture and saw the room was clear. That moment however, Jeff heard a crash of plates hitting the floor on the kitchen. Jeff cautiously went to the kitchen, and had his handgun at the ready as he entered. Two small dragons where in there. One was laying down seemingly sick. The other one who was slightly larger turned around growling at Jeff. Jeff had his pistol with the dragon's forehead allighned with his sights. "What are you doing here, Leave!!! We want no trouble human". Jeff lowered his pistol understanding these creatures where seelie. But they also have no problem with defending themselves. Jeff said, just looking for a place to sleep. The older healthier dragon said there's no room for you here. Oh yes there is, Jeff said. Jeff went to the couch and set his gear there. He pulled an MRE out of his pack, opened it, and began to eat. The older dragon who Jeff spoke to earlier, smelled the food. Of course that was what the dragon was looking for. The dragon entered the livingroom where Jeff was eating. The dragon's efforts of a food search was unsuccessful. And Jeff noriced the dragon was staring at him. Jeff looked back at the dragon and then reached for his backpack. The dragon growled bearing it's teeth at Jeff. Jeff ignored the threatning actions and pulled out another MRE. Then he said "Shut up and get a plate. If killing you and the other dragon who I assume is ill, was my intent, I would have done so already". The dragon went in the kitchen and got The plate. Jeff opened the bag containing the MRE. "It tastes like shit, but it'll prevent you two from starving tonight". He put the food on the plate. The dragon gingerly bit down on the plate carrying it to the sick dragon. Moments latter Jeff fallowed the other dragon with the food into the kitchen. This startled the other dragon and both began growling. "Just hear me out and I'll leave you two alone", Jeff said. "Speak quickly", the overly protective dragon said. A very important question I must ask. Did you make sure the house is clear? No one is in here except you two right"? "No why would I do that!" the dragon responded. Jeff said nothing back. He went back into the living room and grabbed his pistol. He started out with the bedrooms. Carefully opening each door and clearing the rooms as well as the closets. He looked up to the ceiling in the hallway after all rooms where cleared. The ceiling door to the atic. He then opened the drop door and climbed in quietly. Two humanoid reptilians are sleeping in the corner. Quietly Jeff climbed back down. The dragon who has talked to him recently was looking at him curiously. "Go get me a large kitchen knife, and quickly", Jeff whispered. The dragon had a rather frightened look on it turned around doing as Jeff told the dragon to do. Almosf immediately the dragon came back with the knife in its mouth. Jeff grabbed the knife and quietly went back in the attic. As he entered, he came up to the first sleeping reptillian. He slit it's throat, but as it woke from the pain it began to struggle around making gurgling sounds as it homeplessly tried to cling on to life. Finally he stopped squirming. But the noise woke the other reptilian. It made an earpiercing scream as it jumped on Jeff sinking it's claws into his rib cage. Jeff screamed in agony as he was still trying to stab the creature. Finally the reptillian humanoid's head was right in fromt of him. He pulled out the baretta handgun and shot it in the side of the creatures head. The second creature is finally lifeless. Jeff then weakly walked to the attic enterance. He stumbled down the stair way and hit the unforgiving ground. He's a little weakebed by his wounds. The dragon looked at him blankly for a moment. "That's why you always clear a house before you sleep in it, dragon. They'll kill you in your sleep. I call them geeks", Jeff said. The dragon gave him a nod and went to tend to the other dragon.

Jeff fallowed the dragon to see if he can be of any help. Jeff stood back a distance just to observe. He noticed the ill dragon had a nasty cut on its side. Clearly it was infected, more than likely it's the cause of that dragon being ill. Jeff then left the two dragons allone, he went to the bathroom looking for any meds that might help. He founed an unused siringe, needle, and a bottle of penacillin. "Perfect", Jeff said quietly to himself. He went back to the two dragons with the bottle of penecillin, the needle, and the siringe. The other dragon was pretty suspicious. "What is that?" He asked. It's penecillin. This dragon has an infection. It will die without this antibiotic, Jeff said. Ok, but if it kills her, I'll tear you appart", the other dragon replied. If she dies the infection did it, not me. Penacillin is the safest antibiotic that was available. Other medicines however would be potentially dangerous to dragons". Jeff shot back. Jeff gave the ill dragon the shot. Satisfied with what he did, "we'll see if it helps her fight off this infection". Tonight, I'll take first watch for danger. You'll take the second in a few hours. Both dragons went to sleep, Jeff stayed up watching for danger. Hopefully it'll be a quick and uneventfull night for the trio
