Chapter 2 - Dr. Emotions

There is always someone willing to lend their hand to help those in need even though it isn't the best thing to do or rather no the most preferable thing. At first they may refuse but if you truly want to help, then you persist until accepted. It's not an easy thing to do so it isn't a very easy thing to accomplish. It's easier to push than pull.

The bell rang marking the end of first period as Leo came around and yawned as people left the room. He was the last person to leave the building and walked on the cold ground once again as the familiar rough ground returned to his senses. For most people, their feet would be sore if they decided to walk bare foot outside for the day but it was different for Leo since he was doing this for a while now. The soles of both feet have calluses making it virtually impossible for cuts and bruises to appear.

There were more people now as second period was drawing in. Larger clusters of people walked by Leo as he proceeded across campus but no one wanted to be a few feet close due to his fowl mood. There are people who admire him for his emoness or dark thoughts and there are those who strangely love him only because he's cold. Whatever the reason may be, Leo did not interfere but rejected them none the less. To the lovers, it only made them wild on the inside.

Luckily, Leo's classroom wasn't far since it resides in the D buildings. All the buildings were repainted red, white, and blue with either blue doors marking science rooms or tan doors marking regular classrooms. Leo's class is next the blue door that are facing in the same direction. The semi-glass window is obstructed by paper as he opened the door and entered a classroom half full of people. Taking a spot in the back of the room, near the entrance, the bag hit the floor, dropped into the seat, and rested his head on his cold arms on the plastic table that the seat is forever connected to. More people walked through the door and socialized with one another as the bell rang signaling for the beginning of second period. The class was almost full but there are two or three free chairs scattered about the room.

"How was everybody's morning today," spoke a loud and serious voice.

A podium stood in the middle of the classroom, towards the front, that is full of vibrant colors like a bunch of kids painted it using many colors. Leaning on the podium is a beagle that is in his late 20s to early 30s wearing a brown t-shirt, blue jeans, and overly used blue vans.

"It was awesome! I got to see Patrick Mareson!" shouted one of the students enthusiastically.

The room soon exploded with life once again as people gossiped about Patrick Mareson and his up coming role in the move "Erase the Night." Even the beagle gossiped a little before quieting down the class for their lesson plan that lasts until February.

"Quiet down! People quiet down already!" shouted the beagle.

It took up a couple more tries before everyone who was talking to shut up and pay attention up front again.

"Jeez, you people are like animals," said the beagle looking around the room as everyone laughed.

The whole school and city is a one of many places where animals, halves, and humans live together in complete harmony. People accepted the existence of such places but there are still strong oppositions to such things mainly because of race supremacy. Within the classrooms, approximately a third of each class makes up the students in the class. Within the ideology of the Equalisits, there is no such things as inequality in the eyes of God.

"I know how much you guys love o tread the fabulous books and this is language arts but we're doing something different this year. From now to the end of the semester, or maybe until February, our topic is going to be all about love, both sexual and nonsexual," said the beagle.

Everyone, including Leo, was surprised at such a change in the school's curriculum. Leo immediately knew what the first thing they were going to do and didn't like it mainly because it starts everything off when it comes to the:

"Definition! What's the definition of love?" asked the beagle but no one heard him as they all chatted amongst themselves about it. "Why can't you people shut the hell up?!" shouted the beagle.

The talking came to a halt once again before the beagle could continue or even decide to do anything since the sudden halt came as a surprise and totally unexpected.

"Okay...well," stammered the beagle as he tried to regain his thoughts.

"Something wrong?" asked a student in the front row.

"Uh, no. Just wasn't expecting everyone to shut up so soon," said the beagle scratching his head.

"You wanted us to shut up," said an obnoxious voice in the third row.

"True. Well, who wants to define love?"asked the beagle walking up to the white board and picking up a marker.

"Love is an intimate relationship with someone!" shouted a student.

"It's a special bonding between two people!" shouted another.

"Love is when you fuck someone!" shouted a third.

Soon definitions flew out from every direction as the beagle quickly wrote down what he could hear and remember long enough to completely write it down. Some definitions were repeated more than once but in a different order and choice of words until the whole board was full of words.

"Okay, I basically heard from everyone but Leo. What do you think love is, Leo?" asked the beagle.

"Love is nothing be deceit," answered Leo without lifting his head.

"How about a more positive version?" asked the beagle

"It is an empty void that only brings sadness," answered Leo.

"Happier," said the beagle.

"It's an excuse to get someone's money and climb up the social ladder," responded Leo.

The more the beagle wanted a more positive response, the more negative each response became until Leo said, "I hate love." Everyone turned their attention to Leo due to his words. It shocked them to hear such a response but Leo seemed to know the result if he wasn't phased by the sudden attention.

"Leo, see me after class," said the beagle.

Class resumed normally after hat but it was difficult for everyone to digest the idea that someone hated love but can act cool about it. People around Leo asked him about it but didn't get a single response as he buried his face into his arms. This is a good rumor but everyone in the class knew better than to tell other people so they simply pretended not to know about the event or faked forgetting.

The beagle sat at his desk in the far corner of the room and looked at Leo while thinking about plausible reasons why there would be hatred towards Love. Any reason he came up with was absurd and didn't appear logical since he reasoned using monsters. People talked away the time as Leo stared off into space wondering how much longer with will last. The bell rang and everyone left Leo who strapped on his bag and walked to the beagle's desk.

"You wanted to see me?" asked Leo.

"yes, do you truly despise love?" asked the beagle.

Leo turned his head away and didn't respond as the beagle waited for an answer. Seeing how no answer was coming from Leo, the beagle thought up of another question.

'Why don't you like love? Is it a personal thing?" asked the beagle.

Leo didn't answer this question either as he looked at the floor that connects to the wall.

"Is it because of family?" asked the beagle.

No answer or even words left Leo's mouth as the beagle though of what to do next. He looked at Leo's facial expression and saw the frown in his mouth and the sadness in his eyes or rather the pain anyways.

"Are you okay?" asked the beagle.

"I'm fine," responded Leo.

"Then why the long face? It's not what I'm used to seeing from you at all," said the beagle.

"I'm not sad. I'm perfectly fine," said Leo still looking at the floor.

"I'm not stupid so I know the difference between perfectly fine and sad. You, sir, are sad," said the beagle.

"How would you know? You're just an English teacher," said Leo.

"I was once a teen so I'm not that old," answered the beagle.

"Sure, you and flying pigs," said Leo under his breath.

"I'm trying to be serious here. Why can't you just tell me what's wrong?" asked the beagle.

Leo's face tensed as the presence of hostility rose out of the depths of the sad and painful eyes. He turned his head towards the beagle slowly making it clear that that was definitely not a safe question to ask. The once calm air between the two filled with anger as Leo opened his mouth respond.

"You want to know what's wrong? Do you really want to know what's wrong?" asked Leo in a steady voice that didn't show any sign of relaxing the tense face or appeasing the anger and hostile air.

The beagle thought about this for a moment before slowly nodding his dead. He even took a gulp just to try to swallow down the fear that is lodged in his throat.

"Well I'll tell you what the hell is wrong!" shouted Leo slamming both his hands on the table in fists making the beagle jump as the loud slam echoed in his sensitive ears.

The beagle withed he never brought up the idea of love as he looked in Leo's hard eyes. The tense face is emotionless making it impossible for anyone to tell what Leo was thinking. Just shaking in his chair, the beagle had no choice but to endure the torment of being afraid beyond his wits even though he is an adult.

"Whats wrong is all of you fucking people can't help but worry about my fucking well being just because I'm not my usual happy self. Every single goddamn time you fucking idiots just don't know when to leave people alone and when not to. You just have to make it your goddamn business to make the problematic feel better. I just can't take it anymore! Why can't you fucking dumb asses just leave me alone and move on with your shitty lives?! It would make me feel a whole lot better!" fumed Leo without breaking a single sweat.

The beagle on the other hand is having difficulty breathing during the explanation as he tries to remain calm and overcome his sudden fear. Leo continued to stare at the beagle as the bell marking the beginning of third period class rang. Luckily, the beagle didn't have a third period class so he can use that time to get a grasp on what just happened. The hostile air around them lingered for a couple more seconds before dispersing along with the anger. Leo's face relaxed as he stood up straight again and regained his composure before walking towards the door. Just as Leo was opening the door, the beagle stood up still shaking as he placed his left hand on the table to keep his balance.

"What the hell just happened?" thought the beagle.

"Good day, Mr. Elisor," said Leo walking through the threshold and closing the door quietly behind him.

"Did he just vent on me?" whispered Mr. Elisor.

Sitting back down in his chair he stared at the door a little while longer before deciding that he should get ready for his fourth period class. Standing up and moving to his white board, he looked at all the definitions quickly before muttering to himself about the teachers nearby, if they heard, wanting to know what all that shouting was about.

As Leo was walking to his next class, which is P.E., he was digging through his bag for the pen he stuffed in that morning. A crumpled ball caught his attention and he pulled it out to investigate what it was. Unraveling the ball was no problem as he examined the contents of the page.

"A mystery to ponder upon as I think about humanities faults. There are so many that it is simply confusing but I fit somewhere amongst the others like a collection. A maze of life with two exits containing infinitive paths to take and dead ends to meet. Some where in there is the answer I seek. Who am I?"
