#1 of Changes from War

A man sat in a dark room with a small monitor in front of him. This man was a soldier but he was a special kind of soldier. He was a mercenary, someone who did almost any job if the money was right. As the video began the mercenary stared at the screen with a look of anticipation for his next hob and check.

War, it is something people are very familiar with, for centuries man has fought against man. At first it was tribes against tribes fighting for land or honor. Later priests and holy figures justified it as a holy war that you would fight against heathens and sinners not men. After this wars on economic stature were fought across the world with no hope of ending. Finally peace was attained after these wars or so the populace thought, how can a race that only knows war truly have peace.

After these wars humanity is no longer the frail peachy, hairless race that they once were. Years of genetic research has allowed the people to change there appearance at the genetic level. Most people used these to change the aspect they did not like about themselves. Some people however used these procedures to alter there appearance with traits from some animals. These alterations ranged in appearance from just some ears and a tail to being altered into a complete hybrid between human and animal. These procedures were uncommon and usually only done by a doctor who has undergone the procedure themselves. Unfortunately for these new being, humans did not look kindly at those who have gone through this procedure.

Now fast forward a decade and we find ourselves at the beginning of a new war but this one is between humans and hybrids. People always say history repeats itself; well it did when the Americans began to place its hybrids into separation domes. These domes were constructed in the most remote place in the country that could be found. At first they were allowed to move in freely, the ones who did this were tired of all the torment that the humans around them gave them. However soon the government began to forcibly move them in and it became overcrowded.

History books will tell what happened from the point of view of the victor in a war. The human history books will tell you that it was the hybrids that struck first. Those who were able to sneak out of the domes would say otherwise, they would tell you how they saw the plane approach and leave as if nothing happened. They had to watch as the bomb dropped into the center of the domes, how the ground shook as the fireball consumed all that they had loved. All that was left was a smoldering crater in the ground were hybrids ranging in age had lived from children to the elderly. That was the start of the latest war that humanity is fighting however in this war it is not just fought with foot soldiers but with war machines that stood over a thousand meters tall.

As the screen went dark the figure rose from his chair and walked out a door behind him while putting on a special pair of goggles. The hallway he was in was to dark for him to see in but it was lit just enough for hybrids to walk safely without seeing that he was human. His goggles were a pair of night vision goggles that allowed him to seen in the dark by amplifying the light that was present enough so that he could see. Everybody that passed him were hybrids of all species only one other human was seen walking the halls and he was dressed in a lab coat.

As he turned down a hallway to his left he noticed a female reptile walking down the hallway towards him. He could not tell what her scale color was due to the fact that the only colors the night vision goggles only saw in different shades of green. When she passed him she turned her head as if she saw him but he quickly shoved that thought to the side as he continued down the hall. Turning to a door on his right he pressed a button on the doors right and it slid open with a loud hiss. When the door was closed behind him the lights turned on causing the goggles on his face to blind him. Quickly he removed the goggles so that he could see; his vision was blurred for a moment before he could focus and see the table and three chairs. A door on the other side of the room opened up and a male wolf hybrid and a female cat walked into the room.

As the wolf sat down the feline approached the human and handed him two separate folders before taking a seat next to the wolf and motioning for the man to sit down. When the human took his seat the feline took the small amount of time to examine him from head to toe. The man was about six foot tall and wore a pair of black boots with a pair of baggy blue jeans. On his torso he wore a white shirt that had a picture of a black dragon with the words legendary written in red marker below that. Over his white shirt hear wore a black leather jacket that matched the black fingerless gloves he had on his hands. The hair on his head was rather short and was gelled back. However his hair was rather odd color, it was purple that blended into a golden color near the ends. His face showed little emotion but what caught the feline off guard was that his eyes were an unnatural color of grey.

They all sat in silence for what seemed like hours but actually just mere minutes. The first one to speak was the feline.

"As you have likely guessed we have a couple of missions we would like you to do, however the reason that you have been called here is because our troops will be accompanying a couple of supply transports and believe they might need some extra protection." The human glanced over at the wolf and noticed that the wolf seemed to be getting rather annoyed. "The first mission you will accompany a food transport through the bad lands to a village near the boarder. If you we are given a good review by our soldiers we will call you in for the second mission, do you have any questions?"

"Yeah, I have one question, why are the halls so dark I have to use a pair of night vision goggles?"

She looked at him for a moment because she was expecting a question on the missions not a question about there base of operations. "Well Mr. Donald some of the hybrids in this base are not as friendly to humans as me and my partner here." Donald gave a slight look of astonishment. "Now do you have any questions pertaining to your first mission?" As she said this the wolf got up and walked out the door with a look of disgust on his muzzle. When Donald left the feline walked back through the door she entered through to find her partner leaning against the wall.

"Isabella do you think we can trust him?"

She looked over at her partner and sighed "I do not know Francis; I do not know all I know is that we were able to trust his father before he disappeared."

Donald walked down the halls excited about his new job, just wondering what this job would surprise him with. As he walked down the halls he noticed the same female reptile exiting a door holding something in her left hand. Again she seemed to notice him as she walked down the hall towards him. She seemed to have a smile on her muzzle as she drew closer and closer to him.

The moment the passed each other sharp pain ran up the left side of Donald's upper thigh. He looked down to see a small cut in the side of his pants with a small amount of blood surrounding the wound. Ignoring the wound he left the base heading for his home on the dead coast the one place neither race wanted to claim.
