Chapter 8

*Sir, if I may, why this kid? Why not the whole group?* another thought asks, from Liz.
*Because he's special. He thinks, he remembers, he learns from his environment* Hades answers, closing the thought link.
Meanwhile, raikes is looking for delta, when she sees him come back from the hangar, and rushes at him.
"I was worried about you" she says, in a low voice.
"were you? I was only seeing what else was around here" Delta replies, holding Raikes's hand.
Raikes blushes at the contact, and Delta smiles.
"Will you go out with me?" he asks, slightly kneeling.
"Of course I will" Raikes says, and Delta kisses her.
Peeta sees this, and realises that the signs were right in front of him after that first night they vanished. Hades notices the end of the kiss, and frowns, realising that everything has a flaw. With animals and humans, it's the emotional heart. He starts thinking of a way to recruit them both, when a slight buzz irritates his ear.
*sir, there are troops heading to your location. Time of arrival is 5 minutes. Liz out* hades hears in the back of his mind.
"everyone, get everything you can carry to the chopper, and get in the APC that we have unloaded" hades commands, setting aside the plans for now.
As everyone is getting into the APC, hades takes the wheel, and turns it on. Peeta tries to get everyone in, but the seats fill up quickly, leaving delta and raikes outside, waiting for a seat.
"theres two seats up here. Get in, quickly" hades calls.
They run to the side door, and jump into the front.
Peeta calls out to hades, and the car jumps forward, out the hangar doors, and into a place, not inside the arena.
"when you get older kid, youll learn how to make a portal with fire" hades says, smiling at the view around him.
"where are we?" peeta asks.
"a place you call hell. I call it home" hades answers.
At the sound of the horn, a door opens up, with a triangle on it, and hades drives inside.
"This is our part of the industry. We are special operations. We got the call to help you guys, when the scan of the president, showed up as one of our biggest enemies." Hades explains, even if no one listens.
"Wait, you scan the president?" Peeta asks.
"yeah, when first elected, and after the games were re-instated. It was the second scan that got our attention" hades replies, looking around for something.
"why are we here?" peeta asks.
"safest place on earth, below it, and above. And also, because I want you guys to see some of our toys" hades answers, spotting the garage.
"toys? In these place?" Marrissa asks.
"not the kind your thinking of" hades explains, hitting the lights on the car. "these toys" as the lights reveal a fleet of choppers, armed cars, tanks, and weapon suits.
"well, you certainly know how to impress a girl" raikes comments.
"can I try that suit on the left?" delta asks, hearing the comment raikes made.
"sure, just wait until I remove the weapons. You can train with them in the battle room, with non-lethal projectiles" hades says, grinning at the boys interest in the same suit he uses.
"what kind of weapons are on it?" delta asks, curious of what hades meant.
"mainly rockets, mini-gun, and a 50 cal. Rifle if I need it." Hades answers, opening the door of the APC.
"that's it?" delta asks, getting out as well.
"not everything is about how many weapons you use, its how you use them. Your sword for example, you usually use two, but you use one more often" hades explains, releasing the locks on the mini-gun.
Peeta climbs out of the car, and sees the armoury. Tamerus sees the double edge battle axe, and smiles.
"they got the best shit right here" tamerus comments to peeta.
"yeah, but is it safe here, even from each other?" peeta asks.
"we best hope so. For our sake." Tamerus replies, testing the weight of the axe.
Delta is sitting in the seat of the suit, when hades closes the hatch.
"ok, try the arms" hades instructs.
Delta moves his hand, but the machine doesn't respond.
"nothing. You sure its turned on?" delta asks
"yeah, it turns on when theres a weight in the seat" hades answers, checking everything again.
"maybe im in the wrong side" delta says, checking for controls.
Hades jumps up to the main viewport and looks in.
"you need those arm braces on. They arent for show" hades
Delta puts them on, and hits the "on" button on the braces, and the arms respond, giving a "one two" punch then stops.
"awesome. This could really damage buildings" delta comments thinking of Lady Serena's office.
Raikes looks at the tanks, thinking of what kind they are, when liz comes up to her, and waits.
"I haven't seen tanks like these at all. What are they made of?" raikes asks liz.
"that's a secret, but its also used to make our bio-reactive armour" liz says, but then leans in to whisper "living things."
Raikes pulls back, and stares at her. "Bodily things? How can living bodies be made into a tank?" she demands.
"the same way life began. We just changed a few things to suit our needs. We also went back in time to get the elements we needed to do it" Liz explains.
Meanwhile, Delta is walking around a tank, trying to create a smooth pattern of movement.
Sera walks timidly around the weapons, takes a nervous glance and begins to cry.
"That time of the month again? I get that a lot" cracks Hades, with a smile. "Some people don't like the blood"
