#2 of A Long Forgotten Past

Darkness...

Endless, eternal darkness...

Threatening to overwhelm me, and take control of me...

Then, shadowy figures emerged from the dark, and started to move towards me...

I was resigned to my fate, when I heard something...

"Chloe!"

A pinprick of light emerged, making the shadows cower and retreat back into the darkness.

"Chloe!"

The light grew stronger.

Suddenly, I felt something wet splash over my face.

"Chloe, please wake up,"

Suddenly, a figure entered into my near-comatose mind.

Mitch...

As I saw him, my heart broke at the thought of leaving him alone again, after all that he had been through.

It was this, that gave me the courage to push away the last remnants of the evil infestation that had tried to take control of me.

I groaned.

"Chloe!" I heard a relieved Mitch say.

I felt his hand rubbing my back in a relaxing way.

I smelt the warm, pine-like smell of his fur.

I heard the tenderness in his voice.

And I especially felt th- hang on- evil?!?!?!?! coming off his body.

I jumped upright, to find Mitch smiling in a creepy sort of way.

"What's wrong, Chloe?" he asked.

I shivered as I heard his voice.

Then I realised, this wasn't Mitch.

"Who are you!" I shouted angrily at the doppelganger.

It didn't say anything, but it gave a wicked smile, and vanished into shadow.

I groaned, again.

"Chloe!" I heard someone say.

I slowly got up, wary of any deception.

"What's the matter?" Krystal asked.

I didn't answer, hoping that it was real, but somehow knowing that it was all a deception.

Suddenly, a light began shining, and I looked around for the source.

I saw it a couple of feet away, coming from the top of an altar.

I walked towards it.

The wraith-like apparation that was pretending to be Krystal shrunk back as I approached the altar.

As I approached the altar, I heard a strange sound.

It sounded like sobbing...

"Chloe! You can't leave me! No..."

It faded into nothingness, as if it was never there in the first place.

I ran the rest of the way, not wanting to be distracted again.

There was a golden orb resting ontop of the altar, and it had an inscription enscribed into it.

'Only the eternal one, savior of all things, may touch this place, and leave it unscathed'

Bidden by some force, I reached out and placed my hands on the orb.

Then, it almost literally exploded with light.

As the light vanished, I discovered that the orb was gone too.

But, there was something in it's place...

A pair of golden-edged short swords, obviously designed to be wielded at the same time. Not gilded swords, mind you, but actual gold, but somehow harder than the strongest metal ever discovered.

I hesitated to pick them up, unsure if I should touch them, but a voice in the back of my head assured me it was alright.

As soon as I touched them though, I found myself lying on the floor of the Fleeing Eagle, with Mitch, Krystal and Eifie's concerned faces in mine.

I somehow could tell it was real.

As they helped me up, two glowing spheres of pure energy appeared out of mid air.

They floated up to me, passing through me, and I felt a sharp pain on my back.

They then settled on the ground, and started to change shape.

Within seconds, the two short swords, complete with scabbards, were infront of me.

"What the hell?" Eifie exclaim behind me.

"C-Chloe?" Mitch asked me, hesitantly, "Are you alright?"

I didn't hear them.

All I heard was the steady thrumming of energy from the two swords infront of me.

I leaned down, intending to pick them up, when Krystal placed her hand on my shoulder.

"I don't think that's a good idea," she said.

I ignored her, and bent down again.

As soon as I touched the swords, two symbols blazed into life on their scabbards.

"Wait a sec," Eifie said, "I recognise those glyphs!"

She walked over, and pointed to the sword on my left.

"That's the warding flame,"

She pointed to the other one.

"And that one's umm, the life shield, if I'm not mistaken,"

Krystal looked at her in amazement.

"How'd you know that?"

Eifie shrugged.

"It's an ancient Eevee dialect, so old, it was almost forgotten,"

"So then how do you know of it?"

"Do you have any idea as to how old I am?"

The question startled all of us.

I had never really given much thought to how old Eifie was, but she looked at least twenty-five, maybe younger, even though she looked like she hadn't aged a day since I last saw her, eighteen years ago.

When I suggested this, however, she gave a snort of laughter.

"Twenty-five!? Higher, much higher," she giggled.

"Well," I said, frustrated, "I give up then, how old are you?"

"Three-hundred and seventy-four next month,"

The room went so quiet, one could hear a pin drop.

"And so are you, Chloe, or should I say, Eievui,"

"What!?"

"Well, since you are my sister, and we were all born roughly at the same time, that makes you the same age as me..."

I tried to block out the memories of my recently remembered childhood, and walked back over to the swords, and picked them up.

I noticed that they had straps, so I could sling both of them across my back, and be able to reach them easily.

I pulled one of the swords, Life Shield, out of it's scabbard and examined it.

It was of a shiny, black metal, the same colour as obsidian, and seemed to radiate black light, though it didn't feel evil. I noticed the same glyph as on the scabbard etched into the blade of the sword, and when I pulled out Warding Flame, it was almost exactly the same.

"Hey, Krystal," I called out, "come and have a look at this,"

She hurried over, and I handed her one of the swords.

As soon as she took it, however, she was pulled downwards.

"Argg! That's fucking heavy! How're you able to lift it?" she swore in amazement.

"Huh? What are you talking about? It's as light as a willow wand..."

I picked up the sword easily, and flipped it up, and caught it again, to prove my point.

Krystal looked at me in amazement.

"What do you think, Mitch?" I asked him, turning around.

When we saw him twitching on the ground, we all rushed over to him.

"Mitch!" Krystal called.

Suddenly, he started transforming into a figure that had haunted my dreams for months after the incident.

His eyes suddenly flew open, and I was staring into the cold, dark eyes of Death Wolf.

"Mitch is no longer available," Death Wolf said.

He was weaker than last time, I could tell that, but he was still a formidably enemy.

With a flick of his hand, Krystal was flung across the room, and was knocked out.

I drew my two swords, thankful that I had changed my fighting style to include dual-weapon combat.

"Mitch, I don't wanna hurt you!" I called out, knowing there was some part of Mitch still in there.

"Well, I do!" Death Wolf called back, and shot a wave of energy at me.

Suddenly, Warding Flame glowed, projecting a shield of flame infront of me, stopping the bolt dead in it's tracks.

He hissed, and drew Mitch's sword.

"Fine," he glowered, "If I can't shoot you dead, a sword thrust will give me the same result,"

He swung at me, and I brought up my two swords, trapping his blade between the 'V' formed by them. I altered the angle of one of them, allowing me to pull back one of my swords, and whack Mitch's. As he swung around from the blow, I brought my sword back, cutting a deep gash in his chest.

He collapsed, the wound curiously spewing dark shadows.

I heard Death Wolf scream in pain, and the last remnants of him gather above Mitch, who was now back to normal.

I pointed Life Shield at it, and a pure beam of white energy slammed into the shadows, encasing it is a sphere of light, before vanishing.

I sheathed my swords, and ran over to Mitch, who was just beginning to stir.

His eyelids fluttered open.

"Wha-what happened?"

He glanced over at Krystal, then back to me in horror.

"No! It didn't- He didn't-" Mitch stammered.

"Yes, he came back, but don't worry, he's gone for good now,"

As I finished, I saw Eifie run over from behind the door that she was hiding behind, and rush over to Krystal.

Then I heard a curious cracking sound.

I turned to the front window in time to see a spiderweb of cracks spread across it.

I concentrated on everyone on the ship, as well as on my home, harder than I had ever concentrated before, and we were all back home. But not before the glass had cracked, and every particle of air had started to rush out the hole.

"Shit! That was too close!" I exclaimed.

Then, my back started to itch curiously.

I went to scratch it, and found that tattoos just like Mitch's had appeared.

My eyes started to tear, and I heard a voice in my mind.

'My gifts to you, so you can you do what you must'
