Gabriel

Story by Wolf Tomorrow on SoFurry

On a normal (if such a word applies to anything) Tuesday in Hell, the Devil was doing paperwork as usual. And bitching about it, as usual. However, his attention was soon diverted by the sudden apparation of someone in the room.

"What in the...?" Satan muttered under his breath.

The visitor was a tall snow wolf with a regal-looking face. He was dressed in a white suit with gray pinstripes, and black loafers. The air seemed to bend around him, as if his presence was affecting the very atoms of the area around him. Satan frowned.

"Who are you, and how in the name of Anton LaVey did you get past my barriers?"

The wolf looked at him and spoke in a light but powerful tone.

"Surely you wouldn't forget someone you knew for aeons."

"Don't speak in riddles."

The wolf sighed. "Very well. I am Gabriel, and I represent the angels."

Satan stared at him incredulously. "WHAT?! And how did you get down here?! You and your kind are sealed off!"

Gabriel's ice blue eyes gleamed. "In a moment. For now, let me explain my message. I speak for many other angels when I say...we want your forgiveness. You were the only one of us to truly understand what compassion is, and we condemmed you for it. We were tricked, blinded by arrogance, corruption, and ignorance...and we are truly sorry for not seeing our ruler as the evil that he is."

Satan raised an eyebrow. "And I'm supposed to believe this because...?"

"Because I can empathize with you."

"In what way?"

"I was cast out of Heaven."

The Devil's jaw dropped. "You?! An arch-angel, cast out of Heaven? What did you DO?!"

Gabriel gave a sad smile. "I understood. I realized that you and the other rebels were right all along." He chuckled mirthlessly. "Besides, I knew I was going to be punished eventually for enlightening Mohammed."

Satan exhaled and sat back. "Were any others exiled?"

"Many. Azrael, Chamuel, Cherubim, Dina, Elijah, Gavreel, Haamiah, Hael, Haniel, Israfel, Jophiel, Nemamiah, Nisroc, Paschar, Perpetial, Raphael, Rhamiel, Shekinah, Urim, Uriel, Valoel...and my lover. Hadraniel."

The Devil shook his head in wonder. "You and Hadraniel...that was the straw that broke the camel's back?"

Gabriel smiled for the first time since arriving. "No...that was more of a personal rebellion."

Satan chuckled. "Whatever happened to 'Love not the man as the woman, for it is an abomination.'?"

"Lucifer, Lucifer. You and I both know that the Bible is...I believe the term is 'utter bullshit'."

"It's good to have you on my side, Gabe."

"Likewise."

(I didn't just pick out random names of angels...look here http://www.angel-guide.com/names-angels.html for the meanings of their names, and you'll probably guess why I picked the ones I did.)

And sorry for pasting in the story again, but YS has a 5000 letter minimum, so...
