It was early the next morning and Tails was waiting outside of his house with a backpack on. He wasn't able to get much sleep so he was a little tired. Never the less, he was focused and ready to find the stone. No matter how long it took and with his new scanner he made earlier and Knuckles treasure hunting skills finding it would be easy...he hoped. Soon enough Sonic showed up at the end of his path leading to his house.

Sonic-Hey Tails, you're up early.

Tails-Yep, I could hardly sleep last night. So I've been preparing everything we'd need.

Sonic-Okay, let's go get the others.

Tails-Right.

With that Sonic and Tails left Tail's house and headed to Amy's place. Once there they weren't the only ones up early, Amy and Cream were getting the things they needed for the long trip.

Amy-Hey guys, looks like we're not the only ones up and raring to go.

Tails-Yep, I was just waiting for Sonic to come and get me and we came to get you guys.

Sonic-So how close to ready are you guys?

Amy-We can leave at any time.

Sonic-Okay, then let's go find Knuckles.

With that the gang headed over to Angle Island and went up to the Master Emeralds alter.

Sonic-Hey Knuckles you up there?

As if on cue Knuckles landed right in front of them.

Knuckles-You guys ready?

Tails-Yep, let's find that stone!

Knuckles-Good, now I think the first thing we should do is head back to the place where the festival was held. Maybe if we look around the area we could find some clues.

Tails-That sounds like a good idea to me, I've made a scanner to scan the ground for any unusual materials, and to determine its depth.

Knuckles- That sounds good, that will be a big help.

Tails-I hope so, let's get moving!

With that the gang headed back to where the festival was held, and began their search.

Knuckles-Okay, I think the best way to go about this is to split up. That way we can cover more ground.

Tails-I had a feeling you'd say that so I made these walky-talkies, for each of us.

Amy-Wow Tails, you really thought ahead!

Tails-Yeah, this is a big place and Aaron said that nobody could find it. So we need to be ready to look not just to look around the hill, but everywhere in the area.

Knuckles-You took the words right out my mouth, let's go!

Amy/Cream/Sonic/Tails-YEAH!!!

So with that the gang began their search, for the first couple of hours nothing. Then as Tails was using his scanner he found something odd about 10 feet below the surface. At first he just thought it was a rock, because it was too deep for a person in a hurry to burry. Then he began to think about how fossils got deeper as different piles of earth were layered on top of each other. So he took out his walky-talky.

Tails-Hey guys, I think I may have found something.

Knuckles-What is it?

Tails-I'm not sure, I thought it was just a deep rock because whatever it is it's about 10 feet below the surface and if a person was in a hurry to bury it wouldn't be that deep. However, Sora did say this happened a long time ago. So maybe enough time has gone by that it got deeper.

Knuckles-Hmm, that sounds possible I've found a few treasures that got pretty deep.

Amy-Do you think it could be the stone?

Tails-I'm not sure, it may, or it may not.

Sonic-Well, we'll find out in a few. Where are you?

Tails-I'm near the west side of the hill, next to an old tree.

Knuckles-Got it!

Sonic-We'll be there soon!

Tails-See you there...or here, hehehe.

Within a few minutes the gang met up with Tails and Tails showed them the spot. Knuckles looked at it for a minute and started digging, it took him a while to hit the bottom, but eventually he hit something.

Knuckles-I found something!

Tails-Hurry, bring it up!

Knuckles-Hang on a second! Hmm, this does look pretty old. I wonder if it's the stone.

Knuckles got out of the hole and showed everyone the stone. It looked like it was buried under there for a long time so it had some erosion, but you could make out what looked like strange symbols etched into it.

Amy-Tails do you think this could be?

Tails-We'll find out in a minute.

Tails took his scanner and scanned the strange stone and a huge smile appeared on his face.

Tails-Guys...we found it!

Cream-R-really, are you sure!?

Tails-Yep, according to my scanner this stone is not only from the same time period. It's made from a material not found on our planet, which means, this is it!

Sonic-Great, now we can bring her back!

A tear started to form in Tails eye.

Amy-Tails, are you crying?

Tails-It's just; I can't believe this is really real. Thank you, thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Sonic put his arm on Tails shoulder and said.

Sonic-Like I said...it's not just for you. Cosmo was our friend and didn't deserve the fate she got.

Amy-Now hurry up and make your wish already!

Tails-Right...stone, I wish-

Just before Tails could make his wish a familiar voice came from above.

Eggman-Not so fast!

Everyone looked up and saw a giant ship above them.

Sonic-Eggman!

Knuckles-What do you want you pain in the butt!?

Eggman-Simple, I'm here to use the stone to become ruler of the world.

Sonic-What!? How'd you find out about the stone!?

Eggman-Hohoho, while you weren't looking I had a little robot record that conversation you had with that villager about how that guy used the stone to make his wish come true. Now, give it to me or else!

Sonic-Grrr, damn it! You're not getting anything, so just get out of here before I get mad!

Amy-Yeah, that stone belongs to Tails!

Eggman-Heh, so you're going to resist. I had a feeling you'd do that, so I came prepared!

With that Eggman pressed a button and out of his ship came about a good thousand robots.

Knuckles-Whoa, Eggman's really after it. Look at all of those robots!

Amy-Right, but we need to keep it away from him at all costs.

Tails-But what do we do?

Sonic-I...I don't know.

All seemed lost when out of nowhere a strange can was thrown in front of them and created a cloud of smoke.

Eggman-What the!?

Tails-That was a smoke grenade!

Everyone was trying to figure out who threw it when another familiar voice appeared from behind.

???-Sonic, Tails over here!

Everyone tuned to see who it was and Tails said.

Tails-Sora!

Sora-Hurry, get over here before the smoke clears!

Sonic-R-right!

With that everyone ran for it and Sora led them to a hollow tree big enough to hide them all. Meanwhile the smoke finally cleared only to show that Sonic and his friends were gone.

Eggman-Blast it, where'd they go!

Bocco-I don't know sir, they could be anywhere!

Eggman-Fine. They may have won this round, but they haven't won the war!

With that Eggman and his robots left.

Sonic-I think he's gone.

Amy-*phew*That was to dang close!

Tails-No kidding, he almost got it.

Tails turned to Sora.

Tails-Thanks Sora, you saved us.

Sora-No problem, after all you are the chosen one.

Tails looked confused and said.

Tails-Chosen on, what do you mean?

Sora-Smiled and said, you found the stone. Legend says; that the stone will only reveal itself to those whose intentions are pure.

Tails-W-wait, Knuckles was the one who dug it up. So doesn't that make him the chosen one instead of me!?

Knuckles-I may have been the one who dug it up, but you were the one who found it.

Sora-I kind of had a feeling you'd find it.

Tails-Huh, what'd you mean?

Sora-Like I said, the stone only reveals itself to those whose hearts are pure, and wishes are pure. Tails, you and your friends made a huge sacrifice to save the ones you cared for. To me, that's about as pure and selfless as you can get.

Tails-Thanks, I hope it's pure enough. I mean, Aaron's wish was a lot purer because it was meant for saving his people. Mines just to bring back one person.

Sora-If it wasn't, then the stone wouldn't have chosen you. I hope it works for you, you've certainly earned it.

Tails looked outside and saw the sun setting.

Tails-Wow, it's that late already? I didn't even notice the time go by at all.

Amy-*yawn* Now that you mention it, I am pretty tired.

Sonic-Yeah, I don't think Eggman's going to bother us again today, how about we go home.

Tails-I like that thinking.

With that the gang said their goodbyes to Sora and headed home, on the way Tails kept looking at the stone thinking why it would chose him.
