#13 of Main Storyline - Children of Gaia - The Beginning...

The trio of heroes; Soulfox, Deadeye, and Geist, left the cathedral in a relative haste. The sky was cloudy, a remnant of the rain that hit the state of Georgia in recent weeks. It was November, one of the rainiest months in the state after all. Soulfox especially wanted to leave and was well ahead of Deadeye and Geits. This gave a chance for Deadeye to softly whisper to Geist without the arctic fox listening in.

"About today," The fox whispered. "If I hear it come back to me about my crying, I will hurt you rabbit"

"I wasn't planning on telling anyone." The rabbit simply looked over to Deadeye and was replied in the same hushed tone. "I cried the first night I came to the Moreau estate too. I was in just a bad a situation as you."

"You were raped every night?"

"No... worse." the rabbit replied. "I was locked away in Genecorp R&D department, I was experimented on. My pain wasn't nightly, mine was ever constant."

The fox's ears drooped, but that was the only show of emotion he could muster. "I'm sorry."

"It's nothing you can be sorry about. You weren't working for Genecorp at the time."

"We all have our sad stories..." Soulfox replied suddenly as he suddenly stopped. "Just because I'm so far ahead doesn't mean I can't hear the two of you. We are hybrids after all."

Deadeye said nothing, he passed by Soulfox, brushing shoulders with him defiantly, as he headed to the 2008 Hyundai Elentra's front passenger seat and slammed the door. Soulfox sighed a bit and shook his head. "Guess he's not a very sociable person."

"We all had our problems," the rabbit said. "We all deal with our problems in different ways. His was especially tragic. He has no past, no future. He just lives in the moment, and he abhors it..."

Ian cocked his head to the side as he looked at the rabbit. "Are you a psychic all of a sudden?"

"No, but I can read enough body language to know what a person is thinking. He puts up that tough guy appearance to hide his insecurities."

"Perhaps," the arctic fox replies. "Or perhaps he's simply a jackass who thinks no one is dealing with anything similar to what he deals with."

Eventually the three finally made it onto the forested road that would lead them back to the mansion. Deadeye leaned against the door, simply staring out the window as the trees flew by. Soulfox gave an annoyed glance every so often as if to make sure he was there. Geist sat in the back, eyes closed in meditative though as Soulfox flew down the road at a steady 45 mph. The were driving on a particularly part of the road, with a sudden drop to their left, and a treeline that hides the incline to their right.

"Is anyone going to say anything?" Soulfox finally chimed in after a while.

"There's nothing to say," Deadeye replied. "Geist and I wanted to visit the church, you volunteered to take us."

"I only volunteered because I'm the only naturalized citizen with a driver's licence here." he snapped back.

"Good for you..."

"Listen, Deadeye. If you're going to be a part of this team, you're going to have to be a little cooperative with everyone."

"I didn't join the group to make friends, I'm only here to make sure that what happened to each of us doesn't happen to anyone else. We're not friends Soulfox, we are teammates and nothing more."

Soulfox gave an aggravated sigh and shook his head at the fellow fox's words. He would have fired back if it wasn't for a giant armored car coming off an intersecting road with a stop sign. The truck obviously ignored the sign and nearly sideswiped the vehicle. "SHIT!" screamed soulfox he slammed on the brake so that they wouldn't get hit. He was about to slam on the horn to the car when he suddenly stopped, staring off at the truck. The label on the back door of the truck was "GENECORP."

"Someone's inside that vehicle..." he said suddenly.

Geist's eyes opened up suddenly and saw the truck just before it disappeared around the bend. "You mean other than a driver and a passenger?"

"Yes," Soulfox replied, "I can sense her mind and thoughts. they're a hybrid like us!"

"Go after them," Deadeye finally chimed in. Soulfox looked at him with confusion as the red fox opened up the glove compartment.

"What about..."

"Nevermind, I'll take full responsibility if we get in trouble for this."

"Why?" Geist asked as he leaned in between the two foxes in the front.

"I made a vow when I was being abused in the circus. If I can help it, I'm not going to let another one of my kind suffer like I did ever again." Without further hesitation, Deadeye reached into the glove compartment and pulled out the Sig Sauer given to him by Professor Prozac earlier in the week and a clip. As he slammed the clip into the handle of the gun and cocked the slide, his eyes narrowed in anger to the point of near hatred. "Never again..."

Soulfox needed no further motivation than that. He suddenly slammed his foot onto the gas and peeled out towards the black Genecorp vehicle. It didn't take long for them to finally catch up as the driver's were apparently not expecting to be followed like this. Deadeye quickly pressed the button to roll down his window and took his seat belt off.

"What the hell are you doing?!" screamed Soulfox as he looked over to Deadeye.

"I'm climbing onto the roof, gonna take out the drivers from there."

"No," replied Geist, "That could be too dangerous, for you and everyone inside. especially in these woods."

"You got a better plan Geist?" Deadeye inquired.

"As a matter of fact, I do." Geist slowly closed his eyes and suddenly opened them, revealing his once blue eyes suddenly turned milky white with no iris or pupil showing. His hand suddenly extended as though her were physically exerting his body to extend his will out towards the truck.

Meanwhile inside the truck, the driver and passenger were garbed in fill Genecorp labeled Kevlar armor complete balaclavas. The driver's attention was fixated on the road as the passenger picked up the hand radio in front of him.

"HQ, this is transport 310 do you copy over?" the passenger barked over the radio.

"Copy 310 what's your 10-20?" came a reply over the radio.

"We have left Checkpoint two and are currently enroute to I-75 north, do you copy?"

"Roger that, happy trails!"

As soon as the conversation was finished, the passenger replaced the hand piece back in its place and leaned back in his seat. "You think these two are dangerous?" he said to his driver.

"Naw," he replied sharply. "Green Level hybrid, barely a threat, just a little girl and some ferret. Boss don't even know what their powers are"

"Yeah better to be safe then sorry right?"

"Y... FUCK!!!!"

Before the driver knew it, a ghostly form of a woman stood in the middle of the road facing them. Her red hair danced playfully as though the wind were flowing through it. Her silk garments also seemed to have invisible hands causing them to dance playfully, taunting the two humans in the truck. The Driver slammed suddenly on the break, but the slightly slick road from the previous night. As the truck slid around on the slick ground, it quickly passed through the woman in the road without hitting her. As she passed through the two humans, they felt a sudden static electrical cold feeling shoot through their bodies. This didn't help the situation as the driver tried to quickly turn the wheel to try and keep from spinning out. It was all for naught as they quickly approached a turn in the road. Luckily, they were heading for a side of the road with the incline and treeline. They felt the truck shake as it came to it's sudden stop into one of the larger trees. The clang of metal was reverberated through their cockpit as they slammed into the side of the tree hard. Thankfully, the holding cells in the back held up well.

"Shit!" yelled the driver suddenly, looking to his partner. "The fuck was that?"

The passenger simply was obviously shaken from the jarring crash. His eyes were wide with shock and fear as he simply stared out his side of the windshield. The driver's gaze followed his partners to find Geist sitting on the front of their truck, smiling. He slowly reached out towards the glass and phased through. His head soon followed as he began crawling into the cab.

"You killed her..." he muttered in a teasing manner.

"Wh... what did you say?" the driver spoke.

Geist turned his gaze to the speaker and kept that creepy little smile on his face. "You killed her... poor human girl. Was merely trying to find her lost lover for so long, and you all killed her."

"N... no... She"

"MURDERERS!" he interrupted as he pointed to the driver. "Your sins will reverberate through this place. She will wander this world until the end of days! she will not know rest, she will not know peace! SHE WILL HAUNT YOU FOR ALL ETERNITY!"

With that, the two men quickly unstrapped themselves and began running down the street screaming in utter horror. Geist phased back out of the cab and smiled devilishly as they booked it down the road, with Soulfox and Deadeye's car finally catching up to the wreck site. Both foxes climbed out of the car, and watched for a while as the two men kept running.

"You enjoyed that a little too much didn't you Geist?" Deadeye finally asked.

"Nonlethal methods of taking down threats can be fun from time to time, yes!" he replied with a sagely nod.

Deadeye quickly hopped into the truck to open up the glove compartment to find the keycard that would open the back door of the armored truck. He quickly pulled it out and made his way to the rear of the car. He slides the card in the reader, just under the door jam. He was replied with a green light and a loud beep, giving him permission to open the door.

"How did you know that would be in the glove compartment?" asked Soulfox.

"On a hunch."

The two foxes slowly made their way in to find a young border collie strapped to one of the six seats, three on one side, three on the other. Luckily, she happened on the side that didn't hit the tree. She was strapped down tightly to the chair and an electronic muzzle slapped around her face. She was garbed in a simple black hooded sweatshirt, a pair of jeans and a pair of white ADIDAS sneakers. She looked to the two foxes with utter terror as they approached her. Across from her was a rather short looking ferret with cream colored body fur and his hands, tail tip and make all a dark brown. He wore an old Metallica "And Justice For All" white T-shirt and a faded, and holey blue jeans. Deadeye found another reader just beside her seat and quickly slides the the card through. The confirmation beep sounded once again and released her arms from the restraints. She saw how the humans had slapped the muzzle on her, she reached up to the muzzle and pushed a simple button code. A loud hiss was heard as the muzzle finally gave way and dropped to the floor.

Now that she was free of the horrid contraption, the two could see what her face looked like. She had one large black spot over her right eye and white on the other side of her face. She had several piercings in each ear, one over each eyebrow, and one single ring in her lip. She gasped through her mouth as that muzzle fell to the ground, now finally able to speak, before handing the card over to Soulfox to release the ferret..

"Who are you guys?! What happened?" she asked.

"Calm down," replied Soulfox as he placed his hand over her to reassure her. "We're hybrids like you. I sensed you were in danger and we came to save you."

She had been in the darkness for a while, and her eyes finally adjusted to the light to finally see the two foxes for what they really were. "Thank god... I thought you were the guards in charge of my transport." she said in a sigh of relief.

"Where were you headed?" Soulfox asked.

"I don't know... all I know is that Genecorp was behind it."

"Genecorp..." Deadeye said with a audible growl.

"You guys know them?" she asked.

"We've had run ins with them lately..." Soufox replied

"Thank you both so much, but I've no where to go."

"You're in luck..." Deadeye spoke up. "Where we're headed is a place for our kind, I'm sure Dr. Moreau wouldn't mind you staying."

Soulfox nodded in agreement. "Don't you worry, we'll protect you no matter what!"

"And who says chivalry is dead?" she said sarcastically with a smirk on her face.

Suddenly, Geist's head pops through the side of truck, looking to the foxes. This caused the border collie to jump and yelp in surprise.

"Guys, we should get going. I just found out Genecorp's got this truck low jacked. They'll be here any minute!"

"Got it," Deadeye replied with a nod. With that, Geist quickly pulled his head out as the foxes aided the border collie to her feet, with her arms over each fox's shoulders. "My name is Deadeye, This is Soulfox, What's your name?"

"Lassie," she replied after a while, "Lassie McKenzie."

"Well Ms. McKenzie," Soulfox replied. "Seems like today is your lucky day..."

"Um.... Excuse me..." came a hesitant from behind Deadeye. The fox turned around slowly to look at the ferret, whom Soulfox was aiding in escaping the contraption. He started the wring his hands nervously once his hands were free. "W... What about me?"

"You don't have anywhere to go either?"

"N...no... G... Genecorps killed..." The Ferret couldn't finish the sentence. He slowly lowered his head and his ears folded against his head.

"What's you're name kid?"

" James..." the ferret finally muttered after a short silence, "But... what friends I have call me Fidget, be... because of my nervous habits."

Deadeye looked up to Soulfox who merely gave him a simple nod. Returning the nod, he turned his attention back to the young ferret. "Alright, you can come with us too. You'll be safer with us..."
