#12 of Drakensang

So I did rewrite the chapter, and it came out surprisingly short.

Still, here you go...

"And the devil said to the son of god;

I believe you got it straight

So deal me one for the time has come to see, who will be the king of this place

But as he spoke, from beneath his cloak, he slipped another ace.

Ten thousand souls was the opening bid; soon went up to fifty-nine

But the lord didn't see what the devil did and he said

That suits me fine

I raise you high to Hundred-five, and forever put an end to your sins

But the devil let out a mighty shout

MY HAND WINS!!

Actually Kyle expected to meet a fierce opposition of his mate against introducing another female into the apartment, but surprisingly Rak'Shi took this in quite calmly. That only brought it home for him just how very little he knew about his mate. Hell, she even prepared a place on the sofa for her, and brought in some bedding for her.

After placing the unconscious dragoness on the sofa, and covering her with the bedclothes, Kyle once more checked her eye pupils reaction to light, and most of the other autonomous reflexes, lack of which could point out to potential brain damage. Though he skipped the finger-in-her-ass thingy. Doing this in front of his mate would be, if not actually dangerous, just plain weird.

When he finished his makeshift examination, he sighed and stepped back, sitting on the bed, beside Rak'Shi, and putting his arm around her, pulled her close and planted a kiss on the top of her snout.

  • I have to say it - he smiled at her - I thought you'd spew hell upon me for bringing her here. I'm so ashamed for doubting in you...

  • I trust you - she purred back, rubbing her snout against him - Though I am warning you. If you betray my trust, I'll bite your head off, and shove it up your ass... I'll find a way to do it, be assured.

  • I wouldn't dare - he murmured.

She smiled sweetly, and gave him a long sensuous lick across his lips. At the second time she did that, Kyle entangled her tongue with his, and started to lick it. She liked it... A lot. He could clearly sense her arousal growing, as her tail curled around his leg and begun to twitch upon it, and her scent became more and more noticeable.

  • You're not tired, are you? - Asked Rak'Shi braking off the kiss, and rubbing her snout against his cheek - We could have some fun, you know...

  • I don't like audiences - he answered

She smiled sweetly to him, and placing her paw at his chest pushed him onto bed, climbing atop him afterwards, and laying on flat on him, to tease his face with her snout once more, knowing just how much he liked it.

  • I need you - she whispered - Now.

She took his hands into hers, and placing them on her back, she slid down to her rump, squeezing them there, giving him a hint to keep them there, and sat on him.

  • We do have a bathroom, you know - she murmured - And that bathroom has a door...

  • I'm listening - spoke Kyle with a deep throaty rumble. She smiled to him self at how much his behavior was growing similar to that of a drake. Purposely or not she liked the idea.

  • Well, we can go there; close the door, use the shower to get really dirty...

  • By saying dirty you mean...?

  • Dirty, like in "no holes barred" - she flashed her fangs at him - So, are you in it, or just want to... Keel over and sleep?

She put as much distaste in the word "sleep" as she was able to, and then yelped out of surprise, when Kyle rolled her onto her back. He barely gave her time to fold her wings back properly. They tended to hurt badly if weren't properly aligned, while she was on her back.

  • Let me think on that for a second - he grinned at her wickedly.

Rak'Shi seeing the look on his face swallowed loudly; he could have sworn he saw a bulge going down her throat. She looked so adorable at that moment...

In the dim light of the fireplace, and but a few oil lamps hanging by the walls of the Drakensang palace guest chambers Kha'Ron of Fangrock placed a sturdy looking, rectangular black box on the table and returned to his chest to bring another one; much smaller one. Placing it beside the larger box and sitting in front he opened it, and pulled out long wire. Then he connected it to the back of the larger box, and flipped a small switch. A holo-screen appeared, and Kha'Ron froze for a moment with his paw over the panel, trying to recall correct sequence for pressing those odd, ethereal... Glyphs, or whatever they were called. He wasn't comfortable with all those fancy gifts, even though he was using them for over the week. Though he had to admit, that this was way better way to communicate over the distances, than sending a messenger with sealed letter.

Finally he managed to set the right frequency, and sent a call request. It took but a few seconds for the screen to flicker and begin displaying a human in the suit with helmet on.

  • What is it now? - asked the man, clearly annoyed

  • Have The Church sent an agent to Drakensang beside me? - asked Kha'Ron.

  • Why?

  • I saw one of your kind in the palace here. Word is he saved the life of Mth'Ran's daughter.

  • What did he looked like?

  • A dark-blue and gray armor with shining spine-column. Black hair, cocky as hell. Sha'Rae called him... Kale..?

  • Kyle - corrected the man on the holo-screen, shaking his head slightly at how did the draconian managed not to memorize such simple thing. Kyle... Such a plebeian name - Kyle Garathy?

  • Yes. - draconian nodded - So the Church did sent him here, then?

  • No - the man stated firmly - He is not one of us. He's like nagging little pest, that doesn't know when to die. A knight-errant, bent on destroying our every hope for transcending death.

  • Should I dispose of him, then?

  • I pray you'd be joking - the human admonished him - Do what you were told, but do not let Garathy learn about you, and our goal. Try to prevent him from spreading his vile influence upon the city inhabitants.

  • Forgive me impudence, but he's just a one man. - Surely...

  • Do not underestimate him. The Church has made this mistake in his early days, and suffered for it. "He's just a grunt; a peasant, promoted to appease the restless populace; show them that if they behave, they can be one of the elites. He's no threat to us"... Since the old committee gave him that hunk-a-junk, Church of Unitology experienced setback after setback. As of late Kyle Garathy was nearly untouchable, because his spectacular exploits. Don't do anything to fondle his attention.

  • I shall obey - responded Kha'Ron and folded his arms to form a marker shape.

  • What about your progress so far?

  • The lord of the city is a canny old lizard. - said Kha'Ron - He won't be easily persuaded... But when I'll get his daughter as a mate it shouldn't be much of a problem.

  • Use the holy relic, you have been provided with. Just keep the noise down...

One room above, Sha'Rae retreated from the balcony covering her muzzle with her paws. What she was supposed to do now? She couldn't tell her father what she heard, because she did similar pranks in the past, to send away the candidates. This time her father won't believe her, that they are being... She couldn't even think about it without revulsion.

But she had to do something!

Maybe she should tell Var'Lsh? Or Kyle..?

Yes, that's it! They seem to be afraid of Kyle learning about their plans... Though she would need to tell Var'Lsh regardless. He knew where Kyle lived, and frankly, she couldn't get out of the palace, unnoticed; not now when there's a whole army watching her every move... It's strange that they didn't put a guard inside her chambers...

Var'Lsh put heavy two-handed sword back on the rack with childish ease. His muscles ached from intensive training, but he didn't put much attention to the fact. He was the leader of the palace guards. He needed to be in the top condition all of the time. He had failed once, putting young lady in danger, but he shall not do so again. He should have been there with the others; protecting her. Not in the city, entertaining the guests.

It was a damn stroke of luck, that that Kyle character came along and...

But was it? Was it truly luck?

Was he really there by accident, or according to the plan..?

Sure, Var'Lsh liked him. There was that aura of confidence about him, like nothing could ever go wrong when he's at it, plus he didn't asked for a reward of any kind for his effort in saving Sha'Rae, and bringing her safely to the city. He even used his own money to pay for everything, rather that passing the bills on him, though Var'Lsh said he could. Still, he was an outsider, with hell knows what agenda... Maybe he should treat Kyle with more caution..?

He undressed him self and entered the baths. There he jumped into a large pool in the center, and started swimming around. The water in there was constantly hot, heated by the fires from the deep insides of mountain upon which the city has been build. Having enough of swimming he lay back, allowing his body to float in the water.

Frankly, he had a lot more things on his head, then whether Kyle is or is not honest in his intentions. Kha'Ron's troops for instance. Mth'Ran's acceptance for foreign troop within the city limits was confusing, to say the least. Even more so, an elder, sent by the Firstborns to keep an eye for such transgressions had approved it for Mth'Ran's specific request.

Since when the elders allowed such... Liberal interpretation of the Great Convention, especially to someones request? This was just unspeakable! Good thing, though his men was still in control, and he could easily call in the rest of the troops, and the Watch. There was a plot brewing. And he didn't like what it was bringing with itself.

After an hour or so, of relaxing in the water, Var'Lsh went to his chambers to get some fresh clothes, and then made a quick walk around the palace, to check the guard placement on the night shift. Well, at least some of them, because to his surprise, there were parts of the castle, that he was forbidden to enter. This was an outrage! He was the leader of the guards; a Dragon Knight! He could enter anywhere he wanted to, it was his job! This matter had to be presented to Mth'Ran at once. Even, though it was late, and Mth'Ran didn't appreciated being woken.

He walked along the hallway leading to the lords chambers, when the door on the right have opened just a crack, and Sha'Rae's muzzle poke out.

  • We have to talk - she whispered, after a short hiss

  • Forgive me, my lady, but I have an urgent matters to convey to your father - he said politely

  • This IS important - she stressed, looking around for any unwanted listeners - It's about Kha'Ron, and I think Kyle...

  • My lady, please - he interrupted her -not now.

Sha'Rae glared at him in frustration and wanted to admonish him verbally, but he was already beyond the corner. She hissed to herself, and turning her head around, she saw a movement in the shadows. It definitely was there, but when she looked at it directly, there was no one there.

Startled, she backed away closing and locking the door. She started to move backwards, away from the doors, not letting her sight off them, and just trying to feel what was behind her with her paws.

Suddenly someone caught her wrist, and muzzle in a tight grip, and her feet suddenly lost their contact with the floor.

Var'Lsh stopped abruptly, hearing strange noise coming from behind. He looked back, but couldn't see anyone. He stood there, listening, looking, and trying to smell the potential intruder, but to no avail. Unfortunately his heat seekers was still knocked out because of the hot bath he took earlier, so he couldn't use those.

Someone punched him in the guts, hard, but he brushed it off quickly and counterattacked instantly. Yet his claws reached nothing but air, and he got hit again and felt sharp pain in the area of his kidneys . This time he managed to topple his attacker, and was just about to jump on him to tear his flesh down to the bones, but got electrocuted right into his spine. Nothing that he experienced so far could prepare him for that kind of pain. He roared powerfully before going out, but there was no one who could come to his aid.

Var'Lsh had no idea how long he was out, but coming to his senses brought only regret for not being stunned longer. His body felt fried, he couldn't breathe through his nostrils, and his head felt like stepped on by something heavy. Very heavy.

He opened one eye and saw Mth'Ran, Zin'Del and Sha'Rae tied and on their knees. They were in Mth'Ran's chambers. He could tell, because the window in front of him was going out on the harbor district, and he could hear the water beyond it. He heard something else as well.

Kha'Ron with two of his knights stood backwards to them, manipulating with some package, while muttering some illegible words. He pulled out a red rock-like object from the package, and turned around to face Mth'Ran. His knights grabbed Mth'Ran, and brought him flat on the floor. Then Kha'Ron still muttering that unnerving mantra of sorts, stand above him with the red rock in his paw, and crouched. Var'Lsh couldn't see what he was doing, because the bed was in the way, but he could see Mth'Rans legs and tail trashing about violently; talons scrapped the floor in helpless agony.

He had to do something; He had to protect the royal family! Or die trying...

Straining his muscles he tried to brake his bonds, and redoubled his effort seeing how Mth'Rans legs falling limply on the floor, and Kha'Ron standing up is turning to the rest of them. He managed to jump on his feet, and charged forward, ripping the restraints along the way, and gathering both dragonesses in his arms throw himself and the dragonesses over the window, and fell several floors down, managing to cover them with his wings just before slamming hard with the back of his neck, and shoulders at the water surface.
