#1 of Shadow Of Chernobyl

It started with a simple assassination mission. We were sent to hunt down a notorious arms dealer known only as "The Jackal". He was making a deal in the dead city of Chernobyl. Rumors around had it that strange things had been happening lately. Disappearances, strange noises and the like. We didn't think we'd have a problem. We were dead wrong.

Romeo Headquarters

Tanner's POV

The alarm clock went off beside my bed. It's sound drilled right through my skull.

"Why do I even set the damn thing?" I asked myself as I shut it off.

I lay in bed for a few minutes before sitting up. The room felt empty without my parents, they were still away on a six month deployment to Iran. I hadn't seen them in close to five months now. The worst part of it was that when I'd finally finished basic training at the top of my class, they weren't here to see it. It had wrecked me on the inside. With a little will power,I pulled myself out of bed and walked into my bathroom, showered off and then looked at myself in the mirror.

How would I describe my appearance? I was a six one, fourteen year old Anthro dragon with desert tan scales covering most of my body, and dark brown ones covering my neck, chest and going down the underside of my tail. My eyes were a bright blue, they almost glowed when they caught the light, and the undersides of my wings were dark brown, while the tops were the same tan that covered the rest of me. I have three dark brown spikes on both sides of my muzzle and my horns curve backwards about three quarter's of a foot or so.

I smiled at my appearance and then brushed my teeth before dressing in a bright blue Under Armour shirt and tan cargo shorts. I walked back into my room and grabbed my dog tags, hanging them around my neck before exiting the barracks and heading for the course. The wind was blowing and the smell of grass and salt water carried on the wind. I could see the many Resistance ships sitting in the harbor. From simple patrol boats,to Captain Artimus Carloth's Battleship all the way up to the mighty battle cruisers Stardust and Poseidon.

From my Dad's old war stories, the Draconian Resistance was formed about twenty years ago when General Lung Wei,a five hundred year old Asian Lung dragon(I always got the creeps around him when I was little) and General Nolan Scott, the general of Romeo, first ever project Draco recruit and a good friend of Dad's,rescued Major Taro Salanth from death in a mine in Afghanistan. They formed the Resistance as a way of exposing the Draco project for what it was and to stop the use of dragons like tools. There not just here to expose Project Draco though, there other objectives are destruction of terrorist groups like The Taliban and Al Qudea.

I arrived at the course, there was no one there,so I started running laps. I did this for an hour or so before going to push ups. After I was done with that,it was around eight O'clock and the smell of cooking meat was beginning to carry on the wind. I grabbed my water and towel from the bench,I slurped as much of the water as I could before wiping the sweat from my muzzle and snout. I went back to my room and quickly showered and changed into a white T-shirt and brown cargo pants before walking to the mess hall. As always,it was crowded and loud as hell. I went through the line, taking two eggs and a few pieces of sausage before sitting down at a relatively empty table. I was in the middle of eating when I heard a voice I never liked hearing.

"Hey runt",it said,"your sitting at our table."

I turned to see Tavreth staring daggers at me. Tavreth is a seven foot tall, stuck up anthro with mint green scales covering most of his body and dark blue ones on his neck, chest and underneath his tail. His horns are two feet long and serrated like a belt knife. His fiery orange eyes were full of hate.

"Your in our spot Vorlan",he said again,"move your tail before I cut it off."

I grabbed my tray and moved to the other end of the table. Tavreth and his buddies sat down at the other end of thetable and began eating as if nothing had happened. I sighed and shook my head as I finished eating. I was walking out of the mess hall when a voice called out.

"Tanner!"

I turned to see Hudson Weaver coming towards me. Hudson was a member of Strike Force Raven, one of the better known teams at Romeo. He was a 6'10,350 pound beast of a man who could hold his own against any dragon,Anthro and Feral alike,as he'd demonstrated when he'd taught us hand to hand in training. He had brown hair that was cut close to his head and green eyes.

"General Nolan wants to see you,"Hudson said.

"Sir yes sir." I replied before turning and walking for the main HQ building. It was a large four story tan brick building that I'd only been into a couple of times with my Dad and Mom. I walked inside and up the flights of stairs, eventually coming to a door at the end of a long hallway with a sign that read,"General Nolan Xavier Scott". I knocked on the door.

"Come in",Nolan's voice called from inside.

I opened the door and entered the room, closing the door behind me. The room was dimly lit, like something you might see in a movie theater or an auditorium. The carpet was a deep red and a decent sized circular table. Files were spread out and Nolan was hunched over the table.

"You sent for me sir?" I asked standing as straight as I could.

"No need for that Private",Nolan said smiling,"please come here."

Nolan was around six feet tall with short spiky brown hair and a well trimmed beard. His eyes were bright sliver with inhuman flecks of midnight blue threaded into them. Dad tells me that Nolan was the first ever Project Draco recruit in 1945,but when they tried to mix his DNA,it had failed, giving him dragon senses and strength in a human body.

"You sent for me sir?" I asked standing across from him.

"Yes I did Tanner",Nolan said,"please have a seat."

I sat down in a chair near the table. Nolan came over and sat in the one right next to me,his expression growing very serious.

"I have a mission for you Tanner,"Nolan said.

"Yes sir",I replied,"I am ready sir!"

Nolan smiled,"Your Mom and Dad have trained you well."

"Thank you sir." I replied.

Nolan took a skinny blue folder from the piles of files and placed it in front of me.

"I'm sending you to track down a very dangerous man Tanner",Nolan said as I opened the folder,"he sells to the Russian and Italian Mafias, not to mention dealing DK ammunition the Taliban and Al Qudea."

"Hmm",I began as I read.

From what I could gather, this man had enough money and weapons to roll over the US and the Russian military's at the same time. His black market ring wasthe largest in the world and he acquired much of his merchandise by blackmail and theft. I also learned that he was ex-Spestnaz and Russian Mafia. Moreover,I learned that he dealt to the biggest drug cartel in the world.

"This man, known only as "The Jackal" is a root cause of much world suffering",Nolan said,"he must be found and eliminated as quickly as possible."

I read over the folder as thoroughly as possible and then closed it.

"When do I go?" I asked.

"Two hours",Nolan replied,"you'll fly on a C-260 to Fire base Echo in Pakistan, where you will disembark and meet the team you will be working with."

"Understood sir",I replied.

"Very well",Nolan replied,"ready your gear and be at the landing strip in two hours."

"Sir yes sir",I said as I left the room.

I walked back to my room, closing the door behind me and leaning up against it. I leaned there for a minute before walking to my dresser and pulling out a black, full Under Armour body suit. It covered from where my head met my neck, all the way down to the soles of my paws. It also covered my wings and tail as well as going halfway up my fingers. I took off my shirt and shorts and quickly slipped into it before going over to a wide locker in the corner of my room.

I punched a few digits on the key pad and the locker clanked open. From it,I removed my L96 A1,my Resistance AR-15 Mk-II,my AA-12 Automatic shotgun and a Colt M1911 A2. I set my weapons on my bed and then turned back to the locker. I pulled out a set of desert camo BDU's and sliped them on

over the Under Armour suit.Like the suit, the pants had a sleve that covered my entire tail and the jacket had holes in it for my wings. I also removed a pair of boots and half finger gloves designed specifically for Anthro's and slipped them on. Next my vest came out. It,like the Under Armour suit and the BDUs,was specially desinged by The Resistance for Anthro's. The front was like a regular vest, but the back was cut into three peices. The middle part, which went in between my wings, and two other parts that sat on the sides.

I pulled the vest on and clasped the two buckles on my shoulders and four on each side to hold it two me as well as the four buckels on my back, one above and under each wing before buckling the belt which hung from the vest around my waist. I always wore it all as tightly as I could,I don't know why though, just one of those things I guess.

I turned and looked at my reflection in the mirror. I had five, triple stack AR-15 ammo pouches going across my stomach along with five frag grenade pouches on my chest and several L96 stripper clip pouches below those. On the sides of my vest hung ten,ten round double stack magazine pouches for the AA-12. My drop leg pouch held four blocks of C4 and my Colt .45 hung in a holster on my right leg. I had six, double stack magazine pouches on the webbing of my explosives pouch and a Camelbak hydration bladder clung to the webbing on the back of my vest like a spider, the hose, covered by a desert tan sleeve, ran over my shoulder and came to a stop below the Resistance emblem sewn into the vest. Built into my belt, was a sheath for a huge serrated belt knife, which by the way,was occupied. I had a couple of glow sticks in some extra webbing on my vest and a blow out kit on my belt. I ran the ear piece from the radio on my back through the webbing on my shoulder and stuck the ear piece into my ear.

I then grabbed my firearms from the bed, sliding the forty five into it's holster and slinging the L96 and AA-12 over my back while I took my AR and my rucksack, which contained most everything else I would need in my paws. All together,I was loaded down with 200 or so pounds of gear. I slung my ruck over my shoulders and strapped it on as I went for the air strip.

When i got there,I got into the pane and found a place to stow my ruck, sniper rifle and shotgun and then found a place to sit. I leaned back into my seat with my eyes closed.

"How long untill we make echo"?"A human female asked from the back of the plane.

"30 hours give or take",the pilot called,"make yourselves comfortable, gonna be a long fly."

"30 hours is a long ass time." A white, red and blue dragon said laying his head between his paws.

"Yeah",another huge, brown one said,,"welcome back to service huh Shadow?"

As the hatch closed and the plane took off, some of the Feral Dragons fell asleep, while some of the Anthro's and humans talked quietly and still others, like me,wanted to find sleep, but couldn't. This was my first mission and for the record,I was scared out of my mind. It was a while before I was finally able to clear my head and sleep was able to take a hold on me.
