...Lost...

Story by Damain & Fara on SoFurry

, ,

Damain sighed deeply trying to release some tension and stress. Walking down the street, his combats soaked with the water of puddle he'd splashed through. Damain walked toward his destination slowly; wary of what was to be. Rain droplets hitting his leather jacket hard with 'tat tat'. He looked as if he'd just blasted right out of the 1980s, listening to some old, classic rock on his CD player in his pocket, wearin' his shades, dressed in a black T Shirt and jeans.

His silver eyes rove over the shadowy dark streets. As this strange world's sounds drown on an on, his mind began to wander to the past, of his Lady Love, all his friends, all the people he had ever known, were gone an of what was. Before...before what? His memory began to fog, his eyes filled with tears and his heart screamed in rage, but something wouldn't let him scream. "No!" a small whisper was all that could escape from his knotted throat. "Damnit. What happened to me?!" he thought as he put his hand to his brow. Damain shook his head. He couldn't let his heart win this time, that t'was what nights were for, he scoffed at himself. Damain held his head up and stared straight forward, avoided their glares and the way they treated him as if he were some stupid punk. He'd show them someday. He'd work hard on this knew job, (as he'd been told) he had lucky to even get.

Damain stood outside this very large building. "One foot in front of the other, man. It'll be ok..."

He swished his tail side to side... one of his nervous habits. Damain walked slowly up the walkway. But before he could knock, someone met him at the door. "Hello, my name is Mr. Gibbs, I am your manager. Shall I break it down, so that you may understand what it is you will be doing?" The Black Panther studied him carefully with his moon-gold eyes, as if at any moment Damain would cut his throat like some wild human. "You will be working alongside Mr. Webber here." The Black Panther gestured to the Bluish-Looking Fox. "Damain--" "It's Anubis--" "Well, Anubis get acquainted." "And you, Mr. Webber I expect you to show him the ropes." "Yes sir." The Fox nodded as the panther exited.

As soon as he was out of earshot, The Fox grinned. "It's Mason, and don't pay much to Mr. Gibbs, he's a real asset to this place." Mason smiled. "You're only off by to letters." Damain said with a smile. Mason giggled. "You remind me of someone I once knew." Damain said. Mason raised a brow, "And who might this 'someone' be?" he asked. Damain looked down and closed his mouth as if to refuse to answer. "It's ok, man. You don't have to tell me," the fox said with a smile and a swish of his tail.

"Oh and the rat in the corner is supposed to help us." Mason said pointing to the mouse. "I'm a Mouse!" The gray rodent yelled. Damain later found out later her name was Kelly.

"So what's your story?" Kelly asked smiling. "There isn't a story." Damain lied. He swished the tip of his tail side to side as he always had when he lied. She stared at his and raised a brow, "Ok, if that's how you want it, then so be it." "So what's your name? Or do you not want to answer that either, Mr. 'Anubis'," Kelly asked. Damain's jaw dropped. She was the first person he'd met that had spunk in a long while, since, whatever had happened to him, happened to him. He smiled to himself. "You want ta'know you got to earn my trust," Damain said and smiled to both of them. "Well let's get to work Romeo and Juliet," Mason said, staring at them. When they glared at him, he giggled, and walked away. "You coming or what?" Kelly said, as she stared at him for a moment and then ran and jumped onto Mason's shoulders.

After a few minutes of them showing him the work, he caught on.

He learned the number one rule: Above all make no contact to the children, none not even a gesture. Damain and they swept, and cleaned throughout the building and within hours they'd finished the whole building...

They began walking down stairs to the basement. Mason jangled his keys and unlocked the "Staff Only" door. We went inside, Kelly and Mason lost they're selves in the jokes and pokes. Damain sat down on a hard wooded chair watching them, it triggered a long lost memory. Fara... Oh my Fara... He saw her smile, her beautiful smile, & her captivating eyes. Her compassionate heart towards the unforgiven... Tears burn his eyes. Kelly had retreated to the bathroom to change.

"Hey. Are you alright man?" Mason said, kneeling a few inches away. Damain's mind filled with memories, and his eyes were too filled with tears to notice him. Mason saw the tear drop fall. A single tear that otherwise would've gone unnoticed. Mason touched his shoulder lightly. "You miss someone?" The unexpected question brought Damain back to the present. "Yeah, I do... How'd you know?"

Mason sighed as he stood. "Been there man, the same old story with different words; people say 'She was just a woman' but she wasn't, was she?" "No, she was the best. She was my wife." Damain said as a sad smile tasted his lips for only a moment then it was gone as if you'd only imagined it. "Your wife, eh? What was her name?" "...Fara." Damain said as if it'd been a long time since his lips tasted her name. Damain's eyes glistened with tears so unwilling to fall. "I just can't remember what happened..." Damain unconsciously blurted out. "So, what happened?" Mason asked inquisitively. Damain stared at him for a long moment. "Well, ok. I think I can trust you... Awhile back I guess you'd say it happened in the blink of an eye it was 1999s--"

"Whoa what a minute, it's 2088. How the fuck can you be from 1999?! And you don't look a day over 22." Mason almost shouted.

"If you'll listen you'll find out." Mason nodded. "Now, as I was saying... It was October 10th 2007, two days before Fara's birthday; I remember coming home to work, business was great, and my books were best sellers. I was watching TV with her on the couch just holding her. It was one relaxing evening. I remember making love to her that night, but we won't go into details on that one, now will we." Damain laugh was shaky and his eyes went misty from the memory of his beauty Fara.

Mason nodded as if to tell him to go on. "And later after that we fell asleep. There was a huge booming sound, like an explosion or something, then the brightest light I had ever known, so bright, and yet left the foes in the shadows. I woke up to Fara screaming, and I mean when she screams it could be herd up to miles away. My eyes burned with the light, my body was soon alive with rage as I saw them holding her, so I wouldn't hit them. I got to my feet, "What the hell do you want with us?!" I yelled above the choppers outside. "We want you to cooperate with us so we don't have to end her precious life." I step forward ready for a fight, and was hit on the head by something hard, very hard. The last thing I heard was "No! Don't take him I love him!" I knew that she had fought with them hard, to save me. After that everything went black..."

Damain finished the story, well all that he would tell Mason. Also because Kelly had came back into the room. "Did someone die in here? The two of you look so serious..." Mason and Him exchanged looks. "Nah, no one died." "Well then, it's clock out time and I'm going home." Kelly said, while putting her shoulder length hair up in a pony tail. "I got to get back to my kid." She said with a sigh. "I got to get back home before my... roommate gets worried." Mason said looking a bit nervous. Mason stood twitching his tail unconsciously. Kelly left; soon it was just Mason and me. "You sure you don't want company?" He asked. "I have no where to go, why would I need company?" "You're staying here? Don't you have somewhere to live?" he asked. "Nope, I haven't had much time, or money to afford a place." "Um... I guess you can stay with me, we'd have to ask my roommate..." He said on the edge of blushing. "It's ok, that you have a, 'roommate'." I said with a soft smile and a wink. "Oh, ok. Let's go." He said blushing, trying not to let me see.

We walked out the front door of the building. "My cars over there," Mason said and gestured to a sleek black, two doors GTO. "Wow... how did you afford such a beauty?" I asked. He looked at me like I was nuts. "They're cheap now." He said as he turned the key to unlock the door. It unexpectedly unlocked both of them. I got in and looked around. It wasn't too spacious, but it was still cool. I looked for a seat belt and couldn't find one. "Uh, where's the seat belt?" I asked. He sighed as he turned on the ignition, "Right there." He pointed to two buttons between the seats. He pushed his and some beam of light went across his chest and lap. I put my clawed finger cautiously over the other button, and pushed it, the same thing happened to me. It strangely didn't burn or hurt. "Here we go," Mason said as some kind of hissing fire sound came from the trunk and he hit the gas. We started going up into the sky, and I panicked. "We don't have this technology in my time." I said as I closed my eyes, I still had that tiny fear of flying... Mason blue-gray paws moved over some screen and pushed something. "Home, please." He said staring at the screen. And we took off fast, and I mean fast. We were at his house within 10 minutes.

We got out of the flying car thing, and went up the concrete steps. Mason paused for a moment and said, "Ok, um let me talk to him. You go and sit somewhere." He hit some buttons with beeping noises and the door slid open. I saw a pure white furred figure sitting in the recliner in the center of the room. "I'm home!" Mason yelled. "Lyain, I brought a friend home to stay with us for awhile." Mason said to the white fox with sea green eyes. "Well, hello there, I'm Lyain, and you are?" he said and offered his white paw to shake. "Anubis," I said and shook his paw. "Well, Anubis nice to meet you." Lyain said smiled. "Like-wise." I said. "Where am I crashing?" I asked and they looked at me as if I'd said something weird. "I mean sleeping..." I said and coughed. "In the spare room in the back, follow the small hallway" Mason said pointing to the hall. I walked down the hall to a silver smooth door. I pushed the big button and it slid open just as the front door had. I fell on top of the bed and slept for what felt like days. I dreamt my horrible past.

In my dream:

I awoke again to a bright blue room, with shiny, smooth walls. Fara lay next to me, reaching for my hand. I held her hand and she said "They've got us, sweetheart. The humans have got us..." after a few moments later she asked, "Are we going to die?" I swallowed hard. "No, my darling, we will not die here." She tried to speak again, I could feel it. "Shhh, I hear them" I said and held her close, for what was the last time... "General, we've captured a couple of furs just as you have ordered" "Where are they?" "Unconscious, in the other room Sir." "Ah, so the experiment will proceed as planed." What experiments? I asked myself. Humans those foul loathsome creatures, I hated them with every ounce of energy. I glared at the ceiling. I tried to move, but I couldn't. "We're tied up sweetheart" "Oh..." I said sadly.

_I looked at her with uncertainty. I noticed a deep slice above her eyebrow; her bottom lip was split, and there were puncture marks on the right side of her neck. "They took a lot of fight out of you with that mark, didn't that?" I asked and traced the marks with my finger tips. "Yeah, a tazer will do that to you... " she said smiling I somehow knew she nearly kicked they're asses." "_Oh gawds how I miss my beauty..."

I remember opening my eyes the next moment with some furless human looking down upon us like we were mutants or aliens or something horrible. I glanced at Fara for a moment. Then up at this hairless leader of some kind, and another wearing a white lab coat. "The capsules are prepare, Sir." The man in white said.

I awoke startled half to death:

CAPSULES?! Oh My!!! They did what they did to me, to my Fara! I've got to find her...

Can it be true? Can she really be here?! Thoughts exploded in his mind and where gone before he could capture them. I remember now... The place where I awoke in the dream, or the past, was in this tomb looking place. I was in this black with dust-of-ages coffin thing. There was a second 'capsule' next to me. It was also covered with dust. I couldn't see what was inside. I think I only got out was because of some accident.

I walked out of my room in my boxers and a t-shirt. And what I saw made my heart ache.

I saw Mason sitting next to Lyain laughing at whatever was on TV, as me and Fara always had. I wiped my eyes, and cleared my throat calling their attention. "I need a drink of water and to go to the bathroom, I'm sorry that I didn't ask earlier." I said, stood there waiting a response. "The bathrooms on your left..." Lyain said cuddling his love closer. I got finished and had my drink of water, and went back to bed.

I awoke to Mason sitting on the side of the bed I was occupying. "What?" I said in a sleepy voice. "Is anything wrong?" I asked. "Y-you're not going to tell on me are you? I mean tell the boss..." he said in a quiet voice as he trembled. I looked at him for a moment trying to comprehend what he meant. Then it hit me like a brick. I sat up and hugged the young fox, trying to stop his trembling, "No I am not going to go run off and tell. It is your business who you love, and what you do with them." I said as I released the hug and my head hit the pillow again. "Thank you so much..." Mason said. "So tell me. Do the humans still bother us?" I asked. He blinked as if I'd said I believed he was straight. "T-t-the humans?! They're gone... ya'know extinct." He said as I stared at him in disbelief. "Huh?" I asked. "Yeah, they've been gone since they kidnapped a couple of furs, for 'experiments', a wolf and a vixen, I think." He said and raised a brow. "That was us...Me and my Fara..." I said with a sad smile.

Miles away:

In the darkness lies a capsule covered in ages of dust. A gray feline walks into the room turns on the old light. The light flashed a couple of time and stayed on. The feline with blue eyes removed the ages of dust and saw the face of a young vixen. He couldn't tell the color of her fur, but somehow he knew it was white as well. Only then did he notice a second capsule next to this one. He almost fell hard for her beauty, but then realized that the other capsule once contained a male... and he didn't want another broken heart. It's been nearly a couple weeks to a month that he found her... He soon decided to release her of her frozen prison... He pushed a blue-green button and the capsule began to hiss...

I sat up inside this coffin looking thing, barely aware that I was still wearing my nightgown. I blinked at the bright light, giving my eyes a chance to adjust. I saw a gray feline standing a few feet away. "Who..." I coughed before I could finish. I tried again, "Who are you?" I asked smiling sweetly. "My name's Felix, but friends call me Hawkeye." He said and smiled sadly. I looked around again, as I said "My name's Fara..." What I noticed next made my heart within my chest go still, and my blood run cold. The capsule was empty, I knew what that meant. "Damain..." I whispered. "What?" Hawkeye asked. "I mean, there was a wolf in the thing next to me. Where is he?" she tried hard to remember what had happened. "I have no idea. I found you weeks ago, and that case was empty." He said. "Weeks ago, so you waited this long to release me?" I asked wanted to cry. "I wasn't sure if you were alive, or that I'd get into trouble for this." He answered. "I'll help you find that guy of yours." He promised. "Thank you so much" she said as he helped her out.

Hawkeye took her back to his house. "Make yourself at home." He said as he gave her a blanket to cover up in. He disapeared into the back room, and came back with some clothes for her to wear, after all she was wearing just a nightgown, and it was begining to play with his mind. "Here put these on. They're my sisters. She left them here when she moved out." he said as he handed her the clothes. "Thank you so much, it was begining to get a little chilly." She said. He leaned against the door frame as he said, "The

bath rooms over there". He pointed to the room left of them. "Your welcomed to shower." he called after her.

The small house in the suburbs didn't seem like much, but it was somewhere to stay. At least she wasn't on the streets, living in a cardboard box out in the rain. Fara thought as she pulled her nightgown off, thanking god that she always wore underwear and bra under her nightgown. She put the t shirt on and pulled the jeans on. The jeans barely fit, they were kind of big. She began to think about Damain, and where be might be. What is he didn't live? What if she could never find him? She came out of the bathroom and layed on the couch and drifted to sleep. Hawkeye covered her up. 'You'd think after all the years of sleeping that she wouldn't be tired.' he thought as he climbed into his own bed, and fell fast asleep.....
