#2 of Poetry

A poem about someone's dark love that is unlike most others. This actually came from taking a song with cookie cutter lyrics and making it good. I chose One Direction's "Kiss You" I've made some revisions since the original draft but it's still amusing to thing that this poem came from that

I Lost Myself

I wanted to take you to that Denny's you loved

After we got back together for the third time

You always ordered your coffee as black

As the night you first broke my heart.

Every time your middle finger

Points at me in sign language swears

My endorphins take over my movements.

And I can't look to either side.

I see you every day on the late night train.

Or ordering a ham and turkey sandwich

With no mayo and extra lettuce

Just the way you always like it.

But I know it's almost never you

Because you always say you're not returning.

So I sometimes I don't believe it when

I find you laying half naked on my couch.

There are no Yield signs in our bedroom.

Let us listen to our bodies.

I will shout yes, shout yes, shout yes

Until your tongue shuts me up.

Sometimes I hope you cheat on me

So that we know we've built something beautiful.

And I'll invite you still to my roof

Even though we can't see Orion.

Please tell me where I can find you

And ignite you however you fancy.

Tell me we write music on my bed sheets.

Deafen my inner ear so that my heart may listen.

Every other night is a new desire.

Fuck me.

Your left knee becomes my drug.

Pleasure is the only language we know.

I just want to skip the waltz.

You will always know where my creaky door is.

It is impossible for me to say no

When my yes is between your lips.
