#5 of Case Files

Sorry this one is a little late. The bank holiday threw me for a bit of a loop and I lost track of time.

Well, the easiest way to tell how legit this killer is will be to see if there is any record of his augmentation. I start putting in calls to the Surgical District to see if there were any major gang-clashes in the surrounding lower-areas, or a corporate raid that turned bloody. The interface between our precincts is a little choppy so it takes a while.

In the meantime, I put in a brief report to my superiors with my findings. Best to let them know I'm making progress on such a public case so they can tell the reporters something substantial.

One of the other enforcers approaches me. "Detective?" I nod for him to continue. "The crime scene clean-up needs to start. We've documented everything and need to have this street open before shift change."

I look over and see the forensic workers stripping out of messy clean suits and dumping them into bags for trace analysis. The crew I noticed earlier are also looking a little tense, so best not to antagonise them further. I wave one of them over and sign his docket of scene-release. The detective (what was his name again?) is still hanging at my elbow as they move in to sanitise the area.

"Can I help you?" I ask. I'm guessing he's eager to know why we're not racing off after the criminal.

"Do we have a suspect yet?" he asks, although the question is more loaded. He wants to know why we're not racing ahead of ourselves, running building to building with pacifiers. I give him a brief smile.

"Not yet. Whoever it was they were heavily augmented and are clearly in some sort of blood rage. Since we haven't heard anything from them in the past couple of hours we can assume they are either injured or recharging. I'm just checking with the Surgical District..." speak of the devil. My comms begin to vibrate, indicating incoming communication. I hold up a paw to the detective and he backs off a couple of paces while I listen to the inload.

Apparently there were some sporadic gang fights in the Spill; an area of lower town attached to the Surgical District. None of the injured are missing and all have been accounted for by local enforcers. There has not been any major inter-company warfare or special ops that has resulted in anyone needing the level of augmentation needed here either.

That's good news and bad. The good news is that now I know that whoever did this did it off the books. It is either so illegal that the gangs cannot afford it, or the people who ordered the work done are so powerful they can cover it up or use a private or underground clinic. That's...not great, but at least narrows our search.
