Most of the aching night was spent observing the enemy as they rested up from a conflict with the Forgotten, an event that thinned out the foxes numbers from 12 to roughly six or seven, give or take. Private Shelley suggested to Stone that they do a couple of hit and runs, to keep the foxes on their toes, said "Nothing says 'I love you' than a good old ambush." Which would've been true if they had a little more soldiers to work with. Stone stood quietly, figuring there wasn't a real good reason yet to waste their resources. He couldn't really argue since Shelley had a point. 'There's a thin line between sanity and balls out madness. But in this business it pays to step over the line from time to time.' thought Stone as he smiled to himself.

They stalked the foxes, like ninjas with rifles but with better equipment, to an abandoned gas station, a little thing that sat out of the way of any major stretches of road. It was a real wreck, as though some idiot and his friends were drunkenly searching for more booze, only to find none and disappointment. The shelves were empty, some were scattered on the floor, and there was no sign of any munchies in sight. Still it provided a good source of cover from prying eyes, mainly those wolves in the dark. Across the street, Stone and his wolves made their way into an empty building, taking great care to keep from alerting the foxes. Quietly they split into two groups, Stone leading the second upstairs. "Check your ammo. We need this to go quick and smooth." uttered Stone. "I need at least one of them alive." Stone peered out from the windows edge. "Three near the entrance. Two near the fountain machines in the back." he whispered. Their rifle barrels shined faintly in the moonlight as they lined up their shots. "On my go." ordered Stone.

Meanwhile...

"It sure is quiet out here." moaned a soldier. "Feels like one of those nights when you leave the bar with a wife for the night." "True that." "So...you getting yourself a piece of tail after this is all over?" "Fuck yeah. I haven't had a decent piece of tail since that vixen I met back in Midtown. Mmm mmm, she was my Ms. Fuzzy Yum Yum, that's for sure." "So does Ms. Lifts Her Tail have a name?" "Tanya, I think her name was." "Bull...shit. It doesn't count if you can't remember her name." "Whatever, man. Just because...."

"I got your vixen, right here." smirked Stone, as he lined up his shot, aiming center mass since his XRM would do the rest. The shot echoed shortly in the night sky as the fox was flung into the shop. "Contact!" his friend yelled. "Second story building across the way." The game was on as everyone with a rifle joined in on the song of heroes and villains that filled the sky with thunder. Thunk! A wolf beside Stone dropped from his position to hold his shoulder, "Medic!" . Down stairs was just as busy as it was upstairs, bullets were finding their way into anything that stood out of cover. Including the head of the medic who made a dash for the stairs at the wrong time. "Fuck!" cursed Stone after few minutes of waiting for the medic. "Can you still fire your weapon?" he asked the wounded wolf, who nodded back amongst his pain. Shunk! Another wolf who was briefly out of cover fell to the floor dead, a single well aimed sniper shot had done it's job true, his body slumped against the wall as his rifle dropped from the window, clanging off the ground as the thunder rolled. It was getting more hectic back downstairs as foxes made a push toward the building, dropping in and out of cover among the parked vehicles as they closed in on their foes. Swift had it set in his mind that if he cut off the wolf's head then the rest of them will fall in line, such is the order given to all foxen soldiers should they encounter Stone.

Shelley peered out for a just a moment, risking all for a brief glimpse at an enemy they were trained to hate since birth. Safe to say there were more of them than what Stone had initially seen during his initial recon. 'No way this is going to end good.' she thought as she fired randomly about. "It doesn't look too good on our part." she yelled, over the noise. "Either we fall back or go out in a blaze of glory." Stone's voice came over the comms channel, he wasn't amused at all by Shelley's words of wisdom. "You will hold your ground! That's an order!" he yelled. Shelley shook her head, knowing full well if they retreated without orders that it would be a death sentence for cowardice, not to mention a trip in front of a firing squad. 'Either way' she thought, 'It's a good day to die.' "All right you heard him." she yelled. "Hold the line!" They rose up from behind cover and returned fire in a single blaze of glory to show the foxes that no wolf ever backs down from a good fight.

Stone's eyed opened wide when an explosion rocked the building that nearly sent him to the floor with the others. "He's upstairs!" he heard someone yell from downstairs.

Shelley eyes were glazed as she blinked a few moments to get her surroundings back. Everything was quiet except for the ringing in her ears. Her friends were strewn about the place, some cradled up and others rolling around on the floor in pain. It happened all too fast and no one was ready for it, a textbook wall breach from behind. "He's upstairs!", a voice echoed over the smoke and settling dust. Her rifle lay a few feet as Shelley tried to reach for it, to no avail. Out of the corner of her eye she seen a shadow emerge from the smoke as she reaches for her sidearm. "No." The fox stopped just before the stairs, giving Shelley enough time to line up a shot. Bang!, he drops to the floor, fresh wound to the base of his neck. "No." Groggily Shelley rose to her feet as another soldier emerged. Bang! Her shot missed his head as the fox turned his attention to her, his rage flashing from his eyes as his rifle sung it's familiar tune. Stumbling backwards, Shelley dropped her pistol before crashing to the floor. A warmth filled Shelley's maw as she gazed up at the ceiling. There was no pain, no noise. Her life flashing before her eyes, ever so briefly. Memories of home, of her friends, but most of all her parents. How she missed them. Yet none of that mattered right now. The fox she fired at slowly came into view, his rifle pointed directly at her. Shelley's eyes veered away for a moment as she watched Stone forced down the stairs, his maw somewhat bloody and his hands bound behind him. The words he yelled fell upon deaf ears, both foxen and her own. "Such heroic nonsense." she heard the fox say as she returned his gaze, his words creeping out from behind a sinister smile. Then nothing but darkness and never ending silence as dead eyes stared into oblivion. "Building secured. Pack it up and return to base. We have the package." a passing soldier spoke, patting his friend on the back. "Kinda sad." he said. "She was kinda cute."
