Buff

By Luther

"Come one, come all!" The older brown goat said to the crowd. "Can you believe people actually used to sell things with that line?" He quickly switched his tone with a chuckle. "But now that I have your attention, I'd like to draw it to a new product that sits so conveniently next to me!"

It was the local fair . . . or maybe a festival. Whatever you wanted to call it: it was when everyone got together to celebrate the fact that they could get together and celebrate. No specific theme was needed, though often one was chosen. Maybe this time was cocoa related things or possibly crabs? Maybe it was something about races? There always seemed to be a difficult-to-understand announcer somewhere in the distance so something surely had to be happening.

But right now Tiger's attention was held by the words of the goat and those splashed on the bright canvas behind him. 'Buff!' it called itself. 'Not a supplement, just drink and enjoy results'. So something, not unlike soda, that advertised itself as being able to increase muscle mass had appeared. While not exactly traditional, it still attracted a healthy few from those looking to change their image to those bodybuilding enthusiasts. The feline found himself closer to the latter category and his interest piqued once more when he heard the goat ask for a volunteer to demonstrate. Demonstrate? Did it work that fast?

These sorts of gatherings always had plenty of things you could buy and a veritable marketplace always found a way to set itself up. Flowers, spiced foods, paintings, fine hats, belts and other apparel beckoned to mister and madam. Colorful balloons and pinwheels for the children each competed for their fickle attentions among other things. And then you'd find things stranger still, much like this.

The goat huffed in frustration and his moustache puffed up a bit. The caprine gentleman could see that there were wondering eyes but no immediate takers. So his gaze scanned the crowd until he found someone suitable, someone more likely to take him up on his offer. Finally he settled on Tiger, either by pure happenstance or a higher reason.

"How about you, sir? Come on up!" he said, pointing to the orange feline.

He had been considering it until now -but being placed on the spot, with eyes turning towards him ensured it. "Alright, sure!" he called back, voicing his cooperation to the showman's relief.

Now Tiger, this particular feline of eponymous nature, was by no means terribly small. He had a fine swimmer's build but left much to be wanting when it came to sheer muscle. He was toned but that was about it. He was well put-together but not buff in the body-builder sense. It was something he was always looking to change but had never met with much success. One might even go so far as to say that he was a bit scrawny, which was probably why the goat chose him: to create the biggest difference in the before and after. Perhaps this represented a chance for that to change?

"Thank you my good fellow! Now please, show these fine people what it can do," he nodded to the cat, now having to look up at him, as he pressed a metallic can of the stuff into his paw.

While one could tell such a product might have been marketed towards those who wished to build further upon what they already had, there was nothing wrong with someone wishing to get a start. That would be Tiger who, as previously mentioned, held nothing special in that department. He had nothing to lose, no reason to not give it a shot. What was the worst that could happen?

Yes, his rationalization for using this was beyond reproach. So why not? He was already up here. Down the hatch!

The first thing he noted about this supposed miracle drink is that it was fizzy, effervescence beyond the scope of normal carbonated sodas. It practically hissed up from the can at him as it travelled down his throat. It was difficult to distinguish a scent over that of the local flora incessantly perfuming the air. He couldn't pin the flavor either. It was sweet but seemed to change the more he focused on it, changing from regular cola, sliding along the scale of various berries, to something like root beer, and then something wholly unidentifiable. It was the gustatory equivalent of the flitting shadow or blurred image always on one's peripheral vision.

The bubbles raced to his head, as they are wont to do, like that of some champagne drink, and made it feel so light that it could lift right off his shoulders. They tickled inside and welled up, almost feeling like they could . . .

"HCK!"

It surprised him, but he caught himself and stifled an otherwise fully formed hiccup with a well applied hand clasping over his mouth. Curiously, he found himself wanting to giggle and fought the urge, the laughter itself rising up through him like the bubbles themselves.

It was its own strange sort of intoxicating, making him just a little numb to the world around him and so hyper-aware of his own body. He could feel every tingle, more tickling than painful pin-prick, spread along his sides and make a home there before moving on until it seemed to be covering his entire body. A blanketing warmth soon followed and wrapped him in effusive bliss that reached his very core and provoked an unwarranted yet not unwelcome happiness.

Then a keen sense of alertness struck him. Somewhere between mere liveliness and exhilaration, it was upon him faster than any energy drink had the right to be. But it was not that caffeinated, heart-pounding, wiry energy. It was something different.

At last and almost literally it surfaced. It felt like the gentle pressure caught inside of him was pushing back up along his arms, his legs, everywhere! And his muscle responded. Up it rose and out it thickened, slowly, slowly, then gaining speed. His already tight shirt became even more so and the bottom of it rode upwards along his stomach to show the definition there, abdominal likes little rocky hillocks framed by the orange fur of his sides.

Too little material was being asked to stretch too far and the shirt's penultimate compromise tore a length of itself in half, running deep in front of his chest to make way for the rising cream-colored pectorals that only widened the gap and worked to de-clothe him with their size and presence.

"Lookit that!" a smiling woman in the crowd called out. "He's getting' bigger! Looks like your stuff works!" Her voice carried a lustful enthusiasm and trailed in such a way that told of hopes to see more. By the looks of faces in the crowd, she was not the only one who approved. A multitude of eyes had turned to watch him and his miraculous change from skinny tiger to hulking creature, wholly unprepared for this as his shredding clothes might suggest. Well, at least it assured them that he wasn't some plant in the audience.

She would not be disappointed either. Though his tail curled about him almost nervously, he tried to beam a wide smile back in her direction, albeit with a healthy blush that was as stark against his cheeks as anything else. Though his tail grew a little longer as well, it had a harder and harder time reaching around his expanding form.

A lined plume of white fur erupted from his tearing shirt as it reached the end of its limit, popping the thing like a rubber band and sending the tatters flying out in front of him, prompting some to catch or avoid them. The bell he wore about his neck shook in response and rang out. The band that held it seemed to be the only thing he wore not immediately affected by the fact that his body absolutely refused to stop growing.

Tiger blinked and found himself wondering how far this would go and spoke up. "Ah, I don't think it's stopping. Is this normal?" he asked the goaty fellow, who struggled hard to pretend he didn't hear. The goat knew that it was only partly tested but was assured many times that it shouldn't be a problem. His silence in the matter was not exactly comforting to Tiger. Maybe he should have been more alarmed but he just couldn't find it in himself to care enough. It wasn't simply that this felt great but he also found himself the center of attention! It was enough to almost make him giggle again, which would be a strange sight coming from such a massive feline.

He was deep into it now, thoughts were a bit fuzzy and mind wandering back to the bubbliness of everything. But there was a strange sound that made its way to his awareness, almost like creaking, and for a short moment he thought it might he him! His eyes shot open in apprehension but his swiveling ears were able to so thankfully determine that it wasn't coming from his body.

In truth, he felt a little like one of those helium balloons being filled via tank just across the way. Up and out, up and out, forced bigger and bigger. Thankfully it came with none of that all-encompassing tightness that always drew it to a close. No, his inflation just kept going and going and, unlike the wispy balloons, he was being forced full of something more substantial than air: heavy and densely packed meat that piled atop itself.

Tiger found himself looking down, specifically further down, at everyone. It was something exaggerated by being up on stage, raised several more feet above everyone, but a greater difference was becoming apparent even to him. Among the elixir's other benefits came a boost in height and it didn't take long for both him and the goat to take note of it. Within moments, the sales-goat felt like he was standing at the base of a tree!

Between his legs, the feline felt his pride swelling in more ways than one as it also drew from the same pool and joined the rest of his growing body. His button fly popped off and flew into the crowd of people, revealing the top of his undergarment. The zipper burst next and out poured the blue fabric that just barely kept his maleness contained, peeking out and relieving pressure so slightly. The monster looked to be as thick as his arm, which was impressive considering how thick his arm was!

The enormous swell strained the fabric and the bounds of the common decency. The audience's rapt attention was changing to wonder if they were about to bear witness to -that- kind of show any moment. This was, of course, in addition those he drew in himself who secretly hoped just that would happen.

The tiger had to shuffle his feet, feeling his center of mass change dramatically as everything on him expanded outward. He stood at a wider posture, claws raking and tapping the wood to maintain his swiftly changing sense of balance. As he did, the swelling muscles shifted under his fur, granting the audience a prime view of their scale as well as the shaking and wobbling package still held tight by his briefs, threatening to tear out and burst obscenely into the open. It never quite did, but the teasing was tremendous -and possibly for the best since this was a public function, after all. Even still, it was more than enough to make a few onlookers practically swoon.

Another creaking sound, that same one, reached his ears and made them stand up. It was coming from beneath his feet! But no matter how much he tried to summon up whatever he needed to alert the goat next to him, he was arrested by just how great it all felt or by some odd thought that flooded in and replaced the concern. He felt so invincible so why should he care?

It was indeed the stage itself. The show-goat was so caught up in emphasizing the transformation to the crowd that he failed to hear the protesting floorboards. The big and heavy cat that first climbed up there had undergone the force multiplier change that sent his weight by muscle mass through the roof!

Through the floor was more apt. He felt one foot punch through the wooden boards and then the other as he fell through. Not immune to gravity, it would seem. He plunged below, creating a sizeable hole in the wooden platform, stopping when his feet hit the ground. Even then, it only came up to his waist and he was now at eye level with the goat, just further showing how amazingly tall he was.

When the rapid excitement passed, everyone could get a better look at him. His head looked relatively smaller, along with his telltale bell now mounted atop his frame, situated on a mountain of tiger with it as the peak. Below him were arrayed his muscles in both his arms and chest, each pulsing group in contesting one another for space, bunching and pushing up for all to see. And see they did! The rest of him was hidden beneath the stage but, considering there was no siding to the thing, he could easily be seen.

The entire process could have been described as watching baking bread rise in fast-motion, how it quickly spreads upward and fights for space. Strange but not exactly unsettling, just different and fascinating to the eye which was exactly what he had a crowd enraptured. They jumped back when the cat fell with a crash but soon moved back in once it was sure he was fine, most just assumed no harm could befall a behemoth like him.

"And there you go, folks!" the goat said, having regained his sense of composure. Tiger had almost forgotten that he was still behind him somewhere, having scattered to safety to play off the fact that his stage just collapsed. Hell, he turned it into a selling point.

"He goes from puny to huge and straight through the planks!" he continued. "What could be more real than that? Think of what it could do for some of you string-beans out there! Results might vary, of course." He tried to cover up that last bit with laughter but felt the need to add it in as he had yet to see anyone react so . . . much to the product. Well, different people experience different things.

As for Tiger? Well, it was goodbye shirt and almost goodbye to the pants. It looked like he was off to find some new and bigger clothes to cover himself just as soon as he got free. Not that anyone seemed to mind the view for the time being . . .
