_Really old story I started writing like... Two years ago while in high school. :/ I don't like the story too much, or I don't like this part of it. This story spurred my webcomic, but I restarted that, changing the beginning. All the characters are mine, and though it seems like they are human, it is a lie. They disguise themselves as humans, but that isn't the reality. Oh yeah, this chapter isn't finished. :/ I have it written out, but I've been too damn lazy to type it, considering the chapter is like 22 pages. >.>; I hate school things. What the fuck poessed me to write it in school? Gah~!

P.S. Rei and Zero are the same person. xD If there are spelling mistakes, then sorry. :/ Wordpad sucks. This isn't even half of the chapter. :/

Long summary: The year is 2012, and genetic testing is at its peak. For years, scientists have been trying to create a perfect human, by disposing of all unwanted traits and genes. One day, however, in a genetic test, the scientists had discovered a person with twenty-five chromosomes! This person had no physical or internal mutations, and upon studying other people, they discovered that this was actually common. The scientists labeled these people "demonic offspring", for these chromosomes held traits for abhuman features. In the past, both humans and demons lived in the same world. Though in the end, the demons became human, but their genes kept the abhuman features. Mainly, scientists feared that the demon genes would awaken, but could they honestly really kill that many people? The scientists released their findings, most people kinda ignored the thought, others rasing a commotion. Though, there are people with these genes that have awoken, and will stop at nothing to revive the demon blood line. Unfortunately, one of these great powers has yet to surface. People don't always resemble their counterparts; and when this one is found, problems arise. Old, rekindled feelings come back to life, bringing forth an unwanted (and almost forced) relationship. With all this in mind, maybe humanity is supposed to be imperfect?

Elegy 1: The Foreboding

Blood...

A deep reddish-blackish colored liquid ran down the creature's face. The elixir of color seemed to give off a deadly shine in the blue moonlight.

Pain...

An intoxicating feeling of pure, un-redefined anguish filling the figure's body. Slowly, hands now tainted with the inpurities of the red river were placed on each side of the figure's skull, its hair pressed strongly to the thin flesh that kept the skull in confinement. Within a few moments, the figure had opened its mouth. Using what little air that had snaked its way into the creature's lungs, a long, ear-piercing scream penetrated the seemingly still, unrelenting blue light filled night. A horrid sound of both flesh and hair tearing filled the empty space around the figure. More of the deep colored liquid ran down the already tarnished hands. The figure lowered its body to the ground, though the realization that this creature was in a pool of its own blood never occurred.

Tears...

Deep blood stained tears leaked uncontrollably from the creature's deep pools. The once sealed hue, was now open to revel in the world that had banished it. The liquid of life that the creature rested in was warm and strangely inviting. Though the severe pain never seemed to subside. Once more, taking in the fresh, blood-stained air, this creature released another pain filled cry. This time, it threw its head back, almost like calling to the heavens, the elixir immerging from the open wounds in its skull and from its pools. Slowly, timely, blood dripped from the newly grown horns, splashing into the puddle that seemed to stretch to all directions. The drops only disturbed the calm liquid for a moment, causing ripples to come forth, though dissipating once they came intact with the creature, allowing the liquid to become calm until it was disrupted again by another small drop.

The blue moon shone in full light, the light intense to the newly opened hue.

"...ei... Rei.... REI WAKE UP! NOW!"

The sound of a female screaming in his ear roused him from his whimsical dream. Slowly, his one hue opened, its haunting yellow color never seeming to be hidden by the long bangs that shadowed his face. A light moan of slight displeasure ran though his vocal cords and escaped his once sealed lips. Placing one his hands on his head for a moment, he dragged his nails down along the thin flesh against his skull, though not enough to tear the skin.

Moving to sit up, he released a tired yawn, thinking to himself. His deep raven black hair was all over the place, sticking out in random directions. Blinking his lone yellow pigmented hue, he canted his head to the side.

"When did mom get home?" He was more or less talking to himself at this given moment, but he seemed to shrug at the question. His parents had a tendency to appear and disappear without his notice.

Slowly, he slid his thin form to the end of his comfortable bed, placing his bare feet on the deep navy blue carpet that covered the floor from one wall to the next. Lightly, he walked though his near empty room to a small, wooden dresser at the other end. His room was filled with more negative space then positive, but he had a rather large room.

Reaching his destination, he bent his body at his hips, bending over. He wrapped his slinder digits around the knobs of the dresser, and slowly tugged on them. As the draw slid out along its metal track, he bent his arms at the elbows so his lone hue could look for where he had decided to shove his uniform for temporary purposes.

After rummaging though the drawer for a few moments, his yellow hue rested on that which he was searching for. Shoved into the farthest corner of the dresser were his pants and shirt. A heavy feeling of relief rushed over his form as he sighed, though an odd smile crept across his sharp features. He seemed to have a tendency to shove things in places and forget he put them there.

Placing the shirt and pants on the top of the dresser, he turned around on his heel quickly, pushing the drawer closed with his back. He took in a long breath as he moved his hands to the bottom of his night shirt. Wrapping his digits around the base of the baggy shirt, he slowly lifted them, causing the fabric to move with their motion. Pulling the shirt off of his head, he slid the sleeves down his arms and pulled it off. Looking over to the landury basket in one of the corners of his room, he moved his arm forward in an attempt to throw the shirt into it. The attempt failed. Instead of soaring though the air into the basket, the shirt unraveled itself and landed on the ground about a foot away from him. He only blinked and shrugged, laughing slightly to himself. He wasn't insanely big on sports, especially basketball.

He turned back to the dresser, slowly moving his hand to grab onto the undershirt. The undershirt was pure white, but it wouldn't be seen anyway. Lifting the shirt over his head, he pulled it down, letting it fall along his thin form. He took the other part of his school uniform and threw it on quickly. Adjusting the neck part so it would fall correctly, he released a light sigh. For some reason, he really didn't want to go to school today. He had a bad feeling about today, but tried to shrug it off as he placed his thumbs into the elastic of his pants. Pushing them down slowly, and stepping out of them, he lightly kicked the pants over to where his shirt had fallen. Once the pair was reunited, he grabbed onto the pants for his uniform. Bending over sightly and placing one leg though each leg hole, he slowly pulled the pants up. Once they came to his thin waist, he buttoned and zipped them.

Quickly troting over to his closet, he placed his slinder digits on the knob. Carefully, he turned the knob, the wheel and axel on the inside moving and releasing a light click. Once the sound of the click reached his ears, he pulled the door open, his lone yellow hue looking to the back of the door. Reaching up and grabbing one of the many belts that hung on the door, he pulled it down to his body level. Taking the belt, he forced the fabric though the five belt loops placed around his pants. When it had gone all around, he pushed the fabric though the buckel and tightened them to a comfortable tightness. Once the pants were firmly secured to his waist, he moved back over to his dresser. Grabbing the brush with the metal teeth, he moved it though his thick, black mane to get the knots out. Finally satisfied with his hair, he placed the brush down, and walked out his bedroom door. Closing the door as he exited, it seemed to slam into the wall quickly. Cringing from the sound of the door, he turned on his heel to look at it, and only shook his head.

In the corner of his ears, he could hear both his mother and father talking. "They are both home?" He seemed to question himself, but shrugged at the thought. His parents lived here too, actually, it was their house. Normally when one was home, the other wasn't too far behind.

Slowly walking down the steps, his lone yellow pigmented pool wondered over to the kitchen. He could see his father and mother sitting down for breakfast. Walking past them, he came to the door, turned the knob, and opened it gradually. Turning quickly, he reached down to grab his backpack and put on his shoes. When he was done, he proceeded to walk out the door, but not before a warm hand grabbed his shoulder.

"Rei, where are you going so early, and what about breakfast?"

The sound of the female's voice reached his ears, as he turned his head slowly to look at the speaker. She had dark, black hair, and emotionless black eyes. Her face did not reflect her age as well as her eyes did. She wore a big, baggy shirt and a pair of loose-fitting pants. Heaving a sigh, he shook his head.

"I'm going to school, remember? And no, I'm really not hungry, I feel kinda sick... So, I think I'ma just go. Later." He responded, and tried to take off, but she held him fast.

"Breakfast is good for you, Rei..."

"Mom, I'm going to be late, I don't have time right now, thanks though." When he felt his mother's grip loosen, he pulled away, running off. "Bye!"

Running until he reached the end of his parents property, he slowed down, breathing heavily. Looking around carefully, he started walking out, shaking his head to himself. Why does she always bother me? I am alone for most of the year, so why do they even try? It is so inferiating... Those thoughts ran though his head as he neared the school yard, the iron bars glistening in the raising morning sun. The lone hue skimmed the crowded school yard. Resting on a figure that he recognized, Rei smiled oddly and walked over to him. Stopping short, he tilted his head. His 'friend' was talking to someone Rei had never seen before. He blinked, just listening.

"So, what brings you here?" His friend asked the new comer, still not noticing Rei.

"My parents moved here. I had no choice." The new comer spoke, his voice was deep and kinda emotionless.

Rei watched his friend bow politely to the other. "I am Reige Nomacha. It is a pleasure to meet you." Reige stood back up straight, he was wearing the same outfit as Rei. Long strainds of thick, purple hair hung in his face and stuck out in random directions, though the length of his hair was restrained to a braid. One hue always seemed to be covered, but as Rei watched, Reige shifted his hair. His eyes were unique. One was a calming blue, the other was a light green. Under his blue hue was an odd marking that Reige said was a 'tattoo. Across his green hue, was a moon like 'tattoo'.

"Ah." The other said, returning Reige's gesture, with more grace. "I am Shiki Kurofuji." That was all he said, and his purple hue rested on Rei. The one called 'Shiki' stood taller then Rei, for Rei was about five foot seven. He too, wore the school's uniform, but on his arms he had long gloves. They were split in the middle with fishnet, and looked around his middle finger. He, as well, had tattoos on his face, though the oddest one was under his purple hue. The tattoo resembled that of a symbol of the ancient Egyptians. His other hue was yellow, and it gleamed with an unknown emotion. He had long, white hair tipped in purple. His hues locked on Rei's, and Rei heard Shiki gasp.

"Oh my God..." Shiki said, after a moment. "I have finally found you!"

Rei learned that Shiki was talking to him, as he pointed to himself, and shook his head. "Can I help you... Uhm... Shiki?" He kinda blinked blankly, canting his head.

"Shugo!" Rei heard Shiki cry, out of happiness. Shiki ran over to Rei, and embraced him tightly. Reige just kinda stood there, slightly bewildered. "Oh Shugo! I missed you soo much! I was afraid I would never see you again! Please, don't leave me again... Please... Shugo..." Shiki reached his head down, pressing his lips passionately against Rei's. Rei was shocked, and so was Reige. Everyone in the school yard was staring at them, whispers occupying the negative space. There would be lots of rumors after this.

Rei pulled away quickly, glaring at Shiki. Deep anger and hatred burned in that lone pool. "Shugo? Who the hell is Shugo?!" Reige came up, separating Rei and Shiki. "Don't touch me, you queer! How many times do I have to tell you people that I don't swing that way?! I hate you mother fucking queers! God damn!" Rei stomped off, but not before punching Shiki in the torso. The blow didn't faze Shiki, but it made Rei feel better. Reige came up next to Shiki, and just started laughing. Shiki, on the other hand, was confused to no bounds.

"Awesome, Shiki, awesome! But..." Reige paused for a moment, thinking of how to approach this. "Uhm... Shugo isn't here... I'm sorry, I... I haven't been able to find him..." He stopped, waiting for Shiki to absorb the information.

"Shugo..." Shiki said in a low, kinda saddened voice. "After all these years... I thought I had finally found you..."

"No..." Reige shook his head. "That is Zero, he isn't Shugo. I should know that better then anyone else."

"You're right, I suppose. Shugo would have remembered me... That, and he doesn't have any of Shugo's beautiful markings. I miss him..."

"Me too, it's not the same without his random spazzes..." Reige sighed lightly, then he spotted Rei running back towards him. As Rei neared, he ignored Shiki and walked straight up to Reige. "What's wrong, Zero?"

"Reige! I forgot to tell you! I had this strange dream last night..." Rei looked to him, then around the area.

"If you had one of them 'gay dreams', or if you had a 'wet dream', I'm sorry Zero, but I really don't want to hear about that...-"

"No!" Rei cut in, before Reige could finish. "It wasn't anything like that! And I haven't had a 'gay dream' since that one time..." Rei looked down for a moment, then looked back to Reige. "But, that's not the point! Death, Reige, death..." Just as Rei said that, the school bell rang out, signaling the start of the school day. Rei cursed lightly, he really didn't want to go to school, and it wasn't too late to skip out. He turned to the gates, and was about to run toward them, but someone grabbed him.

"Where do you think you are going?" Reige grinned to him as he slowly begain to drag Rei toward the school building.

"Reige! Let go of me! I don't want to go to school today! You can't make me! Nuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!" Rei's pleas went unanswered, as he was forcefully dragged into the school building.

"Whoa, Zero... You of all people had a 'gay dream'?" Reige blinked, as he and Rei walked though the hallways. "That is odd. You are like... One of the straightest people I know... Then again, most people in this school are straight..."

"Reige, when I had that dream... It wasn't me. It was someone who looked like me, and I didn't recognize the other person..." Rei responded, trying to make it like he wasn't queer like Shiki. "Your supposed to be straight. It is against the Bible to love a member of the same sex..."

"That book is a lie, Zero, I've told you that before. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with loving a member of the same gender..." Reige slowly shook his head side to side, sighing lightly. He will never understand... Were the words that ran though his head, but then, something hit him. "If it wasn't you, then who was it, Zero?"

Rei blinked for a moment, then quickly shrugged his shoulders. "Reige, if I knew who it was, it wouldn't bother me so much. If I knew who any of them were, I'd be content. They both looked human, but... They also looked like animals. So I don't know." He looked to Reige seriously for a moment. "Reige... Do you love anyone? I've known you for as long as I care to remember, but you have never mentioned anyone that you actually care about in that manner..."

"Zero, the person I love... Will... Never love me back..." Rei watched as a painful expression crossed Reige's features. That kinda made Rei uncomfortable, Reige was hardly ever sad.

"Reige?" Rei said, after a long moment. "Whom is it that you love? Who is this one who will never love you back?"

"What if I said, that I loved you, Zero, then what would you do?" Reige slowly placed his face close to Rei's, and odd grin on his face.

"This..." Reige heard a voice reply. He felt arms wrap around his neck, but were they Rei's? They couldn't have been. Rei never touched him. "Reige..." The voice continued. He was looking at Rei's body, but Rei wasn't in it. "Have you always loved me? I shouldn't be so shocked, all things considered. Actually, I am quite flattered, Reige!" He watched as the figure reached up and kissed him lightly. When the other pulled away, a large grin was on his face. "Mmmm... Reige, you haven't changed at all, have you?"

Reige looked to the creature in disbelief. They were lucky that they just happened to be located at a normally abandoned part of the school, so no one would see them. "Zero?... No... You're not Zero... Then, who are you? You look like Zero, but you don't act like him... Zero would never come onto me like that... Not even in my wildest dreams..."

"Dreams come true sometimes, Reige. Did you want me that bad that you were willing to settle for Rei?"

"Zero? Where is Zero? What did you do with him?! Who are you?!" Reige was getting fusterated.

"I'm hurt..." He slowly moved his right had up to grab at his chest where his heart was located. "All those years we spent together and you don't even remember me, Reige? That is painful... One of the only people you cared about..." The creature looked down, sighing sadly.

"It can't be..." Reige said after a moment, taking a small step back. "You can't be him..."

"Be whom, Reige?" The creature asked, walking toward Reige with a malicious grin on his features.

Reige shook his head as he stepped back, but his retreat was short lived. He had his back against a wall within moments, and he watches as the other approched him ever so slowly, as if prolonging the inevitable.

The other was upon him now, and Reige was looking down to him. He almost could have sworn he saw a glimmer of purple from where his right hue would be located. But, that was impossible. Rei's right hue had been damaged beyond repair so many years ago. Oddly, Reige was taller than the one whom now occupied Rei's body. A hand rested flat on the wall on either side of Reige, and Reige gulped slightly. "We are in school, you know!" Reige said loudly, obviously trying to get someone's attention.

"That is enough!" An angry voice yelled through the hall at them, and the demon looked to the speaker.

"Shiki! That demon took over Rei's body! You have to stop him, you are the only one who can!" Reige bent down, and made an escape from under the demon's arms.
