#1 of Spyro and Cynder; A New Beginning

...I love you...

Those were the last words Spyro heard before he unleashed his power, amplified by the purple crystal he and Cynder stood on. He stared lovingly at Cynder as the power enveloped them and his whole world turned white, and then absolute dark. As dark as Cynder was when she was taken over by Malefor those few short minutes before her love broke his hold over her. "I'm sorry, Cynder. I wish I had more time...to express...my love...

Elsewhere, on a plane of time...

"What of Spyro? Is he..?" Ignitus asked the Chronicler.

"Every time a dragon dies, a new page is written in this book, but try as I might I can't find him. But I will now give this honor to you Ignitus, so that you may record what happens in this new era," replies the Chronicler as he disappears.

Ignitus receives his outfit and his scales turn to an icy blue. He walked up to the book and began to flip it's pages. "Now, young dragon, where might you be...?"

"Spyro...wake up..." What was that? Who was saying that? He can't wake up, for surely he died and became a part of nature like Ignitus had told him.

"Spyro...wake up." The voice sounded familiar but maybe it was just a memory fading away. "Damn it Spyro!...Get up!"

Suddenly he opened his eyes to see Cynder about to swipe him with her claw. As he lifted his head, he quickly noticed the look of sadness, fear, and wet marks of her tears that were quickly replaced by joy and happiness as Cynder saw that he had woken up. She then jumped on him knocking him on his back as she cried, hugged, and nuzzled Spyro. At first he was surprised but then reveled in the fact that it didn't matter if he was alive or dead, as long as he had Cynder by his side, he would be the happiest dragon in life or death.

As Cynder calmed down, Spyro had to ask "Where are we?"

Cynder looked up with tears of joy still running down her face. "I...I...I don't know. Last thing I remember is saying I love you and the whole world going white and then it got dark. I was scared Spyro. I thought I had fallen back into the darkness and I would never see you again." When she said this she burst into tears again and cried for a few minutes. Spyro let her cry out her fears while he nuzzled her head and just held on to her.

As she calmed downed from her crying again, she mumbled, "I wonder what Sparx would say to see me like this."

Spyro chuckled and said, "He would never let you live it down. The once mighty dark dragon crying about being alone and some other such nonsense."

Cynder chuckled as well. "Yeah, he would, wouldn't he. But he's not here, and you are. And for that I am happy." She said as she once again tackled him.

They rolled and played and nuzzled for hours just as young lovers would, but another destiny was calling, and for those tied to destiny are forever bound to it.

When they both finally collapsed from exhaustion with Spyro lying down and Cynder laying her head across his did they finally get a good look at their surroundings. It was a populated wooded area and they happen to be in a small clearing with a small brook winding its way through the trees. As Spyro was scanning the wood line, he heard and felt something rumbling.

He tried to look up at Cynder and asked "Was that you?"

Cynder blushed as she responded, "Uh...yeah, I guess it has been a while since I had a bite to eat."

Spyro started to giggle until he felt his own stomach rumbling and then he was the one to blush as Cynder cocked her head to see his face and said "Looks like someone I know is also a bit famished."

Spyro blushed and said "Yes, well, let's get something to eat then."

Cynder climbed off of him and kissed him on the cheek. "Yes, let's find something to eat."

As Spyro and Cynder began to search the woods, unnoticed by them, they were being watched. Blue eyes watched as they left the clearing, apparently following some animal's tracks. He said some unfamiliar words and appeared almost out of thin air. He was a human. He appeared to be about 16, with brown hair and glasses on his nose. He appeared to be dressed in white robes. His face was covered by a cowl but his eyes seemed wise. He said some words again and blended into the woods to once again study the dragons.

Spyro happened to come across what looked like boar tracks and he and Cynder followed them til they came upon a family of boars entering another clearing but this one had a pond in the center. As most of the boars went to the pond to drink, one decided to stay near the woodline and lie down. Spyro thought it must be an older one but it sure looked big and fat. He motioned to Cynder that they would attack it together. Spyro moved to its right while Cynder moved to the left. Spyro took a moment and prayed that time would just hold still long enough for them to accomplish their job.

He then felt a sensation run through him and when he opened his eyes, everything seemed to be frozen. He gasped as he saw the sight. Cynder was in the air, pouncing on the boar. But the problem was that she wasn't moving. This was a familiar scene but he couldn't quite place it. He walked around Cynder gazing at her fabulous form and grace.

Then he remembered, this was the power of Dragon Time. After he had rescued Cynder and the temple came under attack by the Apes, the Chronicler awakened this power within him. He thought if only he had this power when they fought Malefor. Now that he had this power again, he might just have a little fun with it.

He walked up to the boar and promptly put it out of its misery. He then moved it off to the side where the other boars would not see it when time began again. He then placed himself in front of Cynder with his arms spread wide setting himself as the target of her pounce. He chuckled, it would be worth it to see the look on her face, the few seconds that it would be. Now how did I release it? "Dragon Time,...release?

Suddenly Cynder's face got bigger and then he was knocked on his back with Cynder's weight on top og him. He looked up at Cynder as she laid on top of him flabbergasted. "Huh?... What?... Where?... the boar?... When?" She glared at him with her beautiful emerald eyes. Spyro felt as though he would fall into them, god he would never get tired of those eyes.

"Alright you purple thing, what did you do, how did you do it, and should I tickle you to death right here, right now? Spyro felt a claw start working its way to his belly.

"I discovered one of my other powers which I used on that night I became Dark Spyro, the night the mountain was falling in on us." Cynder worked her rear claw right at the crook where arm and ribs meet.

"Yes ok, so what is this power? Lightning speed? Time? Move objects with your mind? Come on, speak up, or soon you won't be able to speak at all." She gave him a mischievous grin.

Spyro gulped. "Time, Cynder, time. It's called Dragon Time. I could do it for only a short amount of time 3 years ago. But it seems that since my other powers have become stronger, so did Dragon Time."

She gave him a somber look, which suddenly broke into a grin as she started her torture on him. Spyro broke out laughing. "HAHAHAHAhaha.......stop....heheheheh....stop Cynder.....can't breathe...." Cynder laughed.

"Oh, you're not getting off that easy, you handsome dragon." She continued her assault on Spyro's tickle spots as she found them.

Once again blue eyes watched them and almost burst out laughing himself. He had never read about dragons that acted such as these two. All the stories told about fire breathing, maiden snatching, hoard collecting behemoths who would scorch anything that came into their lair. And the people who told the stories made humans into shining knights who were really nothing but drunken fools telling tall tales. He wished he could understand them. As much as he tried he could not cast a spell which let him understand their language. As friendly as these dragons were to each other, would they accept him, a human who could not speak with them?

As he wondered how to approach them, a nagging feeling began to get the better of him. Then he remembered he had cast a spell that would let him know if any other humans were in the immediate area. He probed with his mind and found another human, a hunter it seemed...and he spotted the dragons! He was arming his bow with an arrow. He was across the clearing having the advantage of surprise. The dragons would never see it coming before it was too late!

As Cynder let up on her torture, and Spyro began to breathe again, they got up and was heading toward the boar when Spyro felt a tingling sensation along his skin, he then appeared behind a creature who wore a white fabric of some sort. The creature turned to him and put a finger to his lips and held both hands up. He then held the flat of his hand toward him. Spyro guess this creature was telling him to be quiet, he had no weapons, and to stay put. Spyro turned and saw Cynder about to pounce on him, Spyro quickly held up his paw and looked into her eyes. He motioned her to stay still and that they should watch before acting.

After hopefully getting his message across to the young purple dragon, he turned back to where they were. He had set up an illusion to make the hunter think he had hit one of them and that the dragons limped back into the cover of the trees. He was waiting for the hunter to give chase, then he would give the hunter a tall tale to tell. The hunter approached the spot where the dragons had "limped" into the forest. He moved a rock to trip the hunter, and as the hunter fell flat on his face, he weaved together large versions of the two dragons that would appear to be standing over him.

When the hunter got up mumbling about something, his eyes got as wide as saucer disks when he saw the "dragons". He made the Spyro version puff out his chest and smoke come out of his nostrils. He made the Cynder version glare fiercely at the hunter and swing her tail in an agitated way.

Spyro was astonished at the dragons the creature set before another creature. It was a larger him, about elder dragon size, but he didn't look older. And the Cynder looked her like herself, just bigger, not like when she was made into an adult by Malefor. What was this creature that could make larger version of himself and Cynder? He wanted to learn more about this creature.

Blue Eyes laughed to himself. Ok, now it was time to send him on his way he thought. He made Spyro roar out some flames that should have set the trees above them on fire, but he doubted the hunter would notice that. He then made Cynder let out a mighty roar which only he would hear, and made her slash her claws right in front of his face.

The hunter at this point was breaking down, he dropped his bow and got on his knees in a prayer posture, muttering something he could not hear. He made Spyro look down on the hunter and say I a deep booming voice "Leave and never return! If I see you or any of your kind here again, I will scorch you and your homeland till nothing remains!"

Cynder then looked down on him and said in a feminine but still booming voice, "But before he burns you to a crisp, I will use you as a scratching post. So I suggest it best that you leave and never speak a word of this, to anyone! Do we make ourselves clear?" The hunter nodded his head vigorously never looking at the dragons, too afraid to do so.

"Now leave! Before I decide to make you into my lunch!" The hunter quickly got up and ran as fast as he possibly could. The hunter was quickly out of sight as he ran straight across the clearing into the woodline. Blue Eyes with a wave sent the illusions away. He was about to turn around when a weight pounced on his back and trapped him on his stomach. He saw the female dragon's face come into view over his shoulder and she looked mighty angry!

He saw something drip from her mouth and saw it hit the grass, and almost instantly the grass turned brown where the drip had hit it. His eyes got wide. That had to be acid or poison of some kind, certainly enough to kill him if she so chose.

Spyro called out "Cynder what are you doing?"

She turned her head but kept her weight on the creature. "Spyro, you just saw how he got rid of those 2 dragons with a wave of his hand. What if he does that to us?"

"Cynder I believe there was a reason why he did what he did." He noticed the creature pointing to something in the area Spyro and Cynder were before they appeared behind the creature. Spyro walked over and saw what the creature was pointing at. An arrow was lodged in the ground where his prints finished. Spyro plucked the arrow from the ground and took it back to Cynder. He dropped it in front of the creature and Cynder.

"Cynder, this arrow was aimed at us, at me. The creature your threatening saved our lives. I think he would appreciate it if you got off of him." Cynder climbed off of the creature but she still did not trust him. She walked to Spyro and turned toward the creature, not letting it out of her sight.

Blue Eyes sat up and rubbed his neck. The dragons stared at him. Were they testing him? Questioning him? The dark black dragon had already attacked him once. But the purple one had trusted him. "Um, thank you, purple dragon."

Spyro perked up, he heard the creature say "Thank...u...ple...dragon." He looked at Cynder. She nodded, she had understood him too.

Spyro decided to try and speak back to him. "Your welcome, but who, and what are you?"

Blue Eyes was astonished. The dragons seemed to have understood him, and when the purple one spoke, he had made out "Welcome..." but the rest sounded garbled. Perhaps their language was not so foreign after all!
