Vivy and Crystal

A story I wrote for Vivy's origin on her neck long ago. Sadly, I can still see some errors and shompirasworld animated the story, which is ten times better than anything I'll ever do! So go see that instead of this piece of crap instead!

As the sun hovers over the middle of the sky, shining brightly on a street filled with small businesses and a fast food chain, a blue hedgehog with purple-tipped ears, white sneakers and a mauve turtleneck sweater treks down the sidewalk. She looks around, pushing her short, dark blue hair away with purple tips that match her ears. It is pretty rare for this hedgehog to be walking this far from the college, but since she got her work done early, she thought she deserved to have a nice and relaxing walk, greeting the inhabitants of this fair city. This is Vivy Hedgehog, a mild-mannered college student that prefers to be on the safe side. Today, however, she'll be taking a risk.

As she waves to a male fox in a business suit, she turns her head to the right. Vivy faces a pawn shop, but it seemed to have an eerie look to it. In fact, one could say it looked abandoned. Compared to the other businesses, this one sticks out like a patch of grass amongst snow. Although her mind implores her to keep moving, she decides to walk in, her curiosity increasing.

The inside of the pawn shop is just as ancient, dusty, and run-down like the outside. Vivy looks around to find a counter with a very dirty glass case and several tacky shelves. She notices one of the shelves has a DO NOT TOUCH sign nailed to the bottom. She looks around and sees a bunch of weird objects. They seem to be in shoddy cardboard boxes, but there is one with a description of sorts. Vivy picks it up and looks at it, but before she was going to read the paper, she heard a slam and looked at her left to see a cloaked figure of sorts.

"What the hell are you doing in here!?" Shouts the stranger, petrifying Vivy in fear. The apprehensive hedgehog didn't want to face trouble or worse...get arrested by the police! She runs away with the box, not thinking twice about putting it back on the shelf as the stranger shouts about how much he hates hedgehogs.

Vivy keeps running and running down the sidewalk and across streets until she stops at a four-way intersection five blocks down, panting. As she looks at her hands, she realizes that she accidentally stole from a store! Now she's really freaked out! She calms herself with a few deep breaths and thinks. She could return the box, but judging from the owner, he might not hesitate to call the police. He could be calling them right now. Vivy holds the box close to her and decides to walk back to her apartment instead, not risking meeting him again.

After walking six more blocks and two flights of stairs, she finally returns home, exhausted from fear and distance. Vivy sits down with the package and paper on her lap. She picks up the paper and reads it. The paper is pretty smudged and it is hard to make out the text, but inside the box is a prototype of sorts and it grants immortality. "You won't need a reason to eat or sleep again!" It claims.

Vivy opens the box and finds a silver metal choker inside. She examines it, finding the words "Roboticizer" on it. Vivy gets up with the choker in hand and faces a mirror hanging in the living room. She folds the neck of her turtleneck and puts it on, thinking there was nothing out of the ordinary. She thinks it look okay at best. Suddenly, Vivy hears some beeping and feels the collar heat up. She yells at the hot pain until the collar falls off into the floor. She looks at the mirror again and sees that her neck has some weird grooves. Not only that, she touches it and it felt dry.

Suddenly, the bedroom door opens and a female fox with a white t-shirt and tube socks pops out of the bedroom, yawning. Her burgundy hair droops down to her shoulders as she rubs her green eyes. "Vivy," she speaks, "Why are you yelling? I was having the nicest dream..."

Vivy turned to face the fox and replies, "Oh, uh, nothing Crystal. Nothing at all." "Really?" Crystal then walks ahead and finds the collar on the floor. She picks it up and examines it. "This doesn't seem like nothing to me," says Crystal, "Where did you get this?"

Vivy sighs, "Well...to make a long story short, I was talking a walk to clear my head and I got into this pawn shop, right? I walked inside and saw a bunch of old dusty things. Suddenly, this strange person in a cloak yelled at me and I freaked out and ran with this choker. I decided to try it on and it suddenly beeped and burned my neck." Vivy points at her neck while Crystal tries on the collar. Vivy is about to command Crystal to take it off, but nothing happened.

"It isn't beeping or heating up at all," says Crystal, taking off the collar and placing it on the coffee table, "Lemme check out your neck."

Vivy is a little weary about that, but she eventually nodded in agreement. Crystal feels around her grooves, noticing how dry it is compared to the rest of her fur. Vivy feels very uncomfortable at Crystal feeling her neck as if she was a statue. Suddenly, a click and a whoosh are heard and Vivy sees the floor suddenly get closer to her face until she hits it. Crystal gasps at the sight of her friend as her head is no longer on top of her neck, but on the floor! Vivy suddenly reaches up to rub her forehead in pain, but only feels air. She waves around frantically, rubbing her neck stump a bit to make sure if she is actually headless. After a minute of silence, the two girls speak.

"Holy crap!" Screams Vivy in shock. "Holy crap!" Screams Crystal in excitement.

Suddenly Crystal touches Vivy's new neck stump a little, confirming she is actually headless. Vivy yelps at Crystal's hands on her neck. Crystal kneels down near Vivy's head and picks her up, examining her head at all sides.

"Wow, this is sooooo cool!" Said Crystal, "Did the collar do this?" Vivy's hands curled up into fists. "I don't know!" She yells back, "Stop gawking at me and...well, do something!"

"Okay, Vee-vee. Just hold on and let me think. Hmm..." While Crystal thinks about a solution, Vivy seems worried about the possibility of her head never getting back on again. She could never go into public and probably finish college online. After three minutes of cognation, Crystal then simply places Vivy's head back on her neck, adjusting it carefully. Vivy blinks at her idea.

"Oh, come on, Crystal!" She pouts, "How is just putting me back on supposed to..."

Soon, another whoosh and click emits from Vivy's neck and Crystal lets go. Vivy is whole once more. Vivy feels her head and turns her neck to check if it's staying on. The head is still there as if it never detached from her body.

"...oh thank heavens," she sighed, rubbing her temple with two fingers. Crystal picks up the collar and analyzes it once more. She then says, "Man, I wish this stupid thing wasn't broken. I want to have a detachable head too!" "...why would you want that?" Questions Vivy. ?"Because it's awesome! And I managed to attach you back on, so I can still walk around in public!" "Not with these marks on here." "Then I'll wear a turtleneck like you!" "Crystal..." "Okay, okay. Let's just go to this shop you were talking about and see if the guy there will fix it." "No. Way. That guy is angry as heck! I am not meeting him again!" "Well, it's either that or live with your new neck. Your choice, Vee-vee." "...okay, let's go."

Crystal quickly runs back into her room and rummages around as Vivy sits down on the couch and waits for her. She looks at the clock, seeing the minute hand slowly tick away. Fifteen minutes later, Crystal finally emerges with red shoes and a matching jacket to cover up her white shirt. She smiles embarrassingly, as if apologizing for taking so long. Vivy shrugs and both girls walk out the door.

To their surprise, when they finally arrive at the pawn shop, there is a sign on the door that said "ON VACATION" and most of the items inside are removed. Vivy sighed at the sight.

"Well, that's just great!" She says, "Now I'm stuck with this stupid neck." "Hey, it isn't so bad!" Replies Crystal, "In fact, I think it's really neat." "Well, I don't...let's just go home and forget about this."

Crystal nods and follows Vivy home, eyeing at her new neck. She appears to be thinking something, which makes her smile deviously. Vivy notices her grin and promptly grabs her neck with her right hand, worried that this will not be the last time her head will detach again.
