of stone, water and air
one of two legends I created to help me with my current story.
in the early days of the earth, ocean sky and land were at peace, all with their own living creations. but nothing lasts forever, and ocean grew envious of land. ocean schemed and searched for a way to take over land's place on the earth for many months before finally settling on a plan.
ocean told both land and sky they were going to betray the other when they were not looking. ocean wanted land to fight sky, planning to finish off the victor and take both territories for itself. at first the plan worked, land spewed molten rock into sky, and sky uprooted whole forests. the whole time, ocean refused to take sides.
they noticed this however and stopped the conflict. when ocean asked why they stopped, ocean let loose more words than it should have. with the unintentional confession from ocean, land and sky turned their wrath to the seas. lava cooled on the beaches, pushing ocean back as water evaporated from its surface to join sky in the form of clouds. three months passed and ocean was nearly defeated.
land and sky felt pity for ocean and stopped their assault. so that they would never forget oceans betrayal they made a new being. one that had the wisdom of sky and the patience of land. one that could fly with the speed of the wind, and walk with the strength of stone. thus, dragons were born.
