#21 of Journey of the Dark Crystal

Avila stood at the flying porch at the cave opening, watching the Dark city. She watched with eagerness, knowing that the same festival she once saw two years ago was on again. Despite of her inversed contrast, she still wanted to go, at least with Cynder. Far out, she saw the Light city bordering the dark one as two twin cities, having a lovely life beside each other. From afar she saw many dragons, both colored and dark, covering the sky. She grinned to herself, and thus she knew her job in the world was done.

It had been two years since she lost her beloved. Seraphor was the first and the only dragon she would knew never cheat on her. But then, she knew one day, she must let him go, though not now, and of course she knew Seraphor would never cheat on her, too. He's the only known silver red in the world, and Avila was responsible for the race's near-extinction. At least, if he was extinct, he would have lived happy.

Thinking about herself, though she knew her life had been timed, she had no remorse. She knew her compensation of harnessing one of the deadliest forces in the world, but of course it was worth it, for her punishment on annihilating a race is very severe. At least, if she had to die, she would be in peace.

"Hey, Vila. Eager to see the festival again? This is the first fest after the sides unite."

Coraero was behind Avila, where she found out that the dragon had found a mate.

"Cory...congrats."

"Oh...she's an old love. I rekindled our flames again. I have three eggs, you see, and when they hatch, I'll be a father. Jonathan had become a father a year ago, so why can't I?"

"You sure you want to retire?"

"Not really. Being the Dark Sentinel's leader is permanent until death. Like Pertyiviid. He had become the elder dragon for the Light Dragons for 200 years straight! I want to outlive his command."

"Oh...I'll be sure you'll get that."

"Anyway, Cynder is looking for you. She said she have something to tell you."

"Where?"

"By the lake."

Avila slowly walked to the lake, knowing that she was still not strong enough to run. She went through the dark cave, only dimly illuminated. She was curious on what Cynder wanted to tell her, but she believed it was something good.

Reaching the dark lake, she found both dragonesses waiting for her. Yrelka was beside the dragoness she wanted to find, and of course Cynder was standing very near to the lake, yawning.

"I thought you never came, Avila," said Cynder with a grin. "Here, I have something to show you. Look into the lake."

Avila was more curious than aware, and when she saw it, she suddenly saw Seraphor with another purple dragon, smiling onto each other while she watched their daily routine. She saw the silver red danced with a silly style, while vomiting because of drinking a coconut. She also saw the blue sea of Dragon Realm from the holographic projection, and of course she mainly saw Seraphor's smile and genuine laugh with his new friends. She unknowingly shed tears on the projection, as she finally could see Seraphor, the one she loved most, after two years without with him.

"So that's Spyro's counterpart. He looks pretty damn shiny there. Damn sexy, too. Well, girl, that's your mate, alright."

"Really now...it's so near, yet so far away," said Avila while trying to hold her precious tears. "I...I..."

"The projection was imbued with dimensional magic, allowing you to find your mate. He's not very far away, but I can't say you will meet him sooner or after."

"That's alright. At least he's happy."

"Yeah...happy with Spyro, that is."

Avila watched on Seraphor's life for a moment before she asked Yrelka to close the projection, which she did. After seeing the projection, she now knew about her silver red's fate, and now she vowed to find a way to meet her lover, even if it took forever or after she died.

It was the finest day after all.
