#19 of Journey of the Dark Crystal

Last Dark Madness

Coraero couldn't react much when his leg was pierced by Baritgetv's spike. He and the rest of his dragon comrades got numbed by the bristled dragon, as if there was poison inside each of the spikes. It was numbing his body, yet he didn't lose consciousness. His hope was entirely given to the demonic dragon that saved him.

Yorloka in turn got many helps from the spirits helping him. Taking care of the spirits killed because of the dark sacrifice for him proved useful as they also respected him as their master. The spikes couldn't even hurt him while he attacked Baritgetv back.

"It's a shame, really! We've just met and we became enemies so suddenly!" exclaimed Baritgetv while trying to pounce Yorloka, which the demon dragon held the attack with his front leg.

"I think there's a better explanation on why you turn on your comrades, spiky!"

"Then why are you on their side?! You're a demon, goddamn it! You're supposed to be their enemies!"

Yorloka's immense demonic strength made him able to hurl Baritgetv with just one front leg, and throwing the dragon outside, landing to the forest below.

"It's my rights!"

Baritgetv that didn't have wings quickly ran towards the lake, where Yorloka smiled. He followed the dragon to the lake, but he suddenly realized the spirits ran from him.

"Hey! That's your home!"

"The place is too foul," said one dismembered voice, before some auras faded away. Yorloka turned his gaze to the lake and saw many revelations at once.

First, he didn't realize that there was an anti-demon device that stopped his power, second, there were water dragons hiding inside the lake, and third, Yrelka was their hostage, subdued by three big dragons.

As Yorloka walked, Baritgetv shot one of his spikes to the demon, but his reaction suddenly got sharpened and he caught it with his hand-like paws, but he didn't have time to catch another and was forced to dodge it.

"Heh, I thought you wouldn't mind having your friend killed, seeing that you're an emotionless demon," said Baritgetv while putting his paw to Yrelka. The pressure given to the claw made Yrelka's slender body got pushed to the ground, and he gradually increased the weight of the press.

"If you don't mind seeing this bitch got killed, Yorloka," said Baritgetv. "You can try to kill all of the water dragons present while I press a big spike to her skull. Or, if you really value her life, come to me, and got outnumbered without your souls."

Yorloka hesitated for a moment before he walked slowly to the water dragons. The dragons were in fact bigger than him, and of course a one hit could make considerable injury although he was a demon. He was at the disadvantage, though. Yrelka became a hostage, he was powerless, and with two dragons ready to make something worse than bruises, he made a decision, but he really hated it.

"Damn, there are no other choices, huh?" he said to himself. "In fact, it won't be a secret for too long."

"Hmmm? You have something in mind? Or, have you made your decision?"

"Yeah, actually...do you know about my own story?"

"Why do you talk about it here, dragon?"

"I actually don't like the part when I was called a school of mutated fish, but there's one thing for sure that's true," he said while making a low growl. "There's a reason why you don't want to eat the fish here, and that reason...is because of Aquila."

"Aquila?"

Yorloka smirked, and then he jumped to the lake. The lake then glowed bright for a while before dimming. Then, suddenly, there was a bubble coming out from the lake, and the dragon emerged from the lake, and the dragons there became startled by the appearance of a giant shadow, and then the water dragons became scared before trying to run.

Before them, a giant shark-like creature loomed in front of them, where they all became scared as it opened its yellow eyes. The thing that made it scary was not because of its appearance, but because of the fact that many souls were inside its mouth. It wasn't like any creatures Baritgetv ever knew.

"That's cheating! Anyway, it's a demon, right?! How can it go inside the barrier?!"

"Simple, whelpling," said Yorloka. "Does your mother ever told you not to dive into a dark lake? A dragon is Aquila's food, and he ate the souls of unfortunate dragons that dared to take their territory. The lake is his domain, not mine. Your anti-demon device is useless against him because...well, he's too powerful, that's all."

"This...this abomination can't be real!"

"Yeah, of course it's not real." This answer startled them. "Aquila is nothing but a nightmare. Let me tell you a secret, buddy. Aquila didn't react to Avila and other dragons because they didn't have any fear, since it fed into fear. Of course, Avila in turn scared it. Now, because there are no souls in the lake, Aquila wondered where its prisoners had gone. I merely called him and fed a fear: yours."

"This is not right! You demons are only myths!"

"Baritgetv, son...that's why you never pick a fight with a demon dragon and live to tell about it."

As it happened...the nightmare consumed Baritgetv's body, and tried to drag the dragon to the lake. He tried to grope for land, but then Yorloka suddenly was in front of his eyes, and then Baritgetv saw his red eyes swirled in front of him before he hallucinated being dragged by meat hooks into the soul-infested lake, where he went into the water, and never resurfaced.

Yrelka then stood and said, "That pet of yours is...remarkable. An Old World Soul Eater is never fond of dragons. How did you tame it?"

"It's a very long story. He's an old friend, not a pet, okay?"

"Suit yourself. What did you do to the crazy bastard?"

"It's a simple thing. I drowned him."

"I mean, what after that?"

Yorloka didn't reply much, but then he said, "Just promise me...if you ever get back to the Old World don't tell any beings about Aquila."

"I can't guarantee that, but I'll try, brother."

"Okay, while you're guarding the forest and extracting mortal's fear, I left my guard at the lake to explore the Old World with Sannourah, before I stumbled upon the then-young Aquila. It is true Soul Eaters didn't like dragons, and while it was young it tried to kill Sannourah many times. Our journey came to an end when we reached our home, but of course I couldn't leave the Soul Eater behind, right?"

"So that's why Master wondered where you went! He thought you betrayed him!"

"It was out of regulation that a demon dragon serving under him would take a Soul Eater as a pet. I didn't want to burden Sannourah on my decision helping the nearly extinct race, so I..."

The dragon then showed something in his claw, and Yrelka gasped. The scent of it was still fresh, as if Yorloka had done it recently.

"W...what the hell are you doing to the poor soul?!"

Silence took the demon dragon and he hid was he had shown to his sister. He then walked to the water and growled a little while Aquila burst out from the water, making a weird song-like sound. He patted the giant beast before it went down to the deep water, presumably trying to devour Baritgetv's remains.

"Can you help me find the device inhibiting our powers?" said Yorloka. "Aquila doesn't like surface dragons."

While both of them were trying to find the device, Avila swooped down near the lake and used her wind to climb upward after being pushed down by Fenrico's fire. Fenrico, while always being the dragon's informant, was very skilled in aerial combat, especially after using his darkness which could hold Avila's own darkness. Both used sharpened claws as weapons, and as the result each dragons got cuts everywhere.

Fenrico followed Avila straight, but the smaller dragoness managed to turn her body before hitting Fenrico's fire ball and used her wind to try to cut Fenrico. The black dragon just casually made a flap that made the wind disappear.

"You can't even defeat me, Avila, so stop! Your wind is useless against fire and your darkness is weak!"

"We're not fighting, Fenrico! Why are you betraying us?!"

Fenrico didn't reply and lunged forward with his wings. He caught Avila and pushed her to the ground near the lake, almost hitting Yrelka that was trying to find the anti-demon device. The force of the fall caused Avila to lose her balance as dizziness caught her when she tried to stand up. Fenrico then pulled Avila's tail with his claw and threw her to the lake, where he proceeded to try to drown her.

Avila started to lose her consciousness when she struggled for air, before she saw Yorloka trying to help her. She broke free from Fenrico's grasp when Yorloka slashed his front leg. The black dragoness didn't relent. She tried to turn her body and made a splash with her wind, stunning Fenrico. Yorloka tried to drown him but the black dragon was strong enough to claw the demon dragon's leg with only a brute force. Fenrico then opened his wings and broke free from Yorloka's grasp and flew up roaring.

"Hey, Avila, don't attack him head-on or it's suicide for you!" said Yorloka while pulling Avila back to land.

"If I didn't do that I won't be able to hurt him enough!" replied Avila while coughing and cleaning her feathery wings. "He's still up there. Did you make any slash on him?"

"Why is that necessary?"

"I can't hurt him with darkness, but I still have a trump card."

"Anything you can do to finish him, just do it. He'll gonna pay with his life for trying to cut my hand off."

"Wait, you have hands?"

"We don't have time to explain to you that I'm a two-legged dragon and fighting the dark dragon at the same time! Distract him and I'll hurt him!"

Both dragons nodded to each other and opened their wings, while Yorloka flew behind Fenrico Avila made a wind cutter attack to Fenrico, which he easily deflected, but he had no time to attack his back as Yorloka held him and made more cuts on him. The black dragon was tough, though. He turned his head behind and breathed fresh jet of fire to Yorloka, stunning him and opened his legs apart, freeing him from the grasp.

"Like I said, Avila, I can never be attacked by your elements and his grasp," said Fenrico while watching Yorloka falling to the lake. "I've been trained specifically on combating dark-based dragons and aerial flanking."

"Training? Dragons train to fight?"

"Much like how you train your elements, we Light dragons anticipated the strong powers of the dark arts by training ourselves like humans. It's simple...just give a little compensation and you'll get what you get for vengeance."

"Vengeance?"

Fenrico became silent for a moment, before he turned his head down and said, "Only 5 decades ago, the Light came to realize that destroying the Dark permanently is impossible, given that they found many elements that could turn the tide of this war. One thing that we Lights lack was coordination. You see, Avila, confidence on technologies changed our hearts to the arrogant ones, seeing that we were winning while you lose grounds. Guess if Coraero heard this he would coordinate an attack that even our technology can't fight.

"The Light dragons knew this peril, yet their riders didn't care, even dumping the dragons over high-tech stuffs. Well, what did they get? Over a hundred of the humans got killed by what we knew the 'green forest tragedy'. They didn't care, though, and relied on their pitiful technology. That's why; our elder dragon gave a secret mission to me and Baritgetv to infiltrate the Dark Sentinel, by doing the only thing tabooed to us all."

"Let me guess...having the darkness element wasn't normal for a Light dragon."

"Yes...you're really very smart, Avila...too smart. The dark arts changed me into a dark dragon, permanently changing my elements and my scales black. I will never return to the Light, and of course I'll die as a Dark Sentinel member. I didn't know about the compensation, and I found this joy at heart...on seeing people die and stuff.... It all happened so fast I didn't...."

"Rico...there's one other you must know why dark dragons are special...even more special than a hybrid. Dark dragons had this curse called 'evil desire', where they would always be forced to make a vile decision. Either we perished because of that, or we endure them and live as proud dragons. Upon reaching this world I could see the dragons were all very kind from their heart, and I realize that in this world, like my eyes, the polarity had changed."

"So...what you're saying is..."

"Yeah...I thought you turned into a good dragon after you've changed into a dark. Guess I'm convinced that you're nothing but a vile dragon."

"I did this all for my father! Because of you all he died!"

"Then let me take you to the place where he is now!"

Avila concentrated her attacks on the one attack she used and learned. The attack that gave a gory finish...the Caris Cantem. She concentrated them to make a claw, then with a powerful willpower she lunged toward the dragon, eyes sharp. Fenrico had anticipated her, though, and made a flap of his leathery wings to the side. He forgot, though, that Avila amplified the attack and now she managed to land a gash on him. The dragon grimaced. Blood dripping down from his chest.

"Impressive. But that's not enough!"

"Actually, you're the one that's not enough."

Suddenly Fenrico felt a massive pain building up inside him. When he saw Avila made a toothy grin, he roared and exclaimed, "You bitch! What the fuck did you do to me?!"

"Simple...small cuts with little spike claws in you will finish you alright. You do know my appearance changed to that you really must fear, as it strikes you down like you're nothing."

"Ancestors..."

"Wish you luck, Fenrico. Give me my regards to my friends."

"Fuck!"

That was the last thing he said before his body blew up into a shower of blood. The shower of blood, followed by Fenrico's body parts and inner organs rained down to the lake, giving a massive ton of red dye to the lake, making it red. The surroundings were painted red, and as the onlookers watched, the saw a bloody Avila flew down and walked silently to the cave where it led to the Sentinel Caves. Yorloka wanted to congratulate her, but Yrelka stopped him.

"She's not going to be bothered, brother. You can see she's very much upset on what happened. I can't say the girl isn't feeling betrayed by her friend. Let her be. She had so much to endure on betrayal."

Yorloka hesitated for a moment, before turning his body back to the red blood lake.

"It must be hard," he thought. "It must be hard to kill a friend, even if that's her job."
