#3 of Hopeful Hearts

A new character is revealed, along with a small background... and a major truth is revealed.

Everyone shuffled about the classroom, looking for a seat next to their friends that shared the class with them. Lon made his way to the back of the class, where he placed his bag down beside a desk and made himself comfortable being alone in the back, observing the rest of the classroom. Talk of events that took place over the winter break filled the air of the classroom. Lon paid no mind to it all, holding his head in his hands as he waited for the class to start.

His wish came true, as a bell rang signalling for class to start. As the noise droned throughout the room, two students walked into the classroom, instantly making Lon look up and a smile spreading on his face. First through the door was Story, a somewhat tall husky that wore a black jacket with the hood concealing most all of his features, except for his bright blue eyes, which emitted a faint, spooky glow in the shadows of his hood. He quietly walked to the back of the class, no one noticing his appearance. Behind him was Star, a cheerful cat that smiled happily; she wore a long-sleeve floral shirt and a green skirt. As she scurried to catch up with Story to the back of the class, many students called out to her and waved. She returned the favor, smiling brightly and thanking them for taking their time to say hello. Story made himself comfortable in the seat right of Lon and Star directly in front of him.

Story turned to face Lon, a small grin showing his canine teeth growing on his face. "Well look here, it's my favorite Pangolin,"

Lon couldn't help but smile, then rubbed the scales on the back of his neck, blushing slightly. As he began to speak, a heavy accent rolled off his tongue. "Ah, that would be me. At your service sir,"

Star overheard their conversation and decided to join in. "Good to see we all have the same class first period, right? Get to talk with each other during this class. World History is no fun anyways."

Story rolled his eyes, uninterested in the class. "So much fun. Let's just get this school year over with, halfway done with it now."

"Oi, we still meeting up like always at the place?" Lon asked.

Story looked to Star, who gave a questioning look then nodded. "Of course we are, just like everyday,"

Lon threw up his hands in defense. "Okay, okay. I'll be there, just wanted to make sure-"

The sound of someone loudly clearing their throat cut all chattering in the room. A man stood tall at the front of the class, looking uninterested at the students that made their way into seats about the classroom. "Welcome class... I'm Mr. Joan..." he said, trailing off into a speech about the class.

As he went on, Lon began to drift away from the class and began to let his mind wonder. Memories suddenly flooded his mind of his past, what he has been through. He could still hear himself as a young child, crying out, screaming for her. Wandering aimlessly down the street, getting soaked from the tears from the clouds that ominously covered the sky. Tears warm against his cheeks as he looked about for her, even the slightest clue that she still could have been there. Worried and afraid, he stumbled across something else, the building that made him who he was today.

His memory of the building itself may had faded and crumpled away since that fateful day, but he could never forget the sign that stood tall over the grass drenched in rain outside that building. 'Hopeful Hearts Orphanage'.

Hopeful Hearts Orphanage.
