After a day of preparation Zach and his new partner headed out towards the farms below town. As they made their way down the path Zach couldn't help but stare at Zengs expression as well as the three scars on his chest.

"I got these from a Velocidrome in the jungle region, I was a rookie back then."

"Sorry! didn't mean to stare!"

"It's alright. Just be sure not to do it again rookie."

"Hey enough with the "rookie" crap! my name is Zach!!"

Surprisingly Zeng just kept on walking leaving him dumbfounded and further annoyed as he caught up to him in a flash and before long they came to the farms where a few of the herders looked worried.

"Are you the hunters we requested?"

"We are. What's the trouble?"

"Oh thank goodness! A pack of giaprey started coming down from the mountains and killing our livestock, just yesterday one of them almost got my children. You have to do something please!!"

"Leave it to us."

Zeng sounded so strict in his voice and yet a sense of caring could be detected as well and Zach was surprised thinking that Zeng would turn down the offer since the reward only offered 2000 zenny meaning he'd have to split it fifty fifty. After setting up camp near the foot of the mountain the hunters immediately equipped their gear, Zach of course used twin blades while Zeng carried a massive greatsword known as the Ravager Blade, When Zach first saw it the blade was completely dull with only a few holes in the middle but in one twist of the handle the holes fanned open into a row of razor sharp teeth.

The two quickly tracked down the predators near the summit of the mountain and took cover behind a ledge where a pack of giaprey were spotted, the beasts were like raptors crossed with pterodactyls, armed with razor sharp teeth and a killing claw on the talons and feet. The pack had been feasting on a recently killed popo allowing them to get closer and of course Zach was eager to get started.

"What are we waiting for? let's get em!"

"No! we need to find the pack leader. Hmm..."

Zeng was an experienced hunter and could tell none of these were the pack leader then out of the snow came a shriek that made the giaprey tremble and before them stood one twice their size with larger claws and a bigger crest on its head.

"That him?"

"Yup. The Giadrome."

Zeng carefully reached for his blade waiting for the right moment to strike as the pack leader forced the others away before taking a big chunk of meat from the carcass.

"NOW!!"

"huh?!?"

In the blink of an eye Zeng charged full force sword at the ready with Zach close behind. Both hunters began cutting down the pack bit by bit until at last only the giadrome was left standing. All three entered a standoff with nothing but the icy snow around them, Zach was a bit nervous since he never fought monsters outside the training hall but Zeng didn't even blink as he waited for the beast to make its move.

Upon taking one step the giadrome charged at Zeng attempting to chomp down on him only to be blocked by the massive width of his sword leaving its side wide open as Zach leaped into action slicing it with lightning fast precision and in just a few moments the beast fell dead on its side, Zach had never felt a rush like that before in his life. Though it was icy cold his blood was boiling with excitement.

"Well not bad Zach. You got what it takes."

"Huh?"

"Welcome to the hunters guild!!"

Upon saying those words Zeng handed Zach a card bearing the symbol of the guild, Zach couldn't believe his eyes as he held it in his hands feeling a sense of pride and surprisingly Zeng gave a friendly smirk and a thumbs up before launching a green signal flare into the air signaling a nearby balloon that the job had been done. Later a party was held in Zachs honor wiht Michelle being there next to him of course.

"I CAN'T BELIEVE IT ZACH YOU DID IT!!"

"Kids got style."

"Hey Zeng. Michelle said you didn't play well with others."

"Oh that? I told her to say that just to phsyce you out. HA HA HAA!!"

Zach was once again dumbfounded and annoyed while Michelle explained that Zeng was ordered by the guild to recruit a team but the only way to do that was to see if they had what it took to survive out in the field and was even more surprised when Michelle showed him her card, she was a member of the team to.

"We get to hang out together again! isn't that great Zach?"

"Uh yeah...great..."

The party went on and Zach suddenly felt like he was a kid again, seeing all the people around him laughing and telling stories, he was glad to be home seeing that the people had not changed and that he found a new friend.
