Lizards of War

Chapter 1

A soft and gentle breeze blows over the trees of a small village that is formally the homes of many dragon lizards, and other reptiles. The village was set in the middle of a large 2000 acre wooded area in Acksen with a population of about 1200. It looked like a huge circle in the woods, as if it were an extraterrestrial alien put it there. This circle was about a football field's length wide for the diameter, and along the circumference of this circular area were the houses built especially by the hardworking reptiles, with regular grass for the yards for the hatchlings to play in it and such. In the dead center of the circle is the lake that was shaped like a bean where all the reptiles get their water, and water supplies for other activity that needs water, like washing dishes, clothes, and other accessories. This village was a very busy village. Everyone had their own set of duties, and jobs to do, and with great work and good deeds coming out of it, their reward will be given to them when finished. Rewards often were getting seconds at lunch, and dinner, and even getting noticed on the daily news events. Even the hatchlings had responsibilities, but money was rarely paid to the reptiles due to the fact that it was an overall poor village, which is why just getting seconds at dinner, and getting announced by the news were good rewards for good deeds, but nobody argued over that fact. There was no need for going out to parties, going to the bars, and clubs, nor there is any need to get anything new, as there wasn't anything of the sort around. It was more of the reptiles grew up, and just got used to what they already have. These reptiles were here for a reason. This place was more like a hideout civilization from their previous incidental tragedy. Their previous homes were destroyed and taken over by Ingrid, the wolf king that runs, and governs this whole land of Acksen. Their reasoning for sabotaging their previous lives were that lizards and other reptiles were low inferior species, and that they were pests. Sounds more of a corrupt government, but all the reptiles never thought of Ingrid's empire to be a government, they thought of it as just a bad group of criminals and crooks. With the amount of stress of the fact of holding, and embracing these thoughts, all the reptiles gather and form a meeting in the primary underground meeting area every week or so often to ease off everybody's stress, as it's not easy dealing with a constant fear that Ingrid will find out where they live.

A family of 5 living in the same complex named Malachi, Daphne, Chase, Cain, and Liz all live in the same place set in toward the southern side of the circle. Malachi, the father who is a brown dragon, and Daphne the green lizard who is also the mother of Cain, Chase, and Liz, and in that same order are oldest to youngest. These lizards were not like any of your typical lizards. The family of these were half bred with a dragon and lizard hybrid, with dark green skin and with 4 little spikes on both sides of their jaw, and 2 horns growing out of their head, as if they were dragons without wings. Although Cain had a more darker tone than Chase. Technically, they are considered dragon lizards, at least that's the label that they were given. All of them live in a single story house. All with a kitchen, dining room, 1 single bedroom for the whole family to sleep in, and 1 bathroom.

Malachi walks in the door of the house. "Family meeting!" Malachi yelled out. Everybody came into 1 room and gathered at the table except for Chase. "Chase!" Malachi yelled out again. It took Chase about two calls before he responded back. "Yes?" Chase responded. "Come here, we got a meeting." Malachi said.

"Alright I'm coming." Chase responded in a sigh while he opens up his bedroom door grunting and comes out and heads for the table and sits down.

"Alright, now that we're all here, I just have some things I'd like to address." Malachi said while sitting at the table. "We are running very tight on our resources, such as food and first aid medicine." Malachi continued.

"If Chase didn't hog up all the house's food we'd be doing alright now." Cain argued judgmentally.

"What the hell are you talking about, Cain?" Chase defended. "You're the one to talk considering how fat you are." Chase continued as he punched Cain in the stomach.

"Hey!" Cain yelled as he got up out of his chair wanted to start a fight with Chase.

"Knock it off, all of you! It's none of you lizards fault." Malachi yelled as he ended the argument. "We don't know what's going on. We are just running very short on food, and it's none of you lizards fault." Malachi told everyone in a serious attitude. "It's not just us, but everyone in this entire village is short of supplies." Malachi added while slowly trying to calm himself down from yelling at Chase and Cain.

"What are we gonna do?" Daphne asked.

"I really don't know." Malachi replied to Daphne

Malachi got up, walked to the window and just looked out the window just thinking about how food and supplies can be found, but he couldn't come up with a solution.

"There's gotta be food and supplies out there somewhere." Malachi stated softly as he looked out the window.

Daphne slowly got up and stood besides Malachi at the window and put her paw on his shoulder. As confused and stressed out Malachi was, Malachi and Daphne went to sleep earlier the same day to try and calm himself down. The next day in the morning during breakfast, Chase reached up and opened up the cupboard and got some grains from the cupboard.

"Not so much, Chase." Malachi demanded in his more calm morning mood. Chase sighs, and only took four grains instead of his usual seven to just try and face the fact of being low on food supplies. Chase and Malachi were the only one awake at the time of the morning.

"We're all going to a meeting today." Malachi said as he was eating his breakfast with Chase

"For what?" Chase questioned while he eats along with Malachi.

"You know what it is." Malachi responded to Chase as if he knew exactly what the reason was.

Cain wakes up, along with his sister Liz, and then opens up the cupboard to get some grains.

"Good morning everyone!" Malachi greeted Liz and Cain, but Cain looked at Malachi in a morning grumpy mood. Cain and Liz got some grains and sat down at the table with Chase and Malachi. Malachi told Liz and Cain the same thing he said to Chase.

"Got a meeting today". Malachi repeated.

"Ok". Liz responded as she grabbed some grains from the cupboard. Liz took the last bit of grains from the cupboard and sat down at the table next to Malachi. Liz stared at the last bit of grains right in front of her.

"Umm, Dad". Liz said as she stared at her couple grains in front of her.

"It's ok." Malachi patted Liz on the back as if he understood what her feelings were. "That's why we're going to this meeting later on." Malachi continued as he turned away then continued eating his meal.

"What kind of meeting?" Liz asked

"A big meeting!" Malachi described it, then turned to everyone as if what he's saying pertains to all and everyone needed to hear and understand. "We're all gonna go to the underground meeting area and we're gonna discuss what we're gonna do as far as food and supplies." Malachi informed everyone at the table.

"But we're barely scraping as-"

"We'll discuss that at the meeting." Malachi interrupted Chase with a serious look on his face as he slammed his fist on the table. Malachi paused for about twenty seconds.

"I'm sorry." Malachi apologized then looked down at the table in disgust. "I shouldn't have shouted." He continued in a more soft voice sorrowful voice.

Later that day, Chase, Cain, Liz, Daphne, and Malachi all walked down to the underground basement meeting area located at the north end of the village next to the lake. The door to the meeting area was just a door flat on the ground. It was covered up in leaves and grass to signify they are trying to keep the entry way discreet from Ingrid's army. They all gradually walk down the steps of the entry way of the underground meeting area, and closed the door behind them. When they got down to the bottom of the steps, it looked as if there were lots of other reptiles waiting for the meeting to start. The meeting area had chairs with long tables set together in horizontal rows across the room. Each row can fit close to 170 reptiles with 7 rows. At the front of the room sat a wooden podium along with 4 other chairs set to the left side of the podium making it signifying that those are the seats of the leaders of the reptiles. Since their little village didn't necessarily have a president, or a mayor, they just pretty much made someone in charge of them all for the hell of it.

Chase, Cain, Liz, Malachi, and Daphne all sit down at a random area in the room which was at the middle section of the room while looking straight at the front. No sooner they sat down, a very rude and mean iguana came and sat right beside Chase. With the look on the iguana's face seemed like he wasn't happy to be here. Chase made a quick glance at the iguana.

"What are you looking at, you fucking freak?" The Iguana remarks at Chase with a horrid attitude, the iguana takes Chase's chair leg and pulls it out from him making Chase trip and fall to the floor.

"What the fuck is your problem?" Chase gets up and takes a swing and slashes the iguana in the face with his claw making 3 scratch marks on his left cheek. Other reptiles turn their head at the 2 lizards fighting.

"Will you two just stop it and sit the fuck down?!" A tegu lizard from across the room yelled out directing it at Chase and the iguana that harassed Chase.

"Daren!" The tegu barkedrevealing the iguana's name. "Leave him alone." The tegu stared at both of the lizards and slowly turned his head and sat back down.

"Are you OK?" Cain peeked his head past Daphne when he heard the commotion.

"Yes, I'm fine." Chase looked ahead of the room waiting for the meeting to start as more and more reptiles enter the room and take their seats. A serious looking monitor lizard named Etan walks up to the podium with a white cloth around him as if it were like a cloak.

"Attention!" The monitor lizard claps his hands at the podium seemingly wanting everyone to focus their eyes to the front of the room. The chatter in the room slowly diminishes. "As you may have noticed already, we have shortages in food and supplies."

"Ya think?" A sarcastic voice shouted across the room. The monitor lizard looks toward where the voice came from but the just brushes it off.

"Look, I know we are all stressed, and because of this stress, we do crazy things, like bully other lizards." The monitor lizard looks down towards Daren the iguana that tried to pick a fight with Chase like as if he was talking and referring to him. "Fighting, and blaming it on someone is not the answer to our problems. We have gone pretty far in our own private economy. Why is that? Because we worked together as a team, and that is what we want to do here in this situation." The monitor lizard lectured the group in a very positive attitude.

"Now, I have an idea" Etan paused for a few seconds looking down to the ground as if pondering what the idea was. "I am going to choose 4 reptiles to come forward." Etan waves his claw around the room trying to decide who to choose out of random.

"You." Etan points his claw to the back of the room to a bearded dragon sitting with his leg on top of the other crossed. "Come forward." Etan signals the bearded dragon to come to the front of the room. The beardie casually walks up to the front of the room."Sit down in that chair." The bearded dragon sits down in one of the 4 chairs that were on the right side of the podium lined up.

"You." The monitor lizard points to Chase.

"Who me?" Chase questioned the monitor lizard pointing at himself.

"Yes." The monitor replied.

Chase gets up and heads toward the front of the room and sits next to the beardie that got called up before.

"You." The monitor points his finger at a ball python snake at the left side of the room. The snake slithers it's way all the way up to the room and tries to get up to the chair. Chase, since he was right next to the chair, helped the snake by pulling him up onto the chair.

"Thanks." The snake whispered to Chase thanking him.

"And you." Etan points to another monitor lizard. This time was up close to the front. The monitor lizard gets up and walks to the front of the room and sits right next to the snake. Etan casually walks away from the podium and walks over to the 4 of us standing right in front but in a side from the bearded dragon sitting besides Chase.

"I want you four to go on a mission." Etan loudly informed the 4 reptiles, but then paused a little and looked down towards the ground like he was thinking of what else to say. "I want you 4 to go deep into the woods and find whatever food or supplies you can find." He boldly informed them while pacing back and forth in the length of the 4 chairs with his hands clasped behind his back. Chase, looking kind of determined to say something then finally raises his right hand.

"Yes?" Etan pointed at Chase in response to his raised hand.

"When can we leave?" Chase asked in an obedient manner like he was in the military strongly determined to carry on this mission.

"As soon as possible." A stern and serious face approached Etan's face while still pacing back and forth with his hands around his back. "In fact, right after this meeting, you can go." He continued but in a more softer voice as he tilted his head down facing the floor. "Now I want to warn the four of you." Etan pointed his finger to the four of the reptiles informing all of us. "Be careful, and don't make too much noise." Etan informed the reptiles with a real serious attitude. "We don't want Ingrid's army to find out. Do you understand?"

"Yes." The reptiles all replied but instead of all at once it was just in an disorganized fashion.

"Very good." The monitor lizard then walks back up to the podium. "As for the rest of you, you may all go home." Etan paused for a few seconds. "Dismissed." All the reptiles slowly walked out and back up the stairs and out the door.

"Wait!" Etan signaled his hand in front of the 4 reptiles that were chosen to do the task in the woods that were sitting in the 4 chairs up front. "I have something to give you guys first." Etan walked back behind the wall where a door was opened up and he pulled out 3 machetes. He walked over to the 4 reptiles and handed them the machetes. "You can take them and keep them." Knowing that the snake can't really hold a machete, but he must have chosen right for a snake to go with them. Etan smiled and then walked away, stepped out of the front area and walked up the stairs and out the door. Chase slowly gets up out of the chair and as well as the other 4 reptiles casually. He takes a sigh and looks toward the door. "I'm guessing we go now?" Chase asked.

"I guess." The monitor lizard said as he shrugged his shoulders. Chase's dad and mother Malachi and Daphne walked up to Chase while they were still up front. Malachi and Chase stare for a little bit and then Malachi came up and gave Chase a hug.

"Good luck son." Malachi giving Chase a slapping hug. Chase returns the hug.

"Yes...Dad." Chase smirking a little bit, then Malachi smiled and slowly backed up and walked away out the door.

"Is that your dad?" The bearded dragon asked.

"No, what you saw was a zombie dragon, but apparently he has emotions unlike a typical zombie". Chase seemingly joked around with him in a sarcastic way with a smile while they are walking up the steps.

"Ok, geez, I was just asking -

"Hey, wait for me." The snake interrupted while trying to slither it's way to the stairs. Chase smiled and reached down and picked up the snake and put him around his neck. "Why didn't I get a whacky thing?" The snake questioned them while they exited the underground meeting area.

"Because you're a snake. How are you supposed to even hold it?" The monitor lizard replied while having a light chuckle.

"True." The snake looked up.

"So, what are all of you fellows' names?" Chase asked the 3 reptiles.

"Name's Cody." The bearded dragon said in a soft voice.

"I'm Curtis." The monitor lizard spoke up. "I live on the south side." He joked around by throwing gang symbols. Chase chuckled. "Yeah, we all know you're not that kind of lizard." Chase responded.

"I'm Seth, but others just call me Snakey." The snake responded. He sounded like he was very silly but quite a friendly snake.

"I like Snakey. It's easier." Chase smiled at Snakey around his neck. All the 4 reptiles start heading toward the woods. Since there were no paths in the woods, they just had to follow the occasional footprints that were left by some lizards that went in the woods previously. They are now on their way to carry on the mission.
