#2 of Hopeful Hearts

A small light is shed on the mysterious life of one girl.

Star rushed down the hallways of the school, weaving around different groups of kids as the lazily conversated and walked at their own leisure, looking for a restroom to stop by. As she did this, numerous amounts of people shouted out at her, welcoming her back from the break with cheerful faces and gleeful tones. Even though she was in a rush, for whatever reason, she still managed to take her time to smile, wave, and thank each and every person that said something to her. She scurried towards the restroom door, pushing it open with lightining-fast speed, then just as quickly slamming the door, holding her weight against it as she let out a sigh and her sweet smile vanished into a gloomy smirk.

She examined the bathroom with little interest. It was white brick wall on while tile, the bland colors all schools always seemed to partake of. The lights casted a slight glare off the gleaming, damp tiles. There was no one else in the restroom, which brought her a great relief as she would not have to wait for them to exit. She made her way to the sink, where she set everything down before resting her paws against the sink's edges and leaning in towards the mirror. She speedily flipped her hair out of her way, viewing a grotsque bump located slightly above her left eye, which was normally hidden by her black hair. A bruise was forming, transforming colors to an ugly black underneath her white fur. After staring at it closely for several minutes, she rolled up the sleves of her pink floral shirt little by little, showing a pattern of bruises that continued up her arms as she inched her sleves up bit by bit. Tears stung in her eyes, threatening to trickle down her face, but she managed to hold them back, with much effort.

Afer only a few minutes of tracing her hands over the black shapes that colored her arms, she could no longer bare the pain of merely looking back on what she had experienced earlier that morning. She pulled her sleeves back down to hide her arms, fixed her hair to cover her left eye, and began staring sternly at her own image. She could still hear the voice ringing inside her head, calling her worthless and pathetic as the weapon of assualt was brought down upon her, leaving the bruises that now mark her body.

"Y-you... This is... your... fault..." she whispered, repeating his words; the words he said to her every time.

With those words injected into the silence, she collected all of her belongings from the floor and stared in the mirror once more, shooting daggers from her eyes to herself. She then suddenly began smiling, that fake smile she always wore to hide all the pain that she always felt. "Good kitty," she thought aloud. "hide it like you always do."

She began to collect herself then, the tears that lingered finally fading away and pushing the thoughts of the events that had occured that morning as far away as she possibly could. She made her way to the door and pushed it open wide. A smile was spreading across her face as the sounds of society filled her ears once again, the hushed voices of students chatting with one another, engaging in friendly conversations.

It was what she was best at after all, hiding her pain from everyone else.
