#5 of The Adventures of a Blind Tigress

Dannica continues to learn how to deal with her blindness, and a lesson goes awry when Hope and Dannica take things a little too far.

Dannica felt the sure and firm grip of her tutor's hand over hers as she grasped the long, thin metal cane in her hand. She also felt the heat rising in her head as sure as the ache in her shins as she stood upright once again.

"I want you to listen carefully, Dannica," Miss Connors said. Her quiet and calm voice served as a grounding point, something for Dannica to focus on while she fought down the frustrated sob that threatened to rise into her throat. She'd been with Miss Connors for the better part of six hours on a sunny Saturday, learning slowly to use the long white cane that her father found for her. All she really wanted to do was go outside and lounge in the sun with her Hope, but she could almost feel her father's presence off to the side of the room, sitting next to Hope.

Miss Connors raised Dannica's hand and tapped the cane against the carpet once, and then again. There was a distinctive muffled thump as it hit.

"Feel what the cane is telling you, dear. It's softer than the wood, it gives a little. Do you feel that?"

Dannica nodded, focusing all her attention on the sensations being transmitted through the metal cane to her fingers. Then she felt Miss Connors raise her hand and tap the tip of the cane against the hardwood just a little to the left. There was a sharp tapping and the cane vibrated even more against her fingers with every tap.

"Hear the difference, Dannica?" Miss Connors asked.

"Yes, ma'am," Dannica said. She honestly could feel the difference.

"Let's try it again," Miss Connors said as she guided Dannica back across the room with a gentle hand on her shoulder.

Once Dannica was in the starting position again, she felt Miss Connors slide the cane out in front of her again and let go of her hand.

"Now remember, the wood is the clear path. Stay on the wood and you'll be fine."

Dannica nodded again and with a hesitant shuffle of her feet, she started down the path again, tapping the cane gently against the ground, listening to the sounds that it made. Clicking, clicking, clicking and then a quiet, muffled tap. Then another. Dannica stopped and tapped around a little, finding the wood again off to her right. After a little adjustment, she made the turn easily.

"Very good," Miss Connors said. "Just take your time. It's not about speed today, dear. It's about getting used to the cane, letting it tell you about the world."

Dannica smiled at the compliment and then started to move forward again, still paying close attention to when the feeling and the sound coming from the cane changed.

"Use the force, Dani!" came Hope's quiet jest of encouragement from the edge of the room.

Dannica stopped and turned her head towards Hope's voice. "What?" she asked.

"Oh, for heaven's sake, really? You haven't seen Star Wars?"

"It's a movie?" Dannica asked.

"It's the first movie I'm renting when we get to the movie store."

"Focus, please, girls," Miss Connors interrupted.

"Sorry, ma'am," Hope and Dannica said almost simultaneously. Then the two of them giggled before Dannica started moving again.

With each step that she took, Dannica started to feel more and more confident. She started to separate the sounds and the feelings that she was expecting from the sensations that were actually coming to her. It took her a very long, very careful time to finish, but finally, she felt the cane bump up against something in front of her that was neither carpet nor wood. With a smile, she remembered the feeling of the rubber bumper that Miss Connors had put at the end of the course.

"I made it," she said, voice flush with quiet accomplishment.

"You did very well," Miss Connors said from almost directly behind her.

She heard thumping against the wood floor and she braced herself for what she knew was coming, and sure enough Hope grabbed her in a hard but warm hug.

"I'm proud of you, Dani," she whispered before she planted a kiss on Dannica's muzzle.

Dannica could feel the heat of her blush creeping up her cheeks, but she hugged Hope right back with a little giggle. Then she turned and followed Hope to an empty chair at the far end of the room. The familiar scent of her father came from right beside her and she turned her head towards it.

"Can we please be done for the day, da?" she asked. "My legs really hurt."

"Miss Connors," Duke asked, the question not needing to be asked again.

"Yes, Dannica, that would be fine. You've made very good progress for your first day with the cane." She felt a slight shift next to her and heard the rustling of her tutor's clothing as she knelt down next to her. Then she felt Miss Connors hands on hers.

"I gave your father two books. One's for you and one's for Hope. They're your homework for next week. Read as far as you can and we'll talk about it, okay?"

Dannica nodded, smiling and happy at the fact that her tutor had provided a copy of the book for Hope as well.

"And Hope," Miss Connors said, "yours is in Braille, too. I know you've been listening in, and I want to see how much you've learned. No reading to her, okay?"

"Okay, Miss Connors," Hope said. Dannica could hear the happy smile in her voice. Ever since Dannica had started the tutoring sessions at the blind center, Hope had insisted on coming along with her, to the point that even Duke was averse to telling her no. She'd come along to every session and at each and every lesson, she'd learned right along with Dannica.

"May I try the course, Miss Connors?" Hope asked.

"If Dannica doesn't mind you borrowing her cane," Miss Connors answered.

Dannica lifted the cane and pushed it towards her friend with a smile. "Go ahead."

She felt Hope taking the cane from her hands and then she heard her walking across the floor to the starting point. She'd been studying with Hope and the tutor long enough that the slight whispering sound was her friend tying a silk scarf around her eyes. She smiled and then listened even more carefully to the tapping of the cane as Hope started down the path.

After only a couple thumps and quiet curses that Dannica couldn't help giggle at, Hope finally finished. Shortly after, she felt Hope sit down next to her and slip the cane into her fingers once again.

"That was a lot harder than I thought it would be, and I got to see the course first," Hope said with a voice filled with interest.

"So you see how much more difficult it is to navigate an unfamiliar path when you haven't had the benefit of seeing it first," Miss Connors said.

"Yes, ma'am," Hope said. "Thank you for letting me try."

Miss Connors laughed. "Hope, you're the first sighted person I've ever taught who was almost more interested in the lessons than my blind pupils."

"She's like that for everything, Miss Connors," Dannica said with a chuckle. Dannica had to admit that she was very impressed with her friend. Despite all the time that she'd been spending with Dannica, she hadn't let her own studies slip at all. Dannica wasn't the kind that needed a great deal of help in her lessons, just someone to read her what needed to be done, and many of her teachers let her submit her assignments on tape instead of on paper, so while Dannica was working on her homework, Hope kept up with her classes.

Her studious and curious nature had rubbed off on Dannica a little bit, and her teachers were constantly praising her work and the way that she went out of her way to learn even more about the subjects than they had originally taught. She couldn't help it with the encouragement that Hope gave her on a daily basis.

"You girls enjoy your afternoon, and don't forget to read your chapters over the next few days, okay?"

"Okay, Miss Connors," they both answered.

Dannica followed Hope's footsteps through the door, knowing that she was holding it open for her. She could hear her father bringing up the rear. She tried using the cane on the way from the car to the door, even though she knew the way by heart. Miss Connors had said that the best way to get really familiar with the cane was to use it in places that she already knew how to get around, so that she could feel the difference in the textures that she already knew.

She paid close attention to the feeling of the metal in her hands as the tip ran along the concrete and off the edges into the grass. There were the subtle differences at the cracks in the concrete and the sudden stop when the tip of the cane ran into the side of the step up to the front door. She heard Hope giggling as she finally made her way into the house.

"You're getting better at that, Dani," Hope said proudly.

Dannica smiled as she heard the door closing behind her.

"Hope, do you mind starting some snacks?" Duke asked as he laid his hand on Dannica's shoulder. "I'll take Dannica upstairs."

"Okay, Mister Wallis," Hope answered. Dannica didn't need to focus too hard to hear the knowledge in Hope's voice that Duke wanted to have a quiet word with his daughter.

Dannica heard Hope's steps receding into the kitchen and she walked up the stairs with her father's hand lightly on her shoulder. She didn't need the help any longer to get up and down the stairs and it had been a week or two since the last time her legs had tired to the point that she almost fell. All in all she was feeling much stronger.

The familiar scent of her room surrounded her and she walked to the closet to take off her shoes, sliding them just inside the door to the exact place she always looked for them in the morning. She could feel her father's eyes on her while she did, and she smiled, knowing that there was he wasn't going to find anything to scold her about.

"Come sit, Dannica," he said in his gentle voice. Just by the tone in his voice, she knew that she wasn't in trouble and didn't have anything to worry about.

She crossed back across the bedroom to the bed and sat on the edge and she felt him sit next to her and wrap his arm around her shoulders.

"It's been a while since I checked in with you, Dannica," he said quietly. "Is everything going all right with you?"

Dannica frowned while she thought, trying to figure out if there was some reason for him to be asking her the question, and when she couldn't find anything, she nodded and smiled.

"Everything is fine, da. Why?"

"Hope's taken over pretty much everything I used to do for you, so I just want to make sure that everything's cool with you and her."

"She's the best thing that's ever happened to me, da," Dannica said, blushing when she realized what she said.

She heard her father laughing beside her. "That's good to know. That's the other thing that I wanted to talk to you about."

Dannica's ears flattened a little against her head and she flushed a little harder. "What do you mean?"

"I know what you two get up to, Dannica, and you need to know that I'm okay with you and her, okay?"

Dannica nodded, still flushed. She was happy that he wasn't going to freak out about her being with Hope, but there was still the sheer embarrassment of talking about the situation with her father. "I know, da. I knew a few weeks ago when she slept over for the first time."

Duke chuckled and squeezed her tighter. "As long as you know that whoever you choose to love is your choice. I do what I can to keep you safe, but I don't think you could have done better than Hope."

Dannica nodded and hugged her father closer still.

"Just," he continued, pausing for a second, "just be careful, okay. You know that you can talk to me about anything. If anything's strange or you don't feel right, I want you to tell me, okay?"

Dannica frowned, thoughts of what he could mean wandering through her head. Her father must have seen the look on her face, because he sighed and said, "I don't think anything will, but I worry for you. Just humor me, okay?"

There was just a touch too much seriousness in his voice for the wave-off that his words tried to be, but Dannica tried to put it out of her mind, and instead hugged him again and smiled up at him. "I'll tell you, da."

She felt the bed shift when he stood up and then she heard the door open and the heavenly smell of her father's home made pizza rolls came wafting in just ahead of Hope's familiar scent.

"Just try to keep the sound effects down, okay?" her father said with a laugh as Dannica heard his steps heading to the door. She flushed anew, by the heat on her face, she knew it was a bright crimson beneath her fur.

Soon after, she heard the clatter of the plate on the bedside table and the bed shifted when Hope pulled herself up beside her friend.

"Was he talking about-" Hope started to ask.

"Yes," Dannica answered quietly.

Hope giggled and Dannica soon joined in.

"You're lucky, Dani," Hope said when they finally finished. "When I told my parents that I liked boys and girls both, it took a while for them to figure it out. Your dad's already okay with your liking girls, that's pretty awesome."

Dannica nodded, smiling. "You're right. He's an incredible man."

Hope hugged her and then gently pulled her off the bed. "Come on, homework time. Let's get started."

Dannica groaned and followed Hope's urgings to the desk on the far side of the room. They'd set it up so that they could both work at the same desk at the same time, and they each took their chairs and started in on their homework. Though the next day was Saturday, Hope always said that it was the best idea to get the homework out of the way so that they could have fun for the weekend and know that they didn't have to worry about it.

Math and science went as easily as always and soon all their problems were done and put aside. The paper that the English teacher wanted was read into her tape recorder and put atop the other homework, and while Hope finished up the last part of her work, Dannica was laying on the bed with the book from her tutor open in front of her.

"I'm never going to get this," she muttered while her fingers tried to tell the difference between one pattern of raised dots and the next. She had done all right with the children's books, the ones that had really easy to identify braille patterns, but the new book had the patterns close together and she was having trouble separating them into letters and words.

She heard Hope shuffling some papers on the desk across the room. "Keep trying, and don't lose patience. Miss Connors said that it would take a while."

Dannica tried harder to focus on the page, but after another few minutes, she closed the book firmly and set it aside with a sigh. She heard Hope's soft laugh and the chair sliding against the floor. From the sounds and the sound of her friend's paws on the carpet, she knew that she was finished with her work and she was coming to lie next to her in bed. Sure enough, the bed moved and shifted under her weight and the comforting warmth of Hope's fur slid against Dannica's arm.

"What's the problem, then?" Hope asked.

"I can't tell the difference in the dots," Dannica said wiggling her fingers in front of her. "My fingers just don't want to tell me."

She felt Hope's hands wrap around hers. "You need to pay really close attention to what they're telling you, Dannica," Hope said.

Dannica felt Hope taking her hands further from her body and Hope's fingers splayed hers apart as she moved. Then she felt soft skin beneath her forefinger's pad.

"What are you touching?" Hope asked.

"Your lips," Dannica answered, feeling Hope's warm breath against her fingers.

"Focus on your fingers," Hope said as she moved them along the soft skin of her lips. Dannica smiled as she reached the corners of her friend's mouth. Then Hope lifted her hands and set them down again. Beneath her pads, she felt soft fur and the hard ridge of bone beneath warm skin.

"Now, tell me what you're touching."

"Your eyebrows," Dannica said with a laugh.

"Good. Now move your fingers, feel the fur, the whiskers, the bone, focus on what your fingers are telling you."

Dannica did as Hope wanted, and she felt everything that her friend was pointing out. She felt the subtle difference between the fur and the whiskers, and the little barely discernable features in the bone beneath the surface.

She held her hands there for a moment as she felt Hope moving away. Then she dropped her hands to her lap and she felt the bed moving when Hope slipped off of it. The sound of rustling clothing told her that her friend was undressing, and when she was back, Hope took hold of Dannica's hands again and brought them back towards her.

Once again, Dannica felt the softness of Hope's fur under her paws, but this time, there was a subtle difference. The fur where her hands were was even softer than the fur of her face, and it had a slight curl to it. She remembered the first time she'd felt the fur on Hope's belly and chest and she knew without a doubt that her hands were somewhere there. Hope pulled her hands a little tighter against her and Dannica felt the skin give easily, speaking not to muscle but to something much softer.

Grinning, she turned her hands a little and giggled when her guess was proven right, the curve of Hope's breast was right there ready for her hands to cup along the underside.

"Very good," Hope said, her voice a little more husky than it was just a moment ago.

"You're making it hard to focus on my fingers, Hope," Dannica said, grinning.

"Keep focusing," Hope said while she pulled Dannica's fingers off her body again.

Dannica felt Hope shifting and then her fingers felt new soft fur beneath them, but this fur was somewhere between the softness of Hope's belly fur and her back fur. The firmness of the skin under it also told her that she was on muscle. Her fingers gently probed around, finding the ridges in the muscle and the way that the fur was brushed. Then she laughed.

"I don't think I need to tell you," Dannica said, sliding her fingers up against the grain of Hope's fur. She lifted one hand and moved it to the side, finding the other thigh that she expected almost exactly where she expected it.

Then she felt Hope's hands covering hers again, but instead of lifting them off, she pulled Dannica's hands further up between her spread thighs. "Keep focusing," she whispered.

Dannica nodded, though she found it very hard to focus on her fingers when she felt herself getting closer and closer to the damp heat that she enjoyed so much on her friend. Her thoughts were wandering to a far different place than her fingers.

She felt a pinch on the back of her hand and she growled. "Focus," Hope said.

Dannica laughed, noticing that the pinch gave her something more to focus on. She needed it because a second after, she felt the familiar soft, damp skin and fur beneath her fingertips.

"Feel everything, Dannica," Hope said, letting go of everything but Dannica's forefingers. She guided them over her outer lips and Dannica could feel the soft fur and the warmth of Hope's body, so concentrated here. But the more she focused, the more she could feel the little differences, the little imperfections. She could feel the little bumps where the fur grew from the skin, the way that the flesh moved beneath her pads, the way that the outer lips parted.

Then the delicate skin of Hope's inner lips, wrinkly, warm, wet. Hope finally let go of her hands and let her explore on her own. Any other day, she'd have taken the invitation to go straight for getting her friend off, but today she was almost entranced by what she was feeling now that she was paying closer attention.

Then another sense kicked in, and it wasn't just what she was feeling, it was what she smelled. She'd always enjoyed Hope's scent, but with her attention focused wholly on what she was doing, her friend's scent took on a whole new dimension. It was strongly female, mixed with the very light scent of the rose soap that Hope loved. And under all that was Dannica's own scent, likely there from the last time they'd been together.

Her fingers moved along the features of her friend's vulva, taking in everything, and when she finally found the little bit of skin that covered Hope's clit, she paused. There was something else that she was feeling, something that she could almost see. Something deep down inside told her exactly how ready Hope was. She could just about taste the built up arousal and need that had her friend panting on the bed. She knew that a few flicks of her finger would have her writhing in pleasure. And yet beneath that, there was a hunger to do just that.

That hunger had her moving up beside her friend and leaning over to kiss her way up Hope's body, little by little while her fingers still paused, hovering just over that perfectly sensitive nub of flesh and nerves. When her lips found Hope's she kissed deeply as she started the flicks against her that she so wanted and needed.

The inner sense was right, and after only a few of the briefest touches, she felt Hope cross the threshold and fall into the throes of orgasm even as she moaned deeply into Dannica's open mouth. That hunger inside breathed, and Dannica felt something flowing from Hope to her, sating that hunger, and the sensation dampened between her own legs.

Again, she drew another breath, taking more of whatever it was. As she did, she moved one hand out from between Hope's legs to press up between her own. It didn't matter that there was still shorts and underwear between her fingers and herself, she needed the pressure. Whatever it was that she was doing had her so ready that she felt she'd burst if she didn't get something there.

She drew yet another breath and Hope moaned a bit more quietly and by the hand between Hope's legs, she could tell that she was still caught up in the waves of pleasure. Something in the back of her mind told her to stop, but she was so very close.

And then it crashed down and she had to bite her lip to keep from screaming with the sheer rush of what was happening. The orgasms she'd had before were nothing to what she was having now. Her lips finally left Hope's and she vaguely felt her friend release and sink against the bed. Hope's utter relaxation would have bothered her in another time, but right now the only thing in her world was the sheer and utter pleasure. Waves and waves of it washed over her again and again. Her release soaked through the layers of fabric between her legs and dampened her fingers. She couldn't stop it if she'd wanted to.

Finally, though, it did subside, and it left her panting and softly moaning on the bed, more satisfied than she'd ever felt. Only then did she roll over and snuggle up against Hope. Her friend didn't move on the bed, didn't wrap her in her arms, didn't do anything.

Dannica's heart threatened to strangle her when Hope didn't react and she struggled to sit up. She laid her hands on Hope's chest and felt while she listened. Hope was breathing, but it was shallow and rapid and Dannica could feel Hope's heart beating frantically fast beneath her hand.

"::Oh, god,::" Dannica whispered. "Wake up, Hope!"

She shook Hope, and felt her limp body moving on the bed, almost lifeless if it wasn't for the warmth under her fur. She leaned her head down and turned so that her ear could hear Hope breathing.

When she turned her head again to try calling into Hope's ear, she felt a little of whatever she was breathing in before flow back out of her, and slowly, Hope's breath on her muzzle began to slow and deepen.

Dannica took a sobbing breath and then tried again, and again she felt the breath move back out and into her friend. Finally, she felt Hope stirring under her hand and Dannica hugged Hope tightly to her, sobbing.

"Dani?" Hope asked. "What happened? That was amazing."

Dannica couldn't answer, she could only hold Hope close and sob, her heart beating in her throat while she considered how close she'd come to losing her love.

"I don't know, Hope. I thought I was going to lose you," Dannica said through the sobs.

"Relax, love," Hope said quietly, lifting her hands to stroke Dannica's hair. "I'm here, I'm here."

It took a long time for Dannica to calm down, and after she had, she and Hope sat on the bed holding each other. Finally they moved apart.

"What should I do?" Dannica asked after she'd told Hope everything that had happened.

"I don't know. Maybe you should tell your dad."

Dannica considered that for a moment. "He sounded worried when we were talking," she said. "I wonder if he knows what's going on."

"Ask him, Dannica. He loves you. I'll be here with you, because I love you, too."

Dannica nodded. "I love you, Hope. Don't ever leave, okay?"

"I'm not going anywhere, Dani. But you might want to change. It looks like you had a whole lot of fun, too."

Dannica blushed and laughed, happy that she finally felt a little better. She slid off the bed and into the closet to find another pair of shorts, and then together Hope and Dannica left the bedroom and walked downstairs.

"Da," Dannica said when they got to the living room. "We need to talk."
