A story for the Thursday Prompt hosted by Duroc (http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5071083/)

This (that) weeks Prompt? Alien.

Decided to take the obvious route and go for space invaders. Tried something new though format wise: I always really liked how games like Fallout can tell a really compelling story in just a few tidbits on scraps of letters and notes, so I wanted to see if I could do something like that.

Turns out I can't (least I don't think so). Oh well, nice live and learn process this was!

Visual contact with Sovereignty made at approximately seventeen hundred hours, Earth time, Eastern Standard Time zone. Docking completed two hours after visual contact established. Engineer Clark, Science Officer Dr. Weise, and Communications Officer Gibbs sent aboard to search for any survivors and salvageable materials. Expect next update upon return of crew members after debriefing.

Communications Officer Gibbs has not yet returned from initial search of Sovereignty. Sensors indicate he was successful in deactivating distress beacon, Clark able to reactivate artificial gravity. Clark and Weise report no signs of remaining crew. Will lead extensive search party tomorrow consisting of myself, Weise, and Clark. Expect next update upon return from search.

Ship Log: USS Armstrong

Source of disturbance discovered; was Gibbs. Barely recognizable: fur had fallen out, being replaced by some shell like growth. Weise suspects some form of carbonate or calcite. Tasked him with further examination. Gibbs unresponsive to any communications, charged Stark after discovering him. Apparently fell out of ventilation shaft. Charged and attacked Stark, showed high pain tolerances, only stopping once his head was bashed in. Expect next update after autopsy.

Ship Log: UN Sovereignty

October 5, 2043

This is Captain Miller of the USS Armstrong. I have discovered what the cause of the disappearance of the crew of the Sovereignty is. They were turned into whatever Gibbs was. Only Gibbs was killed in the early stages of it. Fully turned creatures seem to prefer cool environments, only coming out to spread their parasite. Never seen anything like it. Found a 'nest' in the cooling bay; must have been hibernating during the first search. Almost completely encased in their shell. Must have grabbed Gibbs. Must have let him go to flush us out. Smart bastards. Weise was the first to turn. Must have gotten infected during the autopsy. Stark turned next. Delayed reaction, probably from wounds. You have to hit them in the head! Took me too long to figure that out. Used that knowledge to kill Weise. Killed Stark just as he was showing symptoms. Get some marines here; have them try shooting for the head, see how well that works. Bastards swarmed out of their nest, forced me out of the Armstrong and up to the bridge of the Sovereignty. Snuck in through the vents, just like Gibbs tried to do. Managed to slip out. Turned the distress signal back on. Just have to wait for backup to arrive now. Just have to wait. Doors will keep them out. Just have to wait.

Error. Message unable to send.

Ship Log: USS Integrity

October 14, 2043

Responding to renewed distress signal from UN Sovereignty and unresponsive USS Armstrong. Docking competed adjacent to Armstrong, both vessels seem derelict and show no sign of life. Some crew members reported hearing strange sounds coming from ventilation shafts shortly after docking. Engineer tasked with examining air distribution system. Search and rescue reported shed fur all along both vessels. Expect next update after source of disturbances is completed.
