Curious about what other kinds of Blood Sports exist in the food chain universe? This is the first part in a list of the available sports, as well as potential stories I might wright in the future.

So you're probably wondering how Blood Sports work in the Food Chain story, right? Well Food Chain is just one of several dozen Blood Sports that exist in that universe (about 36 in total). You see, the story takes place far into the distant future. No exact date is given, but I like to think that it is at least 100,000 years ahead of our time, which is how I explain all the crazy shit technology you see going on.

In this time period, the television broadcasts of our era have become stale and uninteresting. The general public has no interest in our form of entertainment anymore, and so they turned to Blood Sports, the ancient tradition of watching people massacre each other for the applause of the audience. Initially starting out as underground, illegal broadcasts, the Blood Sports quickly amassed enough popularity to become public and legal.

Although only condemned criminals were forced to compete in the original broadcasts, more and more people who were low on money, bored with life, or wanted an outlet for their mental instability began expressing an interest to compete, and so the shows began to take on volunteers from the public, and thus the Blood Sports fully cemented their position in the public entertainment industry.

21 is the legal age of consent to participate in these games, as this is usually the age when most people have grown up and gotten their lives together. An 18 year old might still be going through school or living with their parents, and would pose too much drama if they were allowed to take part, so instead only legal adults were permitted to take part.

In addition to providing glorious entertainment, the Blood Sports also work to aid the over population of the human race, as well as world hunger and diseases. Every Blood Sport involves the players being spliced with medical enhancements that vastly improve the physical capabilities of the player. If the player was physically unhealthy prior to the operation, their body will adjust into a more appropriate shape, becoming leaner and more muscular as excess fat is converted into muscle mass for a stronger, healthier body.

Additionally, each of the sports individually houses several hundred players every year. And considering there are 36 sports in total, that means at least a few thousand people are killed off every year to appease the crowds. But with over 7 billion people on the planet, a few thousand barely even puts a dent in those numbers.

Listed below, I have provided a preview description of the Blood Sports that air in this universe. Some might even be made into future stories if I feel like they'd be good enough!

Gladiator: A blood sport featuring 2 factions of players including the Gladiators, and the Beasts. The players are forced to compete against each other in fights to the death, and the game is over when one side has been completely wiped out. The matches are set up in Duel (1vs1) Paired (2vs2) or Team (3vs3) competitions. Or, at the player's request, they can take part in a Glory Match in which one player challenges 5 members of the opposite team simultaneously!

Team Gladiator - Retaining their human forms, these players are modified with the bodies of Olympic athletes, putting them in top physical condition for the game. They are also given a variety of medieval weaponry and light body armor.

Team Beast - These players are spliced with animal DNA, dramatically increasing their physical capabilities. They do not wear armor nor have access to artificial weaponry, but they make up for this by having natural weaponry and heightened prowess compared to that of a human.

Potential Story - Hell Yes. I've seen enough Sparticus to know how erotic and violent this story can turn out!

Food Chain: A blood sport in which all the players are spliced with animal DNA and compete to survive for as long as possible on a deadly island. As if the death traps and genetically engineered wild game wasn't enough of a threat, they also have to evade the 5 Hunters who are modified into super predators, as well as the dwindling sanity of players who can't quite endure the hardships of the island. It truly is survival of the fittest in this nerve racking sport!

Potential Story - What the hell? I'm writing one right now, go read it!

Shinobi Clan Wars: A very popular blood sport in which players are divided up 4 into different factions called Shinobi Clans, and have their bodies spliced to super human levels of athletic performance. The goal of the game is to become the most powerful clan by exterminating the rival clans. Even better, if the grand master of a clan is assassinated, all the surviving members of his clan must join the killer's, further increasing their numbers! Each of the 4 clans is based on one of the 4 elements including Water, Earth, Fire, and Air.

Fire Clan - Specializing in raw, offensive power, the Fire Clan has some of the most devastating weaponry including explosives, flame throwers, cannons, and flame swords. In battle, only the Earth Clan's legendary defense can give them pause. They are spliced with Pyrokinetic abilities, allowing them to manipulate flames with their minds.

Water Clan - Specializing in adaptability, the Water Clan is the most well rounded among all the 4 clans, able to combine speed, power, and defense into a balanced style. While they may not specialize in any one field, they are prepared for anything. They are spliced with Hydrokinetic abilities, allowing them to manipulate water with their minds.

Earth Clan - Specializing in impenetrable defense, the Earth Clan are scatter their territory with hidden traps and rough terrain. Skilled in camouflage and focusing on endurance, they are among the toughest of the clans, rivaled only by Fire's incredible offense. They are spliced with Geokinetic abilities allowing them to manipulate earth with their minds.

Wind Clan - Specializing in speed and acrobatics, the Wind Clan's territory requires advanced athletics training to be able to safely maneuver, including steep cliffs and jagged mountains. Their weapons may not pack as great a punch as the Fire Clan, but they are light weight and strike blindingly fast, allowing them to get in, make the kill, and get out before anyone is the wiser. They are spliced with Aerokinetic abilities allowing them to manipulate the air with their minds.

Potential Story - Maybe. A ninja themed assassin war sounds pretty cool. But I'll have to constantly suppress my utter disgust with Naruto every time I write a chapter.

Ultimate Death Match: Another fighting tournament in which the players compete on a series of high tech arenas which are tricked out with any number of creative and brutal death traps. Not only does falling outside the arena lead to a bloody death, there are even traps inside the arena itself trying to help dispose of the players. The match doesn't end until one player expires, and the champion of the tournament is the last fighter alive.

The only rule in the tournament is that fighters can only use melee weaponry, no long ranged tactics. This ensures the fighters get up close and personal, rather than running around like cowards.

Potential Story - No. While the idea was inspired by Mortal Kombat, there's not a lot to go on besides wonton slaughter.

Super Slaughter: Another very popular blood sport in which each players is spliced with a randomly selected super power and made to compete against each other in fights to the death. The players are allowed to ally themselves into teams of no more than 7 members total. The goal of the game is to ensure that your team is the only one surviving, or that you are the only one surviving if you chose to work solo.

In order to ensure a fair fight and make sure their powers don't fluctuate out of control, each player is given one month of training to adjust to their new ability before the real fight begins. This sport is especially popular among older children who want to see super powered individuals duke it out in real life.

Potential Story - Maybe. Depends on what I come up with for the way of super powers.

Man vs Wild: This blood sport is a hunting show in which players earn points by hunting genetically engineered monsters and animals. The more dangerous the prey, the more points it is worth, but also the bigger the risk to hunting it. After each successful hunt, the killer is awarded a trophy from their prey to prove their kill.

The twist? The highest ranking hunter at the end of the show gets to hunt the most dangerous prey of all, MAN, and they are set out to kill the remaining hunters to win the game. The game ends when the ranking hunter kills all their fellow players, or they succeed in killing the hunter.

Potential Story - No. Not really into pure human stories.

Sheep Herder: This is yet another blood sport that splicing the players with animal DNA. At random, three players are chosen to take on the roles of the Sheppard, the Dog, and the Wolf. All the other players are spliced with sheep and serve as the flock. The Sheppard (who is the only human player remaining) must defend their flock with the help of the Dog so that the Wolf doesn't kill and eat them.

In order to make sure the game lasts longer, the Wolf is only permitted to kill 1 sheep every 24 hours. If they can't eliminate the entire flock by the end of the season, they lose. This makes it a thrilling slasher series in which the sheep never know who the Wolf will be targeting for their next meal!

Sheppard - The only human player in the game. The Sheppard is spliced with an athletic body so they can quickly run to the aid of their helpless sheep. Although the Sheppard is forbidden from intentionally killing the Wolf (as that would end the game), they are given an electrified crook that can be used to repel the Wolf and chase them out of the area.

Dog - The Sheppard's partner and spliced with a random species of dog, commonly a Sheep Dog but others have been seen in the past. The Dog's duty is to patrol around the farm and ensure the Wolf hasn't breached the security. They are also supposed to summon the Sheppard when they spot the Wolf in the area. Although the Dog is free to attack the wolf, they are forbidden from killing them, just like the Sheppard

Wolf - The villain of the game. The Wolf is forbidden from intentionally killing the Sheppard or their Dog, but the Sheep are under no such restrictions. The Wolf's job is to sneak into the area and kill one of the sheep every 24 hours. This job becomes increasingly more difficult as the fewer number of sheep become easier to keep a watch over.

Sheep - The cannon fodder of the game. The Sheep rely on the Sheppard and the Dog to keep them safe from the Wolf's hunger. Unfortunately the flock tends to start off very large, which makes it hard to keep track of their activities, and thus the Wolf inevitably kills a lot of them early in the game.

Potential Story - Yes. A good slasher survival horror story would be a fun idea.

Monsters and Fairy Folk: When this blood sport came out, just about every LARPing nerd creamed their pants! Monsters and Fairy Folk is a fantasy role playing blood sport in which the players join one of two factions. The Monsters who wish to conquer the world through warfare and savagery, or the Fairy Folk who wish to maintain harmonious balance and peace. The point of the game is to drive out or exterminate the enemy faction. By using highly advanced splicing modifications (many of which are copyrighted and not available on the public market), Monsters and Fairy Folk have created a range of super powers that closely resemble magic spells, further adding to the immersive feeling of living in a fantasy environment!

While slaying or conquering the enemy faction's territory is a path towards victory, slaying the enemy's leader will instantly win the game for the affiliated faction, and so the leaders are usually kept under heavy guard to ensure this does not happen. Also, each time a piece of territory is conquered, the environment changes to reflect the faction that rules it.

Monsters - This faction is spliced to resemble the appearance and abilities of terrifying creatures such as Ogres, Goblins, Orcs, and Trolls. They focus on savagery and barbarism to win their battles, often laying waste to enemy towns and villages while enslaving the survivors. Their primary goal is to conquer the Light Kingdom and slay the Fairy Queen in order to achieve instant victory over the land. They are lead by the Monster King who is always a male player and is selected at random.

Monster Territory is often a barren wasteland with dying plants, few animals, and clouds of ash polluting the sky. Giving a more bleak and hellish look to further emphasize the "evil" of the Monster King's forces.

Fairy Folk - This faction is spliced to resemble the appearance and abilities of beutiful creatures such as Elves, Pixies, Unicorns, and Nymphs. They are peace loving faction who only result to violence when they have no alternative. Their primary goal is to conquer the Dark Kingdom and defeat the Monster King for an instant victory over the land. They are lead by the Fairy Queen who is always a female player and is selected at random.

Fairy Territory is often a lush, fertile paradise with vibrant plants and animals, and clear skies. Giving a more beautiful and enchanting look to further emphasize the "good" of the Fairy Queen's forces.

Potential Story - Yes. I think it would be awesome to have a medieval fantasy style war story. Especially with all those scantily clad Elf girls being enslaved by a band of rampaging Orcs.

Public Execution: One of the most controversial blood sports to date. Public Execution is a game in which the players have to torture a criminal to death, but they have to drag out the suffering as long as possible. The players with the longest time before their victim expires are declared the winner. Only condemned prisoners who are given death sentences for their crimes are put to death in this manner, but some of the more ethical minded law enforcement supporters are still known to protest this sport today. Were it not for the fact that the voting of the fans outweighs their ethical supporters, the sport would probably have been banned by now.

Potential Story - No. Not much to go on other than a constant stream of snuff scenes each chapter.

That's all the Blood Sports for this chapter. If you can think of any others, let me know and I might add them in! This chapter filled up 9 spots, but we've still got 27 left to go!

Also, feel free to write your own stories featured in these Blood Sport universe, just so long as you give me credit. Seriously, don't steal my ideas, it's not cool, and it makes puppies cry!
