Back story: While the story advances in the comic "Twokinds" Flora's sister, Serana, searches for her sister and runs from her former captors that she believes was kidnapped by the "evil" Trace Legacy. She searches with the help of a cursed human, his Keidran brother, and one of the few female Basitin lieutenants.
Time: Our story begins after Trace and Flora get on the boat to the Basitin Homeland. Serana is 3 years younger than Flora (making her 8 at the start of the book) Tai is 17, and Simon is 8, Ramona is 18. The age of a keidran is doubled by the actual number, making both Serana and Simon 16.

Chapter 1 "The Woodsman"
There was a solid thump as Tai's axe cut into the old tree trunk. It was another average day in the secluded fox keidran village where Tai the human and his keidran brother Simon lived, nothing ordinary ever happened, and everybody knew everything that went on in town. A few more thumps were heard, then the sharp crack of a tree crashing to the ground. As tai stood up and stretched his back, he thought he heard a faint cry. Ignoring it, he went to work chopping down another tree. Right before he made the first chop, he heard the cry again, and this time it was louder than the first. He stood up and turned towards where the cry was sounded. It sounded like a female voice, but not one that he knew, and he knew every vixen in the village. He grabbed his axe and slowly made his way to the sound, prepared to strike at anything that might be lurking in the shadows.
As Tai got closer to where he heard the sound, he saw nothing. He began to wonder it it was his brother or another fox playing a trick on him, the fox keidran were always known for their games.
"Ha ha very funny guys" He shouted into the seemingly empty forest. He turned and had took two steps back in the direction of the tree he had cut down, when another body slammed into him at full speed. Caught off guard, he fell and whacked his head on a tree stump. Clutching his head in pain, he opened his eyes to see a female tiger keidran sitting upright. She tried to stand up by bracing herself on a tree, but failed and slouched back onto the ground in defeat.
"Excuse me, just who do think you are?!" Tai shouted, as he stood up. He then noticed her wounded, bleeding leg. There was a large gash in her shin, and it seemed fresh. "Are you okay?" He asked cautiously. The tiger keidran shook her head no, and tried to stand again. "You do realize that's not going to work, right?" He asked her. Again she slumped down in defeat, and looked in the direction of Tai with pleading eyes. "If you want my help, you're going to have to say something" Tai said bluntly. "I know keidran can speak." He stood over her, leaning on his axe.
