Chap.2: The Serpentine
While going in the mansion to rest for the night, Lee found it was something else entirely....
A giant, dark room. With what seemed like ancient stairways on each side of the room; leading up to a higher floor. There was no question that this mansion once belonged to somebody important. And it indeed has been abandoned for quite some time. Broken wooden panels, and the occasional large spider web. But none of that was what caught Lee's attention.... In the middle of the large room, a group of six cloaked figures surrounding a blue fire. 2 of these figures held what seemed like flags, with a symbol on them which looked like...
*Serpents?*
Suddenly, all of the figures turned to Lee. Then was when Lee saw it....
*Gah...humans?!*
They were only humans, not one fur like Lee around.
At first Lee was shocked. Humans used to treat furs like trash, slaves, and savages. More recently though, furs had become more accepted in most communities. Though it's almost impossible to change the mind of every man in the world.
Lee remembered multiple stories of the "cruel humans", still hunting furs, sometimes as a "ritual of respect" for their ancestors who hunted furs; but sometimes it was just for fun.
When Lee saw them he was shocked, but not scared; in all actuality he was preparing to have to fight them off.
"It's a Fur! He's seen! Get him!!!"
As five men yelled and charged at Lee with knives, the one member that stayed behind raised his hand and yelled
"Stop!!!"
They all instantly obeyed and stopped, and stood in place, still facing Lee.
Lee was dumbfounded. He guessed that the man must be their leader. Lee couldn't see his face well, but in the dim light emitted from the blue flames partially showed his face. He seemed to be a man in his late 40's, grey hair starting to grow, and an aged look on his face.
Then he spoke...
"My brothers, in order to illuminate the world, we must 'accept' all kinds and races."
"...Yes Mentor", all five of the cloaked humans said in unison.
Then they went and motioned for Lee to sit.
"Come, please. We will not hurt you."
Though Lee was not so trusting
*...Tell me. Who are you?*
They all took their hoods off and told him their names.
"I'm Fred. Known as 28"
"Joshua. Known as 74"
"Michael. Known as 57"
"Lisa. Known as 33"
Lee was surprised to see one of them to be a girl. Though he wasn't completely satisfied.
*...And you...?*, he motioned to the leader.
Though it was faint, Lee could see a small smirk come from has face.
The man took off his hood, "I am Zedrick. Known as the Mentor."
*Mentor...of what?*
"Of the Serpentine Order"
*Serpentine Order?*
The old man motioned to one of the men
"Robert, explain it to him."
The man nodded, "Yes Mentor.... We are the Serpentine; all we strive for is simply to...enlighten...the world. Though not officially, we have existed since the beginning of time, through people who held the same beliefs back then as us now. We have many methods of illuminating people; some of them require some violence, though it's for the greater good. We only do it when it's absolutely necessary."
Lee heard all this, and understood what they were trying to say. But he was no fool. He understood that these people were bad and evil; he understood that they did evil things. But none of it scared him, it actually interested him. He understood the bad things he would be doing if he joined, what he would become, but he didn't care. Nobody else cared about him, and it seemed all the things he enjoyed were "bad"; so then maybe he was destined to join them, to live his life in darkness.
*...And how do I get in?*
Everyone was shocked and gasped. Everyone except the Mentor; he just stood there with a cunning and pleased grin....
