#2 of A Mewtwo Story

Chapter 2: testing

Mewtwo walked down a long, gray hallway. The red carpet felt different in his toes. Even though he was new to these feelings he was not afraid of them. He also did not question what was. He thought he would be told or he would figure it out on his own. He seemed to like it that way.

The doctor brought him before a machine. The display on the machine showed different Pokéballs with numbers next to them. Some of the balls were red and white, some yellow and black, some white and blue. But there was one that the doctor Scrolled to that was purple and white. It quickly stood out among the rest.

"I have chosen your opponent Mewtwo. This Pokémon, for the longest time was very hard to catch. It killed three of our best trainers, and was one of the most ferocious and fierce creatures we had ever come in contact with, ...but you? I think that there is going to be absolutely no problem for you killing this one." Said the Doctor

Mewtwo cocked his head and wondered what such a dangerous Pokémon looked like or even what it was called.

"Normally Pokémon tournaments are not fought to the death. But with this, there has to be an exception made. There is no Taming this Pokémon, and quite frankly, we here at R.R.C. Want back the Master ball that was used to capture it."

"Is there any other way than killing it?" Said Mewtwo with a forlorn expression on his face.

The doctor shook his head.

"I'm afraid the director wants to see what you are made of Mewtwo. And he thinks this is the best way to test you."

Mewtwo looked at the ball on the screen. "So what is this Pokémon?"

"It's called Zapdos. And it is a bird Pokémon. It is extremely rare, and has a very short temper. We acquired this Pokémon from a trainer that caught it in one of our electrical power plants.

Mewtwo looked back at the professor. "I'll do it for my father. But I'll have you know that I wish there was another way."

Thaddeus put a hand on Mewtwo's shoulder. "Just don't let Giovanni hear you say something like that. He cannot stand weakness. You should have seen what he did to one poor member of our team. His name was Ash, rather young fellow; He failed a mission to obtain a large stock of Pikachus from another country. When the ship sank and only ash Survived he came crawling back and the director let him at the mercy of this very Zapdos. Now ash is in a permanent coma. And one could only guess what kind of insane delirium goes thorough his head now.

Mewtwo was led to an outside courtyard. There was dirt on the ground and there was also concrete in the familiar shape of a Pokéball. There was a human trainer dressed in a black uniform that came out a glass double door across from the one Mewtwo was led out of. There were trees and rolling hills of grass as far as the eye could see outside of metal bars that were humming with electricity. Mewtwo did not know the dangers of electricity, but he was about to find out.

The director's voice could be heard over a loudspeaker.

"Hello my creation. Here is where you will earn your first meal. If you can defeat this foe, you will be praised and continue to work for me. However, if you lose, I will let you starve or ill will leave you at the mercy of this Zapdos. The choice is yours."

Mewtwo felt a little hurt by such coldness, but who was he to argue. The trainer threw the ball in the air and started running back towards the door. The ball hit the ground and immediately there was a blinding flash as Zapdos erupted with an ear-splitting Squawk. The trainer was in the middle of opening the door when his other arm as grabbed by Zapdos. The trainer let out a cry of agony and fear as the Zapdos dragged him away from the door.

"H-HELP ME---I DON'T WANT TO DIE!"

The trainer screamed as Zapdos started tearing open his suit. Mewtwo Acted quickly and dragged the trainer away with his mind. The trainer yelled and the Zapdos Squawked with anger at the trainer, wondering how it got out of the Zapdos's grip then turned its attention to Mewtwo, who brought the trainer near the door. The trainer, bleeding and with a crippled left arm got through the door and sealed it.

Zapdos used the electricity in the large cage as a resonator and threw the electricity at Mewtwo, who didn't put up a defense. Mewtwo was paralyzed briefly by the electricity before his powerful mind brought up a powerful light screen. The Zapdos countered this, by flying high up in the cage, and swooping down at Mewtwo.

Mewtwo barely got out of the way of Zapdos's Razor sharp beak; it opened a small area of skin on his shoulder. Mewtwo grabbed it, but blood started trickling down his arm. The Zapdos was coming down for another attempt, but this time Mewtwo quickly stood up and put up a large pulsating physical barrier.

This barrier was hard on Mewtwo's mind, especially with the pain in his arm. But it did the job as Zapdos slammed hard against it and fell to the ground. The barrier shattered and Mewtwo staggered a bit. Both Mewtwo and the Zapdos were disoriented. But Mewtwo Tried once again to put down this terrible bird. The Zapdos was getting back up and Mewtwo had to act quickly. Suddenly the director spoke over the loudspeaker again.

"You are doing better than I expected Mewtwo, and I will have to say that you make me proud! Now finish off that Zapdos, and bring me that masterball!"

Easy for him to say! Mewtwo looked around for a way to beat the Zapdos, who was now circling him. Mewtwo looked down at the ground briefly and again saw the sand. It was light enough to be lifted by his tired mind, and he could do damage with it as a projectile.

Mewtwo formed the sand into a small ball shaped projectile and shot it clear between the bird's unsuspecting eyes. The bird teetered around as the ball became sand again within its head. Zapdos just stood there for a moment drooling blood, and no longer having working motor functions, finally fell over.

Through the director's monitor of the match it looked far more incredible than Mewtwo had planned it to be. Because Mewtwo used such a tiny bit of sand, it looked to the director like Mewtwo merely raised his hand, and commanded the bird to die.

Mewtwo, exhausted from the overuse of his brain collapsed on the floor of the Stadium. Doctor Thaddeus ran out with a trainer.

"Molly... quickly check the Zapdos for life signs, and then come and help me with Mewtwo."

The trainer rushed over to the Zapdos and used some sort of mechanical device on it.

"The Zapdos is dead sir!"

The doctor nodded "as expected. Now come over here and patch Mewtwo's wound. Meanwhile I'll give my full report to the Director. It seems like everything is in order."

Mewtwo looked up to the Trainer as she patched the tired Mewtwo. He couldn't say anything to her but he did wish to say thanks. She finished patching him and finally got up.

She brushed her black rocket uniform off and then brushed her hands off.

"There we go good as new!"

She then turned around and saluted Giovanni as he walked out onto the Field with Doctor Thaddeus.

"At ease, Trainer, You are dismissed"

Molly left the Stadium through the same double doors as the last trainer. Mewtwo watched her as she left. He then focused his attention on the director who had a smile on his face.

"Well now, my wonderful creation. Not only have you proved yourself an efficient killing machine, but you almost appear as if you had command over life and death itself by that display. Very well done.

Mewtwo just looked at Giovanni. He felt tired and empty. But the director knew just what to do.

"Don't think I didn't have something special waiting for you once you got finished out here. I have a meal prepared for you inside and plenty of fellow psychic Pokémon to get acquainted with."

Molly came back out with a stretcher, and then her and Thaddeus Lifted Mewtwo onto it, and brought him indoors.

Mewtwo awoke in a very strange room. There were many voices jumbled together in here. How long was he out? It didn't matter much to him. Where was Thaddeus? Where was Giovanni? Mewtwo looked around. The room was large and round. There were many mattresses lining the walls. The walls were a pale yellow and the floors and mattresses were light blue. Up above on the ceiling were glass skylights letting sun in, and lighting the area.

There was one table in the middle of the room, and on the table was a silver platter with something strange on it. Wandered over and examined the strange things on the silver platter. He smelled them. The smell was appealing. He looked up as another Pokémon approached him from a small crawlspace underneath the mattress. It was an Alakazam. The Pokémon approached the table and looked at Mewtwo.

Mewtwo got visions in his head coming from the Alakazam. It was showing Mewtwo how to eat. Alakazam also wanted to share. All these feelings were conveyed through pure instinctual thought. As if their minds had become one.

Alakazam showed him visions of the guards walking by calling the orange things carrots. The staff had also said things around Alakazam like the words beef, potatoes and gravy. Which were all placed on that silver platter for Mewtwo, and Alakazam wanted a taste.

Mewtwo Obliged and gave Alakazam free reign to share in this meal. Mewtwo had never used his teeth before and was savoring the flavor of the hot meat and potatoes. He loved the taste of the carrots. He chewed on them carefully as they were rather hard to him. He didn't care much for the tomato soup, so the Alakazam had all of that. After both of them were full, the Alakazam looked at the Mewtwo with a troubled feeling.

During the meal Alakazam had delved into the thoughts of the distracted Mewtwo, and learned that Mewtwo had killed Zapdos. Alakazam became afraid of Mewtwo, and he felt Alakazam close out his mind to him.

Mewtwo reached his hand out to Alakazam, but the Pokémon avoided his touch. Mewtwo didn't know what he had done to upset the Pokémon, but he was going to ask his father why Alakazam was feeling hatred for him.
