#3 of Vulpsis' CYOA

Vulpsis helps out the injured Umbreon that staggered into her den!

Vulpsis leaned closer to the dark and bloody Umbreon. He had bite wounds on the side of his neck where blood was now just oozing out. It looked like a piece of his ear was also bit out. His flank had three terribly deep claw marks that also took the black fur with it and exposed his badly injured flesh. He didn't lose as much blood as she initially thought... but she needed to close those open wounds fast. She sped out of her safe den; the urgency of the situation having melted her fear of the unknown. She remembered when her brother lost a fight her mommy used a bitter herb and forced him to eat some. She used the same leafs and wrapped it around his wound and in hours all that was left was a closed scar. She needed to remember where it was... she raised her little black nose and took in the scent of nature.

The many smells of the forest came together at first but Vulpsis focused on the many smells to tell them apart. Many Ratatta were foraging to the west, to the north she can smell dirty canines traveling in a pack... maybe Poochyena? And the east she can smell berries and that bitter scent of medicinal herbs.... Vulpsis smiled to herself, quite proud she was able to distinguish and remember the scent before dashing towards the direction. The forest had many thick and old stumps lying around. Various bug Pokemon stared and ran when they saw the fire vixen running towards them, her many tails wavered in the wind as he eyes focused on the path ahead. She ran through bushed, jumped atop of flat stones across a thin running stream and even hopped over a hollow log just because she was energized by her mission.

When she reached the bushes she hesitated before reaching down to pull out the many herbs. She can tell the many life giving herbs were potent since her little nose and eyes were stinging from the bitter aroma they gave off. She eyed the long green stalks that closed around together like a flower waiting to bloom. Her eyes watered as she inched closer, her lower lip actually quivering as she opened up and took the bitter herb in her maw. In one quick motion she ripped the herb away from its kin and ran back. Vulpsis' lips were growing numb from the medicinal properties and she was trying her best not to taste the sickening bitter flavor as she jumped and skipped back to her den.

Back at the den Vulpsis was hoping to run into her brother or her mom... but they weren't home yet. She plopped the revival herb onto the ground close to the knocked out Umbreon and ripped off a single leaf. She wrapped it around his neck gently at first before pressing a firm paw against it and heating up her fur like how her mommy did. The smell grew more intense as the herb reacted to the increase heat. Umbreon's eyes began to quiver as his body shivered into place. Vulpsis began to worry if the medicine wasn't working and was in fact hurting him... but when she stripped away the leaf she saw that his bite wounds had miraculously closed. She did the same for his underside, Vulpsis carefully lifted his leg and laid him across his back before applying another stripped leaf across his flank. Umbreon hissed in his sleep... obviously the medicine was quite painful to its patients. Still Vulpsis held on, her lower lip between her fangs as her ears splayed from his groans of pain. She had to wait until the leaf's spores stopped fluttering about before she applied the second one, the claw wounds were really bad. When she was finally done holding down the leaf a gruff voice scared her and caused her to jump.

"Thanks." Umbreon was watching her now with his serene crimson colored eyes. The dark iris stared towards Vulpsis' own red eyes and caused her to blush a bit... she didn't know how to accept his gratitude.

"Hehe... mommy used the same leafs..."

"Good thing she taught you... I didn't know they healed Pokemon so well. We all stayed away because of the taste and smell..."

"Yeah... it wasn't easy" Umbreon chuckled before turning away. He stayed quiet for a bit, laying down on his side against the cavernous wall as Vulpsis sat and watched. She was unsure of what to say next... he was healed now and probably could move on his own already so he didn't have to stay. She could probably leave and look for her family now... or she can stay with the Umbreon a little longer. She was hoping he would suggest something since she was the nervous type and didn't usually know what to do...
