#7 of Furry and Proud

New feelings

It was Sunday, the day after the crazy night with my friends, which kind of tired me out. But that's why I like Sundays, because on Sundays, I can basically sleep the whole day. Although, this Sunday wasn't going to be that kind of day. I remembered that I still had to visit Victoria's house again. 'We can go over that tomorrow'. Why did I say that? Oh well, at least I can still sleep for a few more hours. Well, that's what I thought at first, until I heard a knock on my door. It woke me up, but I didn't get out of bed.

"No ones home." I said. Then I put a pillow over my head.

I heard the door open and a voice that said. "Eddy, what are you still doing in bed?"

It was my mom.

"Sleeping." I said.

"Well you should be getting ready. It's 9:30. Didn't I set your alarm?"

"Yea, I figured you would." I said. Then I took the pillow away from my head and said. "That's why I unplugged it."

Then I laughed a little. My mom didn't think it was so funny though. I then heard her footsteps walking around in my room. Then she opened the blinds to my window really fast. The light got in my eyes and irritated them. I quickly grabbed the pillow and put it on my face again to block the light.

"Mooom." I said in a whinny way.

"Don't you mom me." She said. Then she grabbed the pillow from my hands and playfully hit me on the chest. It may have been a playful hit, but it was still annoying.

"Get up." She said.

Then I heard her walk out the room. With the light in my eyes and the noise from my mom, I figured that I wouldn't be going back to sleep anytime soon. I made the effort to at least get on my hands and knees. I yawned, stretched, and moved towards the edge of the bed. Although, since I was still half a sleep, I ended up losing my grip on the bed and fell right to the floor. I was on my back with the covers around me and just laying on the floor with my eyes closed. Then I heard the footsteps again. I opened my eyes and saw my mom looking down on me.

"Eddy." She said.

"Yeeeess?" I said acting a little silly.

"What are you doing?"

"Just...laying around."

"Why are you on the floor?"

"I fell off the bed."

My mom laughed a little and said. "Are you okay?"

"Yes." I said.

"Well, then get up."

I held my arms up and said. "Carry me?"

She laughed and said. "Boy you are not a little pup anymore. Now get up."

Then she left. I was happy that I could make her laugh, but I think she was done playing around. I got up from the floor and threw my covers back on my bed. Then I walked to the bathroom. On the way there, I heard my mom yelling at my dad.

"Henry, you get up too! I have to go to work so you need to hurry up and take Eddy!"

I heard my dad groan a little. I guess he was as tired as I was.

"Oh my goodness, the men of this house." Said my mom.

She then started to walk to the stairs and said.

"You two should be thanking me, because who knows where you two would be without me!"

"Thank you honey!" Said my dad.

"Love you mom!" I said.

"Yea, whatever." Said my mom. Then she laughed while going down the stairs.

The drive to Victoria's apartment wasn't that long this time. I guess my dad just knew where he was going. Once we reached the building, I noticed that my dad wasn't following me inside this time. That's how I knew that he trusted me. It felt good. It gave me this kind of immunity when I went inside. Like I could just do whatever I wanted. I walked in and went strait to the dude with the phone, carrying my backpack with a little more swagger than usual. He was still kind of shocked to see me. When I got to the desk, I leaned in close and said.

"Tell Victoria that Eddy is here."

The dude paused for a moment, but eventually he picked up the phone. I didn't even bother to wait for permission to go. I just walked to the elevator and pressed the button. Was I over confident? Maybe, but come on, who was gonna stop me. When the door opened, I was happy to see that it was empty. I walked in, pressed the 18, and leaned on the wall. I was watching the numbers slowly go up. 4...5...6...7. I wasn't really thinking about anything at the time. Maybe just about last night. Especially when I knocked out that drunk by the bar. I then looked at my fist. I softly pet the brown fur and my hands and thought about the punch.

"Did I go too far? Why do I get so angry sometimes?" I was still wondering if the guy even deserved it.

The elevator then made a sudden stop at the 12th floor. I just stood there, in the middle of the elevator; just waiting to see what interesting or crazy person will come through that door. When the doors opened, a woman with brown hair and some kind of pink jumpsuit appeared holding this small poodle in her hand. She jumped a little as soon as she saw me. I tried my best not laugh, but I'm pretty sure I had a funny looking smirk on my face. She took a moment to stare at me. As if I wasn't real or something. Once she finally walked in, she pushed the number 18 button, even though I already pushed it. I stepped to the side to give her room. She didn't dare face me, but her little pet was feeling different. I waved at the poodle and it responded back with a cheery bark and a wag of its tail. I went to go pet it on the head, but the woman quickly pulled the dog back away from me. She looked at me with disgust and said.

"Well excuse me!"

She then stepped back and frantically pet the dog. Then she finished it off by giving the dog a kiss on the nose as the dog licks her face. Then, I had a face of disgust when I said.

"Are you serious?"

The elevator finally opened and she walked out with a quick pace.

I stepped out and looked at her one last time. You see a canine on all fours, then he's cute, but walking on to legs, good god almighty it's a big deal.

I finally ignored my thoughts and walked to Victoria's suite. As I was reaching for the door, it opened right in front of me. It was Mr. Stevenson buttoning up his suit. At first he didn't see me as he buttoned that last button, but when he finished, he took a step back as he noticed me standing there.

"Oh....hello."

I tried to stay confident as I said. "Good morning Mr. Stevens. You off to work?"

Mr. Stevens still looked surprised to see me. Like he was expecting me. Although, I've been getting used to that look for a long time. It wasn't any different when he did it. It didn't even matter that he was wearing that smooth black suit with a decorated tie and a clean-cut white undershirt. Mr. Stevens finally uttered a word.

"Um...I apologize....uh?"

It seems he as forgotten my name. I drooped my ears down unknowingly and said.

"Eddy."

"Right....I apologize Eddy, I just, didn't expect you to be here."

We both stood there, staring at each other for a while. He stared at me more with fear and uncertainty though. Finally, he gave me a quick nod and walked away to the elevator. I opened the door to the apartment and started to walk in. But then I stopped. I just had a strange feeling. Then I looked behind me. Mr. Stevens was staring at me as he waited for the elevator. It was another serious stare. A little more frightful this time. I'm pretty sure my ears drooped again because I know I gave him a strange look. Then I heard Victoria's voice call for me.

"Oh, Eddy. Come in."

My ears sprung back up again as I looked at her direction. I just walked in and paid no attention to her father.

"Hey Victoria." I said. Her name still sounded foreign in my voice, but I wasn't here to make friends. I was just here to keep my grade high. Still, Victoria wasn't that bad.

She smiled and excitedly led me to her room.

"Did you bring the notes from yesterday?" She asked me.

"Yea, they're all in my bag."

"Good, I had my dad get all the supplies we need for the project."

Once she said that, we finally entered here room. I was amazed to see the pink room filled with buckets of clay and a giant cardboard platform the size of the window.

"So we have to stick all of the clay on that cardboard?" I asked.

Victoria just nodded her head. I then drooped my ears again.

"How long do you think that will take?" I asked.

"A few hours." She answered.

"I'm starting to regret this idea."

Then Victoria nudged my arm and said.

"Oh, don't worry, it should be fun."

She walked to the green clay and started opening the buckets. I sighed a little bit, but I tried to keep a positive attitude. Work doesn't get done when you complain.

I took the cardboard and placed it on the floor flat.

"Okay so we can start with making an outline of the land with sharpie." I said. "You good at drawing?"

"Yea, sure." She said. Then she looked through her desk for a sharpie. She went back on the floor with me and started from the bottom of the board.

"We can just do New York right?" She asked.

"Yea. Anything else would be too much."

Victoria giggled at my comment.

"What's the matter?" She said. "You don't like arts and crafts?"

"Art....isn't my strong suit. I prefer music or something."

"Music is art."

I looked at Victoria's face when she said that clever comment. She had a smirk on her face and I could feel her staring into my eyes.

"So maybe art is your strong suit." She continued. I had nothing to say, so I guess she won that argument. I could've been mad at her, but I think she just said that to poke a little fun.

Suddenly, I felt something rub against my pinky. Then I saw Victoria look down and say "oops!". I looked down and saw that she drew the sharpie marker on my finger. I totally forgot that I was holding the cardboard down on the floor as Victoria drew.

"Ah crap." I said.

Victoria seemed to almost panic.

"I'm so sorry." She said.

I must've made a face to scare her. I stood up and said.

"Eh, it's okay. It was an accident. I'm just gonna go in the kitchen wash my hand."

I walked out of the room and said.

"Be right back."

I took a look back at Victoria as I left. She still looked scared out of her mind. I found it weird at first, but I guess she didn't know I would react.

I soon found the kitchen and quickly washed my hand. I pulled throw the fur just to get the sharpie off. It was working, but slowly. I pulled and pulled until it was all gone and I got back to Victoria as soon as I can. Once I walked in, she was already done outlining the land with the sharpie and started opening the buckets of clay.

"Huh, you work fast." I commented.

She turned around to look at me and smiled like I told her a joke.

"So what are we doing now?" I asked.

"Well, now that the outline is done, we can start putting down the clay." She answered.

"Alright then."

I sat down with her and rolled up my sleeves to get comfortable. She started putting some clay down on the board and explaining how to put on the clay.

"We want it to be nice and hilly. Like a plain."

"Alright then." I said while softly grabbing a clunk of clay. I slowly pushed it on to the board and flattened it out. I had a feeling that Victoria was watching, so I thought I should impress her and show that I know what I'm doing. I finally finished molding the clay on the board. It covered a big part of New York. I looked at Victoria to see her reaction.

"Well?" I asked, feeling proud. "How does it look?"

She still had that smile.

"That's great." She said. "At this rate, we'll be done in no time."

I laughed a little and took another chunk of clay. I was pretty relaxed now and I could tell that Victoria was relaxed too. We kept molding and placing for a while until Victoria wanted to make some conversation.

"So, how have you been?" She asked. It was a really forced question, but I know she wanted to break the awkward moment.

"Um, I'm alright." I answered back. "How about you?"

"I have been good.....although my dad has been working a little more."

Her voice seemed to drop a few levels as she said that.

"Well, he works to pay the bills. That's just how it is." I answered. I guess that was an attempt to make her feel better. It sucked though. Even still, I looked at her face and saw a little smirk.

"Yea, I guess so." She said after swallowing some spit. "So what did you do last night?"

I laughed a little and said.

"I was out with my friends doing stupid stuff really."

Victoria seemed interested.

"Oh really? Like what?" she said.

"Oh... You don't want to know. Just stupid stuff."

"No please, come on tell me."

"Basically we just ate at a pizza place and hung out...somewhere else."

Victoria leaned in close. I noticed that she stopped working too, leaving me to do a lot of the work. Even though we we're only half way done.

"Where did you hang out after?" She asked.

I laughed a little and said.

"I've said too much already."

Victoria leaned back and looked at the clay again.

"Alright then." She said.

"What about you?" I asked. "What did you do last night?"

"Cleaned my room, practiced my notes, went to get supplies of course, got back home to study and went to bed." She said.

Damn, sounds like a work schedule.

"Why don't you hang out with friends or something?"

"I do meet with others when I can, but I......uh oh." She said.

I look at her worried face.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Your paws.....I mean hands...and the clay may have gotten...."

I looked at my hands. I see now what she was talking about. The clay got seriously stuck in my fur.

"Oh crap." I said. "Well, that was a dumb move."

I laughed a little, but Victoria looked worried. I got up to go to the kitchen again.

"I'll be right back. Just finish without me." I said.

I walked out and went back to the kitchen sink. I frantically started washing my hands and covering it with soap. I've had clay in my fur before. It wasn't fun. I kept washing it over and over. It wasn't coming out. Suddenly, a hand came from behind me and helped me get the clay out. It was Victoria.

"Here, let me help." She said.

She smoothly rubbed her hands against mine as she stood next to me. I looked at my hands and saw that it was working, but....something else was going. She started holding my hand, clenching her fingers around mine. And she got really close to me. My smile then turned into a face of fear.

"Was she....flirting?" I thought.

I looked at her face. She had this peaceful smile. I panicked and pulled my wet hands away. The splash got us both wet. She was surprised and jumped a little bit. I had to think of some excuse.

"Oh...look. My hands are clean now." I said while smiling innocently.

Surprisingly enough, Victoria actually started laughing.

"Well, that is good." She said. "I'm going to dry off. Then we can continue with the project."

She then turned and walked away. As she left, I thought about how it got to this. Maybe she wasn't flirting. Maybe she just wants a friend or something. She does seem lonely. Wait, am I feeling sorry for her now? She's fricken rich. I'm pretty sure she handles her problems with a new pink outfit or something. Whatever, I should just focus on drying off. I took a towel and wiped my hands. Once they were dry, I put the towel away and walked back to Victoria's room.

_"Just stay cool and stay distant."_I thought.

I walked in looking down, but when I walked in, I was surprised to see Victoria already there.

_"How did she dry off so fast?"_I thought.

"Oh hello." She said while innocently pushing hair away from her face.

I stood stiff and said.

"Hey. So, since the clay is out....I'll just work on the cards that we can mark on the clay."

Victoria's eyes then lit up.

"Ooo." She said. "I have the perfect idea for that."

She then went to her desk draw, opened it quickly and took out a little flag.

"We can mark it with this and write the events on them." She continued.

"Yea, I'll do that." I said. I then went to gather my notes. Victoria clapped her hands once and said.

"Okay, good. I'll keep decorating."

Once I sat down on the floor with my notes, Victoria handed me pieces of paper, little sticks and glue. She tried to teach me how to make them, but I told her that I could do it. She then patted me on my shoulder and winked at me. It took me by surprise. I didn't know what to say to that. So I just stared. She eventually went back to work and left me they're staring. I didn't like this. I think Victoria really was flirting with me, but why? What does she want with me?

I immediately blocked out those thoughts and started working again. Cutting, then writing, then gluing. Cut, write, glue, cut, write, glue.

"Why does she like me?" I thought.

Focus Eddy. Cut, write, glue, cut, write, glue, cut, write,

"Maybe it's because I'm different? Am I different?" I thought.

Stop it Eddy! I looked around for a while. I saw Victoria still working on the cardboard. Now she was painting the sea. I looked back at my notes and saw that I was half way done. Cut, write, glue, cut, write, glue, cut.

"Victoria is nice. Maybe she'll understand if I don't like her like that?"

Eddy, just stop. Focus! I kept working and working. Paying no attention to Victoria. Just kept cutting, writing, gluing. Then, then I got sleepy. I kept working, but...I couldn't keep my eyes open for long. Yep, I was going to fall asleep. I kept working and working. But then my eyes closed for a while. I opened them again to just finish gluing one last thing....then....I was knocked out.

There was no dream, no vision of any kind. Just, peaceful darkness. I was relaxed and numb. I wasn't thinking anything....until....until I felt this happy feeling. I probably smiled. Then I felt like...like something was rubbing my head. It felt good. I don't know what it was, but it felt good. I then felt my tail wagging against the floor. I just sat there, thinking that it was all dream. A peaceful dream. But then....I felt a little more awake. The petting didn't stop. My tail didn't stop. Could this be real? Finally my tail stood stiff in the air. I quickly opened my eyes and the first thing I saw was Victoria's smiling face, her eyes closed. I was confused. The petting didn't stop. I looked up and saw her hand brushing softly against my head. I quickly jumped up and backed away from her in panic.

"What are you doing?!" I screamed.

Victoria still sat there, staring up at me as I stood in front of her. Finally she uttered.

"I'm sorry.... I......"

We both stood there in silence. I didn't wait for another response. I quickly packed up all my stuff and left the room.

"Wait!" Victoria yelled. "Don't leave. I'm sorry."

I stopped and turned to look at her. There was only one thing I could think to say, so I made it as threatening as possible.

"Look girl!" I said. "I got a girlfriend!"

Victoria was silent. I took the chance to leave the apartment and go to the elevator. I waited for the doors to open and finally walked in. As I was going down the elevator, only one thought kept circling my mind.

"Was I too mean?"
